Possible GPSTest issue? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Disclaimers: Yes, I've done a search and haven't found anything discussing this.
Phone: AT&T Tilt
ROM: dutty's WM6.1 WWE (April 29th)
Radio: 1.64.08.21
Protocol: 25.74.40.02H
Issue: When using GPSTest, the GPS cycles on and off (GPS Starting up - GPS running) every few seconds (roughly every 5 seconds). The fix quality cycles from 1D to 3D in conjunction with this, and it seems to drop satellites and pick them back up.
This issue does not occur with VisualGPSCE. VisualGPS also seems to pick up the satellites and obtain a lock much faster than GPSTEST.
Has anyone seen this, and if so, are there any recommended fixes?
ETA: Of course, now that I've made this entry, it (GPSTest) seems to be working fine...go figure! I'd still appreciate if anyone else that has seen this problem would chime in, though.

GPS Test problem
I developed GPSTest and have not had any similar reports.
GPSTest calculates the speed between each Lat/Lon point it receives and averages it over several points, when the average speed drops below around 300kph and the fix is good the status screen will display "GPS - Running", until then it will display "GPS - Starting Up".
I hope this problem was just a one off. If it happens again let me know and I will look into it.

GPSTest works great for me and I'm using dutty's 6.1 rom also. I actually run GPSTest before I run my tomtom software and it helps connect way faster than running my tomtom software alone.

What do you have the baud rate set to?

Thanks for the info. Anyone know where I can find a GPSTEST Cab file? I googled it but only came up with an exe of it.

I think there is no cab because it's just an exe file to copy and run directly on your device, without any further install. If needed, create a shortcut in your programs folder.

Whenever I run GPSTest, it opens and begins scanning ports. Whenever it hits COM4 (port that my GPS is set to in Windows), an error message appears as a bubble coming out of the [E] Edge icon on the top bar stating "Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset the device..."
When it begins scanning my phone establishes a data connection as well (I can manually disconnect from Edge / 3G first, and then open GPSTest and I observe it try to connect again). Also the red LED never starts blinking on the phone.
With a stock AT&T rom, my Tilt's GPS worked fine with Google Maps.
Now that I loaded on ROMeOS v4 with Radio 1.65.20.29, I cannot get the GPS to work no matter what settings I attempt (hence why I tried this GPSTest program).
In adv. config I have GPS Photo enabled. Under A-GPS Settings, I have AGPS enabled. The External GPS program has GPS Program Port set to COM4, then on the H/W tab I have GPS H/W Port set to none (could this be the problem?) and the baud rate set to 4800. Under the Access tab, Manage GPS automatically is checked. Then under KaiserTweak I have Assisted GPS Enabled.
If I posted this in the wrong spot, just let me know. I found this thread by searching and it seemed in the ballpark at least.

GPS Fix Problems (official HTC ROM)

i have problems with Satalite FIX.
it can take mor then 10-20min (if at all) to get a fix.
i setup my GPS manualy to COM9 @ 4800.
i know (at least) one other user have a simular problem.
HTC, after some e-mails, say that if i DON'T use TomTom software, they can't help my with this isue.
any idea ?
thanks.
Fix
I had some problems with slow fix. I enabled the GPS applet in settings and it was configured at 33600, changed to 4800 and also in Tomtom and miomap settings configured to 4800, after that, very quick fix, on cold start less than 1 min, on warm start just seconds. Try it.
under, settings -> connection -> GPS ...
i set:
program tab:
GPS Program port = GPD9
hardware tab:
Port = com9
boud = 4800
access tab:
mark on the manage GPS Auto.
is taht OK ?
and allso on the navigation program i set manualy com9 @4800
Yep, that's my config and works right...
interesting... i have my settings as follows -
program tab:
GPS Program port = GPD1
hardware tab:
Port = com1
boud = 115200
access tab:
mark on the manage GPS Auto.
with these settings i get a fix in 30 sec to 90 sec...

After a sofreset? Probably not
The "warm reset time" in a GPS is not related with the Port number or the baud rates...but with its sensibility
SAme for me the GPS response can take up to 10 minutes.
I tried your setting Julioski and AriebK but it doesn't help?
In tomtom I don't see where to set the port and the baud speed can you help?
Any other ideas?
after configure the above settings, i get FIX, but after 20-30min of navigation... the FIX is gone, one more thing, i notice that my phone 3g signal drop allso, SR was nedded.

