Help with start menu...so lost - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello I recently bought a Htc tilt, and it came modified with dutty's dual touch, I decided to upgrade to Dutty's Official WM6.1 5.2.19400 Release today, everything went through fine with doing the upgrade, however, when I press the windows start menu and want to click on programs and scroll through the list the only way for me to view the programs is to go through file explorer, which is extremely annoying. I have tried to surf around and read on any way to fix this but have had no luck, if anyone can help me I would truly appreciate it. Actually I also can not use quickgps anymore.
Thanks

Flash back to the OEM ROM and start over.

Sorry but where do i get this OEM rom, and how will I know that it is the right one to flash with?
Thanks for the reply btw

All of your answers can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282 click on shipped ROMs Wiki....

Thanks so much I really appreciate your help. One last question, after I revert back to the oem rom, will it relock my phone?

go back to OEM and then use Hard-Spl again , reflash new ROM again. (example: dutties, etc)

I have tried to use an oem rom, then flashed with Hardspl, and then flashed with new rom, and still no luck. I tried a few times, and still no luck. I am not sure what to do...
Thanks again for the help.

whoa......flashing a whole new rom just to fix this issue?
the reason you are browsing through your programs through a "file explorer" as you say, is because that's how wm works. if you dont want to do that, then get an application that adds a cascading start menu, like quickmenu or wisbar lite

I really appreciate the help, I really hope this will solve my issue. Just so that I can be clear does cascading start menu refer to when you press the windows key, scroll down to programs or my documents and basically a list pop's up and allows you to scroll through the list of whatever is in the the respective folder? I wish I knew how to explain this better. Again thanks to everyone for the help.

If you're trying to have a menu like Windows classic menu like so:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then you could use QuickMenu.

As requested... here it is.

Just pull down the zip file and it should have an RUU in it. you run that and it will flash these onto your phone. Your OS and apps will not be affected since its a Splash only update. The 3rd screen will be in a CAB (or its a png you just copy to the WIndows directory, I haven't looked to see how he set it up).
Just like mfrazzz said, and the third screen is a cab file, just install it like you would a program.

Hey guys got the second part to work flawlessly...followed the instructions but couldn't get the RUU to work I keep getting an error 222 that it couldn't verify the connection to my phone.
I have an HTC tilt with SPB Mobile Shell.
Any help or ideas?
Hi there,
i am also having the same issue i get an error 222 device not responding, i have an htc titan.
Any ideas?
I have an htc titan, and am having the same issue,
I get the device error 222 any ideas?
Thx It looks very cool
Newbie question here:
How can I extract the pics to edit them and then recombine them.
Do I need a cab unpacker?
I'm also having the error when trying to run the included RUU to install these. I wonder if it may have to do with whether one's phone is unlocked or not? I installed WM6.5 using SoftSPL so didn't have to unlock my T-Mobile MDA. I wonder if there's a way to install these awesome gradient splash images using SoftSPL?

warning... i had this problem after installing the last rom available in americas.htc.com ....
after doing that, everything works fine but this.
Trying to fix that, i already did several things:
- run a clear storage, 1234, yes, fresh reload with no cingular midlets. same problem
- run another clear storage, 1234, yes, fresh reload with cingular midlets. same problem
- called htc and they told me that this is why they dont suggest to upgrade if you dont absolute need too.... so it doesnt fix my problem.
- i reinstalled the same rom, same problem after that.
ideas? im reloading my information right now... maybe installing another rom?
so far, the only thing not working is install midlets in my device. all other things that i install in top of that work just fine. tcmp, pie, htc home, etc...
Ok, for some strange reason, if i copy the jar,jad files (the midlet) to the storage card and install it from local , instead that clicking on the web, it works. so... i will consider it solved for now. not exactly the solution that i wanted to find, but a solution neverless.
read the MIDlet bible and, particularly, my latest OM 4.1 review (both in the General forum); in there, I've explained this all.

Help please

Have a Tytn II that I recently upgraded to 6.1 via the Orange ROM & it worked well.
Decided to install a HTC home plugin & since then it just starts & then switches off & starts again. Every now & again it pauses after starting but is totally unresponsive & then restarts.
I have trawled this site & tried soft, hard & every other reset but nothing helps. Before I chuck it through the window can you help??
Can't believe it is dead meat but please don't ask me to do anything involving menus as I cannot do that.
Can you help?
Reflash the ROM. Can you go into bootloader?
Cannot do anything other than watch it start & then restart!

