If i insert microSD card into my phone i loose 4.5MB of RAM! If i remove it i get it back. Can anyone else try this and confirm? What could be the reason for that?
4.5MB of RAM because of microSD
I just tried it and what I lose is 0.82MB (that is, 820k) when I plug in the microSD card. I believe what you lose depends on the format of your microSD card. As in normal PC's, every attached drive takes up some RAM, the RAM size depending on the cluster size of the attached drive. MicroSD and other memory cards are generally factory-formatted to FAT. This is inefficient. As a rule, I always reformat my memory cards to FAT32 before using them. This drastically reduces the cluster size and so makes storage more efficient.
I just tried what you said. After i format my microSD (2GB SanDisk) to FAT32 there is no difference. I still loose 4.5MB.
That's too much!

Did you restart the device after reformating the microSD card?
Yes, i did. I even tried other microSD card (128MB), it's the same.
16MB of free RAM is way to little! And to loose more than 25% of that just by inserting memory card is unbelievable!
do you have the phone set to dump anything onto the card or just as raw storage? something from the factory might be set to check the card, that is definately a new one.
Pictures from camera are stored on my storage card by default if that's what you mean.

I must say this is an unusual problem. What brand of microSD card do you have? Does it have an auto-encryption/decryption which runs immediately the card is inserted?

Hmm I could see it being the higher speeds that the ultra touts that the phone might not be able to handle? Sounds weird and un likely but this is a very weird issue. However if your other card wasnt Ultra II then that nerfs that idea.
It could be a defect in the hardware itself.
I tried to hard reset my phone and then when i insert microSD card i loose around 850kb. So, it must be some application that's causing this. I'll have to uninstall one by one application to figure it out which one is it.
Problem solved...HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache - set to 0 !
What about cachesize value? mine is set to 0 so it shouldn't eat ram.

I am not sure, mine is set to 8192.
It's not just the SD card.
Also the SIM card, When I removed my SIM card and booted the phone it was more responsive and I failed to get the Out of memory error (launching IE, all sorts of apps, and the camera) wich I consistently got with the sim card inserted.

Everytime i insert my card it asks me if i want to format it to make it readable? - even though i formatted it in my computer. Also i cant write anything to it when my 8125 recognizes it in a slot. The cars is SanDisk so it should be a good quality.
I'm using a 2GB SanDisk card with no trouble at all. I _didn't_ format it on my PC but rather used it straight out of the box.
Do you still have the same message if you let the 8125 format the card?
i tried doing that and it says that the phone cannot recognize the card.... the weird thing is that the card goes in crooked and the fit isnt perfect i have to push it in hard.....
Quite a few people reporting a problem like this - seems to be fixed with sktools or storage tools (google them demos allow you to format - install on device) and format card on device to fat16.

I have the same problem before, i tried to format it to fat16 and the 2gb minisd was recognized as 1gb instead of 2, tried every solution from getting compatible version of a card reader to re-format using fdisk via DOS., Called the manufacturer and they we're happy to replace it. They advised that it should be re-formatted as fat only and not fat16 via DOS using the card reader.
good to know as i just bought a 2gigger.
The problem is that you formatted it on your PC. USe SKtools to format it on your device and you should be all set. I think the demo version of SKtools allows you to do this stuff.
i use my 2 GIG since i bought the phone almost 4 months ago without any hassle.
Just used the card out of the box without formatting it.
This issue is reported several times and is caused by using a not compatible cardreader on the PC to format the card.
A lot of the (even usb 2.0!!) cardreaders is not capable of reading over 512MB memory cards. If you use a 1Gb or 2GB card on such a reader it will probably say the card is not formatted. WHEN you do format the card using that reader, you wil make it unusable.
 Make sure you format the card via a compatible cardreader to avoid this.
 If you get a 'card not formatted' message, try to read from / write to it in your device first (before attempting to format)
Just got my 2GB card....MDA won't read it.
Camera won't read it.
PC can read it. It was Fat32, I reformatted it to Fat...still a no go in the phone or camera, but works on the PC....what gives?

I have a SanDisk 2Gig card. It worked fine right out of the package. Haven't had any problems with any of the ROMs I've run on my 8125.

my 2GB card works fine, except for the fact that it's stuck in there.. i need to tak it apart and fix the spring loaded latch somewhere in there..
I got a 2GB from Amazon: OEM 2GB MINISD Mini Secure Digital (SD) Card but it did not work on my Cing 8125.
TopRam
I have been using a 2GB miniSD made by TopRam. Works in the 8125 and with my USB card reader no problem since day one. 8125 recognizes the entire 2 gigs (well minus just a few bits...about 99% of the card). Got it off eBay while I was waiting for the phone in the mail. Never needed formatting or anything..worked straight from the package. I was a little worried at first that it wasn't one of the "well known" brands of cards, but there have been no problems whatsoever.
I'm using the Transcend 2Gb 80x MiniSD. Works like a charm.
Keep in mind that SLC flash chips (mainly made by Samsung and a.o. used by Transcend and Mobymemory) have longer lifetime, are faster and consume less power than MLC flash chips. Disadvantage is that SLC is more expensive. Bought my 2GB for approx 62 euros.

