Simple MMS question (while connected to activesync) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I leave my phone plugged into my Vista machine all day at work, i can send/receive SMS' fine, i can also stay connected to HSDPA and use MSN etc...
The only thing that doesn't work while im connected, is sending/receiving MMS'.
I'm assuming it's because when i sent/receive an MMS, it uses a separate connection - but does anyone know what i need to change on my phone to get it to work?
I've lived with it for ages now, but i'd love to fix it now, as im sure it's just a simple setting somewhere!
Thanks in advance!

Im sure all you need to do is change the settings in the config menu on WMDC to allow incoming and outing MMS settings

Thanks i'll take a look

Any idea where the option is?
Im looking under "connection settings" and everything seems to be setup already.... "allow data connections on device when connected to PC" is already ticked :/

OMG i rock, i fixed it
I just needed to tell it to use "T-Mobile Pic Messaging" to send, instead of "T-Mobile Internet" - BOOM.... working

Those with Tilt...can you get ICS?

Hey guys,
Im having a hard time figuring out why I cant get ICS working with my AT&T data plan. When in the ICS window, I select usb or bluetooth, then medianet, and hit connect. I immediately get an error "cannot connect for unknown reason". I cant sem to find a solution this problem. Can those of you on AT&T that have ICS working tell me what data plan youre on and what settings you have in connections? Thanks for all your help!!
I am on Medianet Personal Unlimited, the $39.99 package. Works like a charm, did you select USB and medianet as the internet connection method? I think by default it selects At&T GPRS as the connection method.
Yeah, I tried both available connections, medianet and ATT ISP, and on USB and bluetooth, still get the same error....I cant figure this out..How is your medianet connection setup (server, username, proxy)? Thanks for your help.

Well, it shouldn't be a network connection setting on the device because whether you have the ATT or HTC ROM installed it automatically sets everything up just fine.
Where are you getting this error, on the phone or the computer? What OS are you running on your computer? Any other info with that error? Are you running the stock ATT ROM, or HTC ROM? Have you installed any third party apps?
Give us some more info so we can be of better help.
(I'm using MediaNet without a problem via USB and bluetooth, with and without the proxy)
OK, first off, the phone is not connected to to the pc when this happens, since I am trying to get it to work as a wifi AP. Phone is running stock AT&T ROM. I go into ICS window, select Bluetooth PAN and MediaNet, click connect, it says "need to activate bluetooth (which it does)and then immediately get the error, it doesnt even try and connect. I've installed 3rd party apps, but nothing that should interfere with data connection. Am I missing a step?

Do you mean that you're looking to use Internet Sharing over WiFi rather than Bluetooth/USB? If so, how, since that's not a valid "target" for either selection box? I suspect there's a hack involved here that might be your issue.
select Bluetooth PAN and MediaNet

Do you have any partnerships established with a PC? Maybe the error you're getting is related to that. Mine fires off a message about entering discovery mode whenever I launch it when Bluetooth is enabled.

The only time I get the "Cannot Connect for an Unknown reason" error is because I'm going after isp.cingular. I'd recommend re-running Connection Setup from Settings-Connections to see if in your explorations you've somehow damaged the Media Net configuration. To me, it sounds like you've got an issue on that end. For example - the Media Net connection doesn't appear as a "real" connection on my TyTN II when I hit Settings-Connections- Manage Existing. But it is selectable from the pull down under the Advanced tab-Select Networks. If I don't replace "The Internet" there, I'll get the error sometimes.

Yes, there is a sharing over WiFi hack posted, just need to make a registry change and point Bluetooth PAN to your WiFi adapter. But even before I make that change, I stll get the error

I have a BT partnership which works fine.

My MediaNet connection is wap.cingular and otherwise works fine.
When you go to HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing\PrivateInterface in your registry, what value do you show there? I keep changing mine to BTPAN1, but when everytime I go back into the registry, it shows up with no value at all (deletes the BTPAN1). Could this be it?

