SOLVED - Activesync errors 80072ED/80072EE7/8502006 - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Since I had my tilt regardless what software (original AT&T or latest AT&T update) I was not able to sync with my work Windows XP SP2 PC. I COULD sync from a W2K PC and through the internet but NOT from the work PC.
Actually a request with MS suggested to install/upgrade USB NDIS drivers (which I did w/o success) or LOW LEVEL FORMAT HARD DRIVE due to a potential issue with the hard drive signature!!!
Weeks later I found an article in forums.microsoft.com
I followed "selecting 'this computer connects to the internet' from the 'file->connection settings' menu in activesync. It was previously set to 'automatic'." and it works like a champ.
Hope this works for others!

Welcome ...
the only thing which is not working is accessing the network through the tilt LAN interface. I didn't try a static route through the local PC yet but for what do I need it anyway - the 22" flatscreen is much nicer - LOL
PS, you CAN enable WiFi and open internal http or ftp pages if you dare.

30" HP @ 2560x1600 here (GeForce 8800GTS 640MB). And World of Warcraft still looks flat!

Another thing to check
Apparently Microsoft changed the Pass through LAN for Activesync from PPP to NDIS some time in the recent past.
Some firewalls/antivirus/antispyware/IPV6 on XP settings can cause NDIS not to work and you get the activesync errors when its on the USB.
The solution was to uncheck "advanced networking" in the mobile control panet applet "USB to PC" and/or disable IPV6/antispyware/antivirus/personal firewall.
I had this problem and apparently not only did this make all the activesync errors go away, but syncing in general seemed to be much faster!

THANK YOU!
Had this issue for two months, I thought I tried everything.

Activesync 4.0 and WM5

Been playing with Activesync and WM5 now for over 4 hours.
My findings are the following.
1) I have seem to have lost the partnership and only way to get it back was to flash the device again and create a new one.
2) I have seem to be able to establish a partnership as a Guest.
3) after refalshing I made a new parnership and connected, added my contacts and started to sync, well it started to look for changes and that was it.
4) My device gives network card gives me a Unable to obatin ip error and I have worked with both the Use Secific Ip and server asgined Ip.
So now I get the feeling that you cant sync with WM5 and outlook 2003 configured with a pst file.
Can anybody confirm that they have been able to download there contacts out of outlook (not server based)?
What is the trick for the network card set up on the device and the windows based mobile device network card on the desktop.
PS Yes I have XP SP2
I can confirm that it works. I did nothing special, it almost worked from the beginning. One thing, that it seems Outlook MUST be your default e-mail client when building a new partnership.
Activesync 4.0.0 b4343
Outllok 2003 (11.5608.5656)
Mamaich's patched wm5 rom + fixes
I also have no problems with outlook 2003 and AS4. Firewall or some other program can block the connection.
But I've setuped ActiveSync to sync directly with exchange server.