According to HTC the reason the GPS function was not enabled in the first place was a conflict with the GSM signal, anyway try manually setting your phone band to GSM and see if that makes a difference.(Settings, phone, band, select network type:GSM)
What radio version have you installed?
1.35, 1.38???
I have an HTC p3600 Trinity and have also just installed the newest ROM from HTC.
I downloaded the TomTom application from HTC, installed it and everything "seems" fine accept I cannot acquire any signals.
I have tried many of the different GPS settings from the GPS manager, but nowhere do I see a way to change what TomTom is looking for. There are 5 default gps reciever options... (builtin, bluetooth, wired, other bluetooth and other NMEA device) and I really have no idea what to choose if I have to input the settings.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Both the "built in" and "COM9" should work (and do for me).
Make sure you're in an open area, and give it enough time to acquire a signal (could take 10 mins).

Maybe that's why ... sorry couldn't help it...
Are you sure there aren't any other factors involved (like heavy cloud cover, rain, , etc.?) or more than 3 days since last fix (not that this should take 15 minutes - this is more than downloading the whole almanach). Can you check if you have signal all the time, or if you keep loosing all satellite signal? Because if it looses all satellites, he has to start from the beginning with the fix, so it's in a loop until he gets proper signal.
Well there seem to be quite a few issues with the GPS,personally i'm using the Destinator 6 software ,and here is what i noticed ;
With the official HTC rom :
The software detects the GPS in about a minute and acquires a fix in about 3-4 minutes with the GSM on and a clear sky.
If i softreset the device then 1/3 times it won't find a GPS antenna and i have to manually reconnect and define the com port,it then takes apprx 5 minutes to get a fix.
The weird thing is that when i used Destinator PN i didn't have any of these issues .
Lately i've started using img-32424-mUn and i've noticed a definite improvement in both GPS strength and speed.
i did use following test rom, the gps response is around 1min.
RUU_Trinity_CHT_1.23.751.1_101_6275_1.29.00.11_108_Test.exe
however, by using offical rom whatever config the baud rate or GDP, required 8-10 to get the fix.
the problem is that it's not stable
one day i get a FIX within 1 min, next day after 20...
and 2 days later, not getting any FIX.
i tryed with GSM and 3g ...
i guess the radio (or the GPS part) isn't as we excpect it
sad that HTC dont want to support users that NOT use TomTom.
I think it would be useful if each of us told the others the type of GPS software they were using as it (The GPS software)seems to affect the time it takes to acquire a signal.
Also try using the GPS with and without the radio (Flight mode) and see if it makes a difference.
No GPS Signal & Icon
Hi! I've another problem. I've downloaded new ROM upgrade and Tomtom applications. After waiting for 10 minutes, my device says no signal received. I read from some forums we can adjust some variables but there is no GPS icon under settings\connections folder.
Can anybody help me! I have version WWE 1.23.405.

Still can't GPS to work... can anyone help?

I've just got the Vario III new from T-Mobile UK, and I just can't the GPS get to receive any signals. I guess there is no "in box" way of testing the GPS, so I downloaded MS Live Search, and in there the "Centre on GPS". Previously, I set the hardware to COM0, 4800 Baud, autostart GPS by appilcation. In Live Search, I equally set it to COM0.
When is press the "centra on GPS", the righ hand side orange LED starts blinking, and the message inside Live Search is something like "retrieving GPS datat", but that's it. Nothing more happens.
I've also tried it with TomTom, but no result here either, other than the message "invalid GPS data".
I've called T-Mobile support to find out if there's anything on their side that needs doing, but apparently not.
So, I'm pretty stuck. Does anyone have an idea what I could try? Thanks!
First off, never ever go into the External GPS settings in the control panel. The general consensus around here is that it almost always requires a hard reset after messing with that. If you did, make sure it's set to COM4, 4800 baud.
Make sure your apps are set to COM4, 4800 baud. If that fails, a hard reset may be in order.
Why did you set it to COM0? Did someone tell you to do that?
I set it to to COM0 just to try SOMETHING.
I guess a hard reset is in order
So I just leave the GPS settings be and don't even touch them, yes?
Ok, so I've just done a hard reset.
The one and only thing I've done is install Live Search.
In the prefs of it, COM4 was automatically selected.
Hit "centre on GPS", with absolutely no reaction other than "Getting GPS position".
Any further thoughts? Hardware fault? Software issue?
The signal from GPS satellites is very low powered. ANY obstructions to the sky can cause a failure. My handheld Garmin GPSs and my Tilt will not get a lock in the house. Outside; buildings, trees, land masses and clouds all prevent a good lock. From my experiences with the Tilt, I have to get out into the open and wait 5-10 minutes or more for a lock.
Download the new google mobile maps and try that. It seems to get a fix quickly and doesnt time out as quickly as the older version (and some other gps enabled apps).
Cool, I got it to work. I left the device outside on the balcony for 10 minutes, and Live Search did lock in on me.
I now downloaded Google Mobile Maps, but couldn't locate a GPS function (I downloaded it from their website). Am I blind?
The thing that worked for me was to install GPS Viewer (freeware, you can Google it) and then open GPS from there. It takes about a minute to connect but then it stays on and interfaces with Tomtom very well. Prior to running it, please also download and run QuickGPS (it comes as loaded software with Kaiser, you may have to download it also as freeware, helps keep the connection steady; it is advised to download QuickGPS once a week, this is as long as its effect lasts, don't know why). The combination of QuickGPS and GPSViewer works very well.

