I like going in and croping photos after I take them to get rid of all the other stuff in the photo I don't want. I also like being to save this cropped photo as a different photo (filename) so that I still have the original.
Now when I try to edit the photo I get a "There was an error saving the file" dialog every time...and the original photo is overwritten with my cropped changes.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start "Pictures & Videos"
- Open the photo I want to edit
- Menu > Edit
- Menu > Crop
- Select my crop area and tap in the center of that area to accept
- Menu > SaveAs
* Error: "There was an error saving the file."
I have verified that this error exists on Both my storage card AND in main memory.
Any ideas...I'm getting tired of overwriting the photos.

I reproduced this issue but never had an error. Tried this with several photos. Do you have a Stock or Cooked ROM. Have you tried removing and reinserting the battery whilst the phone is powered on and also failing that try a hard reset on the handset. If none of these options work and you have a stock ROM I would suggest speaking to your network provider as you may have a bad sector on the handset and may need to get a replacement

Stock Rom (w/o Bloatware).
Softreset...ng
BatteryPull (which I guess does a soft reset too)..ng
Haven't done a Hard Reset on it yet. Afraid of loosing any data stored on the phone.

Hi for a while now the gallery app seems to show me duplicate images of up to 5 of the same image.
this happens to only a few folders but is rather annoying to have to scroll through 5times the amount of pictures to get to the one i want.
does anyone know how to fix this? or even what the problem is?
atm using Doc rom JPO v7.5 on i9000 no lagfix, hardcore's speedmod kernel with tweaks on, no BLN.
go gallery, select all and delete them. then re-import your pictures. easiest to get around. probably some thumbnails cache that screwed up.
yeah i'll give that a try, thanks
This has been happning quite often on my phone, what I do is just delete the image cache on the andriod folder and stop the gallery application and use clear data and lastly clear the data on media provider and reboot, 100x faster than moving over thousands of pics.
I've been having this bug ever since going to froyo, am currently on JPO.
I have my camera set to store photos on the external SD, the camera folder for the ext sd card in the gallery app just keeps duplicating photos in that folder.
So I may have 100 odd photos but after a while ill end up with 6 copies of each..
Such a nasty bug... its really annoying to have to scroll through so many duplicates to view the latest photos you took with the camera
Just noticed you are on docs rom too, so am i... and thats when i started having this bug...
is it happening with only one folder for you?
Same problem here... Currenty using Doc's v9 but issue existed on v8.
I have up to 16 copies of each (!) photo in my gallery.
Clearing thumbnails and application cache solves the problem but only until the next reboot.
Could this be a filesystem bug?
Edit:
Tried without lagfix, but issue still exists.
For some reason deleting .thumbnails en clearing cache doesn't work anymore. :-(

this actually worked for me!
Now let's see how it long takes for it to happen again.

