Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 issues with HTC Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Have Windows XP SP3 and Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
Problem is that the ActiveSync will not connect to the Diamond via USB. These are the symptoms on connecting the USB cable:-
1) The "Connect to PC" window pops up on the Diamond, asking whether I would like to ActiveSync (sync with Outlook) or Disk Drive.
2) I choose either one and Diamond pops a dialog to declare that the device is connected.
3) ActiveSync on my pc goes into a "connecting..." attempt, but eventually throws out a "ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows Mobile powered device" msg.
4) Diamond goes back into its Today screen, nothing happens.
I have tried :
1) disabling/uninstalling my firewall
2) checking/unchecking the Start->Settings->Connection->USB to PC->
"Enable advance network functionality" checkbox
3) Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2
4) a fresh install of windows.
****while I was at this I did manage to get ActiveSync to respond/connect seemingly for a while, during which I recall she popped up a msg saying that since I don't have MS Outlook installed, if I do proceed I can't sync contacts etc. I clicked cancel thinking I should install MS Outlook first since I do want to sync contacts, and I never managed to see this msg again****
Sorry for the lengthy post, appreciate any responses/help from gurus; noob.

I had the same problem with u also at 1st than reinstall Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5
& tick Enable Advance network functionality
now ok liao
think u got to restart pc after u install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5

Thanks but doesn't solve my problem, still.
Can I check what does you guys' Diamond show up as under Control Panel->System->Device Manager? If you look under Network Adaptors does it show up? Mine only shows up under Windows CE USB Devices->Pocket PC USB Sync. I recall that it should show up under Newwork Adaptors too?

forget to ask u did u install the prog for desktop which come with the cd?

sorry i forget wrongly.. try to install again & restart ur pc.. see how.. maybe restart ur diamond also

hello..i have the same problem..regardless of what i try it just wont sync..doesnt even
register ive connected my phone..installed..uninstalled..restarted the lot..so any ideas ?

i'm having similar problem. i'm using win xp sp2 and active sync 4.5. when i plugged my diamond to usb, the pc just showed "usb device not recognized" and it was recognized as "unknown device" in device manager.
i tried to uninstall the "unknown device" and reconnect diamond again. it worked but only once. after disconnect and reconnect again, it failed
i've tried using same cable and port for cruise and everything went smooth. dunno what it is...

replying back to my own thread.... i eventually managed to get it to work simply by changing the USB port I was using, not sure why at all.

I just got my diamond connected to my pc successfully. I simply used another usb cable.
Seems diamond is more sensitive to cable quality than other HTC devices.

HTC Diamond, problems with Windows Vista
I have so much problems syncing the Vista with the HTC Diamond. It took me one whole night and the program shows that it is halfway through the hotsync but nothing else happens. Uninstall and reinstall the Active sync programme on my Vista several times. Finally it works. The next day when I did a hotsync with my office computer nothing happens. After that when I got home Vista does not sync with my Diamond again. I do not know the problem is with Vista or my HTC Diamond... I wasted so much time troubleshooting..

I've found the solution. It had nothing to do with
Vista or with WMDC 6.1 it was a setting on my HTC S710. I removed the
following setting:
Step 1: Press Start
Step 2: Select settings
Step 3: Select (6) Connections
Step 4: Select (0) More
Step 5: Select (1) USB to PC
Changing the type of USB connection your device uses can help with problems
connecting ActiveSync.
Step 6: Disable the option - Enable advanced network functionality
Step 7: Press done 3 times
Step 8: Return to main screen.
Step 9: Uninstall unrecognized USB device in device manager (on PC)
Step 10: reboot Phone and reconnect

Hi, in my case it was the USB cable. I replaced the one I used for all my other WM devices before and now even the Diamond can connect.
Cheers,
Derek.
PS: problem and solution seen on both Vista and XP

Work for me too.
Tnx!

Hmm for those that tried and suddenly u got it once, but after that u disconnect and it disappear dont do anything extra!!!
Cos i got the same problem too! instead try to connect and remove it till u get it to sync again. It takes me the most 2 tries to get it to sync though..but if u try like maybe 5-6 times and it dont work..then i cant help sorry.
Btw i'm on Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.

