Is there any easy way to silence everything except for the Alarm function when I go to sleep each night? I want to have Notifications for emails and Calendar events audible during the day. But at night I want to have a silent phone with the exception of the Alarm Clock. Seems a simple ask but tricky to accomplish.
An easy way: Get pTravelAlarm
It overrides your soundsettings. Pretty darn handy !
Sounds good. Will check it out. However it is dissapointing that this capability is not in the phone without add on software.
I am somewhat surprised no one else seems interested in a "silence everything except for the Alarm" function! Seems to me a good way to have the phone set of a night time.

Because it would seems to be the logical mode to have your phone in at night if you need to use the Alarm and do not want to be disturbed by anything else. Not much point having a wakeup Alarm set in a device that pops and farts all night keeping you awake (emails/reminders etc)
Instead you can set the phone to silent mode to avoid the sleep interruptions and then the Alarm wont sound
well i get your point...i do the same with phone suite..in a different way to achieve the same result i guess
what i do is just set my alarm at lets say 7am...then select the silence profile to 6:59am...so at 6:59am it will change to the vibrate profile and then at 7 my alarm would vibrate...and any calls/text n such before 6:59am would just be under the silent profile
Yes, there is an easy way to do it. Use PhoneAlarm, it´s a kind of Swiss knife. For example you can create profiles like you might know it from Nokia phones. Your night profile may leave the alarm funktion working.

Will check it out as well. Like you say a timed profile would indeed do the trick. Still, I find it disappointing that this capability is not built into such an expensive phone and you have to pay extra for it.
There's an easier solution.
Try enAlarmPPC.
Just turn the sound off; alarm will still sound!

PhoneAlarm Lite will do what you want and it is free.
I do agree that it's an irritating omission from Windows Mobile, but it's not the only one. That's why places like xda-dev are so useful

I've been needing just this sort of functionality myself recently and was disppointed that this feature doesnt exist as with most phones my blackberry can be turned off and it'll still sound the alarm only......come on Microsoft....pull your bleedin socks up !!

If thats this PhoneAlarm Lite it is not free and costs €14.50 with a 30 day free trial. I do not want to have to pay that sort of money for single simple feature that should be in the bloody OS in the first place. I am sure PhoneAlarm is an excellent product but I have no use for all its other features. (Like buying a car to listen to the radio when I could have bought a radio). Wish there was just a registry key I could change that would force that Alarm to sound when the phone is set to its Silent profile. Even a tiny app that would achieve just this functionality and nothing else would be worth paying a couple of bucks for.

Hi folks
I'm just curious as to what alarm applications you guys are using. I'm find the built in "Clock & Alarms" to be somewhat limited as it only allows for 3 alarms.
I would like something similar to it, but to be able to easily add new alarms, and maybe even customize the ringtone/vibrations for them individualy, if possible.
Thanks for your interest
I am very satisfied with Chronos Time Clock.
Their website is:
http://www.activekitten.com
Not free though.
SPB Time by SPB Software House.
pTravelAlarm.. but its a HEFTY 3.5mb install
I too use SPB Time, it looks nice, and is full of lots of features, including timers, alarms, and a nice clock screensaver if you choose to use it.
I use Pocket WakeUp.
It's a free app in French, but there is a little patch that converts (almost) everything to English.
Has all the required functionallity: assign mp3's, set which days of the weeks it should run, override volume control, etc.
GS Alarm clock
I'm using GS Alarm clock and i'm quite happy with that choice...and it's free...
I use EnAlarm... it is really good, quite customizable also...
Not to hijack, but do any of these alarms have an option to repeat th ealarm every "X" DAYS?
I want a recurring alarm every 4 days, but most alarm apps are limited to repeat every "X" minutes - NOT DAYS.

It will not let you do an alarm every "X" days though. It is every day (or you choose which days), not every "X" days.
Like, repeat every 4th day at 8 PM
oh.. sorry i see what your saying now. hmm question for you, why would you want that? couldnt something like that be set in the calander app?

Chronos Time Clock, in post #2, will do this. You just pick the days of the week you want the alarm to sound. Very simple and reliable.

Thanks for the suggestion.... BUT..... I am looking for something that does it every "X" number of days.
For example:
Every 4 days....
So if you start with the 1st(Tuesday), the next alarm would be 4th(Friday)....8th(Tuesday)....12th(Saturday).....16th(Wednesday) which the specific DAY isn't the interest, as it will be a different day of the week, but just every 4th day.
pTravel Alarm. No doubt.

