HTC Touch Diamond - GPS doesn't work!!!! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
I've just got my HTC Touch Diamond, and I can't get it to find ANY satellites in either Google Maps or TomTom Navigator 6. It has worked on a couple of occasions - both programs have been able to locate satellites, but only once or twice, and only after about 30-40 minutes searching.
I've got a Touch Cruise as well, and the one thing that always worked very well on it is the GPS, particularly with TomTom. Within a few seconds, the Cruise ALWAYS finds at least a couple of satellites, even indoors. The Diamond never seems to be able to find any, even when I stood on top of a hill in open ground for 45 minutes yesterday!
I'm guessing it's a configuration problem or conflict of some kind, given the fact that it HAS found 4-8 satellites a couple of times. The GPS settings in Windows are precisely the same as on my Cruise (COM4 and 4800 baud), the QuickGPS is up-to date, and Assisted GPS is active according to Advanced Config.
One thing I did notice is that TomTom Navigator 6.03 doesn't give me the option to select 'Built-In GPS Reciever' on the Diamond (my Cruise TomTom is set to 'Built-In GPS Reciever). I have to select 'Other NMEA GPS Receiver' and set 4800 baud and COM4. It DOES seem to find the GPS device, but it doesn't find any satellites (except once or twice). I thought this might be the source of the problem, until I tried Google Maps and found that that couldn't find any satellites either. Running the Cruise and Diamond side-by-side, the Cruise finds a good number of satellites in just a few seconds, whereas the Diamond is still searching for its first after an hour!
Has anyone else had this problem on the Diamond, or with WM 6.1? Does anyone have any clue how I might be able to resolve it? Right now, I'm feeling that I've been suckered into buying yet another HTC device that simply doesn't work properly. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob.
P.S. I can't get SRS WOW to work on the Diamond either. All sound output just disappears completely, and when I launch the SRS WOW application it says that no driver is installed. No amount of soft-resetting has resolved it, and in the end I had to uninstall SRS to get my system sound back. Does anybody know how I can get SRS WOW onto the Touch Diamond?

doesn't the diamond have tomtom 7 built in or something? try the tomtom 7 cab floating around if you don't have it.

Why not post this in the diamond forum.
Or, even better, read the FAQ, search like it says, then get here http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...d+gps&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

YEAH THE GPS ON DIAMOND DON't WORK!!
Yeah, I was so excited buying my diamond.. I always keep accessories brand new so incase I resell for any reason..so the first time I charged it up w/ a usb cord and it died in a couple of hours. I thought it needed to be charged from its own charger. So I took out the charger that came w/ it, charged it fully and it died again in 3-4 hours of using it. I was super angry. So, finally I am lookin around for the gps ( navigation ) software, only to soon realize that there is none. So, I put in the application cd that comes w/ the phone to find out that there isnt any apps on it. Anyway I install an old version of google maps on the phone that I used w/ my palm treo and realized it only picked me up w/ in 1100 meters of where I was at. I thought it was the old google and the new one would of had better gps locationing, but now that I read your blog and find out that this phone really sucks for real, I am super angry!! I just paid $799 for this crap! I should of stayed w/ my big e90. I even registered a name on this site just to tell you I agree, I will keep bugging HTC until they send me something new and fix it. They can atleast send me that cool dock they have on their website. And how did u get the tom tom for it?????????? Koda

Works with Tomtom 6
The GPS on my diamond works with Tomtom 6. Select "Other NMEA GPS receiver", Baud rate 4800, Com4. It even gets GPS signal inside my apartment, better than my stand alone GPS.
Edit: Just tested with google maps, GPS works well.

Htc Touch Diamond Gps
ISN' THe phone suppose to have built in GPS? As in the NOkia e and N series?

Gps Does Work
I Did Not Have Gps Selected In Pll Up Menu

I finally got it working
I've been having the exact same problem with Tom Tom 7. It would either say "No GPS device!" or it would have terrible signal so I couldn't get a lock. The solution was to Turn off assisted GPS and reset the diamond. Now i get a lock in 10 to 15 seconds when indoors!
And on a personal note, I just wanna say a HUGE thanks to everyone who posts on this forum and the guys who run this (even the guys posting problems and not solutions) it's been a huge help (and good reading) ever since i stubled onto this site.
Thanks, Aaron

HI,
were can I Turn off assisted GPS?
In TomTom 7 do you use internal GPS antenna? Or NMEA?

