Method to Identify CID Lock Setting? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

A quick search of the wiki and kaiser forums didn't find anything related to this so here goes...
I have a gray market Kaiser bought about 1 yr ago and it came with a 1.81.707 WWE ROM installed. The Network Wizard displays countries such as Australia, India, HK, Singapore, etc. so I'm guessing the phone was originally targeted for sale in that area of the world.
I recently tried to upgrade to the official 6.1 WWE ROM, but the install failed with a message about the ROM not matching the phone. I'm assuming the phone has been CID locked so it won't work with the new WWE ROM and I'd like to know what official ROM would actually work with this phone.
Is there any non-permanent method of finding out what the CID Lock is currently set to? A couple of the unlocker apps appear to provide this facility however I'm only interested in using official ROMs with this phone. Therefore I haven't run any of the SIM/CID/SPL utilities available in the other Kaiser forums.

You need to read the Wiki and make sure you HardSPl before any flashing is done, I would also recommend you get it sercurity unlocked. All this information can be found in the Wiki.

Thanks for the pointer to the wiki and on HardSPL. After watching the forums for the past couple of years and reading the wiki I'm well aware of the recommendations around flashing new unofficial ROMs.
However my question is slightly different. I'm trying to find out if it is possible to find out what the CID lock setting for the phone is without having to load HardSPL or one of the other related unlock tools.
Any ideas are appreciated.

As far as I know it can only be done with these apps. OliPro has a SIM/CID unlocker that you can use. You dont have to unlock the handset if you dont want to but it will show you the current CID code. Hope this helps

T-mobile Vario (SIM unlocked) upgrade to i-mate ROM (orig)

Hi all.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I did a search and could not find any info on this.
I have a t-mobile vario (sim unlocked - using Lokiwiz02). Shop told it couldn't be done, but quite a few of you clever people had already done it, so I did too. All went well, it's now sim free!
However, I prefer the i-mate ROMs and have already got the original i-mate ROM installer ready to go.
Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, is it a straight forward procedure (regular way of upgrading a ROM), or is there anything specific I would have to do and what, if any, are the risks?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Used the Lokiwiz tool but typed "c " at the prompt instead of u and I was able to flash after. Otherwise I got the vendor ID wrong error

I have currently the following:
IPL 2.25
SPL 2.25
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.25.11.1
I am a self proclaimed newb when it comes to cell phone mods, however i've started to research on this site and read a few of faria's and other people threads. I have come to the conclusion i'd like to test out summiters AKUv2.3 ROM, however from what im reading it seems since my phone is NOT CID locked i can not first downgrade to unlock the CID (needing what i believe is an <v2.21) to then flash the rom to his custome rom. although i also saw where someone said they used a cingular shipped rom to downgrade their phone, i believe my phone originally came with v1.18. my other option is to return this phone to the carrier and get another phone which would ship with the v.1.18 or whatever it was and then i can follow faria's thread..
am i correct? or is there the ability to downgrade with my current setup
Thank you, great site, loads of info
If your phone is CID locked (and it is CID locked by default unless you have unlocked it) upgrading to the 2.25 ROM has prevented you from using the free tools on this site to do the unlock.
If you want to CID unlock you will have to pay for the http://imei-check.co.uk service. It claims to do both a SIM and CID unlock and is currently the only known way to CID unlock ROMs that are version 2.21 and higher. If you wait, a free solution will no doubt come out but if you want it now, it's going to cost you £20/$40.
Once the Wizard is CID unlocked you can flash any Wizard ROM you choose to it.