Good for u that u have an exchange srvr
Thanks for the feedback.
At this moment in time I will forget the Outlook sync and work on the connection to the device.
1) When I installed AS4 and attached my 1.40 device I was able to browse the device (and hence load the partion application).
2) When I upgraded to WM5 I have been unable to connect and if I can I can only get a conection as guest.
What do I see.
1) On connection for cradel a new network card is installed on my desktop, its is the "windows moble device" , configured to auto and since it finds no DHCP isntall an APIPA address and acts as a DHCP
2) On whatching the device in the network connections "Remote-Ndis-Host" Set to Auto I see under the IP address a mac address and then a APIA address which seems to be the same as the DHCP on the Desktop.
(Cant remember when I saw it).
So the device sometimes shows me connected (seen by the arrows at the top) sometimes comes up with Can't get an address. However the desktop AS4 is still connecting.
Seems that I have a conflict in the AIPA which should not be the case as that is not what it was built for.
I will try fix IP on both sides and bridging the netsworks, also turn off the firewall.
Find it hard to belive that I could see the device with AS4 and rom 1.40 and now cant with WM5.
Oh sorry, I actually forgot to turn off the fire wall. Everything is ok after I did that....
WM5 and AS4.0 are working seamlessly.......
I Had the same problem, after installing WM5 on both my XDA & XDAiis my ohone wouldnt connect to my desktop. I have AS4 installed on my notebook and that works fine. (it looks like the proble happens only on the PC used for installing WM).
I suggest removing AS4 and re-installing it.
Good luck
Well I will be dammed.
I turned off my firewall PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 on the computer that installed the rom and bingo.
So the firewall worked ok with the AS4 and 1.40 but not after upgrade WM5. Must be something new in the WM5 rom. The device says its connected the desktop only says its trying to connect.
Here are a few more things that I tried
Installed AS4 on my multi boot Laptop XPSp2 Partiion, had Windows firewall enabled all default settings, saw device and paired (did not have office so could only explorer device). And it worked
On Laptop XPSp2 partition were I installed WM5 and was able to connect to device with AS4 and rom 1.40 before the upgrade: I gave Device a fix Ip and Wireless Network connection on Laptop a fixed IP in a different network. Could ping both from PC but not connect with AS4. Tried to bridge the two networks (not that it was need) but did not help. Tried the same segement with fixed IP and still no luck.
Reinstalled AS4 many a time, reflashed it also many a time and still could not connect.
Well that was Fun... NOT
Hi @ all, when I'm trying to install AS4 on my Computer, I get the following error:
"Setup not complete. The wizard was interrupted before Microsoft ActiveSync 4.0 could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. Click Finish to exit the wizard."
I've tryed it on my computer and on my mobile computer. Both have a legal Windows XP with SP2 and all current updates from WindowsUpdate.
I can't find a conclusion, maybe someone can help me
Hi,
same problems as MDAIIIUser here.
I tried AS 4.0 on 2 different Notebooks and 1 Desktop PC. No problems with WM2003. Best result I was able to get was on a Notebook with XP Pro SP2. I could explore the device but no syncing anything.
The other 2 PS´s weren´t able to connect at all.
Any ideas ?

TOM
Well my problem is that my active sync takes ages to sync the contact and calender. Well i do have 900+ contacts but with WM2003SE that used to take a couple of minutes. Can someone enlighten on this.
Thanks.
Hemant.
The answer is that unfortunately the Persistent Storage (Flash Memory) although a benefit in so much as it will stop you from losing all your data in the event of a battery drain is also 10x slower than RAM. This is where the database resides for Pocket Outlook and you will see the speed difference when doing large file operations such as this.
Don't panic too much as after the first sync it will probably not make a great difference to normal syncs which will only update a few items each time.
There are some great links for stuff on Persistent Storage over at buzz's site ->Here<-
Bebbo,
Thanks for ur reply. The thing is that even my first sync hasnt finished yet and it takes a lot of hours to sync each one. Anyway i am trying to finish this weekend.
Thanks.
Is there a possibility that as4 cannot sync contacts with outlook2002?
Because I just can sync files and media. Most important things like contacts,
calender, task etc. don't work. Am I the only one with this problem?
Same problem as told by MDAIIIuser
Dear MDA-IIIuser I am facing same problems as you have written in your letter.
I Tried to give IP address manually it did not work.
Desperately, I tried to reinstall Active Sync 3.8; it did not detect my PPC.
I was able to synchronize my contacts....every time when I hard reset but after that nothing,,,,,,,,
although the Icon of LAN card showing incoming and outgoing data it remains in the phase of "connecting".
I tried to bridge to LAN card, it did not work.
If you will get any solution please let us know..
Thanks..
Well I amanaged to sysnc my contacts and my problem was my own firewall PC-Cllin 2005 which I needed to turn off.
Fire wall??
I am using Zone Alarm Pro, I was thinking on this line....I turned of (I turned off the windows fire wall also)...but problem remain same
shall I uninstall Zone alarm and see the responses??????????? :? :?
Well I checked my device with AS4 XP2 with Firewall (its default) and I could see my device, I did not sync as I had no office on it.
I was able to see the device with AS4 and Rom 1.40 so some thing is different with WM5.
Anything to do with ports must be off, also make sure you are connected direct.
Try it for what its worth!
I am also having this problem. I have assigned my PPC to obtain a server assigned IP address since i am syncing with two device. Every time it syncs it gives me an error that the server couldnt assign IP. Any luck on that.
Also all those people having problems where your computer is not syncing outlook entries, here i what you can try to do. Open your Outlook 2003 and then click tools and then click detect and repair. Once it is finished you will see that it can sync your outlook entries now. I hope this helps.
This is because your outlook 2003 has to be the default mail client or it wont sync your entries. Again of the dirty tricks of M$.
Hi Guys,
I have a rather odd problem. I am using a WinXP SP1 laptop along with Norton Internet Secruity 2005.
I just purchased a jasjar and installed the activesync 4.0 program that came on the CD. When i begin to synchronise, i get the following message:
"You will only be able to sychronise files, folder and other non-Outlook items right now. If you want to synchronise email, calendar, notes, tasks, contacts, please disconnect the device, install and run Outlook and then synchronise again". Well the funny thing is outlook is already running and used to work fine with my PDA2k.
Outlook is my default client for all of the above. I even tried disabling the firewall, still no luck. Can you guys help me out here, its really bugging the hell outta me.
Appreciate any input.
Best Regards,
UD.

