Hey everyone
Basically Im wanting to change the housing/fascia on my Vario III to the TyTN II housing and was just wondering if anybody has any experience doing this and how easy/difficult it was?
Been searching the net for tutorials on how to do it but so far found nothing!
Also the only place i can find to buy the housing in the UK is ebay but i dont have a paypal account so paying for this would be difficult so would rather use somewhere that i can just use my debit card to pay for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciatted.
Regards
Jamzi
For realz yo.. Paypal be de most easiest ting to setup.
Is the Vario that ugly? I have taken a tilt apart (a friends dog chewed on the thing) and I would say that it's not worth doing unless you really need to.
I've swapped mine to a standard HTC case from a rather scuffed vodafone branded one. I decided to just replaced the front cover around the screen and the battery cover as the main body was fine and I really couldn't be bothered to strip the motherboard out.
Although now I've bought a seido slim case you can't see it anyway, but least it looks better if I want to sell it.
Unless yours is really bad its not really worth it but fairly easy to do if your quite used to that sort of thing and have the right tools.

why change...???? the buttons on the Vario 3 are the best!!! just gently scratch away the T-Mobile logo with a scalpel, if that`s what you don't like.
I did that and it lookes great.
EDIT: Picture
Re
why didnt you bought a unbranded tytn in the first place...
it looks a little bit like car tuning, someone figures out his 1,1 liter engine is to small and decide to swap it with a 2.0 liter engine. at the end the cost are higher than buying a 2 liter in the fiirst place....
just scrap off the logo, flas a wwe rom on it and go. I think the cost and risk of damaging your fone are a lot higher then selling and rebuy a normal tilt...
I'll buy your vario III housing
id buy it as well, PM if you may want to trade or something. BTW: I have the OEM TyTn II Housing in great shape.

hi there
i just got myself a Wallaby to experiment with the PPC world and so far have been enjoying it greatly.
the thing is, the Wallaby that i got has crack and scratches and i un really like it. as such i would like to buy a new casing.
i tried doing searches and pm-ing those who sold cases but did not get a reply. i guess the information could have been outdated.
as such i would like to ask if there is any place that i can get an XDA casing. i live in singapore and would thus appreciate a site/person who does international shipping if it is located overseas.
also while we're on the topic of replacement, are there any good sites/members selling other accessories as well?
looking forward to your replies. thank you so much in advance.
i got extra casing 1
i got slightly use casing. minor scratch. [email protected] email me if intersted. i send piccture
you can also try contacting the company that repackaged it like mine is from I-Mate, yours may be from O2 you can contact them and they will charge but replace it, I was given a price of $85.00 for them to replace my PDA2K housing and a new battery.
I broke the lcd screen on my XDA IIi , does anybody know where to get a new one , and how to install it

I got the screen from here, http://www.runpda.com/ , it cost £93.00
including shipping. But I got stung by customs for £38.00 Tax, rip-off, so it cost me £131.00 in total. I've bought from this part of the world (Asia) before and not been charged by taxman, its just the luck of the draw.
Someone suggested this place in the UK, but I had already ordered, if anybody tries this one, post costs etc for everyone. Mobile Repair Centre in London. 177a North end road 0207 610 3103.
I used this manual to open case, all the instructions are ok,
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Himalaya/Himalaya-Service-Manual/
The only bit that is confusing is the opening of the black plastic cover, basically follow manuals instructions to open cover by pen holder side, then slid a thin piece of plastic in the gap and slid along (I made a plastic tool from cutting a thickish plastic bottle). In the picture it looks like you place it in the SD slot, this is not the case, just slid along the edge of the gap you have created by the pen holder.
i havn t pay Tax, you must tell to runpda, please write GIFT on the package
I've recently got on Xplore 1.1 and started upgrading my phone. By the looks of it, an O2 XDA Trion seems to be unlikely (availability and also some new developments) to reach my hands. I am considering getting a replacement fascia from eBay but am not sure which I should get and why. My phone works very well with the exception that the stylus is falling out (fixed temporarily by using the paper bag trick) and a few falls left the fascia chipped and scratched. The primary D-pad,call keys and soft keys seem a little dirty but they don't look too bad.
I am looking at this full housing which is at 40 pounds, and this A-grade (does this mean brand new or what?) housing without the d-pad and surrounding keys for almost 30 pounds.
Truthfully, I don't want to spend a lot but I am hesitant to send my device back as it works a treat (ht545 G3 unit so I doubt 4GB SD works but I never actually filled an entire GB so at worst I might get a San Disk High Speed 2GB mini SD later on). I am also intending to obtain a full Invisible shield for the wizard as it seems to be damn near impossible to find a black silicone case for the wizard (without the unbreakable screen cover; I just want to slap on a brando protector like the one I have on now).
So which of those two should I get and what the hell is A-grade?
I Bought a dummy wizard phone for 10$,
It worked just fine, all the part are exctly the same....
(i bought it from ebay , so try to have a look....)
good luck
Tom
Well that's a great idea but what do you call them exactly? I can't find such things?