Menu | Track Location
Hmm no, I dont have that menu item. Maybe I got an older version of it after all?
It's "Menu | Show My Location" on mine.
BTW, I saw a trick on another thread which worked very well for me. Enable the GPS Photo option (by using Kaiser Tweak or tweaking the registry) and open that first. It seems to get a fix very quickly. Once it's got one, you can close it and open any other GPS program like google maps and it tracks instantly. I also have QuickGPS installed and updated so that probably helps too.
After hard resetting twice, I have never run the QuickGPS program and I get a fix every time in less than a minute, even inside my house (by a window).
One program I highly recommend never using until it is updated is Map4PDA. It killed my GPS, requiring a hard reset.
Download GPS Test, run and confirm signal strength by satellite. That should solve your issue or at least answer the question of functionality.

My diamond GPS does not work

Hello,
I am trying since yesterday to make my GPS working, with no success. Everytime, I got the following message:
Cannot find port com. I do not know what the problem might be. I tried all Ports (from COM 0 to COM 12, and all Baud rates). Tried 3 differents GPS applications. Memory Map tells me for Port 0 GPS communication timeout...
In addition, I tried to play with the External GPS. I tried with Manage GPS automatically on and off. Still the same..
I begin to think my GPS unit is defective...
Any ideas would be appreciate.
Thanks very much in advance,
Philippe
did you change settings in the gps control panel?
the default settings can be left alone. COM4. Baud rate should be automatically handled and unless you enabled AGPS any baud rate will do, if you enabled AGPS then I think you have to use 2400 as your Baud.
I just noticed the GPS harddware port in setting, system External GPS is not saved when you click ente.
Exemple I choose COM4, and Baud rate: 4800. I click OK. When I reclick exernal GPS, Hardware, I have got ''none for GPS hardware port. I do not know if it might be one of the reason why the GPS does not work.
Note: I just flashed the new rom: 1.35.401.3 WWE. Might it be a bug in this ROM (just question?)
Philippe
I can cofirm TomTom working with COM4 and baud 57600. Signal pickup can be time hungry, tho. Sometimes I get a fix in 20 seconds, sometimes it takes as much as 10 minutes.
no problem using mapking...
Hello,
And thanks everybody for your help. I just updated to the new Elite 1 ROM, and now it works like a charm....Very good...
I do not know if there is many francophones on this forum, but there is a new french forum about the Diamond:
http://htc-touch-diamond.forumactif.info/index.htm
Not very busy yet, but....
Cheers,
Philippe
Same problem... The tomtom 6 don't detect my integrated gps... if i chose the wired and put ports like say before, it don't work too.. Any way for detect integrated gps?
Here are exactly my setting:
Setting system External GPS:
GPS program port: COM 4
GPS hardware port: None
Baud rate: 4800
Manage GPS automatically is checked.
So open your GPS program, choose COM Port 4, and baud rate: 4800.
Should work. If not, flashthe new Elite ROM. It could help too.
Philippe
I can't flash the rom, it will make the warranty expire... And the mobile isn't mine, it's destined to be selled, i work on a gsm shop...
got exactly opposite problem - when I leave these default settings in "External GPS" CPL, the Diamond will suck my batterry within several hours, as if the GPS was still ON. have found out that if I disable all settings in this CPL, it stops sucking power (but then I can't use the GPS, obviously) - any clues or solutions?
I HAD to enable Windows Mobile manages automatic in External GPS in 'settings'. Check if it is enabled.
Disabling it made GPS never work.
Strange?
Yes, unless I restored all settings to their original values (Virtual port - COM4, HW port - None, Managed access - checked), I was not able to use the GPS. But these were exactly the settings I was having the battery drain issue with... I miss the GPS LED indication vastly...
I am have this problerm too...
Solution : make hard reset.. no more!
And all will be ok ... about GPS.
i have same proplem
