Am having difficulties getting the GPS to work with Goole Maps and the product packaging here in Asia doesn't have TomTom.
I'm looking for a GPS testing tool to test whether I can get an initial lock onto a GPS (which I understand can take several minutes first time arond) and eventually then use Google Maps.
Google tells me there's a (freeware?) tool "GPS Viewer" by Holux / Maction but I can't seem to find a .cab file. Anybody can share a link to this or a similar tool, much appreciated.
Here is a tool for you. Setup COM4, 115200, NMEA
thanks for that ... I'm not able to set COM4, the drop down list for Port: has only "Serial_BTU COM7:"
does anyone know of a simple today plug-in that would display different gps info? like maybe lat/long, speed, direction, etc?
Isn't that going to kill battery... having GPS on all the time?

Of course it would... doesnt mean you have to have it active all the time though, i was just thinking of some instances where it would be cool to have that info but not loose all the other info on your today screen..

Hi Shogun
Seen some small apps that give basic data (no maps needed etc) but so far none that run as a plugin.

Thanks much ...
There is an app on use on WM5 called Navio that shows GPS data on a Today screen plugin. Do not know if will work on WM6. I hope to find out if AT&T would release the Tilt.
For using googlemaps, you must installing and using once tomtom. After, googlemaps is working fine.

GPS viewer is great because it actually shows you when you have a proper GPS lock.

VisualGPSce is cool too, it's got a radar showing all the Tie Fighters in range
I need to start tracking my movements because i just recently started a new hobby where i could easily get lost. If there is either some way to track my steps or mark my location every 5mins per say.
Any help would be appreciated thank you.
Note: i know googlemaps has TrackMe but I do not have a data plan, so i use TT6.
This feature is usually called "bread crumbing" and I do not believe that Tom Tom has it - I have hadd almost every version of TomTom including one not on my Tilt and I cannot find it there.Bill

I have used tomtom for years as well and never seen a feature like this.
ok i've searched trying to figure out how to run trackme with tomtom but it don't work
guess im just stuck without for now.
You can try WMMiniGPS11b_Installer which will track your path, and export it to KML to view on Google maps/earth or live search
Though this won't help you if you are lost I suppose...

I didn't try this, but i came across about a month ago, and it might be what you are looking for:

looks interesting thank you. too bad they don't have a trial.

Thanks for your help man. i'll report back.
Fwiw, I just checked on mine with Garmin XT and it does do a selectable time Track Log as well as a POI file to store your own waypoints.
Mack

I installed Track Me yesterday and had fun with it all day long. Please define "Doesn't work" and lets see what we cah do to help you. There is a HUGE thread on how to make this program work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340667
Now - At the very TOP of this thread it indicates a couple of programs that you have to have installed on your computer -
REQUIREMENTS
Devices running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 (no Windows Mobile for Smartphones)
Microsoft Compact Framework 3.5
SQL Server Mobile 3.5
and it gives you a download link. Mine did not work either until I downloaded those.
THEN install the program. It works a treat. The only problem I have had with it is if I tell it to connect every thirty minutes and check the box to disconnect after each connection - it does not seem to connect after that.

oh sorry, i did post in that link what my problem was after i started this thread. This thread was for the purpose for another program.
Anyhow my problem is after reading that thread and following different peoples advice i cannot get a fix with any gps program when i have trackme open.
PathAway 4 Professional has a feature to upload your coordinates in a few different ways, email, and I think even a web post method. I haven't looked at the features closely yet, but check it out.
Guys help me out, I misplaced the CDs that came in the gorgeous Diamond box.
And as many of you I have Flashed my device with new Kick arse Panoshas.
Now I cant install the spb gprs monitor that came with the CDs.
I know the app is not free, but I "technically" have it.
Can some one hook me up?
If im making a mistake, by asking for software that is not freeware I will erase this thread.
Thanks before hand fellas.
Cheers!
Maybe you could get the CD from your operator?
If you've got a licence key, you can download it from spbsoftwarehouse.com
Personally though, I prefer batterystatus for monitoring data usage, because it does pretty much the same thing, and also monitors phone usage, sms etc.. and a lot more device info (if you're interested)

*BUMP*
Because GPRS Monitor isn't working correctly on Diamond, it keeps forgetting to count the transmitted data.

Which version do you use? I have installed 2.5.1 retail licensed. The program is set to monitor the traffic over my GPRS-connection, and it counts the sent data just fine.
Have fun!
I also use this version, v2.5.1 Build 247, and suddenly it stopped counting the traffic.
I even tried to rename the old data file of GPRS Monitor, so it creates a new one but this doesn't help either. It counted 225 KB of traffic and since then no more counting.
Btw, I looked for BatteryStatus and all sites/projects that I've found don't count anything but just display something.

And where to find this BatteryStatus YOU guys are talking about?
Do we really have to ask for every single detail here.
hey guys i did was wondering if this would be possible. Is there any way to answer intercom or page someone over windows mobile device? I need program like that so bad and i cant find nothing close. Thanks for your time.
Can you elaborate a little .... "answer intercom or page someone"????
What are you trying to do?
I guess you want it to work as a walkie-talkie?

at&t's version of this is the Push to Talk. Costs extra.
Other than that I suppose you could try and setup Skype on your phone, but that's not really walky-talk type stuff. But it avoids voice charges.
may not be what you're after but i was playing with parlingo yesterday specifically the voice chat and when i sent a "voice note" to my buddy it played the message without him doing anything. now we already had a chat session opened (didn't try without it being started)
It's possible

If you've got a bluetooth-enabled intercom, it's possible. You could do it with a wire as well.
As for paging someone, you could text them.
If you want a walkie-talkie style device, there's a program out there (I forget it's name, but found it using Google) that lets you do this using the WiFi connection on your phone. Works okay even with full-duplex voice communications.
If you give us some more information on what you want to achieve, I'm sure we'll be able to help more.

4Talk is the one that I was referring to earlier. Thanks for pointing me back at it!
It'll work over infrastructure or ad-hoc wifi networks, so with a bit of configuration you can get it to work just like a walkie-talkie.
