What is your favorite ROM for the T-Mobile Wing. I am looking for a ROM that is fast, and the MMS will still work.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Radio Version
Also, the new Radio version would be nice
the best rom for any device is the one that you like the best.
In the herald forum, the main contenders are OpenTouch by ttran, Touch-it by itje, itspapablack by papamopps, Asergs roms by aserg, and just2clean/justme by ivan. There are other roms made by other people, but these are the main ones (kidnamedalbert and ginolin come to mind)
usually, the radio rom doesn't that make that big a difference, but the best one for me is something along the lines of 3.21.90 or something like that
People always ask "whats the best rom?"
Try a couple of them, and see what YOU like.
sounds like they just want to take the easy way out and not read all the post on each one. read and dive in if you dont like it you can always flash aging and become addicted like the rest of us
I can understand people not using the results from a search. All of the ROM forums are huge...look at TTran's newest thread OTP 6.5 167 pages or so...thats a lot of information to cipher even as an advance user!
I think there should be the release thread and a second thread with all fixes. would make questions from noobs a lot easier to answer. Hopefully some wouldn't have to ask questions!

I agree with you there man. The forum is so huge and sometime the search function does not help much. You know what, I think the moderators should "sticky" all the newest ROMs so people don't have to hunt around for it.

I actually think that the chefs should change the subject lines on their older roms to "OUTDATED" .. and that will be alot less trouble on THE moderator.

Of course that works too, but that doesn't help when the chefs became inactive, like Aserg or ITJE. Unless people monitor the forum frequently for awhile, it is quite difficult for the to find the most updated roms from those chefs. Maybe this is why sometime we still see people asking how to flash TouchIT 3 or something (REALLY) outdated like this on the forum.
as a newbe that took 6 weeks to figure out how to flash my frist rom and "still" not sure I got a current realease, I think you guys are on the right track. IMHO of course.

I just look at the posted date.
It would be nice if there were a reliable list of ROMs rather than just forum posts. I hate digging through hundreds of "me too", "that's great" posts to get to REAL information.
It's especially tough because I'm not the one using the ROM--I flash it for my wife and she has no clue what's out there or what she wants--she just tells me what she has problems with and what she doesn't like about what's on her phone now.
That being said, What is a suggested ROM for my wife? She uses EpocratesRX, text messaging, contacts management, and Google Maps.
She's using OpenTouch 5 or 6 right now and she has problems with the scroll bar disappearing in the text messaging app, whenever she reboots, she has to change the display orientation to landscape and back to get the start bar to appear, etc. She can't stand all those little quirks. She also wants to scroll through her contacts and be able to call one easily with few clicks--right now if she gets to a number she wants to be able to hit the green call button and dial, but it just brings up the dialer with her last called number, not the number of the contact she was looking at.
if remember correctly, OT 5 had some problems with messaging. I don't recall what exactly those problems were, but that might be one of them.
Try using icontact or pocketcm for her contacts. They're simple, intuitive, and nice looking.
As for a rom for your wife? Try them all. It sounds like she has some applications that not alot of other people use, so try a "clean" or "lite" rom with lots of memory for extra application. i personally suggest Open Touch 6 lite.

How can we know what will dissapoint you? Just try it, and if you don't like, choose another rom.
The time you have wasted creating this thread could be used better .
**** THE **** is with you people!!!! I am not asking you to read the threads and decide!!!
I JUST WISH Y'ALL TO GIVE ME YOUR OPINION ABOUT WM 6.5 ROM
Almost the new WM6.5 roms are equal...
So feel free to try one of the latest ones.
Its hard people say that "x" or "y" is the better one. I respect the coockers at XDA and so i refuse to say wich one to choose. So all i can say is to get one of the latest you find around.. they´re all almost the same thing in terms of speed and stability.
Or in other hand... you can always wait for the real one

