Two different wallpapers depending on keyboard - HTC Wings

Is it possible to have two different wallpapers/backgrounds depending on if the keyboard is open or closed?

I would hazard a guess that its possible, how hard is another question.
I think you will have to come up with a way to tell the phone (regestry?, third party software?) that instead of changing the orientation and dimensions of the single image when the keybord is opened you can have it point to another XML file to load.
Loading a new XML and programs while unloading the old files plugins and such IMO will add an unplesant delay to the switch but thats just a guess.
To start with I would look for the files that tell the phone what to do when the keybord is out

Sure it is possible.
In the xml file defining your theme you only have to specify something like this
<background bgimage="\Application Data\Home\WM7\diamond_portrait.png" valign="top" bgimage-rotated="\Application Data\Home\WM7\diamond_landscape.png"/>

Keyboard Slide out Sounds....Change

Does anyone know where the sounds are for the slide out keyboard, when you slide it out there is sound EX. Piano, Wind Chimes etc. Where is the sounds located in the phone, Windows? Because it would nice to change it to what you want, or have your own sound and convert it to the sounds that would work when you slide out your keyboard. Anyone know where it is?

Got this from another thread a while back - was going to just link to it, but couldn't find it so I attached the file here.
I actually turned mine off in the end though.
thanks so much, i probably will turn mine off too, but if you can get like an mp3 song that you like and just get a clip or something or like record your own voice that would make it lot better, and where is it in the phone though? someone needs to tell me how to create cabs.
I haven't tried the cab changing the sliding sound is a bit of a process.I only just figured this out and i had some inspiration from a post on Modaco.
The opening and closing sounds are wav files stored in the \windows directory on the phone. There are three files total and the naming convention of the existing files are: 1.wav; 1_in.wav, 1_out.wav. 1_in is the sound of the slider closing while 1_out is the slider opening. I'm not sure if you have to keep this convention or not and you'll understand why in a second.
Using a registry editor navigate to: HKLM>software>HTC>SlidingSound. Here you'll find the keys for the existing slider sounds (0-2 on an ATT Tilt rom). Inside each key are three values: default, in and out. If you check the properties of each value you'll find the name of the sound and the filename for the in and out sounds.
All you have to do at this point is to copy the entries into a new key with values to match your filenames. I kept the numerical sequence (0,1,2, 3).
The more I think about it I don't think you need the 1.wav file at all just the in and out wav files but that's the info I got from the Modaco form topic about changing the slider tone for the VOX. I'll have to try and see what happens. Hope this helps.
Oh yea it does, even though i might not be able to do its great to understand or know something about it, thank you so much
OK, ive created the wav files ( default, in, out) created the new key and new string value but i dont know how to create the value data which is where i think after i get i can create a cab, but i dont know where the numbers and letters lead.
just download the attached, and the sounds will show up in the drop down. just like that.
Interesting...volume control is done through the main settings volume menu?
Hmm, I've installed that .cab posted above, but I can't find it anywhere...
I've don this a couple of times but never used a cab to get it done. using a registry edit (phm, etc...) is much easier. put the .wav file in the phone windows folder on your phone and then use the editor to write the paths. do a serch for a link to detailed steps.
thanks
thanks for the sound cab for the sliding open and closed it worked really well, just a shame the lightsabre opening clip isnt long enough, seems to stutter then nothing,as for closing it sounds perfect

Customizing your Dialer

I wasn't sure where a good place to post this would be and haven't found a thread in the Raphael or Diamond forum on this topic so hopefully I don't get flamed for starting a new thread. I asked 4 days ago in "Let's see your ATT Fuze Screens" thread on how to edit my dialer skin to make the number keys transparent so I can view my wallpaper behind it so it flows with my theme (this was after a screenshot from someone with a dialer I want and have not been able to find). I did not get back a response. Maybe I posted in the wrong thread. I am a noob, but I am trying to learn how to do things for myself. I have read the wiki and countless threads (yes sometimes the entire 200 pages), used search function within threads, within the specific forums and within the entire xda site. Alot of results come up and none are helpful. Maybe I am not using the right search terms. In any case, I've tried to find a dialer I like, but to no avail, so I would like to try and create my own. Yes, I would like to just be able to install a cab and be done, but I am willing to try and figure it out on my own with some guidance. If someone could please point me in the right direction to do this (maybe the files I have to edit and I can try and figure out how to do that myself from other threads) I would be very greatful. I would like to have a transparent key pad on the phone screen and the screen when receiving a call and be able to place my own wallpaper behind it (Need landscape as well since I have the Fuze). I think this is something others would want as well to keep there personalized themes consistent. If this thread is redundent, please point me to the existing thread.
Thank you.
Since nobody else is replying, I will at leas share what I know. Using your phone's file explorer, navigate to the device's "windows" folder and look for the two dialer .bmp files named "Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp" and "Assets_Dialer_Pressed.bmp". Those are the two files that you need to edit or replace to get the dialer to your liking. Note: there are also other files named similarly "_Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp" etc. so don' mistake the files with the underscore at the beginning of the file name. I hope this points you in the right direction. Be advised that the biggest obstacle will be finding a way to overwrite those protected files. Good luck
IM ACTUALY IN THE PROCESS OF CUSTOMIZING MY DIALER..
IM SKINNING 'UGGALO_x WHITE S2A CDMA'
customizing the dialer is no problem. the same as skinning any of the rest of the display, to get around permissions issues just use Total Commander CE to overwrite the existing file.
transparency is a problem as the dialer pad is comprised of bmp files and as such there is no transparency like you would find with gif or png (unless someone has found a transparency color and i've just missed it).
it may be possible to use your current background image as the background of the bitmap to overlay the buttons onto, thus giving the appearance of transparency. this of course comes with the downside that if you decide to change your background you would have to change your phone screen to one that matched. in addition it would not be just the files mentioned by tx_dbs_tx that you would need to modify in this scenario as the dialer only takes up the lower... oh, 3/5ths of the screen? you would also need to modify the "Calls and Contacts" / "All Calls" / "Speed Dial" fields and the field where the number you are dialing is displayed. i am not presently aware if this has even been attempted yet.
personally, i have only attempted a color change to the dialer to date, but have been successful with that. if somehow nobody else responds before i can check on the unknowns above, i will come back and let you know what i find.
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who replied. I will try and see if I can mess around with these files. I found a dialer to use for now. See thread below. I need to figure out what files are for the slide to answer screen in portrait and landscape and the dialing screen (the screen when you make a phone call). I think that is all of the screens associated with the phone. Please correct me if I am wrong.
The Vista Abstract Dialer by [email protected] found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463958
I can't upload the zip of the files. Just go to the thread above to download and break down CAB