Yep they are called exactly that - Dummy Phones
Granted this is on the ebay us site, but it may help you out. They are cheap so maybe it would be less een with shipping than buying from a shop in the uk.

Good idea but I think the housing of a dummy is glued. If not, then i would be interested on buying a HTC Wizard dummy (I dont like the cingular )

I bought a dummy phone thinking I'd be able to use the housing. Unfortunately I was wrong. There are numerous reasons why the one I've got wouldn't work: it's glued, but buttons don't all work, the mini-SD slot isn't cut through, etc.
If anyone would like the one I wasted my money on and you're willing to pay postage let me know.
Well, this morning I was searching for dummy phones and the only one I found was in Germany for around 30 Euros...thanks for the heads up that it won't work; you just save me from a major headache.
So once again, it boils down to the question which of those two I originally linked would be worth it (I sure as hell have no idea what A-grade means...should I ask the seller or...)?
A-Grade probably means premium quality...

Well that item is actually gone and I found these two off eBay as well...
this for around 28 pounds - original O2 Housing (says "EXCELLENT CONDITION ALL ROUND. LIKE BRAND NEW" so probably not brand new).
this for around 29 pounds which looks like a fake or at least is missing the O2 logo and is said to be 95% new (What's that mean?)
I don't have a T6 which the second one comes with and the first guy will throw in for an extra 2.99 - making both approximately the same price. So is the saving of 10 pounds, when compared with the brand new housing listed earlier, worth it?
Also found this keypad (d pad, soft key, call key and email) for another 10 pounds almost but as I only have one little ding...I doubt I need it.
EDIT: After a lot of thought, I am going to order from the guy above who has the XDA mini S cover (with O2 logo) and toss in 2.99 for the T6 screw driver as well). I am also going to get the black silicone case with that unbreakable cover. I just hope I'm making a good investment. As all in all, it'll cost me around 40 pounds (with the protector and all).
Now the only thing bugging me is how do I transfer the stickers and warranty labels cleanly?
I have a tilt that has a cracked screen and housing, other than that it works fine. I just had it replaced by AT&T so now I would like to sell the old one. It was only 3 weeks old when it broke (dog bit down on it once) and everything but the housing and screen are mint.
My question is; where is the best place to sell the tilt for parts? I really don't want to go through the ebay hassle for $100.
Thanks for the info...
Jeff
I am interested in buying it, would you pm me pictures of it?
Ok, so I wanted the damn Fender edition MyTouch 3G, but I had to nag a certain boyfriend to get off his butt and order it (since our T-Mobile account is in his name) for weeks, and by the time I got him to do it it was out of stock.
I've been watching ebay, but new in box ones go for $300-400, and that's a bit steep for me. However, I saw someone selling the Fender edition housing and chassis and shipping from Hong Kong, and T-Mobile is selling the MyTouch 3.5mm for $50 with contract at the moment, so I figured what the hell, I'd trade in my old Wing (Which has been acting flaky for a while now) and get a standard MyTouch 3G 3.5mm version, get the Fender housing, and voila, I have the phone I want!
So I've gone ahead and ordered both and only now realized I don't know for sure how to do the replacement.
I know there are threads about Magic housing replacements, but the Magic and the MyTouch have different housings. I'm assuming the MyTouch 3.5mm should work perfectly with the Fender edition housing since the 3.5mm is basically the Fender edition without the Fender branded housing.
But has anyone done this specific replacement? Is there a walk through or video somewhere?

