Hi, There is plenty in the Alpine sections about upgrading to the various ROM sections, just have a look or search. You will find the files here, ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Alpine/
You can see what PUG ROM version I use, which I have found to be very good.
Sometime ago I uploaded all the cab files for your Carrier Settings, just copy cab to XDA IIi and tap to run, after the cab has installed the settings, it will delete itself, so make sure you keep a copy for future use.

The latest PUG upgrade is here, ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Alpine/O2_Roms__Camera_Fixed_Pug
There are 2 files here, one has all the unneccessary 02 software outstripped and the other with all the 02 software included.
Once downloaded, extract to a folder on your desktop (or anywhere on your PC). Make sure your PDA is connected via the cradle and Activesync. Goto the folder you have extracted the files to on your PC, click to run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, just click OK, then you should see a message saying it is checking your Device, your devices screen should go blank (Although you will see some dark text including the word Serial on your PDA)
You should then get a screen saying what ROM version you have and the New version, press ok then a screen will pop up saying checking device, the common thing to happen here is it will stop in this screen, what 5 mins if it doesn't change then don't touch your PDA, CTRL-Alt-DEL on your PC keyboard to bring up Task Manager, select the Process Tab and look for the file name MaUpgradeUt_noID, highlight it with one click and then press End Process button, go back to the folder and run MaUpgradeUt_noID again follow the screen instructions again and then it will update this time, indicated by a install bar screen, it will take about 20mins to complete.
Once updated remove your PDA from its cradle and hold the Power Button down and at the same time press the softreset hole with your Stylus, this will Hard Reset (Factory Settings) your device, depending on the version you have installed follow instructions on the PDA, it will install some more files which take 5 to 10 mins to install. Thats it you device is now updated.
For your carrier settings goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26463, there you will find the CAB files for your Phone Carrier (remember there is a file for PAYT and Contract for each Carrier, download the correct one for you), download the correct one for you and copy to your PDA, tap to run and your correct MMS/GPRS/WAP settings are then installed. Very Happy
**Please Note before you update your PDA. Please copy anything you want to keep on your PDA to your PC, don't worry about SD storage or the other Perminent Storage area as the update leaves these untouched. If you want to save your Contacts and or your Appointments and Tasks then goto Settings on your PDA select second Tab and then select Perminent Save, tick your selection and tap OK, then once you have carried out the update go back to Perminant Save and tick boxes you want restored and then tap OK, this function will dynamically keep your backup upto date, so you can use this anytime.
Phew, hope this helps.
I have tried all teh CAB files, and all the individual settings, to get full GPRS working on my O2 PAYT SIM.
After 2 emails to o2's technical department (which at least they answered within 24 hours) I was assured that the reason I couldnt connect is the APN whould be set to mobile.o2.co.uk - but that ONLY worked on contract plans.
They categorically stated that PAYT O2 ONLY features WAP GPRS, i.e. those small WAP-sites suited to mobile phones, and not the 'full deal' (ie web browsing, irc, MSN MEssenger etc)
...so, after a LONG time with O2 PAYT, I am now a Vodafone customer with a Vodafone PAYT SIM!
I can surf the web, join my irc channels, use MSN Messenger, the works, and they emailled me the correct settings the very same day I emailled them to ask for them too.
Joe Pinball
now a happy Vodafone GPRS internet user!
Hi,
just got an 2nd hand xda IIi earlier on today and seem somewhat shafted as i only have macs and no pcs, been looking arround for the last few hours to find some form of sync software which doesnt cost
can anyone tell me how to update the rom from a mac?
cheers
Ok,
so im guessing from spending hours searching the forums here last night unless im willing to buy pocketmac or missing sync there is nothing.
think i will use a virtual pc *sigh*
roll on the x86 mac hardware.
Mac OS is based on BSD. I believe there are scripts floating around here in perl that any decent *nix flavour should run. Perhaps some of these might be able to help you.
if you can run a Virtual PC with access to USB ports on the Mac, I'd reckon that would be the easiest (!) approach to adding Activesync for syncing files etc & installing any applications, as all of the pocket PC apps' installers are also windows-based.
Joe
had a long look for perl stuff and didnt find much so got virtual pc installed now. just got pugs rom on the xda and the speed has incresed (it doesn't feel as slugish anymore) wifi signal is a lot better, but i still seem to have BT issues, wonder if thats something to do with my headset though.. sounds like bad reception sometimes even though the phone is only in my coat pocket.
Hi guys,
I would like you all to take a look at the program Ultimate Theft Alert v3 (http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs-2.html).
This program is an anti-theft program for your WM5 Device.
I was one of the 1st users of it and since then it made much improvement and has some real cool feautures (the developer is someone that actually listens to his customers!).
When a new (unregistred in the program) SIM Card is entered in your device the program sends 2 Text Messages to a predifined number (you can add more numbers). One text message has a predifined message (that you can adjust in the program) and the 2nd text message sends the IMSI number of the SIM Card to your device.
The program has 2 extra plug-ins for now:
1) Doing a hard-reset after inserting a non-registred SIM Card
2) Copy all the SIM Cards contacts to the predifined number(s)
This program is in my opinion the most perfect anti theft alert for your device!!
Just check it out....
Regards,
Molski
p.s. UTA v3 only costs $12,99 ....in my opinion very cheap for a $400 device
Damm - Wish I'd seen this a week or two ago!
This sucks.
My phone was stolen 2 days ago by some loser, and all my data, hacks, tweaks, and software on it has to be reinstalled (of course) . What really P's me off though, is that I have no clue who took it, and I'd really like to be able to get back at the jerk for stealing it. Sigh. Well, I have my new replacement (Cingular shipped it FedEx yesterday and it arrived today), so I have to get busy w/ it and getting it set up. Thankfully, it is a G3, like my old phone.