Guys,i have tried every single way on this page to get a GPS signle on my HTC Diamond but it always says "NO GPS Device" on Tomtom 7 or "No GPS reciever" on Google Maps, ...etc.
And there is no QuickGPS utility or Assisted GPS in my setting, programs, or setup CDs. There is only the External GPS on the Settings-System.
I am afraid that the GPS is actually closed or disabled somehow.
Please if someone has found a solution or knows how to unlock the headset's GPS, post a reply.
I really like tha phone but feel like a sucker because of the GPS thing.

same problem no gps
Have the same problem - baut i have the quick gps program - tried everything but not even after 30 minutes it finds a satelite

Mine never gets a signal inside, but outside it seems fine. Try something like this an go stand outside for a bit

I'm in the same boat as you Europeart.
And it's very frustrating!!!!!
Have a T-Mobile Compact IV with the Tomtom 7 package I found on this forum. I didn't get any voices but after downloading and installing the free map it can't find the internal GPS. I thought this rip was for the diamond, so it should work exactly the same!?
Added to the Google Maps will only triangulate my nearabout position with the use of cell phone towers. I can't find anything to play with the GPS and I've never managed to pick up any satellites even with that little app that downloads their positions.
Has anyone figured this one out?

quickgps
after trying everything I tried to make a hard reset thrue the menu (delete memory - en español borrar memoria) - pero me ha borrado la memoria incorporada (4GB) y no la memoria del movil ni un hard reset. With volume down - enter (round button) and soft reset with the pen (red button in penhole) pressing some seconds until you see a white display I got it - but I had to install everything - contacts, too.
But now it works - first time took 2-3 minutes, second time only 3 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!
great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope it don't change again - somebody knows?
thanks everybody for help inhere

More than one Navigation software!!!
Hi,
I had troubles with HTC Diamond GPS where I had to Hard Reset the phone to get the GPS working.
There is a suspicion on GPS problems with HTC Diamond!!
I have 2 navigation software, TomTom 7 and IGO, and of course the built-in Google Map. However, earlier when I had problems, I used to open tomtom try it, close the problem, and open IGO, play with it and close it.
The GPS then stopped working. I hard-reset the phone, and installed again both software but used only one, IGO and opened Google Maps but didn't use the GPS.
However, today, I opened Google Maps, used GPS and closed it. Now I am trying to open IGO and use the GPS but stopped working. Having the problem again.
Can anybody please confirm my suspicion on the problem which is that you cannot use more than one navigation program on HTC Diamond as somehow it hangs on the internal GPS and maybe blocks it?
Did anybody try it??

Following
Or maybe only between IGO 8 and TomTom 7 when the GPS hangs!

Hi,
I've just bought an HTC TD too, being the impatient, rather than the academic, type I registered with TomTom and went straight to their support page (shortest distance between two points etc...). There you will find the instructions to configure TomTom/Diamond GPS settings 'Configuring the built-in GPS receiver on your HTC device..'
It works.
I see that, if you haven't done so yet, you need to go to the HTC site and update to the latest ROM too - gives you quad band and a speedup. You have to register there too!
NoData is a useful program.

I had the same problem...
A-GPS on, with TomTom 7: no fix. When I turned A-GPS off everything was fine.
I would like to know wether A-GPS should be supported by the nav-software in order to work, or that A-GPS isn't well implemented in the Touch Diamond.
Does anybody have a clue about that?
**** EDIT ****
I got this from another forum:
it will work if you set the baud rate in TT to 2400. Otherwise turn agps off and it works at the regular setting. Haven't really notices a difference in performance one way or another.

I tried this, but it didn't work for me (even other baud rates)...

Hi All!
I have install IGo8 on my diamond. It’s OK. GPS Device founded. But it can’t receive information from satellites. Visual GPS program show me 15 satellites in view but anyone in use. Why? What I should do?
I did HR. Was at the street. Get off battery. But nothing.
Help me please!

Please report your GPS experience

For the lucky people who got their Kaisers already, would you please report your experience regarding the built-in GPS please specially the initial cold fix as it was very slow with the Trinity P3600
TomTom 6.030 does not work, instead you have to install the TT version 6.0.32 from the accompanying CD. The first fix (after QuickGPS ran) was almost instaneaous and a lot faster than on the Athena.
Agreed; and, at least in Google Maps, the position is more accurate than the Ameo.
For batterie Life
Hello,
Can you post hte comment of batterie life when you use the GPS.
For example: the phone
the telephone is load completely (100% full batterie) and when you use 1 hour of gps
how much battery it remains?
Thanks.

