What to use an extra 17" LCD for? - Off-topic

I was just given a newish 17" LCD (VGA) for free. I'm already using both ports on my PC, so what can I use it for? Obviously I could sell it, but I'm wondering about other uses:
- Video game console if I pickup a converter?
- Some sort of info display in my bedroom? (easy, cheap way to display headlines, current weather, etc.?)
- neat-o big ass digital picture frame?
What else? Also, does anyone have any leads on the above? What say you?

Use it as your PPC's monitor, drag it around town, woooooohooooo!!!!
Or as a door greeter:

if u can build pc make a car pc

17 is WAYY too big for a carpc, im using an 8in and thats huge considering your only 1 foot away from the screen. if i were you i would put in next to your current monitor and put ur music player and stuff like that on that screen while u use the main screen for web browsing and what not.

What I'd really love is a Chumby like device or the WidgetStation (which I don't know if it will ever come out...)
I could re-create it using a small Linux system, but it's the hardware I don't have a clue about. I envision now waking up to this display near my bed, on it are some "widgets" with weather, time, some RSS feeds, etc.
That would be sweet...

That's not a bad idea ChaOConnor. I like having everything right there when I wake up also.

I do like this idea. I may have to ponder it for myself.

Wow.. That's almost scary .. the future is now! god I miss my Coleco-vision Space Invaders game.
Very nice, I want it!!
nice, its like from Minority Report movie, but it is real
I like copying between devices, also GoogleEarth is nice.
I like the tochscreen computer.. .Really amazing, the computer looks like a toy.
omg I just had back-to-back geekasms
When I saw the first news articles about this thing, I though the only innovation in it was the big multitouch screen. (which would make it nothing more than an oversized tablet) but the idea of wirelessly autosyncing device just by putting them on the screen is nice.
One point though: How many of you would place a drink on a 10000$ computer screen?
P.S.
Mike: Now that VJ seems to have droped out of site (for the past few month) its nice to have someone keep up with "FunnyPic"(TM) replies.
Lol, when it comes to geek/real life cross overs, this one always makes me chuckle, and also, a little nervous (I have venustraphobia).

I think what's most interesting about this device is the department that made it, the same that makes gadgets and Zune. But consider: Scoble saw this two years ago. Think what they're upto now? It took them 2 years to fix the SMS counter on MS Smartphones, so maybe they've finally got SMS <> Outlook syncing working now!
@levenum: I've been working (Law, not phones ) for a while, apologies for my hypospermia. But, I have been coding too, and boy it felt good! Lots of new stuff coming out, eventually...
Missed you guys,
V
PS I wrote a multi touch interface once, on a small screen. But on 2.8 inches there's not much it's good for IMHO. Any thoughts?
Well, it they're $5000-$10,000 initially by the end of '07, that should make 'em affordable to the rest of us in 3-5 years. Now if it will just MIX the drink AND serve it.....
holy..balls that is sweet

Apps for Runners?

Hey all,
Are there any programs for runners that I can use for my fuze? Specifically, something like a GPS program that will track my route/distance/speed. I've heard this kinda thing exists for other phones, but not heard about this phone.
Thanks.
http://www.fuzemobility.com/go-for-a-run-or-a-bike-ride/
wish i woulda known this earlier
i bought a Nike+ for my ipod smh
truthfully there are a lot more of them:

sorry you had to resort to an iPod...I just puked a little thinking about it
Thanks! Just what I was looking for.
SportyPal is quite good, I'm using it for cycling(very good), but i read now on some thread that for running they have added to show the pace in real time with also all the other tools for measuring speed, distance, calories ...
try RUN.GPS, works very fine on mine.
Regards,
P.
+1 for SportyPal (sportypal.com). I use it to track my kayak trips down the rivers in the panhandle. It will overlay your path on an aerial photograph and has links with Facebook, so you can share it.
Sportypal is my program of choice. During the cross country season I can give my phone to one of my lead runners and track their pace during intervals and can also tuck it in my jersey pocket when I go on bike rides and have all that data at hand as well. Best thing? It's FREE!
check out endomondo. very nice and free.

I got an e-mail from them, that very soon they will have the option to choose the workout type from the phone as kayaking, rowing or some other interesting type of sports.
I dont think anyone mentioned G-Watch which I have found to be excellent for just what you described.

Some new types of workouts are added:
skiing, rowing, horse riding, driving, flying, sailing, swimming, hiking, paragliding, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, surfing

SmartRunner is one of the best applications for tracking, imho.