1 GB Dane-elec Xs work fine on my Qtek 2020i(XDA2i)
you may format card before use
I have you tried any other card in your XDA IIi.
I have a DANE-ELEC 1 GB SD card and a INOV8 512 MB cards
and both work well.
Sorry I can't be of more help
Muzza
Kingston 2 GB (30651-001.A00LF p799861x01)work as well,
maybe i should have purchase a 4 GB
Scandisk 1GB SD card working fine!
transcend 2gb 150x absolutely fine work =))
maybe you have bad card? or maybe format it via cardreader can help..
My Kingston 2GB works great on the device, might be a case of a bad card for you, tried it on any other devices?
Worked
I use Kingston 1Gb SD card... 50x and it works fine... maybe your battery is dying
I think theres still a 4gb SD card at work which I'll give a go tomorrow if I get a chance.
I work at CeX in Brighton, England, and we get a lot of different types of memory cards in. So far I'm just using a standard SanDisk 512mb card, but will eventually get a 2 or 4gb (the 4gb we have is £120 >.<)
Kingston SD Card 1GB works fine on my XDA IIi. What brand do you use anyway?
XDA IIi definately supports up to 4gb (150x) cards.
I just got a "Topram' 4gb 150X...despite formatting both via card reader and my device it will not read...
Does it show the card size in the Memory cp? Or can you just not transfer files to and from it?
neither...as soon as I insert it into the 2i I am asked to format it to make the card ledgible...so I agree...but it still does not show up at all. Neither in memory size menu or file explorer.
I have formatted it via card reader on the compeuer too...It accepts files via card redaer so the card itself is ok.
But every single time I insert it into the PDA it asks me to format it again and it never shows up.
bit off topic but as anyone else had a problem with SD/MMC cards working for a while (sometimes as little as 6 months other times over a year) then totaly stopping ie show as not being there in any card reader, only to come back to life after about 12 months stuck in a draw. I have had this with 2 cards so far and got 1GB card in the draw at the moment which stopped working just as I put some important files onto it
SD Cards
I have a 4GB Transcend, 2GB SanDisk and a 512MB Unbranded and they all work perfectly fine in my xdaIIi, maybe your card reader is a bit iffy?
EDIT: By card reader I mean the bit that you insert the card into the xdaIIi
It may simply be certain makes of cards that work, and certain that dont. All you can do is hope the retailers let you try before you buy

erm... u made sure u formated them as FAT not FAT32? i had no end of probs with my 2020 when i did that, and the 1gb unbranded card i have in my 2020i is FAT and works fine, as most hand helds and camera (i use it in my konica/minolta SLR digital, it hates FAT32 file systems too) format them as that and jobs a good one!
I have been trying to find the best method for getting a 64gb SD card to work with my phone, and it has not been all that successful. I have formatted in NTFS, exFat and FAT32, all with varying degrees of success. Either copying files over leads to data corruption, or I cannot write from and to the SD card when it is being accessed by my device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am currently running CMPrime ROM v1.1Beta with the included kernel. I have also tried using it with Unnamed Kernel.
I just received my Samsung 64gb EVO MicroSDXC UHS-I card this morning. I popped it into my phone and it asked me to format before I could use it. So I clicked yes and then after that it just worked.
I am not sure what would be different for a custom rom as IU use the offical Lollipop 5.0.2. It shouldn't be much different though.
FAT32 is your best bet. I have a 64GB Lexar card formatted in FAT32 working fine with Titan Prime.
It's possible that something is wrong with the card. Does the card work fine in other devices? What brand is it?
Could also be a hardware issue with your phone, have you tried other cards?

I bought a no-name SD card from a Chinese manufacturer, because I figured "why not." I know quality of SD cards vary across manufacturers, but since it's an established technology and relatively easy to make, I thought it'd be worth a chance. Some quick Google-Fu showed that it is not a completely isolated issue related to SD failure.
I have a 32gb card that I'm using without any issues. I'm asking specifically about 64gb, because 32gb seems to be the max size for external storage.

I usually give ROM info, because it is common courtesy for dev communities. I have read that formatting through the device only accomplishes a rather crude job, and that file structures can be unsound. I know FAT32 is the standard, but it is an old format that has size limitations.

