I am aware of the Oxios Memory Program and the use off Task Manager to save memory but I have some questions.
1. Is there a way to really shutdown a program after Using it, without going to Task Manager or something like that? I tried the HangUp Button, Home Button, Go Back button etc but it's not really shutting down the program, and only a few program's has an Exit item build in the menu.
2. Is it possible to get a list of current running applications (like PPC phones have in the top right) or an other way to navigate trough currently running applications. Sometimes I'm using mail, a Game and Media Player together and then the only way to navigate between them is by using the home button and then go back trough the list of apps, though this is very limited.
To my knowledge there is nothing like this. A solution would be to remap a hardware button state to the task manager to more easily launch.
Yeah I've modified my homescreen with a small Launcher (just the Standard last opened Apps Launcher, nothing special though). This quickens everything a lot, but as you other users know is still not optimal.
Thanks for your thoughts Anyway.
I'd recommend you Smarttoolkit (free download here). It combines hibernation (like oxios) and superb task manager (and other features). I use version RC08, because RC09 doesn't always work properly for me...
First I thought STK was some sort of Tweak Utility, but I recently saw some screenshots of a flasy program and download -> installed that and I loved it, it only had some hang up issues but after downgrading to RC08 this was reduced to almost nothing.
Later on I noticed the program I was using now is the programm you recommended me, thanks after all.

Another great program to run alongside STK is AppCloser http://wwwu.edu.uni-klu.ac.at/apitman/appcloser/index.php
Very easy to set up and you can add the apps you want to automatically close when you press home into a text pad.
Hope this helps.
I run on s620 but works on all Windows smartphones, just looking at the s730 thread due to thinking about getting one.

Hello all, i just bought an android G1 from a friend, when it came it was already installed cyanogen mod, then i thought it should of rooted, (by the way i dont know how to root or how to check if its rooted) i am very new on this platform so i have many problems and questions but for now , i tried to change google account which was my frends account to use g1 with all 100 percenti but i couldnt find any proper way to switch my google account, then i finally found hard reset thing and did it, after all i could log on my google on my g1 and i felt a bit shocked with all those missing parts on the android platform as a winmo user before, even my HTC artemis had better skills on internet browsing such flash support over skyfire and easy wifi DNS change and have free web browsing without banned pages.. anyways i was trying to install some games and apps from the market till i got the notification of low memorry ohhh ****, its a nightmare to have hundreds of apps but no place to install, how stupid but then i found a solution on the net to help installin apps directly to your sd card, while i was following this steps on the xda forum pages, i restarted my fone again after having the img file launched with 1.4 version, then i realized all my installed apps icons were lost, then i saw they were gone from my g1 but when i go to app store, they are still on my downloaded programms list, but they are not in storage, thats becase now i cant install them again because they are seen already installed, how can i fix this problem guys , and thanks for the help already.!!!!!!1
Hey, thanks for steppin' up! No matter how snarky I get, or how nice I am, some people just don't get it. It's always great when someone does get it.
If you have a cyanogenmod, then you have root.
How can i get my apps back from the market when they show apps are already installed?
I guess I'd uninstall and reinstall from within the Market App. Open "Market," click on a listing of an app that says it's installed but you can't see in your app drawer (the program for the Home screen and app drawer is call Launcher.apk... apk is the equivalent of exe, more or less). on the bottom of the screen there should be two buttons, Open and Unistall. I'd uninstall and reinstall the ones you want that way.
Yeah, I miss WinMo, too. I still use PhatPad in my old phone and PC. But the capacitive screen really is nicer for fingers, and I'm more addicted to XDA and hacking phones than I am to having a hard-core useful phone (although the native ouTube App beats any I've found for WinMo, and I actually use the native contacts app). I got tired of the bugs, too, since they'd hose the whole OS and force you to decide to reboot. Android just blows past an error and lets it not work, but keeps the OS up. When I'd run out of memory or something in WinMo on an incoming call, the phone would freeze, and then there's a 3 minute reboot. In Android, it just slows down so I get less ring time to answer, but I can call back right away, and it boots in two minutes.
Java makes really nice interfaces and games, too.
I think it'll be about a year or so and Android will be running on par with WinMo (WinPh?) with Flash and alternative browsers apps, and has a few more things to offer that other smartphone OS's can't. It's fun finding them. It's been really exciting watching the progress, and how hard people work for little or no money, just because it's open source.
Oh, and PhatPad was $44. My current Note app, NoteEverything was $2. I miss the stylus and making animations, but that's it. I certainly don't miss Activesync.
yes you are right, but the buttons in the market of that application, are both missing, inactive, you cannot click both of them, thats why i cant uninstall or install or open the app.. i still wonder how to clear the app store cache without factory reset or hard reset which is a really long way to follow.
Hey, I was wondering if it were at any way possible to add a quit or kill button to the menu popup that will end the currently loaded app? Maybe the devs can come up with a way to implement a global method that will work with any currently open app when you press the menu button?
I know they have the task killers and all that.. but I just thought it would be a neat modification while I was in browser and came across a situation where I had to restart the browser and couldn't figure out a way to kill it without having to download a task killer....I just seldom need to kill all apps is why I don't have advanced task killer installed anymore. ...
Each application's menu is within that application itself. It would have to be something in the pull-down menu, and that would only be visible if the application allows it.
A nice alternative might be to add a "kill top" to the long-press-home.
Although it really isn't too hard to go to home, open a terminal, and kill the problem application.