You can try to set up a reminder-based alarm in the calendar. You can set up recurring daily appointments every x days. However, I have yet to see any alarm that does what you are looking for.
I also use pTravelAlarm
I also use SPB Time. Found it to be the best. Tried most alarm applications
This one is free and good:
spoonAlarm
i use StopTime. It's a pretty old program and only runs in portrait mode, but you can set up to 8 alarms on it, and its alarms have never failed to wake me up when needed.
Does anyone have an idea why the alarm stops so quickly on the Kaiser?
I mean it seems as if it goes off once for a minute or two and then that's it.
I have not ONCE woken up from it.
Is there a registry tweak to make it just keep going and how do you input custom alarm sounds, I need something with a higher volume/pitch than the built in Alarm5 (the only one that's even close to be annoying enough).

Where you set you alarm, you are able to select "Repeat sound", although this does not work properly either.
But quite frankly, the built in alarm on WM6 is the poorest alarm I've ever experienced. It has few functions, few options, and few way to customize it.
But if you want a different ringtone, you can create a short(max 5-6 seconds) .wav file, and put it in the windows folder. Make sure it's not too large, either. Then you should be able to select it in the alarm menu
Is there any good alarm apps for WM6 then?
I don't have an ordinary alarm clock and I've used my cell phone for years as an alarm clock, this is the first phone I've had that can't do this simple task properly.
I have all the options check for the alarm, still it only rings for a minute or two so if I don't wake up immediately I'm screwed.
Don't want to miss any flights or appointments because of this so I really need something to replace it with.

Yes. If the ringtone is short, it stops ringing after a short while. I have an alarm tone of about 6 seconds, so it keeps going a while longer for me. But the alarm function for this phone is not designed for waking people up, I'm afraid. Only notify you.
SPB-Time is a great app for managing alarms and such
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/time/?en
The downside is that it costs about 15$. But SPB is a great company, so I believe they deserve those 15$ instead of just downloading it off the net. I've tested it, and I found it a great app
I still haven't found a proper free solution, though.
try StopTime by Jonathan Sachs. it never fails to wake me up.
Look over there...
Same discussion with more proposals for custom alarm. after I read this I got pTravelAlarm on my Niki and I think that will be the one.
Cheers,
jekk.
I'm currently running EnergyRom3.0 series (i believe the 6.05.2009 version) and for some reason every single day at 11:11am and 11:18am the alarm will go off?
obviously there is no alarm set either of those times and all alarms that are set are turned off anyways..I have checked both the Manila alarm settings, as well as through settings/clocks and alarms...both are the same and neither have any alarm set for that..
I've searched around and it seems this is known as a "phantom alarm" that used to occur on older 6.0roms? Either way, the only fix/bandaid was to use SK Tools to clear duplicate notifications..well SK tools isn't free and I don't particularly want to pay for an app that might not fix this..
Other than reflashing, does anyone have an idea how to clear this alarm??
Any help will be greatly appreciated..this is beginning to drive me crazy as every day at work it sounds..even when the phone is on silent..I suppose I temp fix it by setting the notifications to not play sound when phone is on silent but would prefer to perm fix/clear this..
Thanks in advance!

just checked to confirm and nothing there..i have never used the calendar and it is just a standard alarm that goes off..same tone and snooze/dismiss options as any normal alarm i just cant turn it off...
That sometimes happens when you mess up your database.
Did you restore any data from an earlier backup?
Try to set all of your alarms first, then unset them. Sometimes that works.
There are programs to edit the notification queue, delete duplicate alerts and so on. Try to google some and give it a try.
Good luck!
nope no back up done, just a fresh flash and activesync when it was done..
i also do set all 3 alarms everyday..i just have a few more unwanted one that also go off..the alarms sounds even if all other alarms (note different times too) are set to off..
also today, for some reason all text messages i recieve are said they were recieved an hour prior, well coincidentally my random alarm went off an hour earlier too...
i will see what i can find as far as freeware goes..
thanks
Hi everyone,
Okay this might be a dumb question but I'm going to ask. Is there a way to remotely enable/activate the GPS and WiFi on my Android phone through a text message? I currently have GPS Tracker, Lost My Droid, Real Time GPS Tracker, Seek Droid, SMS GPS Enabler, and Where's My Droid installed on my phone to try and remotely turn on my GPS and WiFi. The problem is that yes sending the text to my phone and have the sound go off for Where's My Droid and Lost My Droid works, but the problem is having my GPS and WiFi turned off on my phone and not hearing because its not there. Yes, their are plenty of good apps that let you track your phone if your GPS is on, but they do not allow you to turn on GPS and WiFi through (SMS) text. So all and all, is there an app or apps that can do this for me, so I can do what I want to do?
Any information would be helpful, instructions would be better lol.
Thanks, II

I am the Dev of seek droid. Why leave the GPS disabled? It really does not conserve that much battery. Enabling the GPS does not leave the GPS turned on or even give the GPS any power unless the application you are using requests GPS.
Go pick up tasker from the market, and you can create a profile to have it enable gps whenever you get an sms.
You should probably have taker already anyways. It's a beast.