Am running 6.030 now!
Don't ask me how or why but it's working fine.
Joe
I now verified that on TT6.030 you have to use "Other NMEA GPS/4800Bd/Com 4: and on TT6.032 you can stay with "Internal GPS"
In any case, TT6.032 with "Internal GPS" the fix is aqcuired a lot faster than on TT6.030
TT6.032 is supplied with the TyTNN II on the accompanying CDRom
(TT6.032 incidentally does not allow itself to be installed on any other device, the installer prevents that, but after installation on the TyTN II, the directory can be copied to for instance the x7500 to replace the old installation there, and it will work fine. My first impression is that also on the x7500 with TT6.032 the fix is faster, but I still need to run the "dinner table test" )
its working fine now after i installed the version on the cd. thanks. my MapKing chinese version also working, GREAT!
When you use tt6.32 from the CD, can you use any tt6 map? or is it locked to 1 map only?
Can you have multiple maps with the tt6.32 from the CD?
Can you confirm that the version supplied with TyTn II i.e., TomTom 6.0.32, is a FULL version ? Licences? or is it a taster and you have to pay to register it as a full version? If it is full, does it come with Great Britain Maps (full) or you have to download them? In case of download, is it free?
Thanks
The CD version of TT 6.032 that comes with the Kaiser is as full as an update one would dowload from TomTom. There is no code. There are no maps either. One can download one area map (f.i. London) for free, but no country or continent maps are added. Those will have to be purchased separately.
If you install it on top of an already installed and registered TT6.0x0, it will not ask for a new code. Any old registration will remain valid.
On another note, sitting side by side in my car, I noticed that the x7500's GPS reception was a lot more consistent then the TyTNN II's. The TyTN II may acquire its fix a lot faster, but on the whole, the x7500's reception is better (even though my "dinner table test" would lead to believe otherwise) and more consistent.
While my x7500 had a permanent reception of 9-10 satellites (albeit with shorter bars) the TyTN II was jumping up and down between 3 and 7 satellites.
I currently use my Hermes in an 'in car' holder, with a bluetooth GPS reciever face up in the window. One thing that I would like to know, is that if I was to get a Kaiser and put it into my car holder, surely the orientation of the GPS reciever inside the Kaiser would be 'end on' to the sky, and the satelites.
This must affect performance?
I got mine this morning. Took me quite a while to get GPS working -- had to do a hard reset. It's now working with Route 66, which I used to use on my Wizard.
GPS data seems a bit bursty -- when I was viewing it with GPSViewer, I'd get a bunch of NMEA strings, then nothing for several seconds, then another burst.
Hum..seems to be same issue than Paul from Modaco :
"The GPS bug seems to occur with some applications whereby the GPS 'data stream' will pause for a few seconds at a time, which makes some apps think the GPS has gone away (e.g. Google Maps) and other apps just update in sudden jumps rather than smoothly." ?
Seems that HTC did not fix it in the final ROM.
Do you know if HTC is aware of this issue and plan to fix it ?
Thanks
don't know if i've encountered the bug but here's my situation: i cannot get the GPS Hardware Port (or COM) settings to "stick" after changing them. for example i can change GPS Program Port and it will stick but changing the Hardware Port and clicking OK has no impact. if i reopen the GPS settings, the Hardware Port shows "(NONE)". and this is after 4 hard resets. funny thing is that is worked when i initially set up my device, then all of a sudden, TT6 was reporting "No GPS Device"... it may be time to pack it up and return it for a replacement... any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update: Followed Paul's (on Modaco) suggestion to leave the default settings and now GPS is working.
Which Navigation programs work in landscape mode???
for those of you with a Tytn II, are you able to modify the GPS Hardware COM port from one setting to another? the fact that mine says "(NONE)" is leading me to believe i have a hardware defective unit. thanks.
Kaiser and mapking 2007
ive tried mapking 07 on kaiser and it doesnt work. It juz cannot pinpoint the location that I am at. I wonder if its the software problem??
I installed TOM-TOM from the HTC CD and it has worked with out problems, even installed US MAPS from another Tom-Tom CD I have from the original version. Only problem so far, once I was using it and received an SMS message and it locked up. Had to restart. Receiving email is fine but the SMS message freaked it out.

