Trinity upgrading and settings on O2 - P3600 Software Upgrading

Hi all, first can i give a big thanx to all on here who have contributed and made it possible for me to use my trinity again after an awful "upgrade" to an LG Renoir, may it rest in peices.
After following all the relevant steps my old Trinity is now working a treat so i thought i'd post and mention some of the possible pitfalls that a complete noob like me might have to deal with.
First was error 260 that i read quite a lot about but could not fix. having followed the relevant steps for using Vista to upgrade, including updating the USB driver i kept getting error 260. This was easily fixed eventually by using all the same cables and ROMS and radio version by using a PC running XP instead.
If you want to update your radio version, as i did to get GPS back working, i copied the relevant radio RUU_signed.nbh file to a FAT32 formatted card and renamed it trinim.nbh and inserted the card in to the phone. The update started automatically, finished, the phone reset and hey presto, new radio and working GPS.
Eventual;ly i had an unlocked Trinity working with an O2 SIM card but could not use the internet or push e-mail as i didn't know what settings i had to change or where to change them. After a phone call to O2 they told me as they didn't sell the phone they didn't support it and wouldn't give me any idea of the settings i needed. A quick internet search and i found a little app, i think on Modaco, that once you have your phone connected via ActiveSync you just run and select the network you want, all the usual suspects are there, and it updates your phone settings automatically.
All i need now is a new battery, charging every 6 hours is getting boring, and i'm good to go.
Sorry if this is long winded but for a complete noob, as i am, some times you need it like that.
Thanks again
Steve

setting sproblem - Unlocked o2 stellar with TMobile sim card

I have just bought a replacement for a lost Tmobile vario III, which is an unlocked O2 stellar. All works fine except I cannot receive MMS and internet settings from T mobile. Maybe this is because the existing O2 configuration software is still on the phone?? So questions: how doe I remove all the O2 software and settings, can anyone give me the right T mobile settings in case the automatic download never works??
I think you could be right there Jeremy - although your phone will pick up the right SMS address from the network, it needs to be taught the right MMS and GPRS/3G settings for those to work.
Easiest way is to go to T-Mobile's website, look in Support, enter your phone number and they'll send you the correct settings direct to your phone.
Next easiest is to find an HTC Network Wizard cab, as this will install the correct settings for many networks (all the ones in the UK are supported) automatically.
Last method is to enter the details manually. The T-Mobile website doesn't list them (only offers the text-to-you method) and I've used the Network Wizard for so long I can't find my piece of paper with the settings on anymore! I'm pretty sure this site has them listed correctly though http://www.mphone.co.uk/mms_wap_settings_t_mobile.html
The T-Mobile settings should overwrite the O2 ones (or show as two separate selections) but if you want to remove the O2 software completely then you're in the realms of flashing a non-O2 ROM, in which case you've come to the right place but got a lot of reading in front of you.
Stu - thanks for your reply. I have tried several times to get the setting downloaded to the phone by Tmobile but for some reason they never arrive. So I may try to download and instal the HTC Network Wizard cab although this makes me a bit nervous - if I get it wrong can I seriously screw up my phone??
Stu - I did it anyway and it worked - what a great little piece of software! Thanks so much for the help.
Next question - can I remove the O2 flash screens from the phone - any idea?

Nice thing about phones, make sure your contacts, calendar are backed up onto a PC and you can install ANYTHING without fear - if it goes really wrong, just Hard Reset to get back to factory-fresh and reinstall your contacts, etc. The only way you can seriously screw your phone up is playing with the Radio or ROM without Hard-SPL being installed or being stupid with MTTY.
Or using a big hammer on it will work well too at screwing it. As will letting my kids play ClickBall when they're in a strop....

Easy enough, thanks to POF! The wiki has a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907 and LOADS of useful info.
Thanks for all you helpfula dvice Stu. Took a deep breath and falshed my ROM, bit scary and bit complicated but finally managed to get it to work!

