setting sproblem - Unlocked o2 stellar with TMobile sim card - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have just bought a replacement for a lost Tmobile vario III, which is an unlocked O2 stellar. All works fine except I cannot receive MMS and internet settings from T mobile. Maybe this is because the existing O2 configuration software is still on the phone?? So questions: how doe I remove all the O2 software and settings, can anyone give me the right T mobile settings in case the automatic download never works??

I think you could be right there Jeremy - although your phone will pick up the right SMS address from the network, it needs to be taught the right MMS and GPRS/3G settings for those to work.
Easiest way is to go to T-Mobile's website, look in Support, enter your phone number and they'll send you the correct settings direct to your phone.
Next easiest is to find an HTC Network Wizard cab, as this will install the correct settings for many networks (all the ones in the UK are supported) automatically.
Last method is to enter the details manually. The T-Mobile website doesn't list them (only offers the text-to-you method) and I've used the Network Wizard for so long I can't find my piece of paper with the settings on anymore! I'm pretty sure this site has them listed correctly though http://www.mphone.co.uk/mms_wap_settings_t_mobile.html
The T-Mobile settings should overwrite the O2 ones (or show as two separate selections) but if you want to remove the O2 software completely then you're in the realms of flashing a non-O2 ROM, in which case you've come to the right place but got a lot of reading in front of you.

Stu - thanks for your reply. I have tried several times to get the setting downloaded to the phone by Tmobile but for some reason they never arrive. So I may try to download and instal the HTC Network Wizard cab although this makes me a bit nervous - if I get it wrong can I seriously screw up my phone??

Stu - I did it anyway and it worked - what a great little piece of software! Thanks so much for the help.
Next question - can I remove the O2 flash screens from the phone - any idea?

Nice thing about phones, make sure your contacts, calendar are backed up onto a PC and you can install ANYTHING without fear - if it goes really wrong, just Hard Reset to get back to factory-fresh and reinstall your contacts, etc. The only way you can seriously screw your phone up is playing with the Radio or ROM without Hard-SPL being installed or being stupid with MTTY.
Or using a big hammer on it will work well too at screwing it. As will letting my kids play ClickBall when they're in a strop....

Thanks for all you helpfula dvice Stu. Took a deep breath and falshed my ROM, bit scary and bit complicated but finally managed to get it to work!

O2 XDA Stellar Corporate Software Install?

Hi,
I should be getting my XDA Stellar tomorrow, I currently have a mini S and was just wondering wether there is an option to do a corporate install on the Stellar (removing all the O2 crap) like there was on the mini S.
Any Ideas?

When I started up my Stellar for the first time it just loaded the O2 custom stuff by default - don't think there was a way to stop it. You'll probably need to investigate how you change the ROM.
I'm in the process of trying to understand how this works from reading here but not confident enough I do understand it yet to even think about attempting it.
I loaded TomTom Nav 6 the other day & that seems to work well although it did completely freak at one point meaning all I got on the screen was the Tom Tom splash screen - even after a soft reset.
Managed to unload it & reload it & all has been OK since although yesterday the GPS went mental - couldn't find more than one or two satellites & at one point it was telling me I was somewhere out in the atlantic off the coast of France! (I was in my house near London at the time )
Overall I think its a good device. I just want to figure out how I can get it to default to using the available Wifi connection when I'm in the house rather than heading straight for a GPRS connection when I run Internet Explorer.
Anyone else?
How hard would it be to install a HTC ROM if I can't remove the O2 software?
Are there any benefits to having the O2 ROM as oppoes to the HTC ROM and Vice Versa?

I'd guess the O2 rom has some "bloat-ware" in it & it'll also contain all the settings you need for GPRS access, voicemail etc that it will program into the device for you.
I think O2's "Today" screen is a bit of a mess to be honest.
When you first start the thing up there is a 3-5 second delay after initial setup before it then runs the carrier's customisation
I saw something posted that if you pull the battery at this point then it will stop the customisation & you just get the standard HTC config. Not sure of what the potential risks are though.
Apparently you can do this at any point afterwards as well if you do a hard reset (don't know how you do that yet!)
I.
to stop the custom o2 install, when it says about to customer soft reset it by poking the stylus in the reset hole on the base of the phone
I've just left the stock ROM running, but stopped various aspects of the software that comes with it from starting up by removing the links from the startup menu. The device doesn't run slowly at all. I was amazed at how ugly the O2 stuff was!
I didn't bother with a new ROM, I have just installed the best bits of the HTC stuff from this forum (many thanks to many people, incidentally) and it improves the functionality of the device massively with very little work. Why O2 felt the need to replace good software with ugly rubbish I'll never know.
I run TomTom 6, and have never had any trouble with it at all; I always get a good quick lock, and have never found myself in the wrong country!