Hw6510 & TomTom 6

I have just installed TomTom 6 on my HW6510. I can get the sound working by renaming the file BtCoreIf.dll. However I can't select the internal GPS receiver by following the instructions on a previous thread.
I deleted the file Navigator (under the directory navigator) - on restarting TomTom it just asks me for preferences (language, left / right handed etc..) it does not give me any options for selecting the receiver.
I must be missing something but don't know what.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dump tomtom
had loads of never ending issues with tomtom on my 6515. between map errors , no sound, hig system requirements and plain bad programming i eventually followed a complaint thread at pda4x.com and decided to go with IGO. never looked back, even dumped tomtom off my wifes pda and installed IGO for her as well.
Possibly its just the Australia maps that are that bad on tomtom but i find IGO to be a far superior product with greater ease of use and better routing. Easier to install, and NO ISSUES!!!
I am afraid i cant help you. tomtom runs buggy on my tornado and on my old blue angel when i had it , it worked ok, but slow, i got it running perfectly with the 6515 for about two weeks, after which it started loosing the gps.. (ie: had to find gps hardware every time i started tomtom). But note, when it was running it ws sluggish (possibly sd issues).I reiterate what i said in the last post. dump tomtom. on this device igo 2007+ runs waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, much faster response and no bugs. Personally i find the routing to be better anyhow.
PS. Garmin XT runs fantastically. installed since my last post. if one was to install a cracked version, which of course one would not do, i would have to say the process was horribly complicated . But worth it. garmin has to date given me the best drive, plus integration of the garmin desktop map bundles available make it a win win
if you need help with the garmin install for integrated gps units pm me!
Thanks for the response - I will probably change to iGO. Before I do, one point to clarify, you state "after which it started loosing the gps.. (ie: had to find gps hardware every time i started tomtom)".
Was the finding of the GPS hardware an automatic action once TomTom started or was this something you had to force?
nope random, seemed to be tied to the autoupdate feature of the quickgps software on the 6515. if gprs was not connected then somehow it would not go over to old manual sattelite fix and just hung in limbo. if gprs is on or quickgps is in an "updated" state it seemed fine. the quickfix was to go into tomtom gps settings and "refind" the gps each time. damn annoying.
note here.. both tom tom and igo seemed to "lose focus" because of the quickgps app. basically you tap tomtom navigator shortcut.. tomtom boots, but then quickgps kicks in and shifts focus from tomtom and never gives it back until you tap the screen. in the case of IGO this was worse because if you tapped the [backarrow] button on the menu it would tap the windows key instead and the only way to fix that is to actualy start an app on the start bar drop down then kil it and "focus" would return to Igo. Once again only an issue if the quickgps software is not up to date. when i say update i mean that its downloaded the latest sattelite position files, not the actual program version update. I did update the version from ver 1.3 to ver 1.6 did not fix this issue
best of luck
PS I got a p3600i the other day.. lovely phone but sucks butt as a gps (very slow sattelite fix) compared to the 6515 running igo so my 6515 still lives in my car

Not bad. Good use of your old phone.

No GPS reception

Can someone please help me?
I have tried these programs:
Tomtom 6
Tomtom 7
GPSdash
BeeLineGPS
WMMiniGPS
GPS tuner
Google maps
I'm using the latest TLR ROM. My GPS setting are default. Com4 Baud rate: 4800.
Here's the problem. The programs seem to find the receiver and seem to find the satellites. (10-15). But I can get absolutely no signal at all. Indoors or outdoors.
I'm getting quite desperate
Have you used any of the tweaks for GPS? I ask as I did but my signal kept dropping - so I turned the tweak off and now it is fine.
I would also suggest using the QuickGPS application to get the Satellite information quicker
I've tried disabling agps. Didn't help. And yes I have used QuickGPS... but no luck.
Any suggestions? : [

