I have a feeling that this will become quite a discussed post. The *taster* version of TT that comes with the Kaiser allows you to download only one map - and the selection is limited.
I have a TomTom Go in my car and was wondering if I can use the map data from there? I have all of Western Europe. Obviously I'll need a memory card capable of holding it but the real question is - can you use TT Go maps on TT Mobile?
R
I suspect that the maps are attached to a particular device.
Depends on the map version you have.
I guess the Kaiser has a version 6 Tomtom. Therefore you need at least map designed for that version.
In general the maps for the Go and the WM versions of TomTom are identical. Theoretically it should work.
BUT:
Apart from that you also need a device specific activation code belonging to the map/device combination. Your maps are obviously allready activated for your Go, so you cannot activate them on a second device.
Maybe the TomTom helpdesk (forum on their site) can help you out.
Taster version of TomTom with Kaiser......is it possible to uninstall it so that I can install my own tomtom which I have got on my current sd card in trinity, as it is activated and with all maps? I mean, is this tatser verison included in ROM or is it removable from settings?
Thanks

I believe i noticed in the "retail TyTN II unboxing" video, that TomTom resides on a CD with applications in the box.... So that would mean you have to install it yourself, and in that case you can go with your own full copy of TomTom...
What i would like to know is, if version 6.030 from my Trinity will run smoothly on the Kaiser...???

tomtotm isnt on the rom. so there will be no need to uninstall anything. just put your version on and use it. its supplied on the software disk. I'll be putting my own version of tomtom onmine when i get my micro sd card hopefully tomorrow
but the version on the CD Rom is the latest (6.0.32)
the 6.0.32 version of TTN6 is specific for WM devices with built-in GPS, like the Kaiser.
So, best option is to use the app from the kaiser package and your own maps.
I think you can just copy the map folder from the TomTom Go to an microSD card and see if it is working.
I bet it is.

Legally? No. TomTom licenses you maps per device, so what you have is licensed to your GO.
Practically? Yes. You'll need one of the many keygens out there....
Can you nav guys help. I've never used GPS with my TyTN. I'm considering a TyTN II and have some questions.
Can you use the built in GPR without an external antennae with Google Maps with the TyTN II? Or do you need the TomTom or other software?
I like using Google maps.

You don't need an antenna or extra software like tomtom. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly setting up the ports to use to get say Google Maps or other software to see the inbuilt GPS - but you get there in the end!

Mike:
Thanks again for your reply. I think I may pick up the TyTN II here pretty quickly. I just wanted to hear that the built in GPS actually does something.

What port are you using in Googlemaps? I've left it at auto, which doesn't work :S
Thanks!
People said that Googlemaps is not so friendly with long waiting to get satelite fix. So, Googlemaps tend to disconnect and wont tell you anything.
The workaround (not nice btw), is to start TomTom to get satelite fix, then quit.
After that Googlemaps will be able to connect to the GPS and works fine.
But, sorry for asking, what are the good things of Googlemaps compare to, let say TomTom or Route66, etc. Of course, it is FREE, but other than that?
Is Googlemaps available for all continent (Europe?) ?
bear in mind that google maps is an API, not just a web site.
It is possible to write location sharing apps etc for google maps, a mobile interface would be very cool.
Guys where on earth is the tomtom cab file for version 6? I only got 2 cd's, 1 applications which only has 3 apps (but not tomtom) and the starter cd which I did look all over? Is there more than 2 cd's?
Please help, I just got the kaiser today and want to install tomtom.
Thanks.

I don't have Tomtom6 on any CDs either , I got the units from SuperiorGadgets, they are HTC Tytn II. And I tried Mapopolis, map4pda, igo 2007, Destinator 6, none can see GPS.
What is the hardware port? I checked the GPS CP app, it shows COM4: as software, none for hardware. I tried couple of settings there, none worked so far.
I like to install a gps software that has the capability for US Maps, is it possible? What software could it be? I tried TOMTOM but it wouldn't install on Windows Vista. The setup won't run.
Also, my SD card can't accomodate 1.2GB of maps, can I only select some places that I think I ll be needing gps assistance?
I'm using iGo MyWay Plus and I'm very happy with it.