They´re almost the same thing.. just pick one

I am thinking about Miri WM 6.5 21198 :: V 5.2 --- but its just because that rom has been around for the longest time and all the bugs should be worked out!!!!
But maybe I am wrong about those bugs!!!!
it drives me nuts when someone responds to these types of questions with **** like "LoL LERN TO READ"... or which is akin to "how about reading through the 2000+ posts on each rom to try to decipher whether or not it may or may not work the way you want it to, when in reality it would take me the same amount of time to type a valid response like [Hey, i use the so and so 6.5 rom and it works great for me, its fast, responsive, etc]... "
for jesus sake just answer the question or ignore the thread. I get my touch HD today, so i don't have any good advice, but i'm asking the same question this guy is. I don't have the time to browse through 65 pages of posts on each rom to find out the +/-

Well atleast Im not the only one!!!!!
Oh and congratulations on your new device!!!!
I would suggest miri's 6.5 ROM since thats the only one I have tested and felt it was fast and stable enough for the daily use.
I also like Davide's and HelloNasty cooking... but I have not flased their 6.5 ROMs lately.. so cannot comment on 'em.
Having said the above, I would also say, you cannot escape away from reading thorugh the threads... No one in the right mind would go thorugh every page of the 100 odd pages of the thread. You would usually browse through the last 5 or 10 pages to see what are the issues that are being discussed. Chefs release versions regulary fixing the problems. So it would make no sense reading about problems from earlier versions of the ROM that you have flashed. Especially the chef like "miri" released a ROM version almost every day... In fact he even released 2 version within 24 hrs.
So, flash any one of the latest versions of the ROMs by reading through the last few pages of the thread.
Hello everyone !
I agree with both of your comments.
As the firsts post said, sometimes you can't decide wich rom is better (cuz obviously there isn't).
You can't also say "oh that cooker suck" cuz i think even the worst cooker put 100000x more time, love anb contribution to this awesome comunity than people who send those kind of ugly remarks. I'm so impressed by rom cookers.
Secondly, it also depends of your daily uses, for instance i love fast and stable rom with nothing in it (like dutty's one) but some ppl like to have ton's of usefull apps ....
So yeah okay, you have to spend some time reading the board but it's not easy when you work 10h+ a day like me.
But on the other hand, it can always be appreciate when people who have time to test roms to give +/- advices.
For instance i'm reading posts speaking of 6.5 i'm very tempted but i have some questions :
- is it as fast as some dutty's rom for example (i'm saying dutty i only tryed his rom and love it)
- is it user friendly as manila ?
- will i be desapointed ?
It's also a pain when you have to read 207 pages of comments to know where to go, especially when comment's are "I installed this uber app of the death but it's not working with this rom gimme a fix" or "gogo change this icon i don't like it".
so ok tommorow i'll spend 1h to flash and test a 6.5 rom made by all those pro cookers but if i have 2/3 clues about wich one to pick or even if it's not necessary to try because 6.5 will not be as fast as 6.1 I think it can be always helpfull to have answers to those kind of questions.
But okay if noone have some precise advices i'll spend another hour or two to read all 6.5 rom posts it is just always nice and kind to help those in needs (i didn't said respond to very stupid questions of ppl who don't want to search 3sec about "how can i change my wallpaper" or "how can i make a call my provider is orange bla bla bla")
I'm glad when I see this kind of community and when everyone share his wisdom, please let's keep the same spirit.
See ya around,
Veskit
Both Mirri and HelloNasty are ok, Mirri has app. one to two frezze per day, is better concerning battery lenght, has nice dialer, but when going from messages to home freezez.
Nasty has a lot more applications, almost no need to install anything extra, but also freezez from time to time and aets battery like crazy.
PhamQuang is nice, but more for manilla oriented, and not working to good with lock app.
All together it's still raw beta and not ready for everyday / primetime.
Still very promising
hope this helps You
Like everyone else said, there are a fair few WM 6.5 ROM's try reading about them, see what bugs they have, see what fixes have been cooked in, etc. etc.
Thanks
Dave
I am just wondering if the chefs are going to be making a fully tested windows mobile 6.5 rom anytime? If they will, will there still be bugs in them and especially the lock screen?
In before the abuse.
There are plenty of Windows Mobile 6.5 ROMs out there but unlike desktop operating sytems there are many many different versions.
Even official roms are going to have bugs, all we can do (as Touch HD users that will likely never get an official 6.5 rom) is find an active chefs whose work we like and give feedback on their releases...
...although even then I doubt we can "fully test" them.