XDAIIi newbee !

Hello all, 1st post here. I will be aquirring a XDAIIi in a week or two as a relative is replacing his firms pda`s and im getting one of the old units.
I know they were on O2 and I have a T-mobile sim so Id like to unlock it.
I have found the unlock info on this forum and will give that a go.
My question is, what should I check for to make sure it will be running as best it can be and how can I find out what s/ware should be loaded onto it and is there a way of getting a master copy of the original build or will this all be on the software disks that came with it ?
also is there any particular sat nav s/ware that works better than most on the XDAIIi?
I understand the xdaIIi is called something else in places, what is that name ?
sorry there such open questions nut couldnt think how to phrase them in order to do a search.
many thanks in advance, Lee.
Moving to alpine.

I have sucessfully unlocked three of my firm's old Alpine's, aka XDA IIi, using the file in this post, All in one SIM unlock tool, personally i found the earlier version more successful, but you may be OK with the newer version. The biggest thing i would say is to have patience, when you run it, it will seem to finish and nothing has happened. Wait until you receive a message saying it has been unlocked, and then soft reset.
Only other advice i can give is to do a hard reset to get it back to factory settings and then when you get a popup saying "Applying customisations in 3 seconds", or something similar, soft reset. This will prevent the O2 stuff being installed, leaving you with more RAM to play with.
Thanks Ive sucsefully unlocked it for t-mobile, fantastic. just need to find out what else I can do to improve this pda.
Don't try to improve it
as is it is one of the best ever made OK yes it restricted because of only running 2003SE but it runs it dam fast. I have a friend that has a Orbit (the latest one by O2 thats the equivilent of the XDA IIi and mine is as fast as his and he ditched the crappy sat nav software that came with it to go back to TT6, ref sat nav software it runs TT 6 fine I have it on mine and have no problems whatso ever.

Is this an easy fix?

I bought a TyTN II, unlocked HTC model. It seems to be a grey import, alghtough it has a "GB" serial, the box says Singapre/Vietnam.
The GPRS networks are all from Asia/Pacific. I cannot get it to connect to AT&T.
I've searched but cannot find a quick answer (or any, in fact). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Keith
Try these - the carrier settings for the Kaiser/Tilt are the same as for the Hermes/TyTN, so they should work.....(famous last words)...
From @MrDSL - this post and associated CABs
From @wpbear - this post / CAB
HTH,
Mark.
Thanks Mark, these are Cingular - do you know if that's the same files as needed for AT&T (or are they the same now)?
Any danger of bricking at all by running these?

you cant BRICK a device simply by installing settings onto it.
you can brick a device by flashing a device that doesnt have hardspl on it however

Hmmm...methinks a typo crept in there
If a device has HardSPL installed, then it is protected from becoming a brick due to a bad flash....
@tanglin - I'm pretty sure that "Cingular Wireless" is the new name for AT&T if I remember right. As @andaroo correctly stated, it won't do any harm to install the Cingular CABs to see if that fixes your Kaiser/TyTN II so that it works with your provider.....let's face it, it's more likely to work than the current Far East networks you've got configured
If you're in it for the duration and considering flashing an updated ROM, you would do well to read the Kaiser wiki - there's a page on there relating to a ROM by Quentin - Q-Mobile 1.2 - which is pretty damn good....plus Quentin has an "AT&T specific" version that will have all the correct settings built in.
There's plenty of other AT&T/Cingular users on the Kaiser forums, so you should get a response from someone who knows exactly what you need.
Enjoy!!
Mark.
So I took a deep breath...
Grabbed the 8525 cab and installed it. Rebooted, and voila, 3G right away with AT&T!
Mark, many thanks for your help. Now I just want to find a way to tidy up the Network Wizard combo list (with all the Asian countries in) and I'm set. But since the phone's working OK, I'm relieved I didn't just drop $800 on a grey import which did not work.
BTW, I am getting good support from the vendor I bought it from, so I don't feel too bad. For example, TomTom is not on this phone, so they provided a link. The s/w I downloaded would not install (invalid PowerPC application), so they said they would send it to me on a 1GB card. Not bad if they actually do! However I do want to put in an 8GB card anyway so I'll probably buy the nav software - it's one of the main things I want the phone for anyway.
If the vendor does come up with the goods, I'll post their name. It was $100 cheaper than the one my colleague uses (obviously the grey import has something to do with that!) but the support seems to be very good from a reseller.
Thanks again for the help!!

