Diamond voice quality issues.. - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

i've looked through the htc forums and found other people with this same issue (the Unlocked HTC Diamond thread, http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1458316/Ulocked+HTC+Diamond ) but haven't been able to figure out a solution, nor has anyone had much response. I have tried calling the US HTC support number, but since it hasn't been released in the US, the guy just said try hard resetting (which I'm trying now), or call back when the RMA dept is open in the morning (@()#*&[email protected])(#$&!!!!!).
All my out going calls, people say my voice is very raspy, or sounds like it's "digitized" or that I was a heavy smoker -- I recorded my self on a spare phone I had and I agree -- the voice is all messed up.
Is this a known problem? Is it something that needs to be fixed by getting a replacement under warranty? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same problem, I'm trying now withthis, manually set the gsm freq. to 850/1900. Last 5 calls have been succesful. Still testing.

HTC Voice Problem
Yes, I have the same voice quality problem. i spoke to the HTC Costumer Service. They said some Bullcrap about the Frequencies being different cuz its not released in USA yet. I bought enough Phones that wernt released in US and i never had this problem.
THIS IS A VERY MAJOR PROBLEM for $650 phone. and HTC is being no HELP.

yah... i'm going to see how it goes w/the RMA dept tomorrow... ugh, what a pos (phone wise)

same problem here. I am disappointed but yet glad I am not the only with this problem. Maybe we can get it resolved.

what carrier are ya'll using w/the diamond? I'm using ATT... perhaps it is a carrier frequency issue?

tmobile USA, only gsm 850/1900 works here.

Diamond and low 3G Signal

I own a Diamond since yesterday and have noticed having problems with 3G carriers (specifically H3G Italy) searching on the net I've seen that many people from different countries have the same problem. I think that the problem should be the radio rom shipped with the diamond. Actually I tested 1.00.25.03/05/06 all with poor signal or loss of signal or roaming.
I adviced HTC of the problem (saying that 3G signal is very poor) indicating the os rom and the radio rom.
Everyone that has the same problem should notify HTC on this form http://www.htc.com/europe/CS_Mail.aspx
so, perhaps, can begin working on it.
albatross
SEARCH Junior!!!
Agree with this 3G signal dows not improve on all Radio ROMs
I can confirm this.
I had a TytnII before I got the Diamond, and I tested them for a week against each-other.
The TytnII had 3G coverage about everywhere I live, but only 3-4 bars.
The Diamond mostly have 1 to nothing...

Hi Sergio,
what do you mean? Should I search the signal or should I search somewhere else here on the forum? I didn't find nothing but I'll give another look.
Any hints?
Hopefully the .16 rom will improove things a bit. I really hope that its a rom issue and not a hardware issue.

Do you know when it will be released?
There is a rom in the raphael forum with it but its the whole rom and not just the radio. I've emailed HTC - doubt ill get a responce. I'm suprised there isn't greater interest in this problem.
Incidently i think the .11 radio gave me slightly better 3g reception.

I have sent htc an email, I got an automated reply saying that somone would look in to it soon. We shall see.
ohh, you all have send a mail,
i have also send a mail, since the end of June, i think 4 emails and nothing happens,
everytime when i visit htc-e-club, there is a song in my head >
i`m waiting,waiting, for you... *lol*

It looks to me that HTC has rushed the release of this phone before they properly tested it (most likely to coincide with the release of 3G iPhone). They are using us, their customers, to test it for them.
The 3G reception here in Australia is very bad (never above 2 bars) and it constantly switches over to GSM, which in some cases causing for a call to be dropped. Pathetic.