agree with E Punk... the chefs test as best they can then it's up to us. when i hear "fully tested", i think of a high-level test strategy, detailed test plans (positive/negative tests), unit test, integration test, use case, debug-fix, user-acceptance-test, more debug-fix, etc., etc. that's simply a lot of work... once we get a hold of a ROM, load it, use it and report findings the chefs can review posts to look for consistent errors and those are generally fixed pretty fast. bottom line: if we wanna play, we have to be willing to accept that there will be bugs, behavior quirks or whatever you want to call it. the problem some of us have is knowing when to STOP flashing, lol!!!
i think that a version without major bugs will be out when htc releases official winmo6.5 rom updates for touch diamond2 and touch pro2, as those phones share 99% hardware with our hd

Hi all
It is all very well 4 u experts. All these talk about flashing rom and WM6.5. However, no mention of where really this WM6.5 download is, the guy on youtube points to places that do not exist on xda developers site. I open Mary one thing it does not show any of the things he talks about. Also the hard spl he talks about caused me to waste 2 full days trying to restore my phone to its original function. Yes it was grbaged until with pere=severance I figured out a simple download to restore it. Can any one please make simple straight forward steps to find the WM6.5 download?

With all due respect, I can only assume based on your post count that you are new to the HD, you need to read this forum more. Find the wiki and and read it. I was on this forum for 4 months before I flashed my first rom. Windows 6.5 is not meant for our HDs. A lot of the issues that people are complaining about may or may not affect you. I have no problem with daily use with most of the roms I read and read before and after I flash. I don't expect anyone else to do the dirty work for me but there will always be someone who gets there before me. All these posts are inundated with "does this feature work" or "in the last rom I could do this can this rom do it". I know it is a pain in the backside to flash you phone all time but that is why we are hear. If you are just wanting the perfect rom then you are probably in the wrong place.
I hope this does not come across to hard but I read this forum almost every day. The best advice I can give you is to read then read some more. Or you could end up with an expensive brick.

This isn't an attack.
You don't understand the extent to which a cook has control over most bugs (or doesn't). Most of the bugs you see in the ROMs you're looking at are way beyond the cooks control. Remember, they don't have the source code -- they can't fix the software. What they can do is look for updated versions from the developers that might have fixed a problem (but maybe introduce new ones). The biggest control chefs have is over things that can be controlled in the registry: things like visual layou, etc. In addition, some optimization options are available when packaging the ROM, however, I'd advise that you just understand that 6.5 is still an unreleased beta product (even if plans for release have been finalized) at this point.
Your friendly community (volunteer) chefs have done all they can to bring us interesting samples of this upcoming product. The bugs are not a result of lack of testing at all.

Judging from how "4" and "u" are not words, and the way this unknown "youtube" guy has given him the impression that he's a representative of xda-dev, I'd say he's new the HD, and somewhat new to life -- maybe 14 or so years old.
Reminds me of the tone that AOL users had when they first came onto the "Internet". They used to angrily demand tech support for the Internet from ops in IRC as if those people worked for some "service" that they were paying for. Oh, those were the days.
Your advice was perfect.
Rob
Slightly going off orginal query topic which has already been answered well in my opinion by both Electronic Punk & cortez.i. Not much else needs to be discussed on that topic