You'll want to flash to the original shipping rom which is on the xda-dev ftp at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
Once that's installed, use awizard or lokiwiz to CID unlock. And once that's done, flash to whichever ROM floats your boat.
Post back here if you run into any snags and can't resolve it reading through the existing messages.
Are you an AIX admin?
ahh yes im now finding on the ftp server
Cingular_RUU_1.8.11.1.WWE.ship.exe
yes linux/UNIX guru (AIX, FreeBSD, SUSE, etc) & phone noob, go figure..
im seeing conflicting statements here, 1 saying i can just downgrade to my shipped rom, the other saying i cant.
i received the phone yesterday, read up on some of the apps to try out, saw the new rom out, decided to try that out, did a soft reset on cingular extrom and then well have what i have, now i wanted to play a little more and test other peoples roms out and yet with no CID lock which would be the default i was under the impression i was SoL.. is that not correct? JUST to reverify with conflicting reports
after doing some more research i'm not sure which way is the accurate position, i read on one forum that there is a locking done once you go past the v2.21 rom so you cant downgrade to then Cid unlock, but then i've read other places you can, im downloading the v1.8.11.1 file and i guess ill find out soon enough

Try it, the worst that will happen is that you get an error saying that you can't flash an older Rom (than what is already installed).
well the update (downgrade to v1.8 shipped rom from 2.25) util is at 75% atm, .. will update accordingly....
ok well it ran the "downgrade" with no problems, i soft reset on the cingular apps, and when the system boots back up i get the following:
IPL = 1.08
SPL = 2.25
GSM = 1.09.11
OS = 1.8.11.1
so from what ive read on the forums i think it's a good thing i asked them to overnight me a new phone due to faulty reception (which is true it doesn't get the reception a buddies gets)..because i would assume with the SPL at > 2.25 i wouldnt be able to unlock the CID, correct?

OS Version??

I have applied the ROM's from Molski AKU 3.0.0 and have the newest radio 2.61 but when I boot it says that I have OS version 1.8.11.1 is that correct or is there a newer version. Also can someone outline the most stable of WM6 ROM's and maybe even links to there locations.
TIA

No, I don't believe that is the proper OS version contained in Molski's ROM.
Do you have a G3 or G4?
If you have a G3 did you follow EVERY step in the Definitive Guide to Unlocking and Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards sticky post?
If you have a G4 did you go to the IMEI website (not sure of exact address but it is all over the forum) and CID unlock your phone? (This is the only currently known way to CID unlock a G4 device, using the G3 method will brick your phone)
If you are NOT CID unlocked you cannot install a custom ROM, you will only be able to install Official Roms released by your carrier. The phone may go through the steps and look like it is working but nothing will be overwritten and you will reboot with your previous rom, possibly with settings and data loss.
As far as WM6 roms go, scan the headlines of the first couple pages and you can find that answer for yourself by reading the ROM specific threads. Every user has different wants and needs and as such everyone will have different opinions about which ROM is "the Best' or "Most Stable". Note that all AKU 3.3 and WM6 roms have issues in one form or another, they haven't been released by carriers yet because they aren't stable. Read the threads to see if the known issues affect whether or not upgrading to one of them would be a good move for you.
As always if you aren't prepared for your device to be ruined you shouldn't be flashing at all. Granted flashing is relatively safe if you follow the proper steps for your specific device, most people like to jump in with both feet and skip they highly important part about reading and educating yourself first. I am not accusing you of doing this, but since your question seems to directly relate to an unlocking issue...
OK I have CID Unlocked as I am using a cingular 8125 on T-mobile without issue and I beleive it did flash correctly as I get the molski splash screen and the IPL/SPL were upgraded just not the OS. I have been doing ROM upgrades on other platforms of devices like the razor and the IPAQ H6315 so I think this is working correctly. I also was able to upgrade the radio from 2.?? to 2.47.1 to 2.61.1 without issue.
Am I Missing something. I used the lokiwiz ver 3a to unlock it.
Thanks for the feedback. Like I said I am not new to the upgrading just new to this platform(HTC Wizard)

Yes you did something wrong....If the OS won't flash you're not CID-unlocked! Follow the sticky post by the letter (it mentions version 2b, not 3a). And make sure you have a G3 before downgrading. For G4 look at G4 section.

you only need to SIM unlock to use a cingular phone on TMobile.
SIM unlock DOES NOT EQUAL CID unlock.
CID unlock allows you to flash non carrier ROMS into your phone.
Also Lokiwiz 2b is the recommended version for unlocking. I have read where people using other versions said it was successful when it actually wasn't. They tried using 2b and had success.
you guys are great I did follow the insturctions with the correct version and it worked like a charm. Now on to flashing WM6.

