webcamera plus 2.0 - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi xda'ers. I'm really hoping someone out there can help me. I've got an AT&T tilt. I purchased some software called webcamera plus by Ateksoft. It doesn't seem to work though. It won't connect the ppc to the pc through active-sync...although it should. my tilt just keeps trying to connect to a certain IP address. On my pc, it shows the software as waiting for a connection. I never get past that point. Would anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 things to check would b that the phone is set for advanced network functionality and also the same setting on pc's activesync. If not test ip address with ie? on pc to check for responce.

Also make sure you have the port settings right, and port forwarding may be needed (most likely will be). I'm using it and it works great.

um, try this:
if you're using it with wlm for example, start the webcam on the phone, and the annoying lil box will come up and it will look for an ip address, THEN send your webcam on wlm, nothing will happen...so cancel the webcam on the phone, (just press the action button to make the annoying lil box go away)....then try starting the webcam again, from your phone. it should then immediately find the ip address. it's really gay software!
hope this helps.

I'm having a similar issue, and the fix above didn't work. I've got "Auto-detect IP Address" unchecked, put in my laptop's network IP (192.168.2.6), forwarded port 2047 to 192.168.2.6 on my router...still nothing. It just endlessly tries to connect and the attempts counter just keeps ticking up, meanwhile my computer still says "Waiting for connection...". Am I doing something wrong here? Even if I check "Auto-detect IP Address", it does the same thing except it says "IP: 169.254.2.2" instead of "IP: 192.168.2.6" in the window. Do I need some kind of firewall setting or something? This has me stumped.
EDIT: I changed it so port 2047 forwards to 192.168.2.7 (my phone's LAN IP) and disabled my firewall. Still no dice.

I bought the app last tuesday and after a few tries I deleted it......it's buggy as hell.,,,waste of money.

First, ensure you've installed the desktop software correctly. It loads the video device driver so Webcamera Plus will show up as an available video device in capture programs. Also I'm assuming here that you've properly installed the latest application on your phone. If you haven't go to the Ateksoft website and get the latest version.
Next verify that you have a working Activesync connection between your PC and phone. Some have indicated it's necessary to disable advanced network capabilites in the "USB to PC" control panel (under Start > Settings > Connections). You're mileage may vary, and seems dependant the ROM. I'm running the Faria WM 6.1 and I don't even see this option and the program still works fine on my system. Now connect your Kaiser to your PC.
Now launch your video capture program, or chat program that uses a webcam, or whatever you'd like to use Webcamera Plus with. You should be able to choose your video source, and if you've installed the Webcamera Plus desktop software correctly you should see it as an available video source. Choose it.
Finally, start the Webcamera Plus application on your Kaiser. Go to Menu > Settings > Network. Check the box to "Autodetect IP". If you're going to use Activesync instead of a TCP/IP connection then this must be checked. Click "Done", and then "Start". You should be connected!
If not then check the firewall settings on your PC. Maybe reinitialize the capture device in whatever program you're using on your PC to view the Webcamera Plus image / video stream. Good luck!

Your Kaiser is connected to your LAN via Wifi also, yes? In other words, both your laptop and your Kaiser are on the same network. If so, then you were on the right track setting up port forwarding to your laptop's IP address. If you have the right laptop IP address set in the Webcamera Plus software (on the phone), and the same port specified as you setup in your router, then it should work. If it doesn't then you may have a software firewall blocking your connection.
If you're phone is NOT connected to your LAN via Wifi then you're using the wrong IP address (192.168.2.6). You need to use your WAN IP, not your LAN IP, in the phone's Webcamera Plus network settings. If that doesn't work, and you're sure your router settings are correct, then you should probably take a close look at your firewall logs. Or try disabling it altogether for test purposes.

I ended up getting a different program which worked better, but the FPS was pretty crappy either way and the camera cut out every few seconds. Looking at actual webcam alternatives now instead of being cheap Thanks for your replies though, I appreciate it.

is this software freeware?
hi is the software webcamera v2.0 freeware or does it expire after a set amount of usage and then you have to pay? thanks