Yeah, got same problem on JPM9 with speedmod kernel k9a.
Just tried suggested fix:
- delete all .thumbnail folders in image folders on both SD cards,
- stop gallery and media storage apps, then clear cache.
Seems to work fine now.
@Warrior_ZA:
Did you update your speedmod kernel from a version 8 or less? There was a bug serious filesystem bug in that kernel that might explain the problem.
i've noticed that this occurs a lot of the time when i accidently pull out the usb cable without safely removing the usb from the computer.
Adevem is right, something is wrong with the cache system.
The method i used to fix it was to just delete the whole folder and reimport the images again as suggested by Earlz.
however i think you can get away without deleting images if you delete the thumbnails in the android > com.android.providers.media > albumthumbs
i did it and it worked, so maybe you guys would like to give that a go.
hope it helps
the simplest i've found is to delete "Android" in /sdcard
settings > apps > all > media storage/content - fc and clear cache and data
reboot, wait for mediascanning and you're good!
Hello,
I have an Ativ S GT-I8750 and i have the following problems:
1) It restarts randomly (only every Saturday so far, which I find strange).
Sometimes it restarts only one time, other times it restarts 3 times in 4-5 hours, etc.
I suspect one of the installed programs is causing it, but i am not sure which one.
I have reset the phone and re-installed the apps but nothing changed.
OS version:8.0.10327.77
firmware revision:2424.13.5.1
hardware revision:15.15.1.0
radio software version:2424.13.5.1
radio hardware version:0.0.0.800
Bootloader version:13.04.19.21
Chip soc version1.5.32
Is there a way to find out what is causing the restarts?
2) Today, after the last random restart, the program list appearance changed.
It changed from list A to list B (check attached images)
I really hate the latter version. I uninstalled several apps in order to make the list shorter, so it would return to its initial state, but it did not.
Any ideas how to remove the initials from the apps list?
Thanks
Have you tweaked the phone at all (interop-unlock, etc.)? That shouldn't cause the problem, but if it did we would need to know.
There's a way to pull some diagnostic logs off the device using the Diagnosis app, but I can't help you interpret them.
Not sure what's up with the icon shrinkage; that's just weird. As for the jump list, it appears when you have a minimum number of items (45?) in the list - this includes email accounts and such - and there's no official way to get rid of it short of hard reset. In practice, I'm pretty sure that state is controlled in the registry, though. In any case, given the massive speed-up in how quickly it lets you navigate the list (tap any of the heading letters, then tap the first letter of the app you want to launch and it skips to that part of the list) it's not something I've ever tried to get rid of. Once you have a hundred or so apps installed, operating without it will seem impossible.
No tweak whatsoever.
The icons did not shrink, i pulled these images off the web just to show the change in the app list.
I do not use that many programs, so that is why i do not like the jump menu.
Thank you for your time and keep up the good work!
Updated my firmware today and just noticed that the Album app no longer shows the camera photos I took before the update. Or, to be more precise, it shows all those photos in the mashup of all images from all apps on the main Album screen (which I've always found insanely annoying), but when I select the "Camera" folder from the menu, the "Photos" subfolder shows only the couple of pics I took since the firmware update but none of the dozens I took before the update.
Anyone else have this problem?
The camera has to reset the storage folder setting from internal to SD. (at least it had to be done with me)
Yes, I managed to fix it in the end by deleting data from the Media Storage process/app then refreshing the search index in File Commander. Everything is back to normal now (but thanks Sony for the SNAFU)
I am using X-Rom 2.3.1 and have issues trying to do anything in the Gallery or Google Photos app. Trying to copy, move, and sometimes view pictures throws an error saying it has stopped responding. This happens about 3 or 4 times for every picture moved, and it is frustrating. I've tried clearing Media Storage and Download Manager's , restarting the phone, and even disabling Media Storage. Disabling Media Storage worked, but I could no longer access the Gallery (which defeats the point of even trying to solve the error to begin with.) What should I do about this issue?
Edit: So I've gotten the error to stop appearing by using Simple Gallery instead of the Samsung Gallery. Simple Gallery is a better app anyway, so I don't mind using it. However, the thought that I am putting a band-aid on the problem doesn't sit well with me. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I've tried basically everything a Google Search will find and no amount of cache clearing, app preference resetting has been able to fix it.
Edit 2: I apparently had some file in my downloads folder that was refusing to be read. I backed up the folder and deleted it and it works now.
I finally received my 4XL and have been setting things up. I decided to take a few test shots with the camera and noticed a strange and concerning issue...
When I take a picture and tap the small viewfinder icon on the bottom right of the camera UI, there is a blurred version of the image and then it just goes black. I can still see the share and delete icons on the bottom but they do nothing when I tap on them.
After about 10 seconds, it will finally load, or I'll have to navigate out back to the camera viewfinder and then back again to the gallery to see the picture I took.
Selfies are even worse (particularly portrait mode). They just disappear after I take the picture and I have to redo the same troubleshooting steps described above. However, I have to wait a full 30 seconds or so before the portrait mode selfie shows up.
I've tried clearing data and cache of both the Camera and Photos app, uninstalled updates, rebooted into safe mode, tried with the stock kernel and Kirisakura, to no avail.
Anyone else having this issue? I'm trying to see if I can resolve this without resorting to a factory reset.
EDIT *RESOLVED*
It was my fault. I had Tasker set to move pictures from the default DCIM folder to a different folder of my choosing, once the Photos app opens.
I guess viewing a picture after taking it is technically part of Google Photos, hence why it was going black (picture no longer exists in that location or not enough time to process the image before it gets moved, thus corrupting the file).
This thread can be closed but I thought I'd share the solution in case the rare chance anyone else has a similar Tasker setup to mine.
