On my phone, I have a problem with the contact list, I delete all the contacts on there already (the default contacts you get when you buy a new simcard like Directories, Show Balance, Voicemail etc.) and add my contacts on there, when I turn it off and switch it back on the list goes back to the default list again. Also, I tried it with my Bluetooth name (naming my device), when I restart it goes back to the default name after.....
Help please?

What ROM are you using? Where are you storing your contacts? Maybe you are adding your new contacts to SIM card and the program is setup to hide SIM contacts.
I'm using Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid UC RTM

In my contacts I have 5 contacts with a icon similar to the sim card icon, with a lock on them.
The contacts have the name '<Unnamed>'
I do not know how these contacts got there in the first place. I do not have the option to delete/edit and the contacts are empty.
How do I get rid of them?
I have the same problem . they appeared after i installed the 6.1 rom. They appear to be the phone provider numbers (vodafone). They all have lcoks on them and i cant remove them either.
I have the same problem with my Orange TyTN II with Windows Mobile 6.1.
This is just one of the many, many reasons I despise Microsoft. They are trying to turn computers into something that they and other large corporations control instead of the paying customer. And as for Orange, well, it seems their management or software development team - or both! - are complete morons.
Can anyone give me a clue how to get rid of these annoying intrusions?
try
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\ShowSim 0 = hide, 1 = show

Yes, this are pre-set contacts on your SIM card. They are saved on your SIM by your service provider. The editing of the above registry key lets you at least hide the SIM contacts in your contact list. That does not mean they are no longer there, you just do not have to see them any longer.
I was able to delete them using SBSH's PocketBreeze. I just went to Contacts Tabs and it let me delete them.
Unnamed new contacts
I have a little problem and I don't know how to fix it.
I have contacts only on my mobile phone, on my sim card is empty-see contacts on sim card is disable.
When I got new call, from unknown person, I have info that I can add this contact to my list as a new or add to already exist. I want add as a new, so i'm writing all important info: name, last name,number... and new contact I see as a "unnamed". PLEASE .. help me fix it.
Ps. Phone HTC HD, WM 6.5 with manila 2.5 v 21.1.
Ok, I know that title is a little convoluted, but I don't know how else to put it. Basically when entering the recipients name in the "To" input field, some contacts don't show up. Example: Say I wanna send a text to Brian Knoll. I open Messaging app and start typing his name in the TO box, I get Brian Davids, or Briannna, or Brittany, but no Brian Knoll. I'd have to back out, search for his contact via phone search or contacts app and then compose a text that way. This is the same for about half my contacts and is NOT rom specific. I know it's not SIM contacs screwing it up either, cause I can store a brand new contact and have the same thing happen when trying to find it. What gives???
I also noticed this problem. In fact, I only get listed those contacts which have been synced from Facebook but not the ones comming from the sim card...

I think as far as your problem is concerned, You can fix that in contact settings > import/export > import SIM contacts.
make sure its saved as a mobile number and not home or work it won't add a home number cause you shouldn't be textin a house
Easy fix.
Go to brian first and then compose the text message.
I have them made from a previous Droid but how do I set them in the Captivate? I had an Epic 4G before this phone and it was simple. Go to contact, edit contact, assign ring tone. This phone dosen't have this option(at least the option dosen't show in the settings). Is it an AT&T vs Sprint thing or do I need my contacts in certain area?
EDITED: Ok...found my answer as to why I cant but dont know how to fix.....seems that you can not asign ringtones to contacts that are linked in some way...example... I have all my contacts linked to gmail for back up and to facebook.....but AT&T numbers that are not linked to anything, I can assign...now to figure out how to un-link my contacts from google and facebook
When you edit a contact, did you scroll down far enough? There is a field to change the ringtone.
ok...this is a bunch of crap...If I am doing this right...the only way to get a ringtone for a contact is for the contact to reside on your phone...not link to any other account....so, with that said, I reset my phone to factory defaults(had to in order to get rid of the Google linked account). Then applied ringtones to certain people just for a test. Presto...ring tones...Ok...now that that is done, I want to re-download my apps from the market. Guess what? You need to link your phone to Google to get them...so what happens?...all my contacts are now linked to Google automatically and can't assign ring tones again....Is this right...am I the only one?...I cant believe that Google and Facebook contacts take precidence over contacts that are directly on the phone?...is there anyone out there that can correct me if I am wrong?
From what I can tell you have to have the contact saved on your phone to assign a ringtone.
You can make a new contact on your phone and then link it to an existing Google contact. Then when you edit the contact you can set a ringtone. At the top of the Edit page there will be tabs to switch between the Google contact and the contact on the phone. You have to edit the contact on the phone.
There are apps that can export all of your contacts and save them as phone contacts. That seems to be the quickest way of doing this if you're going to assign more than 2 or 3 different ringtones.
Try it with one first to make sure it works for you.
It there any way how to disable SIM contacts?
I'm using Google contacts but I have also contacts on my SIM card in case my phone die. Then I can use my SIM card in another "spare" phone to make necessary calls. I don't want to delete my SIM contacts.
I found that I can filter contacts for dialer in 3rd party applications
but haven't found anything for SMS contacts. I'm using GO SMS Pro.
I always got duplicate contacts when I need to add new SMS contact.
Thanks in advance for help
Goto contacts>more>display options here you can disable sim contacts.
Unfortunately this doesn't work for the SMS Contacts. It works in Dialer and Contacts itself but when you access Contacts from SMS app I always have duplicate contacts. :-(

this happen when u have some voip apps like nimbuzz and some like that it add contacts in contacts open ur contacts and see is any thing duplicating or it is just one.
hi, my phone doesnt have any voip applications or anything like that, yet it still displays it.
anyone knows how to set it so it doesnt?
yeah, noticed that too long time ago, didn't find solution so I deleted contacts from SIM.Anyway, it's a lot easier to update contacts on google than to make backup every time u change (add,delete...) something in contacts...If telephone dies-buy another Android device...it would be a pity to downgrade...

Unfortunately this is one of the few bad things about Lollipop. The ability to display only contacts with numbers was removed.
These are the only options I've been able to find of what contacts to display
I had this option in my Note Edge, but in S6 I don't see it.
I was looking under phonebook, contacts etc.
Where is this option? Is it really gone?

I found a way to fix this but it takes a bit of savey but this is a developers forum...
Export your google contacts (csv)
Sort your contacts by the phone number (there's 4 fields there, I sorted all 4 type/number) since I wasn't entirely sure the mobile 1 is really always there or not if there is a mobile 2 (1 is primary) but regardless I just wanted to separate the entries with phone numbers and those that didn't.
After sorted I deleted everything without a number.
I went into gmail and made a Phone contact list (if you want you can make an example entry so you know what it looks like I guess) but I could tell it was like * something:::* All Contacts in the one field, I just changed this to * Phone:::*All contacts
then I wrote out the file
Unfortunately even thought it's a CSV it tab delimited it vs comma (this may have been the libreoffice)
so i edited with vi and substitute all tabs with ,'s
s/(control-v)(tab)/,/g
when I did this is also had three "blank" lines at the beginning with all ,'s so I just deleted those to get the titles on the top.
I then went back into gmail contacts and imported this file
It populated all those entries in my Phone contact list
I then went to the phone and told it to only display entries from my Phone contact list and ...
PRESTO - I see only the entries with numbers now
Everything else is there but I don't see it in my phone when i want to select someone to dial!
Personally I think this is BS to have to do this but I just don't think there is another option.
Solution
A simpler solution is by going to Contacts - Settings - Display preferences - Hide incomplete numbers.
Im running MIUI 7 Lollipop
