Missing sim card? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Okey, here is a stange problem!
I purchased a used Tytn II today, and everything seems to work fine! BUT there is a BIG BUT, every time I restart my device it says that the sim card is missing even tough it is in fact in the device, then I have to take the card out reset the device shut it off again and insert the sim card!
Sometime it works and sometimes I have to repeat that procedure several times before it realises that there is a sim card!
Is someone else having this problem, and if yes how do you go around fixing this?
Or is my device simply broke?
Thanks in advance!

I posted this a couple of months ago - works for me
"Happened to me when I got a T-Mobile PAYG SIM last week to trial for data coverage.
Popped SIM in and worked well.
I then tried a Vodafone Sim and that was ok.
When I put the T-Mobile SIM back in - I got the message "no SIM found"
Tried Orange and Vodafone and they both gave the same message !
I was not convinced the SIM'S were making good contact - there seemed too much movement under the flimsy metal crossbar.
The solution to get the T-Mobile and other SIM's working was to insert a small piece of paper on top the SIM as you slide it under the metal crossbar.
This puts a little bit of extra padding on top of the SIM to help make decent contact.
I suppose the paper could be put on top of the crossbar instead to achieve the same effect but have not tried this.

Also make sure the sim is clean - use a pencil eraser is one suggestion.

So far so good!

Okey, I tried to put some paper between and so far it works!
The strange thing is that I did not even try to replace the card, I just rebooted the device and the sim card was missing!
Cant figure that out!

Hi there,
I just wanted to stop in and say thank you! I have been beating my head against the wall for the past two weeks over why my Tilt kept losing its network connections in perfect conditions and constantly telling me the SIM card was missing. Reseating it only worked once in a great while, but slipping a piece of paper in there seems to have done the trick nicely. I did notice that the contacts on the Tilt dig grooves into the SIM card contacts - do you think perhaps this is the problem or is this common among cell phones?

Thanks Bigdish, worked for me too.

thanks a lot for the information, putting a paper on the SIM resolved the issue in my tytn II, I was so nervous when I saw sim not found in my phone and tried to do reset several times and also repeated the ROM upgrade several times and finally a piece of paper served the purpose thanks....

"sim card missing" happenign from time to time

I get this message on my Kaiser from time to time and the device looses connection with operator. I have to power down, open the sim card cover, move the card a little, close the cover and turn Kaiser on. Do you think it is rather the card or the phone problem ? Or ROM/Radio ROM combination ?
And to be more specific I use:
ROM Dutty's V4
Radio 1.27.12.29
Protocol 22.45.88.07H
Any suggestion would be appreciated

Yeah, that was happening to me at first. All I did was take out the SIM card, rubbed the metal side on my jeans a little (I know, very scientific) and reinstalled it. That cleared it right up, there must have been a little oxidation or something on the metal that was preventing a solid connection.
use eraser for ball pen. It works, but don't rub it too hard as it will scratch the surface of the metal.

The Sim Card Is Missing

this is not a repeated topic
i searched all the web for solution but i couldn't find any
my At&t tilt is unlocked it works perfectly for short time ever few resets
else, it give the message "the sim card is missing" you can srtill make emergency calls if your provider supports it
i tried every thing, unlocker, hard spl, all the tools herebut nothing worked
can any body help?
Any chance the SIM is loose in its mounting?
It looks to me like there is a bit is wiggle space in the SIM slot.
did you try another SIM card?

One of my kaisers uses an old sim where a layer of laminate had been peeling away. This meant that when I inserted the sim, the loose laminate folded back on itself and acted as an insulator between the brass phone and sim contacts. So I removed the offending laminate but still had the occasional "no sim installed". The problem was that the sim was now a little thinner. I applied pressure to the centre of the metal belt that holds the sim in place ensuring that the contacts were "always together" and have not had any problem since.
I hope this simple solution works for you.

ANother thing you can try is rubbing the gold portion of the SIM card on your jeans or clean it off with a pencil eraser. I had that problem, and it stemmed from a little corrosion or crud building up on the face of the SIM card, and by rubbing it on my jeans it cleaned the corrosion off and the sim was able to make good contact with the points in the card slot.
Sometimes sim cards go bad. I've had about half a dozen go bad out of about 40 devices that I have supported over the last couple of years. AT&T acts like it's a common occurence and no big deal. I just take the device to one of their storefronts and they replace it immediately.

Did you try unplugging the battery, put the sim card and then reinsert the battery and start?

hey just wanted to say thanks. i just added a piece of paper between the card and the metal part and it worked. just wanted to say thanks.
I had the very same problem today after putting a brand new sim in the phone.
Found that I had put the damn sim in the wrong way round. Oops.
I had the exact same problem and in my case, putting a piece of paper in did not help at all. I had to get a brand new sim card.
i had a similar problem. it couldn't read my sim card, but read my gf's tmobile sim card and her phone read my sim card fine. then i next day i took it to an ATT shop, asked for a new sim card and it worked perfectly fine now. even the guy from the shop couldn't tell me what is the problem, he said, it happens every now and then.

"No SIM"?

Tilt was previously working. Now shows "No SIM" on screen when any SIM is inserted.
Any idea what the issue might be?
I am not the current owner of the tilt, nor do I have access to it to test anything, so that is basically everything I know about it.
What is your best guess?
Thanks
is it your phone or is it a phone you got of e-bay.
If of e-bay it may be that yur IMEI is barred.