For some reason on my phone if I leave the GPS enabled it will drain out my battery in a few hours (8hrs). Where as if I turn GPS off, my battery has lasted up to almost 16hrs which is double and it is the only setting that I have changed.

f you don't see the satellite dish in the notification bar then it really shouldn't use any battery, even if GPS is enabled. If you have location stuff turned on so the GPS is being used (i.e. you see the satellite dish in the notification bar) it will use battery.

Let me know and I can send you the profile I use. It makes the phone talk (alerting them that gps is being remotely enabled to track the phone down) and sends a confirmation text to the number that activates the gps. Then you can use "wheres my droid" or whatever else to track that S.O.B. down.

Bob, I do know this. For some reason my Map app starts up on its own and launches Latitude causing my GPS to activate and stay on. I don't want to uninstall Maps or Latitude because I do use them. Its easier to just turn off GPS then hassle with trying to find the source of the problem, in truth.

Well the way my profile is set up, whenever I receive a text with a certain phrase in it, it'll turn on the gps. Along with a few other things
It's not one of the advertised features because it's just one of the many things you can do with it.
I'll try to post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
Edit: This oughta work. Import this into tasker.

It should be able to import after you paste the xml file into:
/sdcard/tasker/profiles
Then just hit menu -> profile data -> import one profile

If you use Latitude, it will be on all the time and cause battery drain because it needs update your location 24/7 even if Gmaps is not used. You don't have to uninstall it. Just make sure you log out of Latitude if you don't use it.

Well for the lock screen; I was trying a remote lock down after I enabled the GPS tracking, so they could not turn it off, other then removing the battery of course. The only thing I can do right now is, set screen time out to 7sec. which is the smallest amount Tasker allows. The lock in Tasker is a joke because if you click on the notification bar at the top and select something you can bypass the lock, even in full screen mode.
As for the Ringtone/Ringer; I was trying to setup the phone to ring when people text me, similar to that of Where's My Droid, but with a twist. When I get their text, the assigned ringtone under their contacts or from file would play, that way I would know who it was without having to look at my phone every time. For this one in particular; do you or someone else know how Where's My Droids setup works? Then I can try to base it off of that. From what I can tell, it tricks the SMS into using the the ringer system and not the notification system. So a bait and switch from SMS Receiver to Cell Receiver. That's all I know for now.
Thanks for the link! I'll go through it to learn some more about Tasker.

I've never tried to set up a remote lock through tasker, I just had it set up to enable the GPS so I could lock+retrieve it via wheres my droid/lookout. But i have heard that the tasker lock down was pretty weak >.<
I actually never realized the phone didn't support custom tones for contacts outside of the calling ringtones. That actually sounds pretty difficult to implement via tasker. You would first have to disable notifications from your sms app so the tasker profile wouldn't just play a sound over that one. You'd also likely have to create a separate profile for each contact that you want to have a custom sms tone for.

using the phone for the gps sensor?
1)Shake to wake, like the pebble. The current wake up makes my watch turn on way too often.
2)Expanded notifications without first tapping on the notification like how it is currently. I don't understand why I need to tap on it first before I can read the whole message. Just make them expanded/full notifications always, or at least make it an option.
3)There is too much of a delay for the media controller app. There's about a 1 second delay between pressing a button in the media controller app and having my phone actually change the song. The pebble does the song switch almost instantly. If this is due to the lower bandwidth of Bluetooth Low Energy, make it an option to turn off BLE and use only BT Classic. I would gladly give up battery life for faster notifications/control over my phone. This brings me to #4
4) Faster notifications. Sometimes I have a 1 second wait before a notification shows up on my watch after having already shown up on my phone. Again, if this is due to the limited bandwidth of BLE, make it an option to only work on BT classic.
Edit: Oh I misread the topic. I thought this was about changes to the Gear. I'll just leave this here anyways.
Me too, i would like a GPS guidance for walking.
An extention of Sygic will be really great.
I can honestly say I couldn't ask for much more from my watch.
I would like a keyboard to reply to msgs (from anything that shows up in notification center - email, text, hangouts, etc) - without having to bake in a whole new rom etc

Something like Rain Alarm pro does on the sony smart watch. Yes you can get the alert when the app sees rain but the ability to see weather radar on the watch would be awesome!