Hello..i've got 2 favours to ask..Since im a newbie around here, and i just bought a Touch HD, i would two things: first a decent(straight forward rom for 6.5, so it will look like EXACTLY HD2, i.e wallpaper, homescreen, touchflo, etc)..what i mean is, the background and etc wont be changed, just the same as it comes from HTC..and if possible, something to fix the My weather problem..
Another thing is, if i decide to go back to 6.1, can u suggetst a good "original" rom??
P.S: Ssince im a newbie id ont know how to flash a rom..what else do i need to do it??any software??
your help would be appreiciated
First, welcome to XDA-Dev,all you want is here for you
Second, unfortunatley it isn't served up on a plate for you.
I'm not sure if you noticed them on the way to the new post button but there are something like 10 stickies at the top of this forum. It is strongly recommended that you have a look at those first since all your questions are answered there.
Finally, no-one here will "recommend" a ROM since all of us are different and require different things from our phones. Once you figure out how to flash a ROM then you can try a few out to see which fits your needs best.
Have a great time on the site
Alchopop
ROMS AND OPINIONS (if you care)
Everytime this type of question is mentioned and discussed is pointless and has no pertinent use of obtaining any real information as each ROM is cooked to different needs for different cooks. The only way to find out which ROM is best for you is to read each Cook's thread and all the posts of what people are talking about and to try each ROM for yourself. And if none of the ROMs are what you're looking for then the only true way to satisfy your needs is to stop being a customer and become a chef yourself and cook up the ROM the way you like it.
It doesn't take long to flash your phone and play with it for a bit. If you don't like it then flash it with a different ROM and try that out. The longest time you'll spend is most likely downloading the ROMs. So I suggest to start downloading all the ROMs you'd like to try and save the to your HD and the just start loading a ROM on to your phone until you find one that you like.
And PLEASE do not post bugs or problems with the ROMs until you've read all the posts in that ROMs thread as it's most likely been mentioned and stated how to correct the problem. i.e. SMS not working in some ROMs.
And the first page of each Cook's ROM threads state what they've done and usually post pictures of the ROMs so you have an idea of what you're tasting. So READ and enjoy!
Yet another one of these threads?!?
you should read the wiki and the stickies at the top of the forums...

christ... do you need to bold and highlight everything?
there's no 1 rom that'll suit all users / we all have different preferences
"overview are already given by the ROM author/cook in their own respect threads"...
if you you cant be bothered to read and try/error yourself then i'm sorry, no one here can help you...
stick with the official rom you're using now... this would cause you the least issues...
otherwise go get an iphone/nokia
well, im always in good mood on helping new guys (coz im new and i know how hard is to jump in a so technical forum without any help), and personally i find comments like "tehres a lot of threads like this...bla bla", very unuseful...better to not answer at all instead of answering without giving informations...
anyway, as stated before, there is a lot of ROMs here, so search the one that will fit better your personality and don't bother ...
(jk)
is best to know what kind of improvements you'r searching.
Most of the info are coded in the title of the thread , so you can speed up a bit your research.
For example : [25.01.09] is the release date, this become useful when you need to track a ROM to see if there is some new updates, or just to locate the ROM in the time...
[WM.6.5.3] : it shows the OS (Windows Mobile 6.5.3) that will replace your old, lazy Windows Mobile 6.1, installed in all the official ROMs.
So if you are searching for a ROM including WiMo 6.5 or Android etc... this will be the code that should shine on your eyes.
[Manila.....] it means that the User Interface Manila (tipical in HTC products like Diamond, HD etc) was ported in the device, so you will get a pretty new user interface that you can also use like a panel instead of having it as default interface.
Others criteria can be referred to the pureness of a ROM or declare what kind of customizations were made by the cook , so a [WM.6.5 PURE] means that you will find ONLY the improvement of WM6.5.
Others are like brands, recalling the name of the cook, or the name of a "famous" ROM that has been changed in several aspect from the original but that will keep the feeling of the original one (like Touch-IT, SEX1, Un-Off series)...
Some others will refer to a specific HTC phone [LEO] or [TOPAZ], this means that the ROM were basically ported from an HTC device to another, or from another device to our X1 (see X2 ROMS) ...
Or you can find language indications [ITA] or [ENG] or [SWE] etc etc...
But first you need to know what you are searching for ...
For sure switching to WM6.5 is a huge change (imho) , avoiding Manila will save a lot of RAM, searching for some X2 stuff will give you some eye candy etc etc...
personally i installed on first days of December the SEX1 Pure WM 6.5 ROM from gtrab... amazing...simply amazing... very fast and bug free... it gave additional months of life to my X1.
On how to install a custom ROM (pretty different from updating ROM via SEUS) there is 2 sticky threads in this forum, you should learn how to do it by yourself...so don't ask about this...
Enjoy your X1 !