But what about the limitations regarding max. file size and data transfer speeds?
I believe you should be able to use NTFS or exFAT with the kernal you're running, though I don't know if there might be any bugs or compatibility issues with some cards. If even FAT32 isn't working correctly, my suspicion if that you have a bad MicroSD card. As a rule of thumb I always buy brand name from reputable sources when it comes to microsd cards. I know those cheap ones look tempting, but the quality issues with them are legit, so it's a real crapshoot.
And yes, you'll run into the same old limitations with FAT32 in terms of file size, etc., but I use it anyway since it has the widest support across devices and I sometimes swap my cards.

I am inclined to call this a bad SD card, but I want to rule out all other possible reasons. Null Hypothesis and all that.
In terms of performance of FAT32, it is registered by the ROM, and it is visible in recovery. But my music files are not readable in Google Music or any other music app. I've tried moving them to /sdcard1/media/music and it is still balls. This kind of behavior leads me to think that it is an actual formatting issue.

Max file size for fat32 is 4GB-1byte. Should be not a problem unless you plan on putting e.g. large hd-movies on the card. Speed isn't affected by the partition type (actually it is, but it's negligible in this case). No-name sdcards are often manufactured with low quality check standards. They sell cards that would normaly get tossed into trash. I use a 64gb card with no problem whatsoever. On windows use http://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/ because windows will only allow up to 32gb. On linux use gparted.

I occasionally save audio recording/mixing sessions as OMF files, which can end up being really large, particularly if I export at 64-bit sampling and 96khz frequency. So the 4gb limit can be a bit annoying to deal with, in that regard.
I wasn't aware about the cheaper SDcards potentially being of b or failed stock. I'll probably buy a new card under a trusted brand, and report back.

Acquired a Sandisk MicroSDXC Ultra UHS-1 64gb card. Tried using it in my android phone. I am able to load files onto the SD card as before, but I still experienced the same issues with Media Scanner failing to account for my music files on External SD. Worse yet, my Titanium Backup files became corrupted when trying to access them via the device. I did a Nandroid Backup and tried a clean install to rule out any potential conflicts with my ROM, only to find that the issues remained, and the Nandroid disappeared from the TWRP backup folder.
At this point, I'm starting to think that it's an issue with the phone itself. WHY CAN I NOT HAVE 64GB OF SPACE, MOTO G!!!?
I bought a sandisk 64gb card off amazon on black Friday, immediately put it in my phone and let the device format it.
Later, I put the SD card in my computer so I could create a 2nd partition for ext4 storage.
The phone had formatted the card Fat32...has been working just fine since then.

When I try to mount the SD card in the phone, it does not register. It only works after I format to FAT32 using TWRP. So I will probably try that.
So 32gb in FAT32, then 32GB in Ext4, and leave back-ups/other files there?
64 card files wont all play
Hi I have a new moto g, I also put in a 64 sd card, while the music files seemed to play fine, video and other files the phone reads some of them not others, I put the same file internally and on the sd card and it reads the internal version of the file. My understanding is that, if you have a FAT32 SD Card, then larger files (4gb+) cannot be read. ExFAT and NFTS should solve this problem, but I am still dealing with issues of reliability with my card accessing my music files post-formatting.
Finally discovered the problem. I downloaded SD Insight from the Play Store, and I found that the SD cards I got off ebay were invalid (including the Sandisk SD Card). I picked up a PNY High Performance 64GB Micro Secure Digital Extended Capacity (microSDXC) Flash Media Card from a local computer store, and after formatting to FAT32, everything works.
Moral of the story: buy your **** from a store.

That's strange, i have no problems with mtp in win7, looks like win10 doesn't worth updating. Btw, i tried exFAT before and it strangely limited file size to 4 GB like in FAT32.
Here's the story and info.
I got the Blu R1 HD (prime special) went down to Target and bought thier DANE 64GB CL10 MicroSD for $20. Plugged it in and formatted it as internal storage. (A cautionary not then said, "if formatted as internal memory SD card will ONLY work in this device) I chose, who cares and continued.
Worked great for a day or two ... but then it happened ... it went missing! All the apps and data was gone. A notification popped up and said, "Transcendent SD card missing. reinsert this device". I did as the all knowing phone asked but to no avail, it wouldn't recognize it.
I rebooted the phone and a massage popped up saying "system properties not responding. Wait or Quit" I've tried both options, doesn't seem to make a difference.
I tried reformatting it in the phone and it wouldn't unmount. Tried on our computers (both pc and Mac) and neither computers were allowed access to the sd card to reformat it.
I then returned the sd card thinking that it might be flawed, got another one from Target and it worked great ... for about two weeks... Then went missing.
Did everything mentioned above. Got the new one and it worked for 4 weeks, thought my problems were over ... then the SD card ran away again and is now currently missing. The phone does not recognize that there is a sd card when looking for it in a file explorer. In settings it says the sd card is corrupted.
Is my phone messed up? I'd it the brand of SD card? Is there a way to make the phone recognize the sd card?
Please help me find my missing sd card.
Same problem, SD Card is showing as corrupted. I have it installed as internal storage and have for over a month with no problems. SD is a Patriot LX 64gb. I haven't changed anything on the phone. I have not fine anything but reseat the SD. Any help is massively appreciated!
Maybe the problem is using a 64GB MicroSD Card. The phone specs say it's supports up to 32GB only.

