New to the HTC brand - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

HI all,
I am a complete noobie when it comes to the HTC brand. I have been with HP (3800, 5400 & 6900) for the past 6 years or so. I just purchased a HTC TyTN II P4550 last week and I am really enjoying this PDA phone. As with all my previous HP models I want to make sure that I am getting the best out of the unit and therefore would appreciate any help from the wisdom and experience of all of you. I am going to list the stats for my unit and if anyone can suggest or recommand how to improve its performance I would be greatful.
Rom ver: 1.82.707.0 WWE
Rom date: 11/03/07
Radio ver: 1.27.15.32
Protocol ver: 22.51.88.13H
Model No.: Kaiser
WM 6 Professional
CE OS 5.2.1620 (18125.0.4.2)
Thanks to all in advance.
Adrian

start by reading kaiser wiki. it has all the information u need as far as modifying ur device goes.
if u r going to be flashing roms to ur device than also read about hardspl and sticky in rom development forum.
other than that welcome to xda and happy exploring

I would recommend you learn to know your device first. When you feel you know the device well enough, you can start thinking of flashing a custom ROM to your Kaiser.
Surely if want to get the most out of your device with the best performance, custom ROMs are ideal. They usually (always?) offer better performance than stock ROMs. Flashing custom ROMs will allow you to customize your device in every way you want.

Newbie If I have ever seen one

ALright guys I have been reading for the last 4hours and searching different discussed topics.
The phoneis an MDA that had water damage and the main board was replaced with the qtek 9100. (WIZA200)it is running a ROM version 1.6.7.1WWE ane ExtROM version: 1.6.7.101 I want to upgrade but I'm not sure to what. I have read of ROM upgrades and Radio this and version that, I am a newbie and the last thing that I want is to "brick" my phone. I also would NOT like to try any Beta or trial stuff.
What is a Rom version?
What is a Radio?
IPL/SPL: ?
WHat do I need to upgrade to?... I would like to possibly maximize my reception, My carrier is Cingular.
ANY and ALL input is greatly appreciated.

New, what should i upgrade my p3600 to (if any)

Hey there, i am using an HTC p3600 (trinity) for about 2 months now
i have the following firmware:
ROM version: 1.23.405
Radio version: 1.38.00.11
ExtROM version: 1.23.405.103
my main problems is the occasional hanging of the phone
my media card being unusable from media player from time to time until deleting the WMDRM and MSMETADATA folders, and a slow GPS lock time.
would you recommend me to update my ROM? and if so to what ROM?
Is it recommended to upgrade to WM6 (I'm not that hyped about it)
my p3600 is American.
I would recommend upgrading to reading mode. (ABR mode is still a little buggy and produces unpredictable results).
Your question has been answered so many times here.
Anyway. WM6 faster. More functionality. - which ROM? depends on your needs.
Set aside some time. Read. Flash. try before you buy - and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the upgrade. (Go with a cooked ROM - the WIndows Mobile 6 for Trinity page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359)
Some (but not all (some of the best are missing IMHO) ROMS for your Trintiy here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
what does reading/ABR mode mean?
and whats the best ROM to upgrade to?
can i upgrade without loosing all my software installs?
also, whats the best ROM if i want to stick with WM5?
Dimmmmmm

Hey, thats not that nice man,
you can just enlighten me with some sentences.
or a link maybe.
Sorry for being new in this business, but I'm sure Its something you can tell me about
rather then telling me to read for a couple of hours.

Asking Before Reading mode. was a joke. It makes the information easier to find if people read relevant threads - (where often the answer to their question can be found) - and if necessary ask a question in a relevant thread (or one where the same question has been asked even)
By creating a new thread to ask this age old question - read what people have already contributed first.
To give you a head start - Best ROM is the one that does what you want on your device. I would say for a WWE ROM (World Wide English) any of AX3L, mUn (Indogo), LVSW, bepe (sticky thread in the Trinity mobile 6 forum), PDAVIET, dopod WM6 ROMs are faster than WM5 and all OK (well the dopod one's not so clever). Threads with info for all these ROMs is available in the Trinity mobile 6 forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359
You cannot upgrade ROM without losing your sofware installs (and anything else on the Trinity's memory).
And if you're sticking to WM5 don't bother flashing.