Trinity upgrading and settings on O2

Hi all, first can i give a big thanx to all on here who have contributed and made it possible for me to use my trinity again after an awful "upgrade" to an LG Renoir, may it rest in peices.
After following all the relevant steps my old Trinity is now working a treat so i thought i'd post and mention some of the possible pitfalls that a complete noob like me might have to deal with.
First was error 260 that i read quite a lot about but could not fix. having followed the relevant steps for using Vista to upgrade, including updating the USB driver i kept getting error 260. This was easily fixed eventually by using all the same cables and ROMS and radio version by using a PC running XP instead.
If you want to update your radio version, as i did to get GPS back working, i copied the relevant radio RUU_signed.nbh file to a FAT32 formatted card and renamed it trinim.nbh and inserted the card in to the phone. The update started automatically, finished, the phone reset and hey presto, new radio and working GPS.
Eventual;ly i had an unlocked Trinity working with an O2 SIM card but could not use the internet or push e-mail as i didn't know what settings i had to change or where to change them. After a phone call to O2 they told me as they didn't sell the phone they didn't support it and wouldn't give me any idea of the settings i needed. A quick internet search and i found a little app, i think on Modaco, that once you have your phone connected via ActiveSync you just run and select the network you want, all the usual suspects are there, and it updates your phone settings automatically.
All i need now is a new battery, charging every 6 hours is getting boring, and i'm good to go.
Sorry if this is long winded but for a complete noob, as i am, some times you need it like that.
Thanks again
Steve

A quick question about Connection settings in ROM's - are they regional?

Hi there,
Sorry if this a retarded question, I can't find anyone else that's asked.
Basically my unbranded Touch Pro 2 has in the data connection settings the default selections of UK and then TMobile.
What i need to know is, on these cooked ROMs will that setting still be there? If not where do i get the settings to reenable my data.
I'm going to do the HardSPL and flash thing tonight for first time. I'm a little aprehensiveso just wanna make sure I don't install some flashy ROM but lose my 3G browsing.
Thanks to whoever can set my mind at rest.
I have an unbranded tp2 on tmobile uk from expansys, connection settings with custom roms bring up tmobile uk. It did when i was flashing Kaiser roms.
Having trouble at the mo with mms on the current rom I've flashed but gonna do a bit of searching tonight to sort that.
(need to update my sig from kaiser to tp2)
cool, good to know someone else with sam setup. mine is from mobilephonesdirect.
I don't send a lot of mms, but what is the known issue?
Also were there any complications for you or a smooth install and Hardspl flash?
cheers
I think maybe we should take this to pm to keep the forum uncluttered? check your inbox.
@dazkeirle
My unbranded TP2's on T-Mobile and from MobilePhonesDirect too!
OK I was all up for flashing last night (HardSPL) but lost my bottle when i came to something which was not mentioned.
When i first started tot run the program, with my phone in an activsync connection everything was normal.
Then when i click Automatic flash, then ok on the next screen (before the screen with the picture of the TP2 on it) my TP2 goes into a kind of dead mode, black screen no lights.
Now i think this is normal from what I've read, but the weird thing is my computer indicates here that the USB is dropped and activsync disconnects, however some other drivers are then installed and the phone is sort of still connected (although that isnt indicated anywhere).
I was nervous as activsync was not there so hit cancel, did a soft reset on phone and all was still normal (preflashed state).
Please can somebody confirm that activsync only is there at the start and that the activsync will disconnect after you hit ok, it's not explicitly defined in the tutorial and I'm nervous of bricking handset.
Thanks