This was what actually happened...i post this in another forum where people are having problems too.
"Hmm me having problems with syncing HTC diamond just now also. I'm on Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I downloaded and installed the Window Mobile Device Centre(WMDC) 6.1 as they asked me to. WinXP its AutoSync 4.5. I connect and kind of expected this stupid syncing problems will happen to me like many others..zz.
I keep on trying to play with the checkbox in the USB to PC settings(To go there its Start>Settings>Connection Tab>USB To PC), people were saying if u uncheck the box it will sync already. But now my box is checked and it still can sync
Finally i got really fed up and piss..so i uninstall the stupid WMDC program totally without even plugging out the USB cable from my Diamond. Then i restart my pc, and i went to restore the USB to PC settings to ActiveSync with the tick in the checkbox. When Vista startup, i went for 1 last try haha...i just connect the diamond to my PC via the usb cable, and wow all the drivers start to install...and it sync LOL!!! And i go to control panel and was puzzled when WMDC was there even though i uninstalled it !!
And now its just sometimes i plugin it never detect but if i plug in and out ard 1-2times again it sync! I'm a happy man now"

Yes - that's it.
I had the same problems - ActiveSync worked worser and worser - and last week no synchronisation was possible at all.
ActiveSync doesn't open or when it's opened - the PC-ActiveSync stayed grey...
Now - new Cable - not from HTC - and it works fine from the first time on

I'm using XP SP3, ActiveSync 4.5.0 and it works fine. Of course after UNticking (disabling) the advanced network functionality. This advanced network functionality is designed for Vista, not for XP&ActiveSync.
Device manager:
In Device Manager I have the device listed with a separate entry directly from the root called "Windows CE USB Devices" and not under Network or other section. The driver provider is Microsoft and driver version is 4.0.4232.0 (06.10.2004). The driver file is wceusbsh.sys.
See the attached files.
I just don't remember from where I downloaded the driver, but for sure I did not used a CD/DVD delivered with Diamond.

issues synchronising
so i'm using activesync 4.5 with XP SP2 (i think) and i cant get my device to synchronise.
i connect it to the computer and it connects perfectly (i can explore the device and install files on it from my comp and all). It then starts trying to sync, however it never does. After an extended period of time it says "waiting for network" and then just stops synchronising - without actaully syncing any of my files! on the device it says "the server could not be reached. This could be caused by temporary network conditions" as the result and gives a support code of 0x80072EFF. it reports nothing ever synced.
It syncs with another computer in the house nicely -the comp is however ancient and we are getting rid of it! I'm sure its just a setting but i cant find it! Anyone?
Cheers guys!

Issue solved!
Not to worry i found the issue!
if this happens to anyone else this is the fix i found
"Fellow frustrated users I have worked out this issue. What happens is if you restore your computer or change files or link to another computer, Activesync creates multiple datasets on the device which must confuse the program.
With the phone disconnected from the computer, open Programs, ActiveSync, Menu, Options. If you use the scroll down bar, you will find all the datasets. I deleted all the datasets and let ActiveSync create a fresh connection."

Does anyone know how to fix up Windows Mobile Device Center?

I'm trying to get my phone to connect to it...in any way...I used to be able to sync my phone (AT&T Tilt) via bluetooth, but now when I try, the phone gets user authorization, etc., (meaning IT can do what IT needs to), but WMDC does nothing.
Then, the sync fails, and the device says, "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer."
The problem...Windows Vista doesn't use ActiveSync of course...it uses the windows mobile device center.
When I try to connect via usb, then on the computer, a dealie pops up in the lower right for "safely removing hardware". It has HTC USB sync listed. My tilt tries to connect via usb, but it fails, saying the same thing, "To synchronize this device, you must install ActiveSync...blah blah blah."
I don't even know why this is happening like this...I normally don't sync too often (since I normally use my phone alone), but I was trying to get a new radio on my phone to help with another problem (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365270&highlight=call+ended+00:00 )
but I can't even sync anything, so I can't use the tool to get the new radio on.