i have same proplem when i updat to the new rom 1.93
I have a similar Problem.
I Updates my ROM to the new branded one from O2-Germany and since then my GPS is not working anymore. in GPSMapware I get device.exe errors and TomTom7 keeps searching and searching and so on...
The old O2 ROM has no GPS problems and every software got a loc in about 10 - 20 seconds.
But the most intresting point is that my brother has a Diamond too and no GPS problems at all.
I think I will get a new one from O2 before flashing it and loose my warrenty
Telus CDMA Diamond
I've got problem too. First Diamond I had no problem with GPS, something happened with the phone I had to exchange, and new one (phone) GPS wouldn't pickup Sat. I'm on Telus CDMA. Maybe they removed physically on the second batch of Diamonds.
My GPS doesn't work too well either. I can usually get a fix eventually when outside with a clear view of the sky but in the car it is hopeless. I use TT7 and the GPS status screen shows that the Diamond can see maybe half a dozen satellites or so but with very low signal strength. The bars stay grey for ages and then eventually three or four will turn blue and all the time the battery is draining like crazy. I also have a Holux GPSlim 256 and with that I get a fix much faster and the signal strength is much higher. I can also use it in the car with no problem.
I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the GPS performance of the Diamond and from the number of posts in this forum from people with similar problems I would suggest that there is a design flaw or very poor quality control. I had an XDA Orbit 2 for a while and that was far superior.
Me too
my diamond have the same problem too.
it was working with the old rom's and the early new
but later with new rom's it is locked, I don't know why or how to fix it.
then I back to the last good one but still locked.
it seem's working fine, because the software is detect the gps device and also detect it on port 4 and baud speed, but without signal any more.
I used Garmin, Destenator, iGo, fanaeen, and gps test.
and I try to use all avaliable solutions
I used all diamond rom's here and used all radio version's even the hardspl I changed it too with no succeed.
any advice would be help!
thanks in advanced
Hi,
I own two diamonds and I also found problems with the GPS in both of them. Probably mine is not the same you are describing. What I get is the following:
Running TT7, the GPS works but TT7 map in the screen remains in grey color. Rarely it shows color for some seconds and l"oses signal" again. It navigates, but no messages on proximity of POIs work. Also, when driving, if TT7 is forced to recalculate (every time I do not follow the instructions), it forgets about the required destination. In the GPS configuration option within TT7 it does not show satellites, the bars are empty and the coordinates shown are grey... but showing values!
Finally, I found the reason. I use Bluefire VPN, a piece of software to connect securely to my company. The GPS and Bluefire cannot live together.
I have tried everything: TomTom 6, changing COM port (many combinations)for the GPS, A-GPS on and off... No way.
It worked perfectly in P3600. I tried many ROMS and pieces of software without problems but in the Diamond I haven't been able.
Perhaps the reason is some resident code of Bluefire. Don't know. In any case, if this is a case similar to any of you, my advice is the following:
Hard reset, install TT7 and maps and test the GPS. If it works, start installing software until it crashes.
In my case, the GPS is always dead after the soft reset required after the installation of Bluefire, and it works again after another soft reset once Bluefire is uninstalled.
Hope it helps and hope somebody can also help me solve this issue.
SOLVED
Hi guys
Here is my solution.
First you have to flash 1.13.25.24 radio rom sometimes it can be solve the problem. If not you must open your phone with Htc service manual and find gps coaxial cable and check it.Sometimes it can be pulled out.Mine antenna was unconnected and gps couldnot find any satellites.Sorry for my bad english.

[SOLVED] GPS has stopped working - wtf is going on...?