Hi broncos nice to see you I think tomorrow I will call HTC by phone
i wondering if there is a Serie of devices which have those problems ,
2 of my collegues have also a diamond , in the same room with the same Provider , i have NO or 1bar when they have full ??
Now i tried alot of ROM's and i came to the conclusion to send the Device to HTC, so i have to flash back to SSPL ...
1st HTC and no luck ...
The same problem in Spain with the carrier "Yoigo". I have already sent the appropriate message to HTC.
I have send email past week but I don't have answer.
I think it's a big big problem!!!. What HTC doing to solve it?
it does nothing???!!!
Hi guys
3G is not everywhere yet even here at my place it often goes down depending on where I am.
But when I have this problem and look at my friends Iphone he has the same problem. So I wonder if this is a diamond\Iphone or a provider problem?
Grtzzzz
it's 3 years that i use only 3G phones and only with diamond i have this problem (i read also iphone has the same problem)
but it is sure that the problem is of the diamond (and iphone) because all the other phone dont' have problem (also 3Gphones pay 20/30euros have no problem!!!)
I just hope that its a software problem rasther than a hardware fault.

I'm so sorry this has to be my first post..

Hey XDA - I've been a browser forever, but I just signed up;
because I am in diiiiiiiiire need of some help.
I'm really sorry this has to be my first thread.
I promise I'm not a troll, and I promise I'll contribute as
much as I possibly can!
I have a situation I am in -
I currently have a Nexus One, on T-Mobile U.S.
It's completely stock, no hacks or roots, mods or anything.
To make a long story short - I'll be switching phones and providers soon (Evo), but I would like to give this phone to my girlfriend, who happens to live in the United Kingdom. She's on the O2 network, and has all the data/plan stuff covered already, I just need to get the phone working for her when she pops in her SIM card.
From what I've gathered, it seems like the Nexus One WILL work on O2 with both 2G and 3G speeds, if this is true; can someone verify?
"O2 use 2100MHz for 3G and 900/1800MHz for GSM (2G - Voice/GPRS).
The Nexus One supports these frequencies for both services."
Also, I've never unlocked, or rooted a phone before. This phone would NEED to be unlocked for her to be able to use it, right? Is it possible to unlock a phone without rooting it? I really am new to all of this. She's not a power user, so I'd like her to keep the stock build and get all the updates. Is that possible? To unlock the phone and keep everything stocked?
Can someone maybe help with that? Or should I just follow one of those guides to "unlock and flash the rom" guides that I've found all over the internet? I really want to just keep everything stock for her, with the exception of the phone being unlocked.
Whatever happens, will the Android market still be working for her?
Does anyone know how Google Maps would work on the phone for her, in the UK?
I'm basically in love with the girl, and we're trying to do everything we can to make the best of a long distance relationship. The main reason I want her to have an android phone (mine) is for her to be able to use Fring with me, and Google Chat - so I'd really hope those apps worked in the UK.
Any help on unlocking this bad boy is much appreciated.
Thank you XDA,
You guys are awesome - and I have all the respect in the world for you.
Hey Dude,
my US Nexus is working fine on O2 here in germany and there are no problems with 3G and 2G, so no worries. And afaik no Nexus One is sim-locked.
Hope this helps.

That actually does help a lot - but,
did you purchase the unlocked Nexus from Google?
I can't confirm, but I've heard that both are different,
the T-Mobile version being sim locked.
I also have the APN settings from O2 U.K already
- I'm aware of that part.
Hi, I am on o2 in the uk and the nexus works Just fine (2g & 3g). Also, I thought the nexus wasn't sim locked, I certainly never had to unlock mine.

Thank you
Europe uses the same bands in every country. Its a direction from the European Union so every phone bought in Europe will work in every country in Europe.
Coincidentally, T-MO US uses the same bands so you won't have any trouble with it. I have the T-MO US version here in Romania and works fine on 2G and 3G.
I don't think its sim locked. You should put an att sim in it, although you're only gonna get 2G. But that will show you if its sim locked or not.
I am pretty sure that although Google were selling the Nexus with a T-Mobile option there are no sim- or netlocked Nexus Ones - simply for the fact that Google did not want that. That is also how Vodafone handles the Nexus distribution here in germany: There is an option for a bundle with a contract and the Nexus you get with it is not sim- or netlocked.
Also, to answer another question of you: Yes, your gf will be able to use all functions (market, maps, etc.) without any rooting-action necessary.