Put your phone into tri color mode and you will be able to flash.
Power button + Camera button (hold them) press stylus into reset. HOld all 3. Tri-color screen will appear.
have you got the update to the drivers for WMDC, mine didnt work before I downloaded this update, oh and just remember, in windows, if it does work, RESTART fixes a lot of problems!
where would the update for the drivers for WMDC be?
Change the setting in USB to PC, in settings, connection tab. Try it with advanced functionality on.
I've tried it both ways. With advanced functionality ON, then the PC doesn't even recognize the device HTC USB Sync.
With advanced fuctionality OFF, then the pc recognizes HTC USB Sync, Windows Mobile Device Center recognizes nothing, and then activesync fails with the message, "To synchronize, get activesync 4.5 blah blah blah"
I used the device with an XP virtual machine I had, and XP + activesync has no problems seeing the device. However, MICROSOFT OUTLOOK in the XP virtual machine cannot see the device, so I can't correctly sync emails, contacts, tasks, or calendar icons. When I tried, the only thing that happened was that it deleted all of my calendar items (AGAIN!) and then said that "ActiveSync cannot synchronize Email, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes because Outlook is not installed on Windows PC 3. To synchronize, disconnect the device, install and run Outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
Outlook IS installed in the XP vmware (windows PC 3)...but it can't see the device for some reason.
I decided in the end that I could go without a new radio. I'll just find a way to fix my problem in a different way

With it "on", its not a USB connection. Whilst it uses the USB lead, it actually creates an RNDIS connection which uses IP to communicate. The device and pc should create a small private IP network. If your device can't even be seen by the Vista PC when advanced is on, then there is something blocking IP traffic, like an over zealous firewall. Try turning the firewall off temporarily. Also try disconnecting the pc from any other network and then plugging the device in.
I assume you have run windows update in Vista to ensure that you have the latest version of WMDC 6.1
With advanced "off", the device is using a traditional USB connection. Try deleting any existing partnerships and try a different USB port.
i have a similar problem however when mobile device center starts up it just gets the standard stopped running vista message and trys to restart unsuccessfully!
This may help you out with your problems however cant seem to resolve mine

That's an interesting way of referring to it...the thing is...I currently do have my firewall off...would a router (dorm or home) block this? Because I have NEVER gotten advanced network fuctionality to ever work--when I was at home, my dad had a router set up and when I'm on campus, the dorm has a router on.
Even without it connected to any other network, it does not work. And I am using the latest WMDC 6.1 but still, it doesn't work.
The strange thing is...it works with ActiveSync in a Windows XP vmware machine (partially...it won't allow me to use outlook)...
Deleting existing partnerships deletes more stuff from my device deletes more stuff (my contacts and calendar are gone) -_-. Deleting existing partnerships on comp doesn't help..

What I did from there was I uninstalled the drviers that correspond with the HTC Sync USB and the advanced network functionality (it's near the bottom of the link), and then I restarted again...now I seem able to sync...
i was connecting fine until i enabled vistas firewall and then it wont stop syncing. if i disable it, it will sync. i went through the exceptions list to allow sync but it still wont sync anyone know a fix?
Mobile Device Centre was working fine for me until about a week ago. Then it just stopped working ! My device was ok because it would sync in XP SP3 without any problems, but not in Vista. I tried repairinng, uninstalling, reinstalling without any success, I tried Advance Network Functionality and still no luck. I also tried disabling my firewall and trying again and still NO !!!. After searching the internet and trying the above, I nearly gave up until I decided to do the following :-
REMOVE ALL drivers related to the device i.e MS RNDIS adapter from network adapters in device manager AND the HTC USB drivers which are created when the device is connected while the Advance Network Functionality button is unchecked on your device (within settings -> Connections -> USB to PC )
UNINSTALL windows mobile device centre
DISABLE your firewall
INSTALL windows mobile device centre 6.1 (downloaded from MS)
connect your device - ensure the Advance Network Functionality button is checked
CONNECT device, let the drivers load and it should be ready to sync
ENABLE your firewall
The above method was the way it worked for me after trying numerous methods. Looking back, I believe my problem started when I unchecked Advance Network Functionality for some reason !

I don't think it's possible to get Advanced Networking Functionality to work with a Bluetooth Connection, only through USB. Even then it has to be a high quality USB port it's plugged into. My case is a good example in that I couldn't enable Advanced Networking Functionality or Activesync simply wouldn't connect. Since I was having unreliable connections from my VIA chipset old as the hills USB 1.1 motherboard ports, I installed a quality NEC chipset USB 2.0 Hi-Speed PCI adapter card and now on the same machine I can run USB Activesync connections with either option perfectly well and it stays connected until I unplug the phone. How are your USB ports?
uninstall active sync then reinstall. that is what worked for me.

