"The Sim Card Is Missing..." - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Alright, new to the forums so please bare with me! Here goes:
A little while ago I started getting the "Sim Card Is Missing" error on my Kaiser. I've done many things to remedy the problem and still to no avail, the problem remains. What I'm looking for is any advice or any other ideas that someone might be able to give me on this problem. Here's a list of what I've already done.
-Replaced SIM with a brand new SIM from ATT Dealer.
-Dissassembled phone and cleaned SIM contacts as well as SIM socket connector.
-Soft reset, and soft reset, and soft reset......you get the idea.
-Wedged a piece of paper, then cardboard on top of SIM to make more pressure
-Disabled 3G network, run solo on EDGE/GPRS, as well as used outdated SIM to see if that would solve the problem.
There have been a few other "everything else's" that I've probably tried, but nothing worth mentioning.
All of these different things I've done have all solved the problem for a small amount of time (1 minute-a full day), but the problem keeps coming back. Typically after taking the SIM out and restarting my phone, the phone does work for about 15 minutes, and then ceases to live.
If anyone, anyone at all has any insight or suggestiong, please post back in this thread, your help is much appreiciated. I've already taken the phone to a repair shop and got ripped off $160, so I'm at my last rope here. Thanks all!

the sim card is missing probably the best solution
i have had this problem before on a wizard and a kaiser too what i found out on both phones one bought off ebay and the other i bought 2nd user from the local paper is that one of the phones was reported stolen (not saying that yours is) and that is what comes up when the imei has been switched off the network and the wizard i found out had an imei which had been changed. the solution i found is when i used the wizard service tool to change the imei on the phone with one on an old phone what i had to see iuf that would work, the sim card missing error disappeared and that fixed the problem so i do reckon that has something to do with your problem.
p.s. changed the imei number back to what it was as its sort of illegal to change imei`s lol

The Kaiser (at&t tilt version at least) is notorious for having a loose fitting Sim socket. If your SIM has any age to it the contacts are worn.
Put a piece of tape (or two on the back to thicken it) then reinsert it. If this fixes your problem get a new SIM from your carrier.

Missing sim card?

Okey, here is a stange problem!
I purchased a used Tytn II today, and everything seems to work fine! BUT there is a BIG BUT, every time I restart my device it says that the sim card is missing even tough it is in fact in the device, then I have to take the card out reset the device shut it off again and insert the sim card!
Sometime it works and sometimes I have to repeat that procedure several times before it realises that there is a sim card!
Is someone else having this problem, and if yes how do you go around fixing this?
Or is my device simply broke?
Thanks in advance!
I posted this a couple of months ago - works for me
"Happened to me when I got a T-Mobile PAYG SIM last week to trial for data coverage.
Popped SIM in and worked well.
I then tried a Vodafone Sim and that was ok.
When I put the T-Mobile SIM back in - I got the message "no SIM found"
Tried Orange and Vodafone and they both gave the same message !
I was not convinced the SIM'S were making good contact - there seemed too much movement under the flimsy metal crossbar.
The solution to get the T-Mobile and other SIM's working was to insert a small piece of paper on top the SIM as you slide it under the metal crossbar.
This puts a little bit of extra padding on top of the SIM to help make decent contact.
I suppose the paper could be put on top of the crossbar instead to achieve the same effect but have not tried this.

Also make sure the sim is clean - use a pencil eraser is one suggestion.
So far so good!

Okey, I tried to put some paper between and so far it works!
The strange thing is that I did not even try to replace the card, I just rebooted the device and the sim card was missing!
Cant figure that out!
Hi there,
I just wanted to stop in and say thank you! I have been beating my head against the wall for the past two weeks over why my Tilt kept losing its network connections in perfect conditions and constantly telling me the SIM card was missing. Reseating it only worked once in a great while, but slipping a piece of paper in there seems to have done the trick nicely. I did notice that the contacts on the Tilt dig grooves into the SIM card contacts - do you think perhaps this is the problem or is this common among cell phones?
Thanks Bigdish, worked for me too.
thanks a lot for the information, putting a paper on the SIM resolved the issue in my tytn II, I was so nervous when I saw sim not found in my phone and tried to do reset several times and also repeated the ROM upgrade several times and finally a piece of paper served the purpose thanks....

Kaiser Not Recognizing SIM All Of A Sudden

Can't figure out why. It's unlocked and I just took it back to factory settings.
For some reason it just stopped recognizing my SIM. Anything I can try? I would hate to assume it's broken.
Assuming you've searched the forum...
does the sim work on other phones? does another sim work in your kaiser or it doesn't recognize ANY sim?
have you tried cleaning the sim bay? (i dunno whats the recommended way to clean that area or even if cleaning it will make any difference)
and one more time...search this forum...i remember seeing quite a few threads about sims not getting recognized all of a sudden
My SIM works in other phones, but nothing works in this one.
I did search, but only found issues with the phone not reading it after flashing to a cooked ROM, not official ones. It didn't recognize it before or after I flashed to back to factory.
** I saw where apparently tmobile sims require a little more pressure, but that hasn't worked.
I've tried three different SIMS, one on tmo and one on att
So no one else?
similar issue !!
similar issue with gene(HTC 3400i)....
sending it for a replace tomorrow, but i will be thankful if somebody can advise a solution for this issue.
Have a look at this thread for a few ideas:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423724
ideas
try cleaning your sim card with medical alcohol it help in some cases
ask for sim replacement from your network provided (from experience and reading - kiaser is very sensitive to sims)
Someone posted about this last month and his solution solved my problem.
Slide a piece of paper between the top of the SIM card and the top metal clip to push it down harder onto the contacts.
In my case some SIMs would not work, but this has cured it.