That was a genius suggestion.
Popped in a co-workers ATT sim, and it worked
just fine with absolutely zero issues. Thank you!
AHHH I am so relieved. DDDDDDDDDDDDDD!
Siggi : Thank you also for that bit of information, you guys really just took a huge weight off my chest.
1. It will be fully functional on the provider you specified.
2. There is no such thing as SIM-locked Nexus.
3. It's fun using Fring video to show people places.
just for our your clarification: EVERY NEXUS ONE SOLD IS UNLOCKED, and, IT WILL WORK IN THE UK.
Settled.

Exactly.
I also got a Nexus One from Google US and it's working without any problems in germany.
Just remember, even though your Nexus One is unlocked, if you are on contract with T-Mobile and you cancel early, you will have to pay an ETF.

God Damn Vodafone!!!!!!! why!!

So much for everyone recieving the full froyo update!
as usuall vodafone balls everything up for all us users. It makes no sense unless they are removing features as the explanation around emergency calling doesnt fit, in that case users using a nexus one roaming on vodafone wouldnt be able to emergency call.
Nexus One customers that bought the phone from Vodafone will be getting Froyo, albeit a little delayed. We have to make a few changes to Froyo to optimize it for the Vodafone network (small stuff around Emergency calling, etc.), so it will take at least another couple of weeks (changes + testing).
Apologize for the extra delay, but please understand that this is a large scale deployment with lots of intricacies and we have to be prudent. I can assure you that we are striving hard to get Froyo out to all Nexus One customers ASAP.
Thanks for your continued support!

now how do i unlock my bootloader.
What if I bought my N1 directly from Google
I wish they would be more verbose about the actual issue.. surely anyone who has bought their phone direct from Google should be having certain issues with Froyo in Europe then?
So is that all EPF21B handsets? I didn't get mine from Vodafone, I bought it from Phones 4 U and put it on a voda iPhone tarriff. AFAIK I could've put it on any network.
I guess it's registered on the vodafone network now...

all EPF21B handsets are assigned to vodafone, some phone shops might sell you it as another network, but they were meant to be vodafone only.
So yes unfortunatly all EPF21B phones have to wait for whatever crap google are doing to it, and given the amount of time they are saying it is gonna take i doubt it will be just minor changes like they say.

You did get it from vodafoe albeit through a phone shop.
Definitely couldn't have put it on any network. Phone are supplied from the networks not phone shops.
Think they need to 'optimize' out the tethering ability?
I stand corrected (said the man in the orthopedic shoes). Cheers for the info guys.
So all this talk of all the updates for the N1 coming direct from Google with no interruptions from the networks was all pie in the sky?

Being an unlocked phone you can use any networks sim in it but it would still have vodafone customized firmware. Doesn't make it O2s phone by using O2 sim in it.
You said it couldn't be used on any network, I was saying this is incorrect. Am not saying sticking in a sim from another operator magically changes the firmware.

Have you tried flashing the new FroYo at all or are you worried about voiding warranty?
I thought there was a version which would update all firmware versions?
I wanted to stick it on one of the guys at works' phones but he didn't want to. He's on a VF contract with the phone coming from VF.
I bought mine sim free from Google and stuck my contract sim in and rooted within a month. Never looked back to be honest.
You should consider it and if something goes wrong, just go straight to HTC or claim on your own insurance (home or phone specific).
I wouldn't hang around waiting for VF to sort it out, they'll probably bastardise the firmware anyway and lock out stuff.
Damn, some of you people are dense.