Then you sure can imagine how important software like this can be!
I'm glad you got a replacement Wizard (and also am glad because it's a G3 ).
I like UTA a lot and build my own cab for it and included it in my ExtRom, so after a hard-reset it's installed automatically

i have ultimate protect on my phone. and i like. its pretty good.

How did it get stolen? If you don't mind me asking?
Im curious... What would you be able to do with the information from the program in the event that your PDA is stolen??? What are the chances of getting it back???
Revenge?
If the program uses the new SIM to send SMS to a number you specified, and passes any phone numbers held in that SIM as part of the mesage content, then you have the phone number of the thief and all his contacts!
You could call him up and ask for your phone back.
You could call all his contacts and ask them to persuade him to give your phone back.
You also get the IMSI number of the SIM card. This is what network operators use to block stolen phones. You may be able to persuade the operator to block the thief's SIM.
Few problems I noticed
1) I can't delete a SIM card Number from the list.
2) Except for the Hard Reset Option under EXTRAS, everything else is greyed out including "Send SIM Contacts and CALL LOG Details"
3) I know how to add this to the Ext. ROM but do I add the UTA.exe file under Windows to it or the Installation CAB. Also where is the DATA file located, the one that holds the SIM card entries and the Alert SMS Numbers?
this program has an option for you to install into ext rom?
cuz it states it can survive a hard reset.
thanks!
Guys, how do you add it to the EXT rom? please assist.
on WM6 (schaps 3.30c german) UTA 3 pops up an error when inserting an unregistered simcard. "systemeigene ausnahme...." somekind of exception error. The sms is beeing sent - but the thief would see the errormessage.
Any suggestions?
Uninstalling
To all the techies,
Could anyone please let me know how to uninstall the ultimate theft alert as i want to format my storage card. If I format it will there be any stray files left on my device memory and if yes then could it confict with the phone.
Thanks
TK
that is an amazing idea i will be checking it out that seems very smart and im willing to bet with my silly brain i will misplace my wizard for sure haha