ActiveSync via Bluetooth problem

Hi everybody,
It seems strange ,but after 2 weeks of good job,my Diamond can't sync
with an XP-laptop running Actisync 4.5 using bluetooth!!
My ROM is 1.37 WWE,working fine for all tasks....
Apparently the "ActiveSync service" is no more seen among the services after
pairing with laptop....
Cleared all relationship and rebooted the diamond.....nothing to do.
Other HTC devices (TYTN, Himalaya ,all with Windows mobile 6.1 work fine and syncronize via bluetooth...).
Please help me ..! I do not want hard-reset my diamond
Thanks
Have you updated your Xp to Sp3??
Search for Activesync Windows Sp3 there are several people thats having that issue.
I have had similar problems on both XP and Vista. You could try uninstalling your Bluetooth driver on your PC and rebooting. Your PC should re-install your Bluetooth drivers after reboot. Make sure the partnership is cleared from your handset and try to set up the relationship again.
If you are having the same problem I was having, then this should work for getting the two to talk to each other again. However, in my case, after I rebooted again, I would start getting "Port Not Available" errors on my Diamond.
I ended up installing the BlueSoleil bluetooth drivers on my PC and things are working much better now. If worse comes to worse, you can try them. You can run the trial version forever, but, it is limited to 5 MB transfers per session.
Good luck.
ActiveSync via bluetooth problem ...again
Thanks for all suggestions....
Yes ,i updated my Xp to SP-3,but it seems to be a "Diamond-problem" because if I use another 2 phones (HTC:TYTN-1 and Himalaya, both with Windows mobile 6.1) no problems occur when syncronizing with Xp laptop
via bluetooth........this is a matematically demonstration ,I think.....
Furthermore this problem occured just today ,while XP-SP-3 was installed 2 weeks ago.....
Thanks again
Giuseppe
Perhaps too simple, but did you activate "Transfer" (use to be called "Beam") as well? As being renamed on your Diamond it is easy to overlook.
To Rondol1
Hi Rondol1,
Maybe you mean "receive all beam" -in bluetooth settings....
Yes,sure,but it makes no difference....
Thanks
ActiveSync via bluetooth problem ...again-2
Using PHM_Registry_Editor I took a look inside:
HKLM_Sw_Microsoft_Bluetooth_Device_...._services_0001101-0000-ecc.ecc.
"name": Serial port (instead ActiveSync!) tried to change...but does not fix.
The curious is that "TYTN" -working correctly via Activesync-Bluetooth---
has the same string and values!!!! for all the other variables...
It is a mistery at the moment
Has nobody a solution for this yet?

Tomas
Well, I am not certain this will answer the question. But I had the same problem defined here and I overcame it.
1.- I was finally able to pair computer and diamond: start the pairing process from the computer and use a long password like 8 char or more. (I used o use 4 digit one and did not work).
2.- once Paired, go to Activesync in the PC and enable COM port: - "My ActiveSync" must be listed and enabled in the PC BT devices with a COM#. -then enable that COM# in the ActiveSync Connection Config
3.- Go to DIAMOND ActiveSync, Menu - Connect via Bluetooth, and the Error Appears, "No activesync Device...", Click Yes and go to COM Ports ... "Click REFRESH" (this was the key hint) and an "Activesync" service should appear from the PC. Select it, and that's it. It worked for me.
Here's a funny troubleshooting tip. Apparently Windows media Player on your pc can interfere with Activesync. make sure its not running in the task manager before trying to sync.

Cant connect bluetooth to diamond
Im having problem when i try to pair my bluetooth device "MSI star key 2" with the Bluesoleil sofware program, whem ive typed in the 4,8, 10 digid passwords i get connected but just after 3 seconds i get disconnected again, can i be sometith with the "com 19" port.
i have tried uninstalling bluesoliel software and diffrent typed of bluetooth dongel but no luck
i have a siemens gigaset SL37 that connects fine with bluetooth and sync with my outlook contacts
Perfect
I have waded my way through multiple threads trying to figure out how to get Bluetooth to work on an XP SP3 PC with BlueSoleil and activesync 4.5 and a HTC Touch Diamond. I ended up catching this suggestion of 8 digit key, and used my phone number (all 11 digits) and that solved it. it now syncs without issues.
Thanks