Modemlink and Edge question

I tried to search this but the only thing I could find was a thread that walked you through the setup but when I tried it, nothing happened.
Here is what I got:
T-Mobile, T-zones workaround for Edge.
Can I tether my MDA to my laptop via USB cable to use Edge. If so, someone please walk me through it.
Thanks,
M3
I've been trying this too but wasn't very successful. I've tried setting up everything myself from my knowledge, but I guess that wasn't enough.
So I found a program called PDAnet. It is supposed to be an excellent program to do exactly what you're asking- connect GPRS phone to laptop to access internet. Well, I've tried this program but was not successful. For some reason I couldn't get it to work. But do give it a try yourself, it is supposed to be great.
If it works for you, maybe you can share your settings? thanks
I do this all the time, I hate the $9.95 1 day access fee when your in an airport maybe 2 hours if that.
First, ditch the USB cable and link via bluetooth. I only got my USB setup to work once and that after massive messing around. I'm assuming you have bluetooth on your lap top, I've a Dell so your set up may be somewhat different than mine.
First you want to make sure your BT radio is on, all I have to do is right click on the system tray icon and enable radio. Next bring up the BT settings manager and hit make a new connection. On the Com screen in the wizard make sure it's set to discoverable, there is a link under the settings menu bottom of the screen. If this is the first time you've paired the laptop to the Wizard then you'll need to enter the access code, in my case it is 0000 for both. On my laptop I need to go into the manual connection process otherwise it assumes I want to do a file transfer and not a modem connection. Set the connection to dial up modem, if it asks you for a number to dial it is *99# (Tmobile gprs). Thats pretty much it. The only hitch I've found is that I occasionally need to set the wizard to discoverable.
When I want to connect to the internet at admittedly slow GPRS speeds I bring up the BT manager and hit connect, it finds the Wizard, dials it into the GPRS and that's it, I'm tethered and have internet access. It's slow, kind of like a dsl line but for checking emails it's just fine. I used to have a Sierra Aircard which I could pop my SIM into and that worked great and was stable but the new laptop has an express card slot so the Aircard doesnt fit. If you have the older style port and Cingular or Tmobile you can pick these up cheap on ebay.

New! Version 1.72 adds support for GSM/GPRS devices such as T-Mobile MDA or Cingular 8125! It also supports Vista and Bluetooth/InfraRed connection through ActiveSync.
^thats from their website. Have you tried it lately?
I'm about to install it myself and try. Will post how it goes.

USB Utility

I'm not quite sure this is the appropriate place to post, so forgive me if it isn't.
I remember some time ago, when still on my magician, that somebody had made a program so that, when connected to a pc via USB, the phone would be seen as a usb pen drive, directly accessing the sd card. I also remember it was only for WM5.
But I switched to Trinity, so now I'm looking for it through all of the forum: I hate to be the lazy b*stard, but I've been searching for the past hour to no avail: every time I key in usb, half of the threads in the forum show up, obviously...
So anybody remember what it's called?
Thanks for any help or indication
WM5Storage
After install you must goto settings> Comunications> USB to PC and uncheck that setting for WM5Storage to work properly. Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for the quick answer you guys - you're simply great!

Just give me a error... "failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial"
you might need to shut down any background apps that are running. I had WisBar advance running when I tryed and it would not even bring up the screen. When I shut Wisbar down i was able to change the setting. could be a background app or today plugin that is interfering with it.

I think it's probably AvtiveSync, which is almost always runnig in the background, that is causing the error when you uncheck the USB>PC setting.

I solved this problem by deleting (temporary) my com connection to my bluetooth device (GPS).
DHCP client and RNDIS versus USB connection
As i tweak so much over time on my system, my DHCP client was turned off.
That's why my RNDIS device could not connect.
Through my local PC it needed to connect to the network DHCP server. CE seems to do this through XP's DHCP client services.
Turning these services on created the "advanced network connection" to work.
Big advantage to connect like this instead of turning off the RNDIS module and connect through 'normal' USB, is that my PC will now recodnize and automaticaly change from my private phone to my work phone (WM6.0 and WM6.1)
Network capability of my phone is achieved by having the right ip address in the 'external NDIS module' (networkcards). I had to do this manualy. Don't know why but; hey... Without network, still all Active sync options can be used, like installing or removing software, opening the mobile registry etc.
So: 6.1 can turn off the advanced network capability. My 6.0 with a lot of tools cannot.
But They both work better with my PC if I leave it turned on and turn on the DHCP client of my local PC.!
I hope this helps. It was a lovely solution after 5 hours of reading threads.
WM5torage is good program for that