Good morning, I've found this tutorial on their forum:
"Extended ROM Installation [v35!]
If you would like to know what's Extended ROM, read my article here.
Please note that Extended ROM installation is not possible on all devices. Different devices use a different Autorun Method. Autorun is sometimes a small application that tells the device what softwares need to be installed in what order automatically after a hard-reset. Some have a feature of copying files whereas the others stimulate cab files to be installed.
Before you proceed, its advised to know what are the files and in what locations should they be for the software to work.
In Windows folder:
UTAv35.exe - Core Module
Tapilib.dll - Resource Library File
Uta_confige.dll - Configurations File
Rdui.dat - Registration File
VbLocation.dll - Resource Library File
Uta_adn2.0.exe - Core Add-on Module
In Windows/StartUp folder:
UTAv35.lnk - Shortcut to core module
The above files when in place, the software will work as registered/activated and with configurations! Depending upon your device, you need to make these files available in place, either via custom cab file created with third-party softwares such as WinCE Cab Manager or via Direct Copy file method from Extended ROM after Unlocking it!
In some devices, the stupid signing security warning appears, preventing to start the application directly. In that case, additionally you need install this file http://www.PocketPC-Live.com/ds.cab Through Extended ROM installation in the first place.
Good news for forum users: If you have your posts count over 50, we shall help you make the custom cab file ourselves Happy participating... Even if your post count is below 50, don't worry, we will always try helping you with your queries here. Just reply to this topic and we shall be glad to assist you further.

I have looked and looked and i cant seem to find any information pertaining to my issue. I have a stock tilt with the HTC Home plugin, HTC Album, Kaiser Tweak, Shogunmark wm6 threader, and Arcsoft MMS enable and composer.
Now on to the problem. I will be texting through the shogunmark program or just messing around on the phone, nothing specific, and i will get a little box that says out of memory: please close some windows and try again. When i look in the AT&T task manager all it says is open is the messaging program and activesync (even though it is not hooked to my computer at all).
Any ideas or suggestions or ways to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked your device memory? It could possibly be quite low because you’ve installed far too many applications on your device memory, and not on your storage card (if you even have a storage card?)
Sometimes, temporary/unnecessary files end up installed and duplicated on your device memory. If you don’t need them, delete them. Applications like SKtools can also help you free up much needed space by deleting unnecessary files.
Is there a specific place to obtain SKTools? I searched and all i saw was someone else mentioning it, not a link or anything.
your problem is with the SMS threader you have. I'd love to search for you but I havent got the time right now. I personally posted a fix in another thread and I have seen the fix in other threads as well. It's out there, go get it.
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html Even without the programme, click on ‘start’ then ‘settings’ then ‘system’ and then ‘memory’. You’ll be able to see both your storage and program memory.
To give you an idea, my storage memory is 92.75MB and my programme memory is 61.65 MB. If you’re memory is very low, then this could be the programme. This can be easily fixed by clicking on ‘file explorer’ then ‘my device’ and sifting through your programmes and deleting any uneeded programmes.
SK tools is meant to be pretty good as well, but it costs about $17. I’ve always deleted uneeded programmes manually by myself too.
But it looks like Grizzley has suggested a likely problem with your SMS. Maybe this could be the problem too...?
I just flashed my Kaiser to Dutty and as a result it's wiped my Onenote Mobile notes (no great surprise there).
Before I flashed, I took a Sprite Backup. Does anyone know where the actual "notes" live? Is in a directory or registry entry somewhere? I'd like to restore them if possible. I have searched XDA Devs, but there's nothing I can see explaining this.
Thanks in advance...
\Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile.
I've been looking for a way to move them to another folder but I cannot find it.
Ta,
Dave
Thank You!
Thanks very much for this solution. I copied from the backup and I can see all my notes again.
You just saved me a lot of frustration
I love this forum. Every time I have some obscure question, someone has already asked it and, usually, someone else has answered it perfectly!
Thank you!