if your boyfriend is to lazy to drive to t-mobile then he is gonna be to lazy to swap the housings, and if you attempt it yourself you'll probably break the phone so your you should just stick to the phone you got from t-mobile and not swap them.
I'm not sure why you would think I intended to have my boyfriend do the replacement. I intend to do it myself, and have from the beginning.
My housing still hasn't arrived, but it should do so soon. The seller gave a shipping time estimate of 7-15 business days. When I do the replacement I will take pictures and post a walkthrough, since no one else seems to have done so. I build my own computers, and have done some electronics work (I fixed my DVD player when one of the capacitors in its internal power supply died, by desoldering and removing the old capacitor and soldering in an equivalent replacement) so I figure I can probably handle this.

ok well good luck on the screen. let me know how it works out for ya.
Seems like you are a tech geeky gf. Anyway, just buy a set of security screw mini bit set. Cause for the phone on most smart phone uses either mini or macro security screws. Get a set from home depot. What I am worry is, I ran across two interior hardware setup for both fenders and mytouch 3.5mm edition while cleaning the interior of my phones. (Got a ass sister like to drop in washing machines ).
What I meant is, your case you order maybe off set on some screw holes or just do no fit.
You might notice those housing are not Genuine housing partz. Maybe more flimsy and break easier.
sent from myTouch 3g 1.2 using XDA app
Well, as you can see here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150485093942
The kit comes with a set of tools, which I'm assuming should cover things. Otherwise I do have a bunch of electronics screwdrivers laying around somewhere. Honestly from the looks of the kit and how complete it is (Assuming it's not just a total scam) my guess is that whatever company in China or Taiwan they have producing service kits for T-Mobile is selling them out the back door.
It could be a cheap knock-off of course, but it doesn't seem to be. I guess I'll see when it comes, along with whether or not the screw holes line up. At worst I can always rebay it, and it was only $27 anyway. I think I can download a service manual for my phone from T-Mobile that includes disassembly and re-assembly instructions.
And yes I'm something of a geek, or at least I'm good with my hands. I make furniture. Since all the nice custom OEM docking stations and car docks for the MyTouch seem to have long since sold out and been discontinued, I'm thinking of getting a block of burl wood of some sort, and a set of mini USB connectors, and carving my own. It would match the dash in my Town & Country better that way anyway. Plus if the design worked out I could sell them

not trying to be mean, but you do understand how it works swapping out the housings?
it'll be easy taking the back part off, after that the screen will not be easy, and really time consuming if even possible. there is a digitizer glued onto the housing, so unless your capable of removing the digitzer successfully, and reapplying it in working order i wouldn't suggest it.
Well, several other people have posted that they have swapped their housings successfully, so I'm hopeful.
Finished a couple days ago (Been having too much fun with it to post about it). It wasn't very hard. Only separating the screen from the faceplate was even a little bit tricky, and that was no big deal.
The sapphire service manual PDF from HTC that you can find on these forums is all you need, and most of the steps on it aren't even needed.
I was going to make a walkthrough, but when I went to take it apart I realized my phone is my only camera, and I didn't want to wait for my boyfriend to get home from work so that I could use his phone.
The only real annoyance was that the housing kit I got from ebay didn't have the little clear plastic piece that goes across the hole in the battery cover that the camera snaps pictures through, or the mesh looking thing that covers the speaker port. But I got out my hobby knife kit, which had a tool in it that was perfect for peeling those things off my old battery cover, and the adhesive from that stuck to the new battery cover fine, so that took care of that.
Oh, if anyone wants a stock black MyTouch 3G faceplate and battery cover, I'll sell 'em cheap
Hope to see at least pics, I'd love to do this on my 1.2 as well, dirt and dust is too easy to see on my stock black housing xD