Running / Sports applications

Any suggestions / favorites in terms of "Running" applications?
I downloaded the "run.gps" trial, but it's not great. It seems to have a problem with the GPS sensor.
Anyway, there are a number of apps on the market, but I can't seem to find a good, comprehensive list or any reviews, and I was hoping to find a few suggestions from forum members, but I can't seem to find search terms that produce any results.
Thanks!
Buddy Runner by Cooloud. Elevation seems way off but I'm not interested in that. I've tried a few and thats the one I'm sticking with.
I use cardio trainer, i found that the best allthough i had stop the pedometer coming on because it was not very accurate when i have the phone on the waist. Also the gps is not as accurate as a garmin it seems to gain distance for some reason, oh and also it dosnt show splts. So basicly although it fairly good its not great and i have tried a few of them. I got ideas for a app like this and gonna have a crack at doing one but i am only learning so i am not absolutly sure i can do it but if i can it will be perfect for me anyway.
I use sportypal (free) it gives you options for all sorts of activities running, bikes etc. Also maps it for you. Pretty cool app

Yes I use sportypal also, for running is very professional and accurate with showing the pace while running, the speed, distance, time ...
And after finishing is very easy to upload the track with one button click or share across the social networks.

BLS Drug Profiles

Hey, I was bored so I figured I would code this app and throw it on the Android marketplace. It as all of the BLS Drug Profiles based off the Arizona Department of Health.
Before I throw it onto the market I figured I would ask what you guys think of the GUI. Do you guys like the way it looks? Or should I change it, what do you think I should do to make it better? Also keep in mind this is my first app.

Looks interesting. What I can see looks pretty good but you should post the apk so we can install and really check it out for ya.
This is a sorely needed app!
Thanks.
I wouldn't use blue for the text color though.
In bright lights or outdoors, that is gonna be very difficult to read.
Since this app could possibly be needed in an emergency situation, it's vital for everything to be able to be seen without any fuss or confusion.
Make it high contrast ... white text on black.
As for the overall ui, it's perfectly fine other than that. This isn't an app where asthestics are important. It's not something people will be glaring at for hours on end. It's utilitarian, it's reference. And keeping it simple is exactly what's needed.
One thing I might add at some point is a link to Wikipedia if there is one (at least I don't see it from the screenshots). Or if the material you're using for reference has other online references available to the general public, that's fine too. Especially something with links to pictures to help identify pills/capsules etc. That's just an idea.
Great job.
And if you're needing a beta tester, please let me know.
Thanks.

Ok, I will experiment with the color of the text I suppose. I can also ad a link to the Arizona Health Department Bureau of EMS. I also have a disclaimer to add, and it should be ready
Sorry for the double post, just wanted to let everyone know that I posted this on the market

Android Icon based tabs( Coming Soon - or later )

I don't know how much you guys pay attention to what goes on in the other sections of this forum but since I still own a Fuze as well as the HD2 I wanted to make sure you guys knew what I was still up to.
I made an Android 3D model a bit ago and offered it to the public to use as they wanted if they just asked for the file. Well nobody asked to use him so I guess I can waste some time here and there and get out a set of tabs. I'm not saying it will happen fast, but today I started from scratch with the other models like the phone,MMS,headphones,Footprint,etc..... I have him placed with several of them so far but with all the tabs that are out there right now it will be awhile till I have each of them made.

Just eleven more to do,lol........
Edit: was made later this eveing
New eMail icon. The other one looked odd in that direction plus it didn't allow me to use him at full size to the envelope.
Ok so what would poeple rather see...............
Him in Blue as shown above
or
Green like in the new Web icon?
those look great ...green or blue both are cool looking
Not totally happy with it but you get the idea. I'll just have to redo the shadowing. It's all wrong for the arrow.
How do you guys feel about a TwitterDroid?
Docs tab but I will have to do some work on this one but it's there for the most part.
Contacts......
One more.....What do you think for a weather icon?
I think they are pretty neat, and a little cute. LOL love em. U have a Hero and a Touch Pro, glad I saw these, made my night. Looks like a lot of hard work, nice job.
I have an HD2 and a Fuze(Touch Pro) I do not have a Hero.
Settings ......
I cleaned up the settings icon. I kind of rushed it the last time and short cut doing some things. Even this last one is not fully up to my specs but it will do for now. I have plowed out most of the tabs I'm going to do. Out of 17 total I have 3 more left.
Updated twitter icon possibly???????
they all look great Wil
Most likely the new Music Icon
Pictures & Video
Well I thought I would throw some humor into missed calls. If anybody has any ideas for something better I'm all ears. I can't think of anything I want to render for it.