Activesync error 80072f7d

I am using Activesync 4.5.0 (Build 5096) on my WinXP laptop to sync the AT&T Tilt with my laptop and outlook exchange. I have no problem with Activesync over the cellular network or wifi, but when I connect the USB and it automatically launches Activesync on the laptop, I see this error on the PC side. Looks like it is able to sync everything except the Outlook data. I looked for this error code on Microsoft site, but I don't see much details about this error code. I have installed additional SSL certificates to see if that resolves the issue, but it didn't. I have had this issue from Day-1.
It is not an issue as long as I am in USA where I have cellular data service to get the emails/appointments/contacts into my phone over the cellular network. However, when I travel, I don't plan to pay for the exhorbitant roaming charges and so would like to use the USB link to sync the info.
Has anyone else faced this problem? Is there a solution?
I heard they had wifi overseas, too. Supposedly its not that exhorbitant, and possibly more convenient than keeping a laptop with you at all times to sync your PIM stuff.
I do carry a travel router with me everywhere with my laptop while on travel to create an instant wifi access point. However, if I am sitting in one of our offices and have a LAN connection to my laptop, I don't see why I can't get my USB connection to work. I am sure there are others who need to sync up Outlook while the phone is connected to the laptop for charging purpose.
Saw this on a site, might want to check it out:
http://devnote.stokemaster.com/2008/02/activesync-45-supportcode-85020006-and.html
" Support Code:80072f7d

Note that this involves registry changes so be careful with it.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
This site has the registry file that you can double click and modify.
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/LSPvalue.reg
This disables the Layered Service Provider (LSP) that use the Windows TCP/IP stack. "
Don't know if that will work, but worth a try.
Make sure to export your original reg key first so if it doesn't help you can always change it back.
Alemaker
I tried the registry addition on the phone just now and then rebooted the phone. But, it didn't help. I have seen this discussion on pdaphone forum, but it is not clear whether it should be done on the phone or the PC side. Chris Herrera's site is also not very clear about it. The file has a .reg extension. Does the extension indicate where it should be run? I manually added the parameter on the phone.
hmm,
good question, and searching both my Vista laptop and my Tilt registry, didn't even come up with that key, but it may be making a new key.
If it didn't work on the phone, try the pc, and if it that doesn't help, was worth a shot.
This is a two part problem.....
The first thing you need to do is add the reg entry to your PC not your Tilt. You can download and run the reg entry from
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/LSPvalue.reg
or you can add the line to your reg using regedit.....
The second part is changing the connection settings within ActiveSync....
- Go to File/Connection Settings within ActiveSync...
- Go to the drop down box that reads "This Computer Connects to:" and change that from "Auto" to "The Internet"
Those two items fixed my errors......
Good luck....
The last suggestion fixed it for me.
The funny part is that this is a problem only on my work laptop. At home I have no issues.
Thanks
worked for me too
...but it didn't work with dutty's...using RynCpprV6 at the moment.
I think it is something to do with my work PC..
Just want to chime in and say this fixed the activesync error 80072f7d for me too!
(added HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000, didn't reboot, and File/Connection Settings within ActiveSync changed from "Auto" to "The Internet")
Another thumbs up. Works a treat. Didn't even need to reboot.