Surely you didn't purchase Tomtom to give up on it so soon? Take it up with their support.
I use GPSTuner which is able to download maps on the fly from Google and other sources. It also comes with Map Calibrator which allows you to download maps from online sources (free), or scan your own maps in and calibrate. Works pretty well with the TYTN II, although the driver problem does slow it down sometimes.
It won't give you satnav functions though if that is what you are after, in which case your phone should have come with Tomtom or Copilot
Garmin Mobile XT, version for Windows Mobile phones w/ built-in GPS.
Comes on a 2 Gb card, works so good.
Try mapopolis.
hi! this is my first question on this forum...
I have a Kaiser and a startrek.... can I use Tomtom on my startrek using the kaiser's gps (with bluetooth connection)? If is possible, how can I do?
thx!!!
Out of the box, no.
I've heard of applications to share the GPS via Bluetooth, but to be honest, why would you want to?
Why dont you just use TomTom on the Kaiser?
i believe you can accomplish that with gpsgate, but then like jwbrint says, why dont you just use tomtom on the kaiser

+1 on that its the easier option
I've just installed the WM6.1 Professional on startrek and i wish try tomtom or sygic or other.... on it, but I haven't an external gps and don't want buy it only for this.... so I'll try "gpsgate"... THX!
PS: Is there a tutorial for this?
I could really use some help here. I installed garmin xt on my htc and it worked perfectly untill i hard reset my device and installed it again. garmin cant detect my map and it shows no map on the navigator area. i did paste the img file on the root of my garmin. mapsource detects it as well yet no map to be viewed. any ideas?
I use Garmin too
My english is poor but I will try to explain my opinion.
The Diamond detect the satellites? if not, the garmin dont know where are and dont show the maps.
The maps are in the Garmin folder in the internal memory yet?
I am using Garmin 5.00.20 al all ok.
Carlos
Presumably GMXT is running on your Diamond. Can you see the World base map? Have you already achieved a Sat lock? If you have all these and still not able to see your detailed Map, then either it is locked, or you have not selected the Map on your GMXT setup.

im facing same problem here. installed garmin tx, also archived the Sat Lock (it's working), anyway the Map is locked. I used it before into my Symbian Garmin, but i use to add the Map Unlock code into GMAPSUPP.UNL file into \garmin dir, i dunno if the same produce re for the Windows Mobile version?
PD: every time i initiate the Garmin, it ask for a 8 digit product key (this weren't asked into the symbian garmin, you can hit continue anyway)
I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I have tried to search for an answer to this but not found any.
I've attempted to install TOMTOM 5 on my Diamond with no success and any help would be much appreciated.
I have the disc and the path is D:\disc1\tomtom-navigator-5-Benelux\setup. When I run the install, the dreaded message 'TomTom Setup Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience' is displayed.
I copied the whole disc1 folder to the internal storage on my diamond but all the files were read only. Where am I going wrong??!!??
If you want to install tomtom at your phone then you need a .cab file just do a search at this forum and you will find one the only thing is that its a tomtom 7. and I don't believe it will run the maps of tomtom 5 but whit a good search in Google or somewhere else you maid find aswell the right maps.
Willem
Thanks, but what ,cab file? What is a .cab file?
A .cab file is used to install applications on Windows Mobile devices. Only TomTom 7 or later will work with the Diamond as no earlier versions worked with the inbuilt GPS receiver.

Before I used TT7.9 I had TT6.30 running on my MDA IV, getting a fix was horrible thought, but after that TT6.30 worked just fine...

Is that the reason I can't get the maps to work on the Diamond I picked up on Friday
Strange as the TT version I have, 5.1, worked great on the internal one on the SPVm700 I just moved away from.
My issue is how to get TT to read the maps. Once I've installed the cab files on the device I can't get them to read the maps on the internal storage. If I try and install the cab files on the internal I can't get TT to fire.
Really don't know where to go next - and dn't want to go back to teh m700 when traveling.
Ta muchly
i think its the location on where you're maps should be placed. On my diamond, the map files are located on the ROOT of the internal storage. Thats the only way it seems for it to be found. So it should be place in : Mobile Device\Internal Storage.