Help! Diamond not connecting with Win Mobile Device Center

Hi all,
My HTC diamond that used to sync with active sync on win xp wont connect to my visat home premium laptop.
I've tried tweaking the firewall (even turning it off) and still no luck - both norton and windows firewall
Tried the dvmgmt.msc things too with no luck
Any other ideas??
anyone?
I found that problem too.
Go to task manager and close instances of mobile device centre and Windows Media as this seems to play havoc with USB sync.
Take your device off of the USB cable, fire up a fresh instance of WINMO device centre and it should detect it (after selecting 'ActiveSync' on your device).
Good luck
Jamie
what I have had to do is delete the diamond profile with out the diamond connected. restart your diamond then reconnect. I think it is a problem between activesynch in xp and winmo in vista. But I have kaiser which I use for work and I have no problems connecting to activesynch or winmo.. go figure...also if you have tasks selected it won't finish synching for some reason god knows why.......
Worked for me
Try going into the "USB to PC" settings on your phone and unchecking "Advanced Network Functionality". I couldn't connect in vista before disabling that.
Hello,
I've never managed to get my Diamond sync'd with my Vista laptop using a cable but if I use bluetooth then it always seems to connect so if you have bluetooth on your pc then i'd try that and see if it works.
I tried all the usual fixes including those listed above me and none of them worked. Then I read somewhere to uninstall device center go to microsoft and dl the latest version and then install it with the phone connected. That one worked.
How do you delete the profile? will I lose data doing so? same issue with my Touch Pro. uninstalled WMDC re-installed it. re-set all of the TP settings to factory(without restoring). Still doesn't work. Any other ideas?

Problem: Windows 7 - "Windows Mobile Device Center <-> X1" over BT

Since I upgraded to Windows 7, I have been having a problem syncing my X1 with Windows Mobile Device Center over BT.
Everything works ok over USB first (Full sync), then I disconnect the cable.
Make BT "discoverable" on both computer and phone.
Open ActiveSync on the phone and choose "Connect via BT"
It says no device available and gives the option to pair with PC.
I do the pairing, both devices say pairing OK.
Then I choose "Connect via BT" again on the phone
The phone displays the usual:
1) Opening port
2) Connecting
3) Authenticated
In the end "Connected" is displayed as status.
With Win XP and ActiveSync 4.5 client that always meant - everything is OK, not so with Win 7.
On the PC:
Windows Mobile Device Center starts displaying "Connecting" (as soon as I press "Connect via Bluetooth" on the phone) and stays like that.
If I open "Bluetooth Devices" in my computer's BT settings and check the properties of "X1" I see that "Activesync" profile is checked.
What else can I do?
Additional info:
PC - Dell E6400 Win7 64bit
X1 ROM Agent_47 Valkyries 3.8.60TR
EDIT:
I got it working:
1) Deleted the relationship in ActiveSync (on X1) and WMDC (on the PC)
2) Deleted pairings form both devices in BT settings
3) Made the USB connection, got it syncing
4) Started the pairing in Activesync on the X1
5) Did not start the actual sync over BT instead restarted both PC and X1
6) After restart started Activesync on X1, it connected to PC and started syncing at last!
I'm still not sure that it will work tomorrow...
EDIT2:
Didn't even work after 5 minutes
Just disconnected and when trying to connect again... not working.
no problem for me on win 7
actually, when I had a problem with syncing over BT on Vista, I moved to Windows 7
You can try to completely remove Sync Center and WMDC or whatever could be removed, download installations from microsoft and try to reinstall. Don't forget to use windows update after reinstall. And remove all settings first, just for sure. Hope this will help you. It helped to me when my X1 suddenly stopped to syncing over BT on Vista.

Could you please post how long it takes on your system from:
Pressing "Connect via Bluetooth" on X1
to
"Connected" displayed in Windows Mobile Device Center?
That is if you start WMDC first and then start connection from X1.
On my system it sometimes takes a very long time and sometimes it's instant. Could be a problem with BT drivers on my Dell.

I've tried 4 times. 3 times it was exactly 30 seconds with unlocking X1, once it was even faster.
I have no problems with vendors BT drivers (ACER) and I had no problems with native Win 7 drivers right after fresh install.