Cannot ActiveSync using my Kaiser (Solution Found)

Hi, I thought I will give you my experience, my device have been active sync for more than a month, suddenly it refused to sync any more, I've checked every\thing on my notebook, redownloaded the Activesyn, repaired no way, I've just surfed the net and found the cure for that bur I still wonder how did it happen suddenly, most of you knows that there are two ways of sync's either RNDIS Syn Mode or USB Serial Sync Mode, I found this usefull utility by MS to solve this problem just download to your pda, reset your device and open the application and choose USB mode Viola !!!
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/AS-Cab.mode.doc.doc.
Happy Syncing !!!
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/AS-Cab.mode.doc.doc.
I also had to use this solution when I got my TILT last year.
No matter what I did my TILT would not successfully connect to any of my PC's with ActiveSync. After changing the mode to "USB Serial Sync Mode" everything worked fine.
However ... a friend recently gave me a BlackJackII to play with, and again I could not get the device to connect at all via USB + Activesync. I plugged the phone into his computer and waaa laaa! Activesync worked perfectly.
Not sure why I have so much trouble connecting to devices via RNDIS. I've gone through all the troubleshooting ... firewall, antivirus, blah blah blah...
No luck. Is a cab with similar functionality for WM Standard? or if it just changes something in the Registry ... what is the Key?

Actually this can be used for all WM but you have to use the latest ActiveSyn from MS (V 4.5), this is the utility which can overcome this no need of a cab or so.
Actually all my machines do have ActiveSync 4.5 build 5096,
and of course I tried to install the cab on the BlackJackII before I even posted ... but I get the message
"Installation of ActiveSyncMode.sa.cab was unsuccessfull. The installation file is not intended for this device."

So it doesn't work for WM Standard ... at least on a BlackJackII

webcamera plus 2.0

Hi xda'ers. I'm really hoping someone out there can help me. I've got an AT&T tilt. I purchased some software called webcamera plus by Ateksoft. It doesn't seem to work though. It won't connect the ppc to the pc through active-sync...although it should. my tilt just keeps trying to connect to a certain IP address. On my pc, it shows the software as waiting for a connection. I never get past that point. Would anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 things to check would b that the phone is set for advanced network functionality and also the same setting on pc's activesync. If not test ip address with ie? on pc to check for responce.
Also make sure you have the port settings right, and port forwarding may be needed (most likely will be). I'm using it and it works great.
um, try this:
if you're using it with wlm for example, start the webcam on the phone, and the annoying lil box will come up and it will look for an ip address, THEN send your webcam on wlm, nothing will happen...so cancel the webcam on the phone, (just press the action button to make the annoying lil box go away)....then try starting the webcam again, from your phone. it should then immediately find the ip address. it's really gay software!
hope this helps.
I'm having a similar issue, and the fix above didn't work. I've got "Auto-detect IP Address" unchecked, put in my laptop's network IP (192.168.2.6), forwarded port 2047 to 192.168.2.6 on my router...still nothing. It just endlessly tries to connect and the attempts counter just keeps ticking up, meanwhile my computer still says "Waiting for connection...". Am I doing something wrong here? Even if I check "Auto-detect IP Address", it does the same thing except it says "IP: 169.254.2.2" instead of "IP: 192.168.2.6" in the window. Do I need some kind of firewall setting or something? This has me stumped.
EDIT: I changed it so port 2047 forwards to 192.168.2.7 (my phone's LAN IP) and disabled my firewall. Still no dice.
I bought the app last tuesday and after a few tries I deleted it......it's buggy as hell.,,,waste of money.