Surely any worth while improvements would be in Froyo to benefit everyone, I can't see Vodafone running something that is unique to their network otherwise every single phone they release would need specific software to them.
Also isn't there other networks in Europe supplying the N1 that isn't Vodafone but use the same build? I do fear this is more about removal of tethering, as there is people on here running Froyo just fine on Vodafone's network.
Maybe there's hope for tether after all
Hey guys, I have an AT&T nexus1 now running frf85b on Vodafone in East Africa. Tether doesn't work already because of a DNS problem. I am pretty sure it's not a phone or computer problem, but some discrepancy between Voda and Froyo. Perhaps Voda is getting that worked out in their network before releasing frf85b. Or a different froyo build is on it's way, but either way, this seems like there may be hope for tether. If they didn't want you to have tether they could give it to you broke now.
Thats bull****...
Not everyone in europe uses Vodafone. I bought it from a retailer.
Since VF is the only provider with the n1 they also got it from VF.
Most people arent even using VF as their provider. Why should we need VF-specific ROM versions?
Vodafone forums are reporting another 2-3 weeks, which is why I unlocked the bootloader & am now running FRF85B.
Ha! up yours Vodamoan, I'm using an O2 sim anyways! LOL!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/jun/29/android-froyo-google-update
there you go.
This update is not going to include any unique features for vodafone, neither is it going to include any improvements over the froyo which is already released. think about it why would google give a better version to voda rather than its own customers. neither is this update because of emergency calling like google claims, as to pass fcc rules the phone must be capable of creating emergency calls anywhere where there is reception, wether that be a us phone in the uk or vice versa it makes no difference.
this could be google making some changes to optomize it for vodafones network, but then the question is why dont other networks need optomized versions?
voda has made it clear in many sources it isnt happy about tethering on android or other phones as they fear it will cripple their network like att in america. so is it just coincidence that they have asked google to make changes? highly unlikely, more likely is google is either removing or limiting tethering on the vodafone version.
Quite how this will stop people tethering when they can just switch firmwares is beyond me.
Just a shame vodafone and to some way google (by agreeing to change it for vodafone) are going completely against the openness of android. Infact google themselves stated a few weeks back that they werent happy about the fragmentation of android, yet they themselves are fragmenting it for the benefit of a network.

Calls go to Voice mail

So i just wanna ask you guys that are your Incredible S has this kind of feature:
Very often when somebody try to call to me, call goes straight to voice mail.
Even if i got full bars of reception in my Incredible S.
What i read from finnish forums this is very general feature especially when you got Elisa network teleoperator.
So the main thing here is that if you have these kinds of problems let me know that are you in Finland or somewhere else and what teleoperator you have?
My phone has been in maintenance four times and it didn't help at all..
I try to have my money back from the seller but their report say that this is not the HTC's fault but the teleoperator's fault.
So now i have Incredible S with Elisa network and they didn't work together..
Disable voicemail with operator. Might help.

Thanks for the advices, but do i need flash rom and something else before i can update the radio?
Because i have case now with between seller, network operator and consumer agency.
Main reason why i asked that from you is that i get the right answer that who's fault is that.
Because network operator says that this is HTC'c fault, Seller says that this is network operator's fault. Consumer Agency says to seller that they have to give me money back for the device... But they don't give...

German Galaxy Note bought from Singapore, now has bad radio?

I bought my Note on EBay, received Jan 3rd. Jan 29th the radio started acting up. It goes from H+ to H, 3G, E then G, then "no service", or sometimes from E to no service, then back to H+, then over again. Weird thing is, if I'm streaming [email protected] 128kbs or HQ video, it has no trouble doing it, even for long periods of time, flawlessly. I'm not being throttled, replaced sim card, tried all the APN's I could find, with the same result. As far as I know, nothing changed from the time It worked fine, to when the trouble started. I factory reset it twice also. I know Samsung US can't/won't help me, I called to make sure. They couldn't even give me a number or email to Sammy UK.
Any one experience this, and fix it? Did a setting get screwed up? How would I get Warranty work done? Or am I just screwed. I did register at SammyUK, submitted a trouble ticket. Also contacted the eBay seller, but haven't heard back, and probably won't.
I spent $700 on this thing. Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated.

Hi there. I live in Finland and bought my Note from Amazon Germany. Not exactly the same situation but never faced the issues you mentioned.
Did you try to update your device? I really doubt if the problems are caused by APNs- To me it more or less sounds like a problem with radio of the phone. I assume you are not rooted? If you would be, you could try flashing some other modem as it might help.
AT&T is notorious for coming with innovative ways to hassle the customers with non AT&T branded smartphones on their networks too....just a thought.
flash a new firmware that belong to you country.

Thanks for the replys. The seller responded and said they will take care of it. Thank goodness!