Amazing, I was asking myself this same question this afternoon on the way to school. You guys are amazing!
Thank you! Been flashing new ROMs and needed to back up my notes... this forum rocks!
one note 2010
dear all
one notes stores in local device memory instead of storage card. any solution to store the one notes 2010 files in storage cards. Please help me
just navigate to \Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile... highlight the "OneNote Mobile" folder, select menu edit, copy...then navigate to your storage card...place it anywhere you want it by hitting menu, edit, paste. Now they will be on your storage card for future retrival

But how to make OneNote store to SD?
Haven't figured that out yet either...still working
I think it's Pocket Mechanic that has the option to move applications to run from storage card...I've successfully moved most everything I've tried with it. Has anyone tried 'moving' folder to storage card with this app? I'm not sure how it works...if it leaves a shortcut behind pointing to new location on card maybe? I use OneNote for work, and can't afford to screw it up and have down time trying to fix, so wondering if anyone has tried that route yet?
UPDATE: Tried above method, and it did not work. Has anyone else found a feasible way to do this yet? With it storing audio recordings in .wav format, it's basically not usable without being able to store to storage card. I run out of memory in less than one minute.
The frustration continues
Hi everybody,
I have been grappling with this damned issue with OneNote 2007 on my HD2 forever. It’d be nice if some of the top dogs here at the XDA took a minute or two out of their busy schedules to fix us up with a way to force OneNote to SD card. I mean come on people, don’t you leave us at the mercy of windows unpredictable array of hangs, crashes and total system annihilations, give us a way out.
I have personally wormed around the registry and found a way for that whole attachment thing JVolger. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>OneNote Mobile>12.0.
Once there edit the attachments String value with your favorite registry editor and change the string entry with the address of the folder where you like one note to save your attachments.
Now if someone could figure out a way to force one note to save to the SD entirely, I would be one happy man!!
I have searched for this extensively, but i can' seem to find anything about this subject. It could be my searching skills, or I might not know what I'm looking for, but sorry if this has been answered!
I have installed touchflo 2d, a few free programs, and i dont do much messaging, about 500-1000 a month range. But every once in a while i experience a message saying "you're device is running critically low on memory" so i deleted a few programs i dont use anymore, and everything was fine.
I have been keeping my eye on it, and it seems my storage space is decreasing slowly by the hour. It decreases by about 1 mb every 2 days. i have searched through the file explorer, and i have NO idea where my storage is going.
Thank you in advance
O and ive had my kaiser for about a year, and before the touchflo 2d i never had any problem such as this.

What ROm are you using and what other third party apps have you installed...try temp clear to clean everything up also...
i honestly don't know what ROM I'm using, how do i find out?
third part apps are:
Amaze - never used
g-alarm
opera 9.5
palringo
skyfire
s2u
pocket CM contacts
and google maps, but that came with touchflo
what type of messaging do you do?
Are you sending and receiving 500-1000 text messages a month or are you sending and receiving more like 5000 text messages a month? What kind of messages are you receiving? Pictures? How about email? Are you saving every email you receive to your Tilt? Attachments too? If you have multiple email accounts with a lot of attachments and multimedia text message often, these can eat up memory space faster than you would think.
I don't know what's your problem but using dirmap, you should easily be able to fix it.
Dirmap scans your memory and gives you for every directory the amout of memory used.
You can do a search on google or find it here : http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/fr/index.php?soft=1414
Good luck.
Thomas
I was having a similar problem and finally realized that i hadent been clearing my opera cache. After doing this I freed up almost half of my phones memory.
hope that helps
Clear all your temp files and browser history. That's the hidden storage space that a lot of people forget to clean up. Also try and move any number of files, videos, photos from your phone onto your storage card. This should free up some valuable space. Check to see how much of your phone memory is free right now.

Make sure you empty your deleted emails. Are you using the latest version of viigo? I've found a problem with it on my Tilt. Every time I use it my storage memory usage increases. Uninstalling it brings memory back to normal.

when ur reading your emails did you have them save them to SD card or device memory...to check your rom go to settings and then system then device information...and that will tell you what ROM....
You know, It would probably make sense to ask you how much space you have on your phone right now. Check both storage space on the phone and free program memory. Also the SD card.

LOL, and that's supposed to be "not much". I send/receive like 5-10 a month, and never exceed 100-200 in the inbox without deleting on hard resets every ~6 months
ClearTemp app is the way to go
I have to agree with the Coleslaw Copper, the simple app cleartemp is the way to go. it will automatically identify and (upon your acceptance) will clear out all the little things that can bog down your phone's system, including your temp file, cache, and i believe your deleted mail. A very sensible way to address your memory problem. Also, redirecting your everyday items to your storage card will help.
