Ram issue - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

hi all
in device information, it says i have 160mb of ram (128mo i think)
but in task manager it shows only 81mb
so if i run TF3D it reach 90% of ram so i can use programs like garmin, camera, or games ...
anybody had this same issue ? is this lack of ram normal or is there a way to down the use of ram or to use the whole ram ?
thanks for helping

This question has already been asked.....
You CAN'T use the whole ram because a part of it is taken from the operating system and the other programs which must run on your ppc.....
Have a look to you desktop pc ram... if you have 1000mb ram, surely at the moment you haven't 1000 mb free, but about 700mb, because windows must use a part of your ram to run.....

yes i have juste find the topic about that but this is very odd that htc does not see that tf3d is unusable with this amount of ram ??!!
so i wonder if there is a way to reduce ram comsuption or else

memory (is it too less?)

ey,
Yesterday I bought de HTC S730.
Memory:
132.29 Mb intern ROM
43.58 Mb intern RAM
Question:
Is this normal for this phone?
They promised:
256 Mb ROM
64 Mb RAM
Ok, wm6 is on it and that will use an amount of ROM.
But I don't understand the amount of RAM, it's too less.
And my phone is already slow derictly after start up (free RAM is about 10Mb.
Should I go back with it or is there a way to speed it up?
Greets,
Niels
With window's and the other app's installed on it that sounds fairly normal. The memory has a leak which is supposedly being fixed by HTC, but with window's and other things actively using the RAM I dont see any fix really boosting it too much, but every little bit helps.
If you are using the default home screen with the weather app and so forth built in your memory on first boot should be around 14 - 16mb free. Then with keeping your memory free you can keep it around 10 - 12 after a week or more of none stop use.
Theres a thread on here that talks about other tweeks you can do to clean things up and have more memory but with carefull monitoring and so forth the phone wont bog down much.
Of course closing an app and then imidiately opening another one will slow things down some...

It's normal. And the phone is usable. BTW.: if you'd try to find out some information about this (or any similar) WM6 smartphone before purchase, you should know.
ok I'm persuaded.
Thank you for the answers.

Niels
Your welcome, it is a good phone, and if you dont mind the other backgrounds or what to edit the default one you can open that memory closer to 20 free.
Enjoy

Official WM6.1 from HTC for Kaiser and amount of RAM issue...

Hello,
As you know Kaiser has 128MB of RAM. When you open Memory in settings then you can see that there is only 85.32MB of Program memory. So where is 42,68MB of RAM? Is all gone for pagepool in this ROM?
Best regards.
Just like yr desktop, everything runs on the machine need memory (RAM). OS (WM6.1), driver, start-up program, phone dialer, today ... etc.

You are talking about "in use" memory. I am talking about total memory what you can see in memory in settings...
After soft reset i have:
Total: 85.32 MB
In Use: 38:93 MB
Free: 46.39 MB
Anybody can explain me why total memory is only 85.32?

I know exactly what you are talking about. In older ROMs 6.0 and I believe some of the older 6.1, that amount was closer to the 100MB mark.
Part of that (about 12MB) is used for page pool. However almost that amount was used on the older ROMs as well, so wouldn't account for the almost 15MB disparity we see.
I have asked this question myself a couple times in the ROM development forum...no one has provided an answer. Some suggest that they are using that RAM as additional 'cache' ram of one type or another to improve performance. That seems like it could be a logical reason since whenever you increase other cache's in the registry it takes memory out of that same chunk. The other answer could be that there are newer or more low level drivers that for one reason or another are taking up that RAM.
Fact is no one knows. My bet is on cache of some point, although i can't really say that I see an improvement that would warrant that 15MB of use. There's not much you can do about it at this point other than live with the diminished memory or flash an older ROM.
Before i had HTC Himalaya (128MB of RAM) with WM5 and there when you set up 16MB pagepool then all rest of RAM (112MB) was available in memory applet. I never tried Himalaya with WM6 ROM so i can't tell how much memory was available then. However, thanks for your reply. Regards.

How much memory left do you have?