What version of WM6 are you going to work with?

Looking for any old TMobile ROMS

Hows it going guys this is my first post....ive had so many problems since switching to cingular with my tmobile MDA its hillarious!...i unlocked the MDA...got it too work with Cingular! I thought everything was perfect untill i realized i couldnt receive any text messages from any other carriers. Meaning if i used my cousins cingular phone to text my phone it would work....if i used my sprint phone...nothing would reach my phone...so i serched n applied all kind of cingular MMS GPRS settings .CAB files still nothing. If i put my SIM into an offical cingular phone the same thing happens...so now im hoping if i put the cingular rom on my phone it will make things better.. I need to downgrade first because every CID tool i use wont work but i found out its because i have 2.25 so basically does anyone have an old 1.XX offical T-Mobile ROM backed up anywhere or know how i can receive all text messages from all carriers?? Thanks
welcome...and in the future if you take a few minutes to read the stickies and wiki, you may very well get your answer.
the following link is to a sticky which links to button's 1.05 rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435
well thanks for the help but when i try installing that rom it locks up at 98% everytime and gives me an error....is this becaise of that CID thing is still locked????
Did you follow that tutorial step by step??? I had no problems with the button rom so I am not sure. I myself followed that tutorial when I recently unlocked my MDA and it went without a hitch...make sure you run lokiwiz twice and button twice. Not sure what else to tell you...sorry.

No, the Button rom is for the purpose of unlocking and is a really low IPL/SPL which was before the CID locking stuff was around.
I've read on another post that someone was having problems flashing the button rom like you are, and they were finally able to flash it by changing their radio rom first (I don't know if they had one of the newer radio's or what). Doesn't make sense to me as I've never seen that before, but what they heck, you could try downgrading to like the 2.19 T-Mo UK radio to see if that helps.
Also, have you tried flashing the T-Mobile 2.26 rom to your phone? Since this is an MDA and you are running Cingular 2.25 it sounds to me like you were already CID Unlocked (and you don't have to downgrade again to switch carrier roms, just switch).
It also is best to remove your sd card when doing the downgrading procedure.

Lots of research done, nearly ready to start. Some questions...

Will be receiving a HTC TyTN II. It will be Orange branded and sim locked.
I understand the first thing will be to install Hard SPL.
1. Now, I read somewhere that HTC haven't released any official ROMs of their own with Windows Mobile 6.1. Why is it that the Shipped ROMs wiki page has them here?
2. Whether or not they are HTC's own 6.1 ROMs, there are three I'm willing to try. They are (and I'm just copying and pasting these from the Shipped ROMs wiki page):
3.03.405.0 (Radio 1.64.06.04) updated original WWE found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365047
3.02.405.0 (Radio 1.58.26.20) original WWE found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365068
3.28.405.0 (Radio 1.65.16.25) original HTC WWE (World Wide English) found here http://rapidshare.com/files/1170540....0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.zip
These three seem to be "original" HTC Windows Mobile 6.1 ROMs. All are worldwide English. So what's the difference between each? Should I simply assume the one with the higher version number is the better one?

Thanks for confirming for me. I can't check the e-Club yet as I will be getting the phone maybe tomorrow. Anyhow, I really just want the original (and latest if possible) HTC Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM. Which should I pick form the list in the original post. Is one of them the same as the current one on HTC's e-Club?