problems since ROM upgrade

I have worked in IT support for 8 years at the desktop support level. I dont understand all but can usually figure things out. I apologies in advance for being a rookie. I am frustrated with this device and need help!!
I upgraded ATT tilt to Dutty 6.1 Build 19700.duttys 6.1 about 1 month ago and Since I did this I have had a lot of problems. Build has all the goodies and more but since the upgrade I cant get any work done because I am always tweaking in an attempt to get the device working properly. I have tried to reset and reflash sevral times to start all over again but I end up with the same issues.
1. Unable to sync with active sync. I have disabled avast anti and I still am unable to sync. I also added port 990 to firewall and no good. I have re-installed active Sync 5 times. It only works when I play with it and then the device does not stay connected. It boots the connection 1 or 2 minutes after sync
2. No email apps or programs work. I tried the java versions and all. Messaging says error synchronizing and gives this message - "cannot cannect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings tap settings" My settings are OK as far as I can see. I purposely connect to media net before opening email to make sure the data connection is present. I had full blown HSDPA in NY city yesterday and no email or GPS working.
3. GPS and GPS upgrade is not working. Does GPS use its own radio? Does dutty upgrade break the radio? Not sure what is happening here as well.
4. No you tube video as usual. This has always been broken and remains broken for me. I tried installing flash bundle, codecs, etc.... No good.
I constantly get prompted the below
"cannot cannect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings tap settings"
Only thing that works is web browser.
Can someone please point me to a good solid working and mostly complete ROM for the US att tilt "kaiser". Maybe this is all I need. I have trouble finding ROM info and whether its current via the site. It gets confusing and I just want to set up once and forget, if you know what I mean. Please provide any links I might need to a fix, rom, tweak, etc..
Please help!
Steve
Steve, I updated to Dutty's ROM a while ago and all worked well until about a couple of weeks ago. I do not attribute my problems to the ROM though but rather the Tilt itself. My first issue was related to no activesync connectivity. My Tilt became an "unknown" device. Looking at my USB port from inside of the battery compartment notice bent pins. I was able to straighten the pins out but only could connect with one of about 10 USB cables that I had around. Once you have loaded Dutty's room I would recommend reconfiguring your connectivity to AT&T. You can download a CAB with all of the configuration setting on this board. Recently my touch screen would freeze up and not work well. I thought it might be the ROM but later found out there must have been some physical problem. Two days ago I called ATT and RMA'd my phone. I recieved the new phone yesterday and configured it last night. All is working well (USB and Touchscreen, new ROM, New SPL and new radio).
BTW last night saw (do a google search - I don't remember where I saw it) a revised video / flash version of TCXXXX software. With Dutty's ROM (and current) my GPS worked great. I use it with a couple of test GPS programs and TomTom on Com4. I also have an external BT GPS and it works well with that. Check to make sure your email is not configured for a proxy or local network connection.
Pete
Thanks Pete, Since this post I have gotten the GPS to work. There is a GPS app in programs\tools that has an enable option. I stumbled across it looking for answers. Ill check the pins on my cable as well.
Dutty's connections wizard actually had the wrong info for ATT america. I had to remove ID and password to get it working for Media Net so I hope the cab you reference is a newer one than is on my tilt.
I am still getting the same message for email. "cannot cannect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings tap settings"
I have to be missing something in the connection settings. I will try the cab, maybe it has been updated since Dutty's build.
Can you think of any thing in the connection settings?? Opera works but email gets error and message to check connections.
Ill let you know how that works.
Here are the essential 3 cab files you need for your Tilt.
1) fixes keyboard
-Install, soft reset, done
2) Sets At&t settings
-install, set up email but do not save your password
then do this
start>settings>connections>connections>advanced>select networks>change both drop downs to media net>click edit on both drop downs and go to proxy settings here you will uncheck everything. remember to do it to both dropdowns.
3) removes hidden proxy (which will allow your email to work if you are using a saved password)
-install, then go to your email set up and save your password.
edit: This will also allow you to update htc weather, quickgps, and a number of other programs without receiving errors.
good luck and have a nice day

Upgrade caused GPRS over Wifi connections, recommended to HARD-SPL??!!??

Hi everyone, I am new to this topic and have only spent more time reading some of the topics relating to Hard-SPL, Roms etc since I have a had an issue with a recent upgrade of ROM supplied via Vodafone.
I have upgraded from the shipped ROM version 1.37 to 1.97, since the upgrade i was impressed with the slight changes that Vodafone had made to the screen response, and dialer slider ... BUT... wasn't impressed with the fact I am now being charged to access Windows Live, and Hotmail.
I used to be able to sit at home and access my wireless and just check my mail, since the upgrade being connected to my wireless it still connects via GPRS.
I have spoken to Vodafone and expressed my dissappointment, and they did lower my Data plan, but still it doesn't resolve the issue that i had a service which changed without notification.
They asked me to just go by my usual usage under the GPRS for the next five days just to review my usage and see how much of an impact this would make, works fine under GPRS, just a bit miffed now I can't use a feature on my phone, anyway, I went back to vodafone after 5 days and told them that I hadn't been able to download anything through my GPRS i.e attachments on emails.
I am looking to try and get this back to normal with my connections, Vodafone told me to think about doing a HARD-SPL on my phone, to check the version and to upgrade it to my phone... I have read and read and read... Now I have guides on how to do it and understood what it is for I am now confused which version I should be going for and Which ROM, I'm very worried to 'brick' my Diamond, it's the best device I have had.
BTW... Vodafone said doing this wouldn't void my warranty... that has to be a lie!!?
So I was wondering if anybody could help me to find a Hard-SPL version, ROM, Radio version that I require to upgrade my Handset I would be most greatful.
I checked the information from re-booting my phone with the down volume button pressed and dispalys the following:
DIAM100 64M
SPL-1.97.0000
Many Thanks