First, ensure you've installed the desktop software correctly. It loads the video device driver so Webcamera Plus will show up as an available video device in capture programs. Also I'm assuming here that you've properly installed the latest application on your phone. If you haven't go to the Ateksoft website and get the latest version.
Next verify that you have a working Activesync connection between your PC and phone. Some have indicated it's necessary to disable advanced network capabilites in the "USB to PC" control panel (under Start > Settings > Connections). You're mileage may vary, and seems dependant the ROM. I'm running the Faria WM 6.1 and I don't even see this option and the program still works fine on my system. Now connect your Kaiser to your PC.
Now launch your video capture program, or chat program that uses a webcam, or whatever you'd like to use Webcamera Plus with. You should be able to choose your video source, and if you've installed the Webcamera Plus desktop software correctly you should see it as an available video source. Choose it.
Finally, start the Webcamera Plus application on your Kaiser. Go to Menu > Settings > Network. Check the box to "Autodetect IP". If you're going to use Activesync instead of a TCP/IP connection then this must be checked. Click "Done", and then "Start". You should be connected!
If not then check the firewall settings on your PC. Maybe reinitialize the capture device in whatever program you're using on your PC to view the Webcamera Plus image / video stream. Good luck!

Your Kaiser is connected to your LAN via Wifi also, yes? In other words, both your laptop and your Kaiser are on the same network. If so, then you were on the right track setting up port forwarding to your laptop's IP address. If you have the right laptop IP address set in the Webcamera Plus software (on the phone), and the same port specified as you setup in your router, then it should work. If it doesn't then you may have a software firewall blocking your connection.
If you're phone is NOT connected to your LAN via Wifi then you're using the wrong IP address (192.168.2.6). You need to use your WAN IP, not your LAN IP, in the phone's Webcamera Plus network settings. If that doesn't work, and you're sure your router settings are correct, then you should probably take a close look at your firewall logs. Or try disabling it altogether for test purposes.
I ended up getting a different program which worked better, but the FPS was pretty crappy either way and the camera cut out every few seconds. Looking at actual webcam alternatives now instead of being cheap Thanks for your replies though, I appreciate it.

New Xperia will not connect with Vista

Hi,
I am getting a bit frustrated over this.
When I connect my X1 to my Vista x86 nothing happens (well the USB task tray icon show for about a second and vanishes again).
When I disable the "advanced option" in the USB/PC connection settings in the X1 I at least get a USB connection with something identified as "PocketPC USB Sync".
Any idea why this is happening and how I can get a real connection with the win mobile device center?
Thanks for helping me out!
Cheers,
Tillman
maybe give this a try:
http://modernnomads.info/wiki/index.php?page=Windows+Mobile+Device+Center+Troubleshooting
I've once had the issues of not able to connect my Windows Mobile device with vista too, and it can get very annoying.. good luck with it.
You might want to try and disable the firewall and then connect the device. I had this problem with Sygate Personal Firewall (sygate was bought by symantec and personal firewall is now terminated and no longer available)
Thanks for the quick response guys!
I already tried disabling the firewall (nod32) but that did not help.
Also checked all services - everything is peachy in that department.
But still - no connection.
When I switch back to "legacy mode" (disabling the advanced option in usb/pc settings on the device) then the device will tell me that I need to install active sync 4.5 or higher and wmdc still does not connect.
This is really strange...and annoying and the same time.
Any more ideas or any way for me to debug what's going on?
Thanks for you help!
Have you intalled "Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1" on your Vista-PC?
The MobileDeviceCenter should be standard without the need to install...
At my Vista Home the X1 had no problems to connect.
Open the Mobile Device Center and delete all old connections of other PPC. Then start your PC again, Softreset your X1 and try again. This should help. I had the problems too, when first connecting, because he didn't liked my G900-connection which was first
After this I too could install my G900 again and no problems since yet (2 weeks).