And always start here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Trinity. If you don't know that one then you're lost.
Great
Great, Thanks alot

Diamond newbie

Hi there one thing I want to say is thanks to all you guys for this forum its been great reading.
I wanted to confirm that I have a Diamond through T-mobile, UK, and currently running
ROM: 1.37.110.3 WWE
ROM DATE: 6/20/08
RADIO: 1.00.25.03
PROTOCOL: 52.26a.25.09U
Looking through the forum there are plenty of ROM versions there. The HTC website won't support the DL of 31-7-08 ROM with the serial I have, which I think is down to T-mobile.
Can you guys point me in the direction of the best radio and ROM for my version of the Diamond.
Sorry to be a pain but I'm confused at all the version at present
Many thanks
Best Radio would be 1.00.25.05 0r 06 to some.
Best ROM depends upon the user. I prefer lite ROMs always as I like to customize the rest my own way. So far, Im stuck to Bepe' eLite 0.97 version! Most stable yet I believe..
Regards,
Carty..
So it seems to get one that best suits your individual needs.
Many thanks
I got my diamond through t-mobile and the best thing ive ever done with the device is getting rid of the t-mobile software that slows the handset to a stop.
Im currently using radio version .07
and have tried both swiftbl 5.0 and duttys 1.6 roms
vast vast improvement on either rom compared to t-mobiles stock rom

Is there anyway of getting hold of the t-mobile stock as I am wary with my technical expertise that I will 'fudge' the fist flashes up and need to reload the stock ROM.
I have read that it can be dumped from a reading of the phone but apprently it needs to be reconstructed!!!!
This is where I got completely lost!
Cheers

The stock t-mob ROM is floating about on the diamond forums somewhere if you ever need it. Just make sure you flash Hardspl and you'll be fine.
I have got the Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex but cant tell you a version number as it does not seem to be on there.
Basically with the HardSPL flashed the Diamond will reset and carry on with the ROM it has until you flash a different one, and the same for the radio?
Thanks for your help
pretty much yeah
check out http://modmydiamond.info
for me bepe Rom it's very good.
about radio for me 1.00.25.07 it's better than 1.00.25.05

Need help deciphering rom info and such

So, about a month ago, I got my first cell phone - a moto q global (att). Then, this tuesday, I traded it in for the tilt.
I am very happy with this phone - I love the touch screen, the wifi, the developer base, and all the other nice features (combined with the unlimited data, of course )
Today, I borrowed my dad's laptop (my computer runs gentoo), and hard-spl'd (using the alternative "screen went white" directions) the phone, and flashed the HTC rom from here.
Device information sez:
ROM version: 3.28.405.0 WWE
ROM date: 05/02/08
Radio version: 1.65.16.25
Protocol version: 25.83.40.02H
First of all, did I pick the right rom? Is there a more up-to-date rom? Can someone explain the advantages of dutty's rom?
And I'm hearing a lot about this "radio"... this is the rom for the cellular radio itself? What version should I be using? How do I change versions? From where do I get these radio roms?
Finally, is there an easy way to sim-unlock my phone for free? Not necessary, but would be nice for later.
Thanks for any advice/tips,
poly-p man
Hi Welcome.
Let me nicely answer your questions. But You should read the Forum Rules. Mostly the answer is out there, just need to search for it.
1) I do not allow people to say what ROM is the best. Not because we are fascists, but because it is subjective. Also, "newest" is also subjective. Look around in the ROM Dev forum and find one that looks good and try them out.
2) You Radio is the "ROM" for the Cellular Part. There is an Ultimate Radio thread out there. Check it out.
3) There is a Kaiser Unlocker out there. They are free to use, but consider Donating to the developers.
4) Check out the Links in my Signature they will give you LOTS of answers.

Which Rom and Radio To Download

Hi Guys,
Im new to the forum.
I have just purchased the HTC HD... I'm in South Africa... We get stuff very late here.
I would like to update my Rom and Radio but not sure which on to choose.
Currently:
Rom: 1.14.421.5 (25590) WWE
Rom date: 12/10/2008
Radio: 1.09.25.14
Protocol: 52.49a.25.26W
And my serial number has GK... So which region does it belong to...
Thanks in Advance
I have a feeling this might get locked/deleted, as I don't think they like people comparing the ROMs as a lot is down to personal choice. For me I wanted a nice fluid, fast ROM and I've settled with Davideuck V2 after trying many. Very nice.
Radio ROM's I'm just testing, as far as battery life. I can't say I tell much difference between the 3 current offers though...
Thanks for the reply....
I'm not asking people to compare ROMS I'm asking if I can download any Rom and any Radio version or are they specific for a country like on the HTC site.
once you have hard SPLed the device you can do what ever you want with it, which includes RADIO and ROMs, what you choose is your choice and since we cant give you advice on ROMS so as not to offend any cooks feelings we cant give you any help in choosing which one is best for you, however i have been using Duttys 1.7 to 2.1 for quite a while and felt rthem wonderful ROMs, 2.2 im running now is somewhat buggy but with a bit of work it looks very promising and will be running on my device in the future.
oh if your device is SIM locked you will need to change that too if you want to use a different carrier.