That is incorrect it supports 64GB SD, many report success with 128GB cards, so I doubt its an issue with size...

Okay I caved and tried to reformat it, and all it does is fail, or drops off half-way as though I had removed the card. If I try to put the card in my computer or any other device it just straight doesn't exist, doesn't even say it isn't compatible or anything, just straight doesn't exist. Think the card is just bad, gonna return it and get a new one, will see what happens.
I have had a SANDISK Micro SDXC UHS-1 64GB CARD in mine for almost 5 months now and no issues.
I see I'm not the only one with this issue, although mine is a little different... I got a generic 128gb card and plugged it in, has been issue free for months... BUT, lately and for what seems like no apparent reason, the card guess missing... Rebooting the phone sees the card again with all apps and photos intact. It could be weeks/days/hours/minutes before it happens again... Shortest turn around - about 10 minutes. Longest - about 2 weeks... Haven't tried plugging the card directly into my computer yet, but when it is mounted on the phone it works fine (until it goes missing). Thought maybe it was because it was a cheap card...
Greetings!
I purchased a new SD card from SanDisk with 400GB.(didn't use my old one on this phone because of low storage size)
My problem is that i'm unable to copy/move/delete files to my SD card.
I can't even create a new folder.
I tried several explorers and activated the permissions for writing but no success.
I was also trying another SD card but the same problem.
If I format the card over my phone as internal storage the phone freezes, formatting as external storage is working though.
I also formatted the card on my PC but still the same issue.
Remounting the card in the settings sometimes works for a few seconds.(creating a folder,etc..)
My razer phone 2 has the newest FW with Android 9.

Heya buddy,
Just a quick enquiry, from where did you purchase your MICROSD? it sounds like you may have a fake card, the memory size is worrying indication, normally cards are sold in denominations of 32, 64, 128, 512,GB not 400 GB. Have you run a check to see if it's reporting the correct capacity size on a SD card checker. Sounds like it's a fake and when it tries to format, it goes into a loop state and crashes as the card is formatted over and over and over trying to reach the stated size but never reaches it due to it not being 400gb in size.
Sorry to spread the bad news, have had the same happen to me, I am so dam careful over which company I buy my cards from.

I bought it on amazon. Its a SanDisk Ultra 400GB that also appears on the official homepage. I'm pretty sure its not a fake.

Ok, that clears up the possibility of it being fake good good..
..hmmmmm. Do you have any old phones at your disposal that have a card slot? If so,. Try it in those and see if you can access it and read/write/modify files on it. Maybe format it with another device and then stick it in the razer and see if it works.
I'm sure now that cards a real deal as Amazon don't seem to allow frauds to be sold the only other thing I can think of is that it's a faulty card, it happens, they are just mass produced. Maybe a replacement if it's dudd.
I am having an SD card issue as well. I have had my Razer Phone 2 since last Monday brand new from Ebay. I purchased a Samsung 128GB class 10 (u3) SD card for it from Amazon. If I format the SD card as "internal", it shows that there is 131GB's of system files on my SD card. It shows I'm using 131GB's of storage from a total of 320GB's. The Razer Phone 2 has 64GB;s plus my 128GB SD card which would be 192GB;s total. I have tried many file manager apps, move to SD apps, etc and I cannot transfer any files. When I format the 128GB SD card as "portable", it shows the correct amount of storage space in both the phone and the card but once again I cannot transfer any files to the card. I have tried a 16GB SD card as well. The phone did recognize it and read the available storage on the phone and the card correctly. I did not format that card as I have music, photos and documents on it. I did try to transfer an app from my phone to the 16GB card and once again I could not do that. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance and take care.
I have had similar problems with my Razer2. It ruined a 512g scandisk brand microsd card. Copying, or moving files, is a real problem for this device! It hangs up sometimes and ruins the files. Never had these issues, this bad, with any other phone
I have a bunch of music on my SD card, my music app sees some of them. If I move the whole folder to my phone storage, music app sees all. If I boot to twrp (per arters kernel) and try to backup to external SD card, it fails. If I save it to the phone, works fine. It's like it doesn't constantly see the SD card slot properly.
Exfat is needed with art kernel. Stock formats as vfat a old file system. I have a 400gb exfat formatted and works perfectly
I'll have to look into getting that kernal
256gb samsung Sd card mine works fine razer phone 2