OK, try this:
1. To go into bootloader (to flash a different ROM):
a. Press and hold camera button all the way and push stylus into reset hole until you see a tri-color screen2. To hard-reset (restore ROM back to default settings/programs):
b. Press and hold two soft keys, one to the right of green send key and the other to the left of red end key, while pushing stylus into hole. You should see a white screen with blue text asking you if you want to delete all personal data. Press Send Key, wait for it to restore, then press send key again to reboot
can you do either one of these?
bootloader
Thanks mbarvian
Now got tri-colour screen & the phone is not starting & restarting. In addition I have saved to my desktop the ROM I want to install.
Please excuse my lack of knowledge but what do I do now!!
Thank you
mbarvian
As soon as I asked you about what to do with my tri-colour screen & posted the question I remembered that it is governed by the computer. ROM now reloaded & phone is no longer a paperweight!!
Thank you very much & I am sorry for posting this thread twice. I thought (in my panic) I had lost the first post so did it again.
Again Cheers

You open the ROM and run the KaiserUpdatre Utility. And Go through those steps.
Flashing a ROM is covered extensively in the Kaiser FAQ Wiki, link in my signature. Browse through there and see if you can get answers to you questions and help Flashing if you need it.
Also, Give us a little more descriptive title next time. Will help people know what the question is most people pass over "Please Help" generic titles.
Jimmy McGee
I humbly apologise & will be more specific in the future.
Thankfully, my post was not overlooked by someone intent on helping me & my phone is restored to it's former glory.
Whilst I understand that these things are second nature to you can I ask that you cut some slack to people who are at their wits end & need help from experts as they think they have ruined their phone.
Sorry again & my titles will be better in the future - promise.
No worries. I'm not trying to belittle you, just trying to help you to best get the information you need so you can become as cool as me!

[Q] Bought a new Vibrant with custom ROM

Hey there - I just bought my wife a used Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (I9000M) and it came with a custom rom / cwm recovery already installed - now I'd keep it as it seems to work ok, but since it's for my Wife, I'd rather just return it to stock as she doesn't need all the custom rom enhancements I don't think.
What i'd like to do is return it to a stock Samsung ROM - or at least something really close to stock. (Something that has all the stock Samsung apps maybe?) I'm not familiar at all with the rom that's on there so it may be the best one available, I have no idea. This is my Wife's first Android phone and I'd rather not turn her off of it because of some custom roms issues.
My problem is that I'm not sure how to go back. I've read a bunch of articles on here and I just got confused since there are so many different modems and regions, or whatever. I'm not a total noob with custom roms, I've put dozens on my Dell Streak, but the Samsung seems to be a bit more complicated (to me at least). If someone could help me by listing the steps required to go back to stock or if they can recommend an optimized stock rom, something like that, I'd really appreciate it.
Here's what I have on there now...

and there you have to pick the file with UGJL2 firmware, download, doubleclick to extract it and then just follow the instructions in the thread fireburn postet.have fun
I run doc 9.9.5 myself, JS8 2.2.1 is a better ROM than JL2 2.2 and the speedmod kernel is also better than stock...but whatever.
I have all the Samsung stock apps on mine (not the Bell ones, don't really need them unless you pay a ton for mobile TV), but whoever cooked that one up might have left them off.
Thanks a lot folks! I might just look at possibly cooking another rom that has all the standard apps in it.
I did notice something that doesn't work in my current ROM, when I connect the USB cable, the option to mount the sd memory as a mass storage device isn't available. Does anyone else have that issue (or have you seen it before)? Do you think cooking a new ROM up in the kitchen would resolve that or do I have to go back to stock for that feature?
Thanks,
Steve
Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB settings
Don't know what setting it could be on now but change it to 'mass storage'

Little brother messed up his phone... and I'm too dumb to fix.

Hello new friends.
My little brother and his inventive mind were messing around with his phone and this started to show up:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(btw, I tried what it says on the screen.. did nothing.. also trying to flash a new rom did nothing)
I know little about Motorola phones and rooting in general... all i can do is "root" samsung with silly Odin software (easymode right?)
I gave the phone to a friend and after some examination he said that somehow my little brother managed to "delete and/or corrupt" the phones main partition. whatever that means... He was unable to do a hard reset because at some point the phone said there was a problem with one of the partitions.
Now.. while I dont know much about android and motorola, im great following directions.
is there a humanly possible way to fix this?
I can get to this menu below, but everything I touch goes back to bootloader message:
Additional info with numbers mumblejumble:
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

as I understand it this is only the bootloader unlocked, the phone works regularly only that at the time the alert you. There are two ways to avoid this annoying message:
1 relock the bootloader
2 use an alternative screen that hides the annoying warning.
before re-locking take a deep DELETE and uses a script to reload a ROM from scratch
Find it all on xda !!!! look!