Over the last few days I have noticed that my GPS is not really working anymore. I'm not sure if this is a result of some software I've loaded or whatever, but I've noticed a few people saying that they are no longer locking onto satellites and noone is really sure what they've done - although there is a thread about the new Clove extended battery and many have mentioned that it stops the GPS from working.
I'd like to get everyone who is having problems to post here please so we can try and work out what the cause is. Some have speculated that it could be the radio but I don't think it is, I've flashed every single radio available with no change...
When I first got my diamond, I was IMPRESSED at the speed and accuracy of the GPS. I would get locks in around 10-15 seconds and using TomTom 7 I found it to be extremely accurate with regards to my position on the map.
Now it SUCKS. The other day I drove and it took 18 minutes to get a fix. When it finally did I estimate it was between 50m - 100m inaccurate. Some kind of lag is going on.
As of the last two days, I cant even seem to track ANY satellites. Since then, like I mentioned I have tried every radio and still the situation remains bad.
- I'm running a cooked ROM based on the 1.93.xx.x. (Elite 3.0)
- Current radio is .11 which seems to work well for my push email. (.05 worked well too) Other than that over the last couple of days its just been push email, a few texts and calls and really nothing else special I'm doing with the device.
Can anyone having the same problems please post here with your ROM version and let us know what your experiences are.
Thanks.

No.. Its just the GPS data thats used by the gps to get a quicker lock on the satelites.. Which then only saves you time.. It does not cost you anything besides the trafik it uses to update the data..

gps is for free, the "4 days" corresponds to the time which your device
has the almanach data for faster satellite lock in it's memory. after this time
quickgps will download the alamanach data for the next 7 days, and so on...
if you don't use this feature you still can use gps, but obtaining a fix will
take you a longer time!

I have noticed that it is also dependent on the Rom. I am into flashing different roms and have seen different behaviour of Gps with each rom.
But HARD reset is a must after each flash.
Let me know your findings.
Got my GPS working in TomTom..
Steps i took:
1: change in PPC the gps port to COM6 - So still at Baud 4800
2: TomTom - Gps configure - "Other NMEA GPS reciver" - Baud 4800 - "COM6"
3: Closed TomTom
4: changed in PPC the GPS port back to "COM4" - still baud 4800
5: TomTom - Gps configure - "Build in gps"
And done.
I have this problem- the GPS seems to get worse and worse after a hard reset or rom upgrade to the point where it won't lock on at all.
I have noticed that in TT7 a number of satellites are being found (in the gps menu)but they are greyed out. Despite this it just won't lock on however long i leave it.
I notized that I was sometimes unable to track any satellites because I swiched on "A-GPS" in the registry with some kind of editor. After switching it off the problem was gone.
Greetz
Yes, Advanced Config destroy your GPS if you use it to turn on A-GPS.
Try reflashing the Radio with the same build as you are using already. It resets the GPS and did the trick for me.
How can you turn on A-GPS in the registry? Which key is it?
I have the same problems: when I use the GPS, it finds some satellites and not, and back it finds them, and not. When I use tomtom 6, the screen turns grey and colored every 5 sec., because it finds the satellites and not.
Sometimes it works good, but mostly not.

There is a little tool which is called "HTC GPS TOOL(S)", dont remember the exact name.. there you can search for satelites using the "cold start" option.. when some satelites are found, then push the "Nav. Init." buttion", dont close the program, just start TomTom and se if it did lock? .. Some reported this method working..

I did things a little differently to yourself, but certainly your general method has solved the problem!
Firstly, and I don't know if this is a result of the radio version I'm running but I only have COM4 and COM7. Running radio .11
Secondly, within TomTom I simply configured the GPS, I changed to other NMEA receiver, selected COM4, and Baud 4800, and then within about 10 seconds, I had a lock. This is after days of not getting a lock at all.
Restarted TomTom, switched back to 'Internal GPS Receiver' and almost instantly locked again.
Problem solved!
I had done many ROM updates and not noticed this effect, I believe now thinking back this must have been a direct result of updating the radio only from version .03 to .05
I will update the thread title.

GPS problem with my tilt after flashing official 6.1 (already searched...)