It's a Dell laptop, so BT is integrated.
As for now it has been able to get connected most of the time.
But still is strange, with Win XP Activesync 4.5, when X1 said "Connected" after all the "opening port" etc messages - it really was connected at both ends, now I don't know what the X1 thinks it's "connected" with, cause the PC is still "Connecting"...
Have you reinstalled sync soft on you computer as I told you?
hey guys
i have the same problem buy on vista 32bit i was connecting just fine but now it connects on the x1 side while the WMDC doesn't connect giving me the error sign but the sync center is connected & i can browse my phone even install programs but no syncing i've tried EVERYTHING written in forums reinstalling programs on both sides, updating drivers, removing sd card, disabling firewall & antivirus ( i have norton suite) i don't know what to do???

ActiveSync Problem [USB can't connect]

Dear all,
sorry if this is repost.
i found it quite trouble for me, as my TYTN II suddenly stop syncing with my notebook.
it shown Microsoft ActiveSync can't recognize any port plug to TYTN ii, even if it can't sync with notebook active sync, but the phone still able to charge via USB port, anyone experience this before?
fortunately my Tytn II still able to sync via Bluetooth connection, but NOT via USB port.
Some recommended action that i've run so far:
1. uninstall & re-install microsoft activesync 4.5
2. change usb port
3. change with different notebook with activesync 4.5
4. hard reset my device
5. flash to another ROM via USB
6. etc
after doing all the thing, but the problem still there, only able to sync via Bluetooth connection.
hope anyone could give me a clue here.
thx & rgds,
What OS are you running on your notebook ?
Activsync for Windows XP and earlier
Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista, Wimdows 7
I am using Windows XP SP3 and using Microsoft Active Sync 4.5.0 build 5096
I also have tried into Windows Vista Home premium,
and couple hours ago I've tried to sync my friend O2 and it was successfull syncing with his device, and then I re-tried to sync with mine, but no hope
any clue really appreciate that
Try going to the "USB to PC" settings on your phone (probably under Settings>Connections) and unchecking "Enable faster data synchronization."
hmm, I've tried that before and still no luck,
do you think any possible hardware failure
It's possible that you have a hardware failure. However, that seems unlikely if you can flash using USB and it can connect to those other systems. Two other trivial things to try:
1) Try a different cable
2) Is "Allow USB Connections" checked in File>Connections Settings in ActiveSync? (I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, just covering the bases)

it's okay... i am looking for clue not for arguing
anyway, i've done that
1) already try 3 different cable, the last one i tried is with two devices my tytn ii and my friend O2
2) already done that too, been trying uncheck/check "Allow USB connection" in Microsoft Activesync in my Ms XP SP3 notebook.
btw flashing via SD card is applicable because it's not related with USB port right
regards,
I'm having a very similar problem. I have 2 Kaisers, one factory AT&T ROM WinMobile 6.1 and the other running a cracked 6.5 ROM.
Two computers, one Laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and a desktop running XP w/SP3 32 bit.
About a month ago all phones stopped syncing to all computers. I just get a "Unrecognized USB device" error on both computers using either phone.
Does Anyone know if MS released a USB driver update that may be causing this? I have tried every possible phone setting listed on the web, uninstalled activesync on XP and nothing seems to work. It really feels like a Windows USB issue to me. Just my gut feeling.
Doug
I have one more stab in the dark. Plug in your phone, open the device manager on your computer. There should be a device category called "Windows CE USB Devices." Expand that category, right click on the device in that category and uninstall it. Unplug your phone and plug it in again. This should reinstall the device driver. I'm guessing that the original drive got corrupted somehow.

I had a similar problem as the original poster, and it turned out to indeed be a hardware problem. The SD-card reader was faulty, and ActiveSync would not recognize the phone while an SD-card was plugged in (Nor would WM5Torage work). Removing and reinstalling drivers did not work either. The SD-card was fine, when tested in a PC reader and my Touch HD, so I figured it had to be the kaiser.
I fixed this *today* by replacing the PCB in the display part of the kaiser. Part costs about $40 (Search for item ID 380187854526 on eBay to see which part)
The disassembly/assembly instructions required are in the service manual, available at a dozen places online.
Hope this helps! (Couldn't post links )