MMS' not sending while connected

I'm currently using my phone while it's hooked up to my PC, everything works normally, except MMS' dont send...
I've noticed that they have their own connection settings... should i be using these, instead of the normal t-mobile internet settings that everything else uses?!
(screenshot attached with full details)
What's everyone else using ?
there are some options in ActiveSyn on you PC that allow you to send and recieve messages whilst connected.
I'll have a look in a bit.
As bluechrome says, in connection settings on pc in either activesync 4.5 or wmdc 6.1, you need to enable the data connections whilst connected to pc.
i work at T-mobile and yes they are the MMS settings they are different from the GPRS settings if you go to the web site there is a manual and it will tell you how to set it up
I've already checked the "allow data connections" tickbox (like i said, everything works, internet access, SMS messages, it's just the MMS' that dont send) :S

MEdia net automatic connect

I was wondering if there was a way to disable Media Net's automatic connecting whenever I open Internet explorer. I only use wifi for the internet. I disabled it using Kaiser tweak and that worked but then I cannot recieve MMS without MEdia Net enabled. I don't have a problem with it being enabled I just don't want it to automaticly start connecting. If it cant be disabled for everything but mms I would rather have a prompt.
Thanks.

EDIT: I should have read before posting. I'm not sure about the MMS part as I don't use the NODATA program. I was just thinking on the disabling data what I did for my moms phone. Sorry.
I tried that program and it has made it easer to enable/disable MEdia Net, but If there is a way to just make it not automatically connect that would be better. I really hate being charged for the data connection when I don't want to
Has nobody else wanted to get rid of the automatic connecting?
This is the way I disabled the automatic connection on my tilt with stock at&t rom. I don't know if it will work on other kaiser models/ roms since I'm still new with windows mobile (only had the tilt for a couple of months).
go to start>settings> connections tab.
select connections, go to advanced tab.
go to select networks.
On "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:"
I changed it from MEdia NET to My Work Network (since I don't use a work network it is not set up). I also switched the second option to my work network just in case.
Since "my work network" was not set up, whenever internet explorer or any other program tries to connect, it will show a "cannot connect" error unless wifi is already activated. however I can still send/recieve MMS since the MEdia net is not disabled.
If you need to use MEdia net on IE you can just switch the opiton back to media net.
I'm still fairly new to windows mobile and my tilt, and I couldn't find a way to do this after searching for days, so i just kept messing with the connections settings until i found this. This is the first time I got a chance to help someone here so I hope it's what you're looking for!
Thanks a lot, it works great!
So I thought this worked but I relized when I make Media Net not auto connect I cannot send or recieve MMS. Is there a way to only allow messaging to auto connect and then disconnect when done?
um why dont you just go to your connection settings and delete your "my connection" its not hard
If I were to do that then I cannot send/receive MMS. That is the dilemma.
go to connections and switch it to "My ISP" and delete the gprs setting from "My ISP"

Disable internet access while roaming? (but keeping GPRS/Wi-Fi/etc)

I've got a UK T-Mobile Vario III and will be in the states for two weeks soon.
I want to disable over-the-air internet access to avoid roaming data charges if any applications decide they want to go online (e.g. the weather plugin). I want to keep GPRS operating for send/receive of picture messages.
I'll have the laptop with me (with internet access) so I'd like the phone to still access free internet data when I've got the USB sync cable connected (or via Wi-Fi when I'm in a wireless hotspot).
Could someone remind me how to disable over-the-air internet while keeping the other stuff?
Andre
NoData
Try this: http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
Works great for me.
Thanks for the tip, that worked great to turn data connections off, but it also disabled MMS (picture message sending) which is cheap on roaming and I will want to use quite a bit. It was just internet roaming data that I wanted to prevent.
Any other ideas?
Andre
Try NoData from Modaco. You can chose between mms or internet disabling.

That's the one I tried (same filename anyway) but it only offers one item to enable/disable via the 'Toggle' option, thus:
T-Mobile Internet - ENABLED

Disabling that connection shouldn't disable your MMS connection, they're completely separate. I installed my T-Mobile settings via a cab on these forums (since I'm not using the stock ROM) and the two connections appear seperately in NoData.