OK, i've already searched the forum on this issue (went through all 12 pages of results for the words "tilt" and "gps", and while some others seem to have had this same problem, once they get down to the actual problem, the thread seems to end.
the problem is that ever since I upgraded my 6.0 wm version to 6.1 via the official att rom, my gps does not seem to work at all. and by this, I don't mean that I just can't get a lock on any satellites, but the gps itself doesn't seem to be working at all. i've loaded gpstest and after scanning through all the com ports (skipping com4 which is where it should be), it cannot find any gps device. I have downloaded the quickgps updates and the only other thing of note I would say is that I didn't load the att bloatware with the update. and because it started the moment I upgraded, I don't believe a hard reset would do much (would like to try everything possible beforehand so I don't have to reload everything)
now, if i have skipped the thread that gives the answer to this question, I would very much appreciate a link/response on this, as it's been bugging me for quite some time now. thanks in advance
Did you update the radio as well as the rom? Most 6.0 radios are not compatible with 6.1 roms. See the Ultimate Radio Thread for more info.
radio version is 1.65.21.18, and according to the wiki that should be a working radio for wm 6.1. lists this specific radio under the section "KAISER Radios These Radios were ripped from Kaiser WM6.1 ROMs. "
What program are you trying to use with for your gps? TomTom, Googlemaps?
I think I mastered getting a gps fix and I don't think you will have a problem if I help you.
Please provide
1) what gps application are you using
2) baud rate
3) are you using anything to open your gps port before you attempt to run the program?
4) did you change anything in external gps settings?

1.) well, initially i've just been trying to get gpstest to recognize the fact that i have a gps device at all, but i generally use google maps as my main gps program.
2.) for baud rate, i've been setting at 4800. admittedtly, i'm not sure what the baud rate does, but i've always read that that is the correct setting with few that say otherwise (i've tried multiple settings just to see if they work, they don't)
3.) i can't get anything TO open the gps port, as in gpstest skips com4 when searching for a device, google maps just times out trying to locate a signal (outside, clear view of the sky, before the upgrade i could get a signal sitting in my apartment on the first floor)
4.) i haven't changed anything from what it is at default (gps program port: com4, gps hardware port: none, baud rate: 4800, manage gps automatically is checked)
very much appreciate the help

sorry about the delay, I was at work and having issues posting a response with opera on this site because it stated I didn't have the proper tokens? No idea...
Anyhow, it appears you have all the right settings which is good. But you are definitely needing a better program to launch your gps. So stop using gps_test, as I offer you HTC_GPS_Tool, attached cab is at the bottom.
1) install cab to main memory
2) open googlemaps>menu>options>gps settings>set manually> com4 > Baud 4800 > click ok> menu select use gps
3) close googlemaps
4) open quickgps and download updates
5) open HTC_GPS_Tool>set com4> baud 9600 (yes 9600) > Click Open> "Hot Start" should be selected below it > let program run for about 45 seconds or more > DO NOT MINIMIZE OR CLOSE THIS APPLICATION BY CLICKING X OR OK
6) open googlemaps by going to start menu as it is the only option to select the application with GPS_Tool open (unless of course you have a hardware button shortcut for it)
7) You should have no issues getting a gps fix on googlemaps within 30-40 seconds for the first time.
8) However if you do receive issues restart this process and at Step 2 change Baud to 9600 in google maps but it shouldn't be necessary. These steps shouldn't be necessary everytime you want to open your gps port. However, if you encounter issues you have HTC_GPS_TOOL to help you. Always remember to update your quickgps outdoors if you plan on using it. Finally, leave your external gps settings alone.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask via pm or back in this thread, that is if mods don't lock it because your question was answered?
i just got done following all of the instructions (i already had htc gps tool installed in my quest to find something that works), and google maps came back and said that no gps receiver was found, even after setting the settings manually exactly as you said.

it was enabled, just disabled with kaisertweak and am going to try the process once again
ok, we're making progress now lol. after disabling agps, htc gps tool started to actually give me scrolling text like it was working as opposed to the dialog box being completely empty. I goto open google maps, and at first get the same "gps device not found" message, but then for kicks I changed google maps to get gps settings from windows, and now it's past the initializing gps and is finally seeking satellites now. it might be because of a cloudy day today, but neither gps tool or google maps has gotten an actual fix on any satellites
thanks very much for the help so far, can't believe i didn't think of something so obvious to try
just went to grab some lunch, figured i'd try to get a fix on the way, google maps by itself got a fix in less than 5 seconds. thank you very much for taking the time to help me out, i am in your debt