How are any of the posts that Senior members like myself have posted are useless? You can't really experience a cook's ROM by asking other people. What someone might like might not be what's best for you. You really need to learn more about how this forum works. This isn't your typical forum where you can ask and get. This is a forum where you learn from experience, hence "Devolopers" in the title.
And the sharing of "warez" is not allowed! So you obviously have a lot of learning and reading to do. First off, start with the stickies on the main pages.
I understand that there is alot to this forum, i have been getting alot of my updates from here. when i said useless i meant just reply to this thread without attempting to help is useless. I like to hear people's opinions in order to make a decision since there is so much in this forum. it would be nice just to get some insight and opinions, not overloaded links.

And if you want other users opinions about ROMs then go to the specific ROM threads and READ!
@Yaboistarr
no warez for me man
@Im Packing
"This is a forum where you learn from experience"
yeah and is so satisfying ! That's why everybody here didnt bought an iPhone
Anyway don't forget that not everyone has the time needed to really learn everything, you cannot figure how much i would learn how to cook, but i don't have time...
First impact should be soft, you cannot start maths with equations uh?
Otherwise people will just fall back to sites where they can find warez or crappy applications...

Not overload link and you start a new thread...??? Is people like you who over load
Thanks for the info.
I've been wanting to ask the same question but I'm waaaayy to shy to get flamed. There is such a thing as a bad answer and it's the one that contains useless or condescending material (like asking how to enable root login in linux, we know it's bad form but regurgitation of that is just stupid, answer the question or don't post).
That being said, I've been through these forums, have loaded several roms on and have tried to read through the rom pages. I have also noticed that sometimes things like radio version are missing from rom pages and that there's 110 or so pages of comments. Unfortunately, I don't have near enough time to look through that many comments, though I'd love to. This thread, due to one great answer, is awesome.
Basically, I forget the name, but sernior dude that keeps posting to read the comments and whatnot, in that same amount of time, could probably have contributed quite a bit to this thread, being in the know and probably having an opinion on the various roms/chefs/whatnot...
Also, a stikied thread where chef's can add their new roms to a table, or something on those lines, would be a huge benefit to everyone and save tonnes of time, not to mention it would get more spotlight for each chef as one wouldn't have to search through the billions of forum pages to find a rom...
Looking for an android rom at the moment, personally

There's always time to learn...I own my own business working ungodly hours a week and I manage to find time to get on the forums to read/download ROMs. I was being straight forward about my approach, but I wasn't being rude at all. I can prove posts to where I'm rude. But for someone who's wanting to flash ROMs is willing to read to flash their phone, but not willing to read and find out what each cook has specifically done to their ROMs and asking for opinions instead is just flat out lazy.

The OP is willing to read about how flash his phone, but not willing to read what each ROM is about? I could share my experiences, but if you want to know what I think then go to each ROM specific thread and read what I've written! And if you're too lazy to really read the entire thread and find out what the ROM is really about because of the "I don't have time" excuse then just read the first page of each cook's ROM. There's almost always pictures, change logs, updates, and a good general wealth of information of what that ROM is about.
There should be no reason for threads to be started about which ROM is best for me as it's been stated a few times now that basically it's "To Each and Their Own!" This forum is about research and development. RESEARCH!
@im packing
really how you can judge the time of other people?
teach me that...please !
How can you say that the statement "i don't have time" is just an excuse and "help me" is lazyness...
Im not talking about how many hours you work weekly or daily....you are supposed to work during your job time and not learn xda dev fora... im talking about people that once finished the working time may have 1 or 2 hours to reach their houses and then deal with kids, wife, dogs, house management etc etc etc... to fall destroyed on their beds and wake up 5 hours later to restart again and again...
they don't have the right to acces this forum knowledge to have a better device?
or they don't deserve simply your patience and attention...?
explain me...
while i respect the job that you claimed for this community, you seems to me a bit arrogant...