"No SIM"?

Tilt was previously working. Now shows "No SIM" on screen when any SIM is inserted.
Any idea what the issue might be?
I am not the current owner of the tilt, nor do I have access to it to test anything, so that is basically everything I know about it.
What is your best guess?
Thanks
is it your phone or is it a phone you got of e-bay.
If of e-bay it may be that yur IMEI is barred.

Ebay.
Well if that is that case great, because my carrier does not ban IMEIs, so it will work perfectly for me.
Is that really the message you would get if your IMEI was dissabled though? That doesn't really make sense, as it would see the SIM and you would see it say: Searching for network... Registering... and then it might say no SIM, but it says no SIM right away, so that can't really be it.
Any other ideas?
this is usualy a bad sim card..
usualy either a worn card.. or possibly an issue on the att side with your sim number
if you frequent any core att stores you might could get a free one..
I stopped bidding for it on eBay, cuz I don't feel like taking the risk.
It sold for $127.50
Sounds silly, i know, but i had the same a while ago, found the sim goes in and locks shut back to front the contact part going in last, just maybe this simple
I had a similar problem with my new Tytn II. Only 3 days old and after I took out and reinserted SIM, I got the "No SIM" message, same problem with another SIM card as well.
Just as I was ready to return the device, after a final test with my SIM card, it decided to work. I have not taken out the SIM since and this problem hasn't shown up.
There have been a couple of threads on this problem.
It would seem that the design of the SIM connector is not all that it should be.
My main SIM sometimes wouldn't connect and another couple of SIMs would not connect at all.
A piece of paper, folded if necessary, inserted between the SIM card and the metal clip to increase the contact pressure has completely fixed the problem on mine, but apparently it has not worked for everyone.

Sim not recognized on my tilt

Hi there!
Lately i got into this problem:my tytn intermittently recognizes my sim.In fact i tried several times to soft reset but got the same problem. The sim is not detected by my pda, tytn ii.
What should i go for?I looked up for some similar posts in this forum.I tried with the detailed solutions but nothing.I tried to put some layers of adesive tape but i can't get it working.I also cleaned the sim and the location where the sim is placed. No way.And yes i forgot to say that i used the same sim with other phones and work perfectly. What should i do?My pda is out of warranty so i'd rather find a more economic solution thanks.Ciao!
Anyone? Please need help!!!!
I tried reflashing another ROM but i still get the same problem.I remember that before it completely stopped working i could send an sms and then after a few seconds the connection automatically deactivated and when i tried to put it back on the commanager menu i got the message "no sim".
So i wondered if that was due to some software problems. That's why i tried to flash a new ROM.But nothing.Got the same error. What's that? How can i fix it?Pleaaaaseee
hello
If putting some layers on the sim card holder doesn't work, most likely there is a problem with flex cable that connecting sim card holder.
So, I guess the only (but not so economic) solution is you have to fix the flex cable.
I also had this issue few months ago, my kaiser was unable to read any sim card. After fixing the flex cable, my kaiser back in action
well, I spent 700.000 IDR to fix it, but I think its worth.
Hi.First of all thanks for your reply.Anyway i looked on google and i found that the 700.000 you spent to fix the pda are around 0.0777 US DOLLARS.is that possible?Isn't that really CHEAP?Is that around the real price you spent in Indonesia?thank you very much.Ciao!
oh, sorry,, in my country we use . to separate 1 and 0 in one thousand (1.000) its not a sign for decimals.
So it is 700000 IDR, around 77 USD hehe..
Hey! ahah yes it seemed really cheap.Incredibly.So yes here in italy maybe around 50-60 euros.I'll take my pda to some expert.See how much it will cost to repair it.Anyone who had the same problem andfixed it in another way?by hisself?Thank you.bye
Hey guys.I took it to the shop.In a few days they tell me what is about.Meanwhile is there anyone who fixed this problem in an alternative way?thanks dudes.Ciao!

[Q] HD7 SIM Card Error

I've flipped through other SIM card error threads here on the HD7 forum and found not many had a good turn out.
I dropped my HD7 in water and luckily this was the only "damage" it suffered. But it is beyond me how the problems still persists, I've replaced nearly EVERYTHING inside the damn phone and I STILL have the error.
SIM/SD card tray, Main logic board, motherboard, you name it I've gotten a replacement for it and the POS is still reading SIM card error. Attempted different SIM cards from friends and nothing.
I think the ONLY strike of a light I ever had was when I replace the SIM/SD card tray and I actually had bars for a little bit, and then just dorpped to the error again and bars never came back no matter how many times I restarted the phone.
The only thing Im suspecting now is the cellular antennas in the back housing just not making good contact/sending out any signals. I tried making the contact better by adding a bit of solder to the contacts but no avail. Got a new housing coming in.
Wondering if anyone had any othe ideas or has any suggestions