TMUK Compact IV to HTC 2.03 ROM - connection settings?

Hi,
Before anyone shouts, I have searched the forums and read hundreds of posts but haven't found the answer! I have a stock TMUK MDA Compact IV which is, to say the least, slow and unstable. It's totally stock at the moment and I want to flash it to the latest official HTC Diamond 2.03 ROM as there are plenty of reports of speed and stability improvements.
Question - will the GPRS/3G connection settings (and any other network-specific setup I need) automatically detect or will I have to manually configure them after flashing? The TMUK stock ROM hides the connection details so I can't make a note of them - I therefore want to be sure I have all the details I need before I blow the old ROM away!!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Tim
I didn't use the latest official ROM, but the previous one automatically detected the network setting after 1 or 2 minutes of being "on air". You get a notification that network settings have been found, and it will ask if you want to install them.
So i assume the new ROM does exactly the same
Hi,
Do a search on Modaco, they have a cab that gives you the T-Mobile settings.
Regards
the rom will automatically pic up that its needs settings so you select the correct option then you accept the settings and all will be fine.im on TMUK with a Diamond and everything is sweet.
Upgraded fine - a few more questions!
Upgraded fine thanks everyone. I had to select my network and it automatically set up the connections. One strange thing is that if I selected "T-Mobile" the next screen of the wizard had a different network name listed! Seems that the names and connection details are mixed up, I had to go through each network and find the one with T-Mobile's settings behind it. Think it was "Fresh" in the end!
Anyway, a couple of strange things I've noticed and wondered if anyone could help. Apart from these, so far the ROM is a big improvment on the old one.
1 - My GMail account will only download over the air if I set the account to connect using my GPRS connection - if I leave it on "The Internet" it fails to connect even though the connections are configured so that "The Internet" links to my GPRS connection! Opera works fine, so it's a messaging issue.
2 - The main problem - I can't get WMWiFiRouter to install! I had it working fine on my old ROM, but when I run the cab to install now it just sits with the progress bar on zero with the rotating "busy" symbol forever. Other cabs install fine! Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tim
Never mind!
Never mind, looks like the cab file was corrupted somehow. Copied back from my PC and it installed fine!
Thanks,
Tim

Kaiser O2 to Vodaphone - web not working

Hi,
I have an O2 branded Stellar ie a Kaiser. Was working fine on O2 for internet, and just changed to Vodaphone (in the UK). Despite putting in the recommended settings of wap.vodaphone.co.uk username web/ password web into a new modem connection it won't go online. Any ideas from anyone who has done this?
Vodaphone won't help me - told me to called HTC!
cheers
Rob
Have you tried using HTC Connection Setup to reconfigure your connections?
HI - well I've been into Settings/Connections/Connections/Add a new modem connection and put in all the details I found here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
and it won't connect properly when I try to go online.
Or do you mean somewhere else?
thanks
If you go to Start, Settings, Connections, do you see an item called Connection Setup?
If not, try download and installing this cab on your phone. Once you install it, soft-reset and then go back to the same place mentioned above. Run Connection Setup and select your location and operator. It should configure your connections for you and restart your device (or prompt you to do it yourself).
Thanks this and another thread from Basti have got me up and running - voda needs a proxy apparantly...
The connection wizard will handle both networks

As someone who has used both Vodafone and (now) O2 in the UK on an HTC branded Kaiser, I've always found the connection wizard in the default HTC ROM to take care of things fully and automatically. Have you thought about putting an HTC official ROM on it? The wiki and numerous threads here at xda explain how it's done. I could never get the Vodafone Live Website to work with my standard TyTN II BTW so don't be surprised if it definitely doesn't work with an O2 version of the same phone
