I am interested in a netbook up to 10 or maybe 12 inches size and in price under 600$$ !!!
these two models are both the same in specs except Acer has more usb ports- both Atom 280 & 1gb ram
Im interested in your opinion on these two (which is the best- looks dont mather much & I know how good they look) or maybe suggets another netbook with Nvidia ION or Atom N280 cpu and under 600$!!
EDIT: Im also very interested in Nvidia Ion Netbooks up to 12inches -- when will it be avaiable to customers??
i have an asus eee 701 and a 1000h after useing both of them my recommendation is
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Vaio-VGN-T...ptop?hash=item3354d69103&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
older sony vaio such as the one above
I'm also a big fan of the Sony Vaio's...

There is talk about a S5 with a slide-out keyboard!!!
Yeah,
vliv great models!!
I´ll go for one soon!
@ orlesi, where you heard about S5 with slideout kb?
---------------------------
Respect OP modesl, I would go for Asus, I don´t really trust in Acer, seems poor quality for me, no ofense.
Asus 701 4G users have been using since the day of launch "XP Pro SP3 2GB DDR2 OC 900MHz" My PC uses Asus Mobo etc, so i'd go for Asus
Right now Im leaning more towards Asus eee pc 1008HA -- it can be upgraded but its harder than on other models(you have to take apart all the netbook) but its more stylish and faster than acer or a lot of other netbooks...
BTW-- does anyone know when a netbook with Nvidia Ion can be bought (like Lenovo S12 or anything else)

the screen is way too small and even with the 800x600 hacked screen driver there is still not enough space to really make it useful. but the good thing about the 701 is you can get one for cheap now.

Yep i wasn't recommending the 701 just the brand lol
Was a purchase when UMPC's became more affordable and if the larger screen sizes where available when purchased would have gone for another Asus model.

There was a post in a UMPC forum with several people claiming it + jkk said that there is a (possible) slide-out keyboard device from viliv coming up, so things start to add up.

i had a raon everrun and i loved it. other than it was too small and too big. too small to be useful and too big to be really portable like a phone plus it did not make phone calls. i miss it. but yeah it was expensive.
netbooks sucks...
1Ghz atom? mutta! just for the easiest and lightweight laptop... nop i dislike them then no drives Plus the drive... na ha, you will get seriously frustrated when you begun to get bored or out of batt at 2:30 of heavy usage...
Believe me... Oh if you dont believe dont buy acer aspire one... the bat is worst than toshiba and asus.

I know how its with the atom -- I am currently using a old Dell Latitude D600 with 512RAM and 1.4ghz pentium M processor -- trust me its slow -- with win7 the D600 is faster than with XP and mostly because of the Ram ... battery- well I can use a Laptop for a lot of hours with no charge (of course if possible) for instance D600 hold about 30 - 40 mins when on max performance(no wifi and brighness on max) but with min performance(600mhz) about an hour ( but unusable because of cpu speed)
So Im not worried about performance cuz I have the patience and the netbook will be as a power saving computer which I use when I dont need the power of my Desktop PC (3.5 ghz C2D, 4gb Ram, 8800GTS 640mb, Asus Striker II Formula), which is a power hungry beast -300MWh a month(if get the mwh correctly
I Have about 600$ to spend on a good laptop, I have bought an hp mini which stopped working on me and a toshiba laptop that also stopped working so im starting to get a little mad can anyone give me some good names? I would like it to be pretty fast, have a cd drive, and have windows 7. Thanks

