Good morning,
I am a newbie and I can't find what I am looking for. Sorry if this has been posted else where.
I own a TMOBILE - MDA VARIO III and having several issues. At present it runs Windows Mobile 6 profressional. I note from the microsoft site several of my issues have been resolved; plus it looks nice as well.
My question is;- How do I lay my hands on the update for Windows Mobile 6.1? Tmobile are useless and wont help. I can't obtain the update from Microsoft and HTC won't help as its a TMOBILE serial number.
Help.....
Hi,
You can find all the information about upgrading to 6.1 on the wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Also, you might want to read the rules about starting a new thred before you ask a question like this again...

This has been gone over a hundred times, if in fact you had searched you, would have found it.
WM 6.1 comes from Micro$oft, Htc " writes " the roms and include 6.1 in their roms.
T-mobile requests the rom from HTC with T-Mobile specific features added. then T-mobile releases the rom to their customers.T-mobile has NOT released a WM 6.1 rom to their customers yet.
If you still want 6.1, there are many custom roms on this site that can be downloaded to your phone.
Read the wiki. Don't start redundant threads and welcome to XDA,
According to a source, T-Mobile will hopefully be releasing WinMo 6.1 on the Vario 3 in July/August to coinside with the Vario 4 release dates....

I rang O2 today to enquire as to when a WM6 Rom would be available for my XDA IIs they said that they had no plans to release one but did say to search the net as there could well be one as there is no reason as to why the XDA IIs couldn't run WM6.
So i'm going to keep googleing but so far no joy i wish i was a good programmer lol
Well that's O2 for you. They don't have any plan of providing software upgrade to our unit, even with my atom exec. They just leave the dirty work for other developers.
They don't even have wm5 as an official update... :/
wm6 rom
i have an wm6 rom downloaded frm a torrent website but im not sure whether it is compatible with BA.
It's not. ;P

at all "newbies" here:there is NOT a WM6 for BA.
and most of us dont think that it will ever seen on our machines.
there are to many problems to port it to this device.
Is it not possible to cook a rom of WM6 using the hardware drivers from WM5 for the chipset etc of the phone?
I have no idea how to do it but i was wondering if some of the magicians out there may be able to work the old magiC?
No. It's not going to happen. We tried, we had ideas, but theres a problem with the XIP porting I believe so it isn't going to happen for us.
If it does - it WILL get posted. Don't keep asking.

appologies i have downloaded and it helmis rom claiming to be WM6 !! i think damn the con artists
Also i have seen that T mobile users are being offered a WM6 ROM on their MDA III which is the BA isn't it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-309604.html
see there we go
thats an artemis lol
ah i see i thought the MDA III was a BA
Waiting for a "...maybe it will be one for us. Hopefully"

That's bull. The ROM doesn't care on your OS, you can use MacOS for all it cares. If you have flashed a 6.0 ROM before then just flash a 6.1 ROM.
Note: you will have to Flash a 6.1 compatable radio, if it isn't included in the ROM.
If you hav'nt flashed before, read the Getting Started Link in my sig.
Ta,
Dave
What 6.1 ROM are you speaking about? One of the many cooked ROMs found in this forum or the M$ official one?
the microsoft rom, i have never done a rom burn just read up on it and consider it. kinda want to let my phone be atleast a month old before i start to burn new roms.
As far as I know the M$ 6.1 ROM has not been released but just officially announced and it's up to the manufactures to release it. I could be wrong but thats how I read it.
you are looking at a page for Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Vista, a desktop interface...
...not Windows Mobile 6.1
Here's a really naive question - if WM 6.1 hasn't been officially announced or released (least of all for the Kaiser) where do the various cooked versions of it come from, and how does anyone know that they're definitely the full 6.1, and not just some prototype-like sample? I mean, isn't there a chance that the actual 6.1 that MS announce and HTC start releasing for phones will be different?