Thanks. Yup, I found 3 that seem to be HTC originals. Don't know how up to date they are with HTC's e-Club but they should do. From the three I have found below, I'm assuming the higher version is the latest (3.28.405.0), but why does the Shipped ROMs Wiki page not just delete the other 2 and keep the latest one?
Here are the 3 I found:
3.03.405.0 (Radio 1.64.06.04) updated original WWE found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365047
3.02.405.0 (Radio 1.58.26.20) original WWE found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365068

Question 1: Which should I go for, the one I'm assuming as the latest (3.28.405.0), or are all three completely different things?
Question 2: Do these HTC ROMs include all the bundled HTC software that would normally come on an original HTC TyTN II Kaiser?
I'd really like these 2 questions answered before I try the upgrade.

Hope this helped in some way. The best way to find the best ROM/Radio is to try them all and see what suits you the best.
Just remember that you will need to unlock the phone too, otherwise installing a new radio (which is needed for WM6.1) will lock your phone and require an unlock code. There is free software on this site to do that for you. Just follow it to the letter and try and use sim cards that are not sim code locked (which i done and had so many problems getting it unlocked)
If it arrives soon you have a very good chance it will have 6.1. If not there is a 6.1 update for download on the Orange UK 6.1 thread. With this you wouldn't have to 'crack' it and invalidate any warranty?
This is what I did and then load the cabs you want. I think every htc cab you could ever need is in here.

I think we are referring to Security unlocking. This process ensures that you phone cannot become bricked by installing the latest radios from HTC that have extra security. Without security unlock you cannot downgrade these radios without a tool called FrankenKaiser.
I'd recommend Sec Unlock for every user, It can be re-locked later if need be.
Thanks
Dave
Yes but the Orange UK phones are radio locked too, which requires the phone to sim unlocked and HardSPL installed to (To prevent Bricking)

Thank you all for your replies.
The phone will have Windows Mobile 6.1 on it, but it's Orange branded with Orange's bloatware. I would prefer just installing the default HTC ROMs. It's also going to be SIM locked to Orange (I confirmed all this before purchase). But, buying the Orange one also worked out cheaper for me.
Question 1:The first thing I'm going to try is SIM unlocking it, while keeping the Orange ROM as it is. Then I'll try a non-Orange SIM card and see if it works. Will I be able to simply unlock the SIM by just using KaiserUnlocker.exe?
Question 2:After that, if I don't like the Orange branded Windows Mobile 6.1, isn't it simply a case of installing HardSPL v3.x.x (latest) and then continuing with the HTC ROM flash procedure as found here?
Question 3:I've just read some replies above about security unlocking. I'll need to do that as well? Is it automatic as part of HardSPL version 3.x.x?
Sorry for all the questions, I've done and still am researching the Wiki/stickies. I figure it'll save time if I clarify the steps now before attempting anything risky.

You must have Hard SPL v1 OliPof to use the Kaiser SIM Unlocker (from here)
The security unlock is not part of the Hard SPL 3.* process, there is a seperate thread by jocky on Security unlocking.

Ah, but then the KaiserUnlocker says I must also be on a Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM to SIM unlock it, and my Orange phone will come with a 6.1 ROM. And on the HardSPL v3 FAQ, it says if you're on a 6.1 ROM, you should use HardSPL v3.
So, does this mean I can't unlock the SIM, without first installing HardSPL v3, downgrading to a HTC 6.0 ROM, then installing HardSPL v1, use KaiserUnlocker, then install HardSPL v3 again and upgrade to HTC 6.1 ROM?
Or what better option does an Orange-branded HTC TyTN II Windows Mobile 6.1 Sim-locked phone have?

Install Hard SPL v3 and try the SIM Unlock, sometimes it will work, if it fails, downgrade to Hard SPL v1 and Flash a WM6.0 ROM. Then Sim unlock, then Flash the 3.* Hard SPL and a WM6.1 ROM & Radio.