Active sync 4.5.0 and Internet

Hey everyone I am really curious about how I need to go about accesing the internet throung the usb connection while my tilt is plugged in. I have read that previous versions of active sync had a feature called pass through which could be enabled / disabled at your choice. However in the current version of active sync this does not seem to be an option.
I basically just want to be able to browse the net on my tilt while I am connected to the pc via my usb cable.
Why because the at home internet connect is way better then the 3g network. This way I can download large files directly to my phone.
I have tried the registry edit as well as other methods. Still can't get the damn thing to work..
I am running the stock tilt rom directly from att. No mods no nothing. Also the version of active sync that I have came directly off the att tilt cd.
Please Help I appreciate your efforts in advance!
I have this workaround ( same situation with my X51V ) that you can try.
import the reg file or add the following key:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
Most works out of the box ( internet while activesync ... not sure why yours don't ... could be something that you did ??
anyway ... try the reg import and report back
I didn't do anything on mine and it is able to connect to internet through the USB whenever I connect it. WiFi is disable when the USB is connected.

when setting up activesync ... the last window allow you to enable WIFI while connected to USB too ( if prefered )
or go into ( File -->> Connection Settings ) and check "allow wireless connection on device while connected to desktop"
yeah tried the reg hack before. didn't change anything for me.
I also messed with the advanced network functionality box under start settings> connections> USB to PC.
No worky for me.
Is there anything else you guys have done on the phone? Should there be any other entries under network management? RIght now I have listed
Media Net
AT&T ISP
My Work Network
MY ISP
If you haven't MOD anything like you've said ... I would suggest a hard reset ... and don't touch that USB to PC setting !!!
things should allow you to surf while activesync right out of the box !

Any other suggestions?
In your PC ACtiveSYnc' connection settings, you will have a drop-down under name "This computer is connected to". Take out Automatic there and choose Internet.
Sometimes ActiveSync will not recognize that your PC has internet. Tell me if this was it in your case.

Carty..

ive been curious about this also. mine just seems to default to my 3g connection...do i have to disable this for it to use the active sync connection?
Nope. When Synced, ActiveSync' net is on first priority!
Regards,
Carty..
I wonder if you have the networks proxy set in your default internet connection and when you connect via as it cant see the proxy nd thus wont allow connection...
interesting i tried out the newest rom on kaiser upgrade section...the att rom. i was gettin the same behavior. i loved the rom but was only bugged by that. i went to a new rom and fixed that problem. something with how att handles activesync cant do the job.
And ATT use a proxy...

i tried the diasable proxy cab flying around...it was no good. I'm using a different rom right now. It only happened to me on that specific rom.
I would have thought you just need to check the connection settings and make sure no proxy is enabled.
regarding the Tilt and the proxy ... you could try out these 2 cabs at this thread ( 1 for disable ... the other is for enable )
look towards the end of the post ..."Sleuth255" had provided the cabs for you Tilt owners to fix the hidden proxy that is involved with AT&T Tilt
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1656670&postcount=1

Nice I downloaded the cabs. But before I launched them I took a look at my tilt for another second.
Keep in mind that I just did a hard reset and this is a stock att ship ROM.
Under start> Programs>Tools> There is a icon called proxy manager.
I clicked on diable proxy and did a soft reset. The problem is now fixed. I can browse the net while connected via usb through pass Thru.
Maybe the cabs do not need to be downloaded afterall as att already has them installed but thank you for the lifesaver!
Thanks people!
Hi,
I also used proxy manager to disable the proxy. Now whenever i connect my phone with activesync, it keeps connecting to the phone's GPRS (mediaNet). i look under the connections icon and it shows medianet connected, but not activesync.
anyone know how i can fix this to return to normal? i tried enabling the proxy again, but no luck.
HI,
I think I need the opposite
At work there is a very restrictive proxy that allows pie connections but, for example, does not allow to update the weather in HTC HOME.
There is a WIFI nearby that allows it...
Now, what I would like is to have my device ActiveSync'ed (so contacts, and so on are OK) while using WIFI for ineternet access...
Anyone knows if it is possible and how?
Thanks