Problems with modifed Startup-GIF´s

Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this forum and my english is very bad, because i am an bavarian noob I take my german text to the google-translator an this is the result:
I have tried to change my startup screens what has failed miserably. I have the original files with the trail version of Ulead Gif Animator processed and pushed to the Hero. The results you can see here. I have the orig. and modifed attached files. Can anyone of you tell what went wrong?
Thx,
the bavarian opallabtb
I noticed whilst browsing the Hero file system (in root somewhere) that there are a number of config files for boot and on my Orange Hero, an Orange startup animation.
No idea how you do it (rooted & text editor maybe), but you will probably have to edit these
thank you joemax for your quick answer.
There is only one xml file in the folder /system/media. It calls boot_animation.xml
I didnt touch this file. The names of the modifed files are the same as the original ones. Is it possible that the Ulead gif animator change anything in the gif file (transparent background, etc)?
greets
Sorry, I have no idea then. My depth of knowledge at this point is very poor
Can the Hero actually play the gig animation you copied across ?
I use ASTRO to browse my Hero, it plays and views images, video and gif files. Try to see if its actually playable 1st.
Sorry but thats all I can think could be causing it.
I bet you crapped yourself when you first saw that messed up boot screen
I've had a look at the gif files you're using and they differ from the originals. The ones you made, each frame has different background properties. If you look at each frame in the original, they're all 320*480 with a background colour index of 199; they all have a black (transparent) background of 320*480.
But the modified gifs have frames which don't have the same sized and colour index backgrounds, and this is the only thing I can see that would cause the problem. When you view them in windows picture viewer, they show up fine; I think it's something to do with the transparency and the fact that the first frame IS the right size and colour but the rest are not.
In fact now that I look at your video again I'm certain this is the case. I know how to fix this, what program did you use to modify the frames?
Edit: Okay maybe I should read posts better, you used Ulead Gif Animator. If you can send me the individual images of each frame I could put this together for you in a way I'm sure will work
Hi,
thank you for your support!

Help with Phone.apk mod please

I want to edit the background of the dialer from black to white, but I cannot seem to find where it is, I've went through the source and can't find it. Can anyone help with this mod?
Thanks
Ima make a judgement call on this one and say if you can't find it, most likely you shouldn't be messing around with it

If you do not recognize the name, perhaps you should not make such assumptions.
Let me see if I can find the file name, give me a few.
Edit: As far as I can tell, there is no image file for the background. From the small bit of android programming I have attempted, I do seem to recall the default background color being black. I think you probably need to edit an xml file, but I could be completely wrong. I could not read the xml files with my phone, so I could not narrow it down at all. If you agree this is the way to go, and need to know how to decrypt xml send me a pm.
I know it is not an image, I've edited all the images. I have done an abundant amount of themes. I posted the question because I have spent a long time looking though the source. It is not an xml in the drawable, it is in the source somewhere. After looking though the source though, I am starting to think it is something at a higher level than the phone.apk of contacts.apk and maye be something from the system itself, since all the apps have a black background as the default.
Since I think it does default to black, have you thought about including a new background file into drawable, and writing it into the xml somewhere.

Haven't thought that far but that may be the best solution. There are a few white themes, and it could be a nice addition to them, or even to those without. I'll look into it more when I have some more time, unless there are some people that have time to help on this project
I need help please. I have the latest source from Cyanogen. I am trying to add something to the dialpad.xml but without even doing anything yet, when I start a new project from the code, I get a lot of errors, most I can just delete files and be ok with but I get
Description Resource Path Location Type
ERROR No resource identifier found for attribute 'contentDescription' in package 'android' dialpad.xml /DialtactsActivity/res/layout-finger line 126 Android AAPT Problem

Its from the part of the code android:contentDescription="@string/description_image_button_pound"
I have spent days trying to figure out what the issue is.
Can anyone help?

I believe they use apktool but I could be wrong. I think once you have it broken down, it requires that all pictures be resized also... not sure what the percentage or anything is, but I think there's another tool that can batch resize images.
Most times you use apktool to disassemble the apk then change some values in xml files. Then build a new apk and copy the compiled xml files from the newly built one to the original one. Actually you would then need to sign the modifed apk but as the stuff we usally goes into /system it's trusted and used anyway.
As for resizing bitmaps I did it on the wallpapers not because it was needed but because it was a waste of space using wallpapers made for 480x800 and 320x480. It propably also runs a little faster with wallpapers that has the correct size for the device but noone has measured it asfaik.
As for the new VoiceSearch I did try QVGA adjusting it but for some reason my modified version didn't work so I dropped it. Also the only thing you need to pass the initial dialog is to start it in landscape mode. After that it works fine in QVGA asfaik.
thanks guys! your always helpful
Anybody want to try this for swype? I don't really like HVGA, but I can't type without swype...