On my stock ROM, it looks like the MMS sending is done via the T-Mobile Internet connection.
In Messaging > MMS Options... the server it uses is "T-Mobile PictureMessage".
When I click on that to check the settings, it uses the following:
Gateway: 149.254.201.135
Port: 8080
Server address: http://mmsc.t-mobile.co.uk:8002/
Connect via: T-Mobile Internet
Any further thoughts? I don't want to mess too much as we go away in a couple of days and don't want to break the phone...
Andre
Just spoke to T-Mobile. They say it's absolutely impossible to do with this type of phone - either you have internet on (which gives you MMS too) or you turn the whole GPRS connection off (thus losing internet and MMS messaging at the same time).
I expect they're wrong, but I'm now at a dead end.
Andre
I didnt see it mentioned, but if you happen to know all the carrier information for the internet account, you could always go to "manage connections" and delete all of the data connections there. You can put it back in in the matter of a minute or so later when you need it but it would without a doubt keep you from getting any usage charges.
I have t-mobile with stock 6.1 (dutch) and for me its certainly possible to enable internet and/or mms seperately.
You could also try kaisertweak if you havent already. It has options for enabling/disabling certain connection types.
My problem is that the UK stock ROM seems to route MMS traffic via the Internet connection, so if I disable internet it blocks MMS too. I don't have any separate settings for T-Mobile MMS that don't use the internet connection.
Andre
thats weird, when i installed nodata and ran it it said: An unexpected error has occured in NoData.exe. Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
ive already did a restart a few times, it might be because i have my kaisertweak as well. but im not exactly sure

I experienced this when I flashed a custom ROM and for a while it did my head in. I realised that it was because I didn't have any defined connection settings - once I installed the T-Mobile settings cab it opened and ran as expected.
Are your GPRS/MMS settings configured?

3G/GPRS instead of Wifi/Wlan

Hello,
I have an problem. When i'm connected to Wifi and launch Opera, weather update or anything else which uses internet. The diamond makes connection with the 3G/GPRS network. The wifi is being ignored or something.
I thougt that i had seen this problem before on this forum, but i searched and can't find it anymore.
Does anybody know an solution or knows where i can find one?
Grtz
You can set network priority up somewhere, i'd be of more help but i don't remember where this is in settings
I have also been looking for a solution to set network priority as wlan first but cant find where to..
ident
I've been reading this site a fair old bit recently! First time i've been influenced to post though. I'd also love a solution to this. Does anyone know how to change priority settings? I swear i'd turned GPRS off, but whenever I check the weather or internet, it connects, sometimes even when I have a wi-fi connection active.
I wish to only use my Diamond with the wi-fi, don't want to get raped on the data charges. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

That's the exact issue i have! Its bloody anoying!
how about using NoData or from Advance configuration utilities in comm manager actually disabling all other connections ? i've been confronted with the same problem many times and rather use the available Wi-Fi over the mobile internet connections, so that helped me
That's not good enough for me. I have a databundle so when i'm not at home i wanna use that internet. But when i'm at home i want wifi!
I think i found the problem. When you make a connection with a wifi network you can choose between "internet" and "work". When you choose internet there's nothing wrong. When you choose work it doesn't make some kind of internet connection so programs fall back to the gprs.
I'm having the same problems. I'm having a data subscription so don't want to disable it in total. What I tried was go to wifi settings --> network adapters. Selected internet from the drop down box on top (work was default for me). But Opera still connects through 3G or G. What settings did you change exactly Rik_X?
The settings that i changed is when you make a new wifi connection it asks if you want to connect as 'internet' or 'work'. You have to choose work.
With wifi networks allready configured you have to do the following:
Go to comm manager --> turn on WLAN and let it connect to the network --> then push settings --> Wireless LAN. Then go to Networkcards (in dutch its netwerkkaarten) (its under the SSID)
Then click on the connected network and change work into internet. Accept the setting and with a reconnect its works (for me)
Good luck