I'm very happy with my Sony Vaio VGN!
Asus Asus Asus Asus!
Best customer support ever (from other workmates) and they're pretty cheap for what they've got. Most of them pack great graphics card under 800$.
I'm thinking hard but not sure what to do.
Someone at work wants to buy my old Dell XPS M140. I've upgraded the original 1.83Ghz processor with 2GB DDR2 RAM and Windows 7. They have offered $400 US.
I always said that I wanted to wait to get rid of that (or replace it without selling it) when there was a decent netvertible or tablet PC out there. Right now, I can't find anything to replace it!!!
I've looked at reviews of the Viliv S10 Blade, Eee PC T101MT, and Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T, all with bad hardware or slower performance. I definitely will not be buying anything that's slower than my current laptop. I take very good care of my PCs so it runs nice.
I discovered the HP Touchsmart TM2T today, which looked nice in the beginning, but in order for that to last me 3-5 years, I'd have to upgrade the processor and available RAM making it over $1000 US.
Talking about an upgrade just gets me excited but I don't want to make an irrational decision. Nowadays, I only use my laptop for travel but it's a must have (going to Boston in 2 weeks). My fiancee has a laptop, but I do have a touch of the "I want to drive" attitude when it comes to tech stuff.
This all in the same week that I'll probably be purchasing a Canon 500D DSLR camera. HMMMMM..... I don't like to blow money on my tech purchases. I feel I really need to get my money's worth in use. Notice that my XPS M140 was released and purchased in 2005.
Any advice?
Well, if you can't find anything that you like and waiting isn't a possibility I wouldn't sell. But, this oportunity may not come again? I'd suggest doing what you feel would be the most logical for your situation. If it were me, I would sell it and wait, but that may not be an option if you really need something before you can sell.
Sell it and get an ipad man srsly
AND WHY IS IT THAT I CANNOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS ANYMORE WTF
Please, no Apple products. I'm not slow with technology so I don't need things dumbed down.
I might go ahead and sell. Really, where am I going to get $400 for a 5 year old laptop anywhere? I think that's half off the original price. HOOGA!
Exactly. I would sell it to. Good luck!
"HP Touchsmart TM2T"
I would be careful getting that
it's in the same line of hp combi tablets which overheat and die in huge numbers and hp
fight to avoid any sort of rma
mine which is an older generation tx1270 only works now and then because it gets too hot and both the wifi chip and gpu loose connection with the pcb
overheating it for a while makes it come back to life but only for soo long
also it gets too hot to use as a tablet and makes too much noise
of cause the tm2t don't got the culpit nvidia 6250 which hp's poor cooling design caused the issue but would still not trust hp
Don't get the HP. I have had 3 HP tablets (1000, 1100, and the touchsmart - upgraded all to 2G of memory). As the poster above me stated the touchsmart gets very hot and eventually ine died while the 2 older slate-types are both running strong. I love my tablets but the touchsmart is not a good buy.
Look around for something better. I also have a netbook and while it won't run my Access databases it runs most everything else just fine. It's over a year old Samsung and I put an additional gig of memory. All in all ran me just over $300 from Amazon (including the $25 for the extra memory).
Depends on what you need from a PC. I find that my netbook does everything my touchsmart did and just about as fast.

Ugh, that's such a shame.
I guess there really isn't anything I want right now. I want a multitouch tablet because I want to be there when the multitouch revolution turns, but there is absolutely nothing good in that market for a reasonable price. The Fujistu's are just way too expensive.
UGH, this pisses me off.
Did not make me happy either since it was 3 months after warranty expired. Too expensive to fix. Since I had had so much good luck with the previous models I was pretty unhappy at the quality. It was a nice PC. Oh well....
I'm waiting on a new slate too and was waiting for HP to put out their new one running Win7. But I'm reading that they pulled the plug. We'll see. I would spring for it even after the touchsmart thing. I want one that runs a full Windows OS (not an IPad or some such). Perhaps later this fall something will come out.
Good luck on your hunt.
Not saying the Ipad is bad but I want a full OS. I have some apps I need to load and Ipad won't handle them. So it doesn't meet my needs. Since I own a bunch of Apple stock I am glad that it meets a lot of other's needs. Just doesn't cut it for me.
Yeah, I'd like a full OS, too. One without boundaries and rules.
it looks like the HP Touchsmart Tm2 is coming out with i3 and i5 versions this summer. I'm in line...

the only reason i wouldnt go there is lack of usb ports (and need for about 40 different adapters to obtain usb) and no flash.

Because consumers will still buy the iPad, and the next gen is probably going to have USB ports.

I just wanted a Macbook to develop on, play games, and watch movies, and I had to have the 1980x1200 resolution or it would of been pointless to get. I wanted the max the device out so that I wouldnt have to worry about not having the hardware needed to do whatever I needed to do.

The MB pros are sweet machines. They're solid and well-engineered, and will generally last longer than the cheaper windows laptops which makes them worth the extra money in my opinion.

HP Dv8350us.. until the hard drive died and I didn't bother to order another one because it used IDE connectors.. Too ancient.
I don't recall the model #, but it was a Dell with a 15" screen and only a 40GB HD. Every Dell that I've ever had, came with defective/finicky DVD drives. HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba didn't have this problem (at least as has been my own personal experience).
Siemens-Nixdorf (something) 485sx 33MHz, 120MB HDD, no sound card
Got it as my first PC for studies in 1994, It was on sale, as newer and better laptops was...
The Nix-sie replaced my beloved Amiga 500, (Yes I kept using a comp that had been presented ten years earlier).
Back to the Nix-sie. It had a Dual-scan 11.6 screen and after a few year the line was clearly visible+several dead pixels. The 120MB HDD seemed like something that a normal user never could fill up.
Got myself CD-ROM connected to the printerport?. Upgraded the RAM from 4MB to enormous 12MB. Had a 9-pin printer with it. running the DOS6.22 and Win3.11(for workgroups?)
In 1999 the Nix-sie died, the screen was a joke and the Ni-Cad battery dead since years back.
Replaced Nix-sie with a Cyrix Desktop, win95 with a soundcard and obsolete...

My first is the one I'm one a Compaq (CQ50).
I dont remember the model number but it was some cheap Toshiba from walmart. Since then it has been a compaq,hp (crashed in less than 6 hours after it ran windows update), dell inspiron 15r(hard drive crashed after 4 months), now Im back to a toashiba satellite.
It was Acer Aspire 3985 with 30GB HDD, 512MB RAM and 1.6GHz processor. It was built-in with 14.1" screen. Now I have higher clocks on my phone..