Hello everybody,
I would like to know how much memory left you have. The only programs I installed are spb GPRSMonitor, Schap"s Advanced Configuration Tool and DinarSoft MemMaid. I know I have 196MB for Ram size, but when I click on setting memory, I have only 40.25 MB free...
Not much more than with my previous Eten X500+, which had only 64 MB.
Thanks in advance,
Philippe
Same problem here, I think the current ROM has a problem...
Diamond :
Total - Storage : 83mb + Programs : 113 = 196Mb
Touch Dual :
Total - Storage : 122mb + Programs : 101 = 223Mb
Isn't the Diamond supposed to have more memory than the Touch Dual, and what's with the storage memory being 40Mb less !
I thought ROM is the one used for storage and RAM is used for processing of data by the OS?

Yes it is... but some people still don't seem to get it...
haha okok...
anyway, what's your "idle" (no programs running other than your Touchflow and no other connections switched on) percentage of memory usage?
the lowest I can go is 61% which I feel is considerably high. I've already applied all the tweaks. Probably explains the slight lag.
How are you seeing 61% ? If you check off Touchfo3D in the today settings I hope it doesn't still start it...
the lowest i can go is 56%. and this when nothing is running except the touchflo3d,and phone is on in 3g mode with connection, also every page of tf3d is loaded(weather, progs, contact etc.)
still it says that there is 63.63mb in use of ram and now i have 49.46mb of free ram. thats the same i had on my kaiser!! very strange.
They say the phone has 192mb ram? i only see 113.08mb as total ram??
cant wait till touch pro comes out
Touch Flo 3D has memory leak issues. The longer u use, the less ram u'll have.
ok but still I get the RAM/ROM thing, but anyone knows where the rest of the RAM is? (192-112MB) I guess the 256MB rom is also used for other stuff as external rom etc.

i think the memory used by the OS is not shown..
only memory used by the programs that you run are shown
hope that helps..

Extreme HW mod: RAM expansion

Hi guys!
I'm getting out of ram problems and I notice that my device is just fast as hell with pagepool set to 0 (zero)... but that means just more ram usage.. yes, I know that there are many applications designed for freeing ram but that's just too simple and although those programs doesn't work correctly with some applications, causing sometimes an integrated application to malfunction.
now i'm writing from my diamond with 0pagepool.. yes it's fast.. but for example if i want to leave opera running in background for running another application, I'll get out of ram error...
Point of all is...
Is it possible to desolder the actual ram chip for soldering a larger one (in terms of MB)?
Thank you!
i'm not a scientist - but i have read threads where they've said it's not possible... but good luck! i'll be keeping an eye on this thread

Increase ram on htc touch diamond

Is there a way to use the internal storage to increase the ram, like virtual ram? With this we could install more software without memory fail.
Thanks

not sure about using the storage as a RAM drive, but if you want to install more software you should choose to install it to the storage card when you are given the choice at installation time
Yes, I know. But the memory usage increase.
Same problem, I have installed apps on my internal mem but it still used the system memory.
An electronics shop that can upgrade the memory would be sweet! I own both Touch Pro and Touch Diamond and I love the Diamond's size and weight, but the Touch Pro lets me install away.... The same amount of memory on a Touch Diamond and the SD card option is where HTC failed. Heck, even the regular Touch had SD!
check this out dude...

Just install a custom ROM and you'll get plenty of more RAM than on a stock ROM.
that is true to a certain extend but....
wouldn't it be sweet if you could upgrade the ram hardware. how hard can it be?
(probably impossible)
Add additional RAM
Hi,
I checked this thread which is 1 year an a half old. Is that still impossible to create a kind of partition in the internal storage that can be used as Additional RAM?
Isn't it what Android systems installed on HTC diamond already do?
Here is an explanation why pagefiles weren't implemented in WM5:
blogs @ msdn @ com/b/windowsmobile/archive/2006/03/31/566187 @ aspx
(change ' @ ' to dots - can't use links yet:])
Since for example Desire HD has 1.5gb of internal storage & 768 MB RAM, and (at least on PCs) it's common to set pagefile size to double the amount of RAM I think it won't be implemented in any version of windows mobile soon.
Android has modified version of standard linux kernel which has support for swap partition since almost always and that's why we can use it on Diamond.
And we use it because Diamond has less RAM than it's sufficient to smoothly run Android.
But I really don't think it is widely used in devices created to use Android as an OS.
Anyway, apps that use a lot of data(opera, google maps etc) use it's own cache file on disk, media players also reads data from files while playing so I really don't see necessity to have a swap file on WinMo unless you want to run like 15 apps at once.
And if you want your diamond to look like hd2, you have to live with the fact that it will work slower than the os and apps created for diamond.
Hope I answered your question