Although closing apps is actually against the ethos of Android I tend to agree that, whilst we still attach ourselves to old paradigms, a close function would be nice. Perhaps a little x on the right hand side of the app's entry in the navigation list would be good. It could be implemented universally (using the same Android close app mechanisms as are used for low memory conditions) and would not require modifications to any apps.
In the meantime, you do realise you can close a single app from Settings | Applications | Manage Applications right?

^haha you know it! Nah but actually I enabled that browser download any file type setting In astro which required a restart of the browser and I was feeling lazy when I thought it would be nice to have a close button.
And ya.I am aware of the manage applications deal in the built-in settings. But I was jus thinking it would be nice to be able to close it while I'm still I'm the actual app itself.
Nice to know it could be possible tho
I have cognition 2.2 beta7. I have made every attempt to remove that stupid task manager, but it's hijacked the long press home option even after I removed it. Anyone know what I would do to get back to the normal long press home thing?

The long press home has always brought up a dialog for selecting recently run apps as a sort of short cut to multitasking even in the stock eclair rom shipped by samsung. The only difference in the froyo leak is that dialog now contains a link to enter a new front end app to the task manager.
I don't know how to remove that link - I'm guessing you will have to edit something in the framework somewhere. And by the way - you may have or be able to remove the front end user interface app to the android task manager but you can't remove the actual android task manager and still have the phone be operational.
The long press home thing in android isn't exactly a "Task Manager" in stock android. It functions as a way of accessing apps.
The front end app, has hijacked that screen by adding it's button to it.
I was able to delete the app, but now I am stuck a task switcher screen that has a broken task manager link on it. (which if clicked happens to lock up the entire device.)
I'm sure I'd have to get down and dirty somewhere, but I just don't know where.

That dialogue was not hijacked by anything - the link was intentionally encoded by someone from samsung to be in the dialogue in froyo 2.2
Ugh. Why would they do that to us?
That link below is why I think it's stupid. (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links yet but I'll try anyway.)

Yes. While task managers have value in allowing someone to watch their phone learn what is going on with their and give them some knowledge and a tool for trouble shooting, far too many people are using them as a system resource management tool, killing processes and apps without really knowing what they are doing or that it is completely unnecessary. Often people are even doing more harm then good as they are going way too far in their zest to kill that they are keeping their phone from operating properly.
I think that is what samsung is probably attempting to accomplish with this limited front end app to the task manager that is being included in their froyo builds - trying to give people a tool to satisfy some of there (way over the top) task killing mania while keeping people safe from getting to deep in there task killing and causing problems.
Hopefully more and more people will start getting the message - quit all the arbitrary unneeded task killing - use your task manager keep tabs on your phone and to catch any problem apps that you may of installed - and leave the resource task managing to the actual built in OS task manager as it really does do a good job - so long as you don't have some poorly coded resource hog software installed.
Okay, so far, mostly good, but have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. I've used autonooter for 1.0.1 (after upgrading the firmware to 1.0.1 of course) and also disabled the cell and telephony services by renaming them to .OLD.
1) How do you get the web button to actually launch a different browser than the stock one? I've installed Dolphin and Dolphin HD and set each in turn as the "default browser" in their settings and mutliple times after multiple reboots. But when I use the 'web' button on the NC menu, it always takes me to the stock browser. What am I missing here?
2) I don't want the 'email' app running. I don't need it, don't want it (have web-based email for everything I need), but can't figure out how to keep it from running. Or maybe I just don't understand what it does? Can someone explain either the necessity of email or how to shut it off?
3) I also notice something called 'social' running. Have no clue what it is and figure I probably don't want or need it running. Can anyone explain this one for me (why I need it or how I shut it off)?
4) Has anyone found a workaround to replace needing a reboot to make installed apps show on the extras page?
5) How to you manage the 'extras' page? As the amount of installed apps grows, the page is becoming more and more difficult to use. Is this something simple I'm missing?
6) I noticed the open book/recently reading icon doesn't work now unless I use the stock launcher. I've read that all you have to do is run it once (then go back to softkeys or whatever) and the button works, but also read that disappears each time you restart (see above). Is there any workaround to having to do this?
7) Is is possible to remap the other keys? For example, make the open book button do something else? Or the keys in the menu that comes up?
8) Lastly...what size microSD card does everyone recommend? Seems anything over 4GB would just be a waste.
Thanks to anyone who responds!