Activesync error 80072f7d

I am using Activesync 4.5.0 (Build 5096) on my WinXP laptop to sync the AT&T Tilt with my laptop and outlook exchange. I have no problem with Activesync over the cellular network or wifi, but when I connect the USB and it automatically launches Activesync on the laptop, I see this error on the PC side. Looks like it is able to sync everything except the Outlook data. I looked for this error code on Microsoft site, but I don't see much details about this error code. I have installed additional SSL certificates to see if that resolves the issue, but it didn't. I have had this issue from Day-1.
It is not an issue as long as I am in USA where I have cellular data service to get the emails/appointments/contacts into my phone over the cellular network. However, when I travel, I don't plan to pay for the exhorbitant roaming charges and so would like to use the USB link to sync the info.
Has anyone else faced this problem? Is there a solution?
I heard they had wifi overseas, too. Supposedly its not that exhorbitant, and possibly more convenient than keeping a laptop with you at all times to sync your PIM stuff.
I do carry a travel router with me everywhere with my laptop while on travel to create an instant wifi access point. However, if I am sitting in one of our offices and have a LAN connection to my laptop, I don't see why I can't get my USB connection to work. I am sure there are others who need to sync up Outlook while the phone is connected to the laptop for charging purpose.
Saw this on a site, might want to check it out:
http://devnote.stokemaster.com/2008/02/activesync-45-supportcode-85020006-and.html
" Support Code:80072f7d

Note that this involves registry changes so be careful with it.

"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
This site has the registry file that you can double click and modify.
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/LSPvalue.reg
This disables the Layered Service Provider (LSP) that use the Windows TCP/IP stack. "
Don't know if that will work, but worth a try.
Make sure to export your original reg key first so if it doesn't help you can always change it back.
Alemaker
I tried the registry addition on the phone just now and then rebooted the phone. But, it didn't help. I have seen this discussion on pdaphone forum, but it is not clear whether it should be done on the phone or the PC side. Chris Herrera's site is also not very clear about it. The file has a .reg extension. Does the extension indicate where it should be run? I manually added the parameter on the phone.
hmm,
good question, and searching both my Vista laptop and my Tilt registry, didn't even come up with that key, but it may be making a new key.
If it didn't work on the phone, try the pc, and if it that doesn't help, was worth a shot.
This is a two part problem.....
The first thing you need to do is add the reg entry to your PC not your Tilt. You can download and run the reg entry from
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/LSPvalue.reg
or you can add the line to your reg using regedit.....
The second part is changing the connection settings within ActiveSync....
- Go to File/Connection Settings within ActiveSync...
- Go to the drop down box that reads "This Computer Connects to:" and change that from "Auto" to "The Internet"
Those two items fixed my errors......
Good luck....
The last suggestion fixed it for me.
The funny part is that this is a problem only on my work laptop. At home I have no issues.
Thanks
worked for me too
...but it didn't work with dutty's...using RynCpprV6 at the moment.
I think it is something to do with my work PC..
Just want to chime in and say this fixed the activesync error 80072f7d for me too!
(added HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000, didn't reboot, and File/Connection Settings within ActiveSync changed from "Auto" to "The Internet")

SOLVED - Activesync errors 80072ED/80072EE7/8502006

Since I had my tilt regardless what software (original AT&T or latest AT&T update) I was not able to sync with my work Windows XP SP2 PC. I COULD sync from a W2K PC and through the internet but NOT from the work PC.
Actually a request with MS suggested to install/upgrade USB NDIS drivers (which I did w/o success) or LOW LEVEL FORMAT HARD DRIVE due to a potential issue with the hard drive signature!!!
Weeks later I found an article in forums.microsoft.com
I followed "selecting 'this computer connects to the internet' from the 'file->connection settings' menu in activesync. It was previously set to 'automatic'." and it works like a champ.
Hope this works for others!

Welcome ...
the only thing which is not working is accessing the network through the tilt LAN interface. I didn't try a static route through the local PC yet but for what do I need it anyway - the 22" flatscreen is much nicer - LOL
PS, you CAN enable WiFi and open internal http or ftp pages if you dare.

30" HP @ 2560x1600 here (GeForce 8800GTS 640MB). And World of Warcraft still looks flat!
Another thing to check
Apparently Microsoft changed the Pass through LAN for Activesync from PPP to NDIS some time in the recent past.
Some firewalls/antivirus/antispyware/IPV6 on XP settings can cause NDIS not to work and you get the activesync errors when its on the USB.
The solution was to uncheck "advanced networking" in the mobile control panet applet "USB to PC" and/or disable IPV6/antispyware/antivirus/personal firewall.
I had this problem and apparently not only did this make all the activesync errors go away, but syncing in general seemed to be much faster!
THANK YOU!
Had this issue for two months, I thought I tried everything.