Ebay.
Well if that is that case great, because my carrier does not ban IMEIs, so it will work perfectly for me.
Is that really the message you would get if your IMEI was dissabled though? That doesn't really make sense, as it would see the SIM and you would see it say: Searching for network... Registering... and then it might say no SIM, but it says no SIM right away, so that can't really be it.
Any other ideas?
this is usualy a bad sim card..
usualy either a worn card.. or possibly an issue on the att side with your sim number
if you frequent any core att stores you might could get a free one..
I stopped bidding for it on eBay, cuz I don't feel like taking the risk.
It sold for $127.50
Sounds silly, i know, but i had the same a while ago, found the sim goes in and locks shut back to front the contact part going in last, just maybe this simple
I had a similar problem with my new Tytn II. Only 3 days old and after I took out and reinserted SIM, I got the "No SIM" message, same problem with another SIM card as well.
Just as I was ready to return the device, after a final test with my SIM card, it decided to work. I have not taken out the SIM since and this problem hasn't shown up.
There have been a couple of threads on this problem.
It would seem that the design of the SIM connector is not all that it should be.
My main SIM sometimes wouldn't connect and another couple of SIMs would not connect at all.
A piece of paper, folded if necessary, inserted between the SIM card and the metal clip to increase the contact pressure has completely fixed the problem on mine, but apparently it has not worked for everyone.

"The Sim Card Is Missing..."

Alright, new to the forums so please bare with me! Here goes:
A little while ago I started getting the "Sim Card Is Missing" error on my Kaiser. I've done many things to remedy the problem and still to no avail, the problem remains. What I'm looking for is any advice or any other ideas that someone might be able to give me on this problem. Here's a list of what I've already done.
-Replaced SIM with a brand new SIM from ATT Dealer.
-Dissassembled phone and cleaned SIM contacts as well as SIM socket connector.
-Soft reset, and soft reset, and soft reset......you get the idea.
-Wedged a piece of paper, then cardboard on top of SIM to make more pressure
-Disabled 3G network, run solo on EDGE/GPRS, as well as used outdated SIM to see if that would solve the problem.
There have been a few other "everything else's" that I've probably tried, but nothing worth mentioning.
All of these different things I've done have all solved the problem for a small amount of time (1 minute-a full day), but the problem keeps coming back. Typically after taking the SIM out and restarting my phone, the phone does work for about 15 minutes, and then ceases to live.
If anyone, anyone at all has any insight or suggestiong, please post back in this thread, your help is much appreiciated. I've already taken the phone to a repair shop and got ripped off $160, so I'm at my last rope here. Thanks all!

the sim card is missing probably the best solution
i have had this problem before on a wizard and a kaiser too what i found out on both phones one bought off ebay and the other i bought 2nd user from the local paper is that one of the phones was reported stolen (not saying that yours is) and that is what comes up when the imei has been switched off the network and the wizard i found out had an imei which had been changed. the solution i found is when i used the wizard service tool to change the imei on the phone with one on an old phone what i had to see iuf that would work, the sim card missing error disappeared and that fixed the problem so i do reckon that has something to do with your problem.
p.s. changed the imei number back to what it was as its sort of illegal to change imei`s lol

The Kaiser (at&t tilt version at least) is notorious for having a loose fitting Sim socket. If your SIM has any age to it the contacts are worn.
Put a piece of tape (or two on the back to thicken it) then reinsert it. If this fixes your problem get a new SIM from your carrier.

[NEED HELP] kaiser lossing signal and can't read simcard

can anybody help me with this problem??
about my english please forgive me, i'm still learning...
thanks guys for your help...
Hey, I can't really help you. But the same has happened to me a few times: every time, it eventually started to work again after some time. Could be a few hours, could be a week - so be patient. I have no idea what the problem is, but at some point it started working again after I put someone else's SIM in my phone then switched back (both SIMs were of the same provider). Good luck!
you are not alone
I have exactly same problem with you.. since 2 days ago my kaiser won't read any sim card.
Actually it had happened a few weeks ago, my kaiser fell from my hands and hit the floor. After that, my kaiser stop reading sim card, but after one night it started to works again just like Cerberus_tm said.
2 days ago it happened again I really careless.. but this time until today, my kaiser still won't recognize any sim card.
I have done some reading in a few old thread about this case. I'm not sure myself but based on those thread, I can conclude that the problem could be because of the sim card doesn't make contact with card holder, or there is a problem with the flex cabble that connecting our sim card holder.
FYI, if you are interested in fixing the flex cabble, the price is about 700.000 IDR here in bandung.

Fixed my sim card no work issue
It was intermittently working so I knew I was close and yes the poor Tytn II 8925 has been dropped about 1/mth thanks to the stupid sprint magnet case that always seems to let go after I get up from a chair. I tried raising the gold contacts that touch my sim card, that did NOT work. I tired putting one layer of masking tape on my sim card, that did NOT work either. I even got a new sim card from my carrier $10, that did NOT work. Finally I tired pushing down on the steel house that holds the sim card, that worked!
Just put a piece of paper on the back of sim card while inserting it into the sim holder, my kaiser suddenly started acting like this, I slid a piece of paper at sim's back and now its working pitch perfect
Sorry Sim card error back (not fixed)
Seems to work after battery removal and 3 restarts, getting ready to dump the phone.... It works for a couple of hours, then all of sudden sim card can't be read....can't live like this.

perhaps by way of radio uprgade you can handle !! You can get more information at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182
perhaps try reinsert the sim module if you are ok to open the device up? or replace the simcard module flex cable