Don't use the Web button. Launch the browser.
Set it to sync manually. Fixed.
Ignore, part of B&N
Use a launcher. ADW Launcher works great.
See above
Pretty sure if you hit the softkey for the B&N apps, hit Library, then tap the Book icon you're talking about it will launch the last book. 2 extra taps.
Those aren't keys, and let's just say no.
Anything under 8G ain't going to have much music or data. Up to you.
Thanks khaytsus but...
1) When you say "launch" the browser, from where do you mean? I tried the web icon in Zeam and it does the same thing. Are you saying the only way to use an alternate browser is to open extras or apps and launch it? So 'set as default' doesn't work on any of these browsers?
2) I set up the email check frequency to never but it still runs once rebooting.
4) Tried using the applications icon in Zeam and ADW, but it still doesn't show newly installed applications until a reboot.
6) Thanks for the suggestion, but the book button still doesn't work.
Any other thoughts?
Don

I'm not sure I understand why that's relevant. Have you posed that question to the hundreds of others on here who have done so?
I am curious why people choose to root.
Just root your own and find out.
Sent from my hacked nook color.
I am rooted. I rooted because I thought this $249 eReader would make a great tablet with the right hacks/rom. So far the market, gmail, calendar and others things work great. Waiting patiently for CM7.
4/5 Theres no readin to use the b&n bar. Use the app drawer (from adw or zeam) to launch your apps. In the app drawer hold down your browser (use dolphin hd or another, the default is no good) icon and it will make a shotcut on the main screen. You dont really ever have to use the default bn stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872295 Do this to put books on your homescreen. Even when u close a book it will remember the last page u were on.
6 Its broke, havent seen a work around.
Hello,
I have with me an app I would like to share with the HD2, and XDA community which I previously found on the Google Market which now doesnt exist anymore.
I managed to copy out the APK and I will attach below.
The app is good for
Listing all your installed apps quickly so you can remove them
Smooth scrolling
Sort by Name/Size/Last Installed/Install Location
Search
Just needs to build cache during first launch, and doesnt work on LANDSCAPE, which are the only disadvantages of it.
I personally use the Last Installed sorting mechanism, to view all the last installed and remove. I install quite a number of apps and usually when I found that it sucked, I enter this app quickly and remove them (latest apps appear on top of the list)
I have been using this since 2.2 FROYO and it doesnt seem to give errors back then. On GB 2.3, I noticed an occasional error message :
[Opps Sorry I got error ] but this doesnt stop it from uninstalling the application.
I have given this app rigorous testing and it has survived 2.2+ and 2.3+ Androids application removal, whether it produces errors or not.
I also noticed that this app has been removed from the Google Market, without reason from the developer / Google. Hence I would not mention anything about future release or support, neither do I know whether it would damage your device/ operating system but I certainly ONLY been using this app to remove applications and it has been TREMENDOUSLY awesome. Give it a try, and let me know whether you found similiar apps in terms of speed, features and outlook.
Credits to its developer, which I remember to be known as MINIGUY after a few Googles. I also couldnt find this application anymore hence I am posting it here
If this has been posted before I apologize.
Dont forget to click the THANKS button if you found this app useful
On another note, this applications is FREE and is not WAREZ

i think ive tried appsaver but this is an app that lists out all your apps pretty quickly and lets u just choose to uninstall them
its like add/remove programs, but way way faster than anything ive tried especially 200 apps
default manage applications takes nearly 15 seconds to load, while this takes 1-2 seconds, tops
Thanks for the app. I will give it a try! :0)
I realized that this application was ripped and published as someone else's work as follow up
its called "Uninstaller" in market , which uses the same error message, logo, text, font, settings, buttons, icons
you are free to use both as they produce the same results and same settings