Thats a secret of our chefs.
You may be talking at cross-purposes but there is this posting recently on the windows mobile blog

That's what I did. I think this way is best cos when you flash you REALLY feel the speed increase
But just for clarification, as boomermax said, were you looking at Windows Mobile Device Centre? If so, this is Vista's version of ActiveSync, ActiveSync can no longer be used in Vista.
Inquiry About Windows Mobile 6.1
I sent HTC an e-mail inquiring about the ROM release of Windows Mobile 6.1 for the AT&T Tilt and this was there response.
Hello Matthew,
Thank you for your inquiry
We know it is very important to have all the information on our devices. We will do our best to assist you with this information right away. HTC has no official documentation or details about the use or release of Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1. As you may be aware, all updates for our devices can be located at their respective regional web sites. If any future updates will be available for the AT&T Tilt , you will undoubtedly find it on our support web pages listed below:

Also the e-mail I sent to AT&T asking the same question, was told that the manufacturer (HTC) would be providing a ROM update if there was one... So apparently it's still a mystery!
I'd just like to point out that theres an "official" wm6.1 rom out there that vodafone use...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365058
...just incase you didnt find it before. it comes with the correct radio, and even tho its "vodafone", ive been using tmobile on it fine, so it doesnt matter if youre not using voda
Officially the Official ????

I see official ROMs all over XDA!!!What makes this one any different? When I see an Official ROM from the manufacture, then I'll be happy....
but why would a company such as vodafone not use an official rom?
or are you implying that this was never from vodafone?
but yea, if micropoop pull their finger out and release wm6.1 or even wm7, that would be nice...

I'm just saying that if I goto the Manufacture or carriers web site and see the official Update, then I will be happy and believe it's official. Most of the WM6.1 ROMs in this forum have come from leaked versions or something like that. I think It's top secret!
ahhh i see what you mean...
...tho, i'd be very suprised if vodafone actually put up useful information/updates on their site
I have MDA III with windows Mobile 6
How can i update it to 6.1?
I called them the other day....they first said that they do not have the MDA Vario III in their product range
Once they'd accepted that they do have the MDA Vario III in their range, they stated they had no plans to provide a WM6.1 update.
To be honest, I don't really think the drone who took my call really knew what I was asking for
You can, of course, flash HardSPL then install one of the cooked 6.1 ROMs - check the links in my sig for more info.

i've come to the conclusion over the past few years, that T-Mobile are absolutely useless. they never release updates, not even from WM5-6.
Ur better off flashing a 6.1 ROM, they run a lot better anyway
If u need a hand, just PM me.
err that is not exactly correct. t-mobile released a wm6 rom for the vario II a long time ago. it can be downloaded from their website
Indeed it can:

However up until the date that it was released, T-mobile phone people and even technical support were denying that it would ever happen. One T-mobile technician I spoke to even advised me to go to xda-developers instead......
Hello All,
Just wondering if anyone would be willing to give me the step by step so I can update my ROM to Windows 6.1. It seems as though T-Mobile isn't going to release it anytime soon and I would really like to update my phone. More than anything I am looking for a ROM that has the threaded SMS. I have never flashed my phone before so there is no way to get too simple in breaking down the steps. Anyone willing to help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and hard work!
This is the HTC S730 Wings not the t mobile wing. I think that the wing is the same as the HTC hermes, but just google that yourself. I state again: You are in the wrong section for the t mobile wing.

my apologies. actually it is the htc herald
Eh no worries, happens a lot.
However I believe the process is similar if you want to take a look at the HardSPL thread stickied at the top of this forum. However you should hit up the Tmo wing forum to see what the cookers have come up with for your phone.
I have an older version of touch-it i got off the wings thread, after like 20 hours of reading, and have used it ever since. Now i am back to reading countless threads, and come to the realization i have a htc atlas*t-mobile wing, and wonder if i am in the right categories for software and things. I have been happy with the rom i have installed off this category except wonder if my phone has more potential because i might not of been reading the right category for my specific phone. I have never had video working on my phone is one thing i wonder if others have. I would love any help. I do have some questions if possible, i have not just jumped in and not try understanding myself.
if anyone is willing to point me in the right direction or have a conversation on the purple T-mobile Wing, *HTC Atlas or whatever that would be sweet!
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=756
is my specific phone. does that mean there is limitations to which .roms I am using? I am ready to upgrade the os on it... its HTC 4350 Atlas - Aka T-mobile Wing...
installed coreplayer to no avail as well... thanks for reading
I dont remember what the T-mobile wing is called, but its not the S730.
Since this is the wrong forum for the T-Mobile Wing we cant offer too much help there is a forum on XDA for your phone, but I am on my phone and digging that up right now would take a while
If you got the rom for your phone off of this forum it is possible aspects of it are running less than your phone could run them at but I would only see that being a driver issue instead of Rom issue.