Well sometimes the Mobile Device center could stuff up or not work due to some issues such as installation of Mobile Device Center 6.1 went wrong. I have experienced that I think I didn't follow the procedures correctly and things just wouldn't work. Eventually I had to do some uninstall and reinstall many times to finally get it working.
When I first plugged mine it it installed some drivers but didn't show up in the Mobile Device Center; unplugging and replugging in caused it to work...did you change settings in between plugging in for the second time?
What I have tried so far (and nothing worked):
Uninstall / reinstall WMDC
Uninstall / reinstall Win Mobile Remote Adapter (yes, this does show up once I am connected with "advanced" USB mode)
Uninstall / reinstall "PocketPC USB Sync" (shows when X1 is set to legacy USB mode)
When in "advanced" mode I can also see a new LAN connection showing up in network overview.
The same X1 on a different Vista 32bit right next to this one will connect just fine. So it's definitely about a driver or config thing with this Vista.
This is driving me...well you know what.
btw, you did try restarting your comp when performing some of those steps, and you did try different USB ports right?
I know that you had to ask.
Yes I did. I have rebooted the system several times in between all those reinstallation tasks.
By the way. When I am in USB legacy mode and reconnect the USB cable then the X1 will show a messagebox telling me that it's connecting with the host and that the user credentials / user account (having to translate here) are correct.
But still NO connection visible in WMDC.
I had the same problem with my X1. I assumed that because my HTC Diamond worked the X1 would as well.
I finally installed WMDC from the SE install cd, and bingo!! al good. Hope it works for you...
Wow!
Even though it does not work (yet) it's showing some new signs.
Installing WMDC from SE disc fails at 99% progress and then rolls back.
There's gotta be some installation error log this, right?
Thanks for coming up with that suggestion. Really, I should try installing from vendor CDs more often instead of hunting down the latest version on the net.

Wow!
Even though it does not work (yet) it's showing some new signs.

maybe give event viewer a try and check under Windows Logs (not sure if it will be application or system tho)
just in case you aren't sure, in vista either type in "Event Viewer" in the start menu search bar, or type in "eventvwr"
Don't you just like vista?
That helped (to install SE's WMDC). The issue was that my HTC Universal was still connected to one USB port (for testing purposes since that device is not recognized either).
As soon as I unplugged the HTC I was able to complete the WMDC installation.
Unfortunately though it still won't connect to my X1.
Any more ideas?
what is your settings in Windows Mobile Device Center connection Settings?
Well here is my settings that is working with my x1:
Allow USB connections checked
Allow connections to "DMA"
This computer is connected to "Automatic" (this shouldn't matter)
Allow automatic device authentication checked
Allow data connection on device when connected to PC (this shouldn't matter either)
also, while this link was in the first link that I have posted for trouble shooting, just want to make sure you actually tried The offical Windows Mobile Device Center troubleshooting guide?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
namely these steps:

If Windows Live OneCare is installed on your machine, it may be blocking the device connectivity. Please click here for the steps to configure Windows Live OneCare to allow the device to connect.
My device wasn’t connected during this installation.
While it is not a strict requirement that you have a device connected during the installation process of Windows Mobile Device Center, we highly recommend that you do.

I didn't have the DMA set (changed that now). Everything else already was like you described and it does not work.
This really freaks me out. I always hated my iTunes/iPhone connectivity but that honestly works much smoother. Of course I do understand that this behavior is non standard as I have experienced myself that the phone works with my other Vista machine but that does not really help me here.
Any update on this? I am having the same problem.
I'm having the _exact_ same problem too, but in Vista x64. I don't know why WMDC can be such a c**t sometimes, as I have never been able to 'sync' with my Media Center PC.
My only saving grace is that my laptop has Bluetooth, and syncing works great on it. I have never had success connecting the USB cable (with many options changed around of course) to either of these computers. Only Bluetooth syncing works for me...
Hopefully we can find the answer!
What USB cable are you using??? the one that came with Xperia??? Cos the one that came with my Xperia never worked out of the box, it could only charge...
I also got another extra cord which came in another box, that worked fine for both syncing and transferring data until today, now it says USB device not recognized, maybe I was trying the flash X1 with new ROM through SEUS, did the whole lower volume key and power button to get the 3 strips.
Now I am using the USB cable that came with my external HDD, that's currently working, hopefully it won't fail me.
so any ideas??? I don't want to keep changing cables...