Was it the first try? When I tried first it was 6-8 minutes. Where do you try? In the outdoor?
Have you ever used it?
TB
Do you have correct setting "GPS is managed automatically" ?
When I set to GPS is managed manually, I could not found any way to power on builtin GPS. You have to check box "GPS is managed automatically". I think, it may be point of your problem
I had the exact same issue dude... TomTom 6 didn't work so I installed TomTOm 7... still no signal... even with QuickGPS ran...
Google Maps didn't work either....
I'm not sure what I did in the end... took out the battery, set GPS to 'let windows manage automatically' and ran Quick GPS again.. then run TomTOm 7, go to the 'GPS Status' screen which shows the sat signal charts and stand in a wide open area for 5 mins.. ever since then it has worked fine
all the best.
btw you have to make sure your system date and time are accurate coz otherwise it'll be searching for Sats with a wrong reference to the Sat almanac..
Yes, it's set to manage automatically. I've been trying to get a signal by the window, I left the device just sitting there for more than a half hour and still nothing. I guess I'll have to try longer while being outdoors. Hope it helps... but thanks for your help.
I did that too and it didn't work for me. You have to be outside for the 1st time GPS fix and make sure you run QuickGPS before that. Ohh yeah use TomTom 7 to detect the signal... I find that the most reliable somehow... and be sure it's configured to use the built-in GPS receiver...
I know it feels odd... I nearly sent my unit back for warranty because I was very convinced that the patch antenna was somehow disconnected from the chip. lol.
I had the same issue at one point, due to my fiddling and inadequate hacking attempts!
see if you can track down the HTC GPS tool (it's here on XDA somewhere, but i can't find a link at the mo) and run that.
Chipset should be set to Q7200 (yes i know its actually a 7201A but it works the same) and com port to com 4.
Tap the open port button and you should see the GOS info scrolling through the grey window in the program.
If you see nothing, check the external GPS settings
program tab should be com 4
hardware tab should be non and 4800
last tab should be ticked.
if you still get no GPS info scrolling through the gps tool, then it seems you have the same problem i did. Sadly, i had to hard reset it to get it working again, but it has been perfect ever since.
FYI, this started happening once i had turned aGPS on, and even turning it off did not work for me, so if you have to hard reset, i wouldn't bother ever turning the aGPS on again.
where's the option to turn aGPS on/off?
I just remembered how I resolved my issue... I put a SIM card in I had previously been trying to use it with WiFi (to update QuickGPS) but once I had a SIM in there, the GPS worked. Could it be because I'm now using aGPS? hmm...
you need to install schaps advanced config tool to get to the setting to turn aGPS on and off again.
it seems to be off by default btw.

I also kept lossing the GPS signal with this on every few seconds. So I turned it off for good
did you maybe install voip on your diamond? If so that's your problem there. Hard reset you diamond don't install voip en there you go.
It worked! Thank you all.... I had to sit for half an hour in direct sunlight but it was well worth it... I'm new to gps... do you have to do this with every new gps receiver or is this just another great feature from HTC?
I'm, having the same probelm here.
I'm on my second diamond as the first one (a HK version) had a fault with the internal speeker. On the First phone the internal GPS worked fine with both TOMTOM 6 and Google maps. The initial setup only took about 30 secs.
With the new phone (UK spec) I have tried TT7, TT6 and Google maps. I have also run quiick GPS, hard reset and enabling and disabling assisted GPS using the advanced config tool.
Is there anything else I should try or is this likely to be another hardware issue?
Solution To Gps Problem
if you installed VOIP you should hard reset...gps dead...:-( no other solution.
Help! My Diamond GPS reception is MUCH worse than on my Touch Cruise
Hi,
I've just got a Touch Diamond, and the GPS reception is absolutely appalling. I have hard-reset twice, after which I've done nothing except download a QuickGPS update, but still the signal strength and its ability to connect to satellites is completely inconsistent and unreliable, even outdoors. I CAN get a good signal occasionally, but it's very rare. Most often I get no GPS signals whatsoever, or else I get just a couple of weak greyed-out signal bars in TomTom.
I can lay my Diamond down next to my Touch Cruise (both have identical TomTom 6 software loaded from the same CAB), and the Cruise always launches the app faster, finds the GPS device faster, AND finds adequate satellites faster. The Touch Cruise has a lot of problems, but the one thing it has always been very good at is GPS, and it has NEVER failed to find adequate satellites in TomTom 6, even indoors. It always takes well under a minute to do so, too. It's surely not unreasonable to expect at least the same level of performance from the next generation of device. Why should the Diamond's GPS performance be demonstrably so much worse?!!
Nine times out of ten, my Touch Diamond will simply sit there for an hour or more with the TomTom status bar reading 'Waiting for valid GPS signal...". Quite often when I open the GPS configuration option in TT6, it shows absolutely NO SHRED of a GPS signal whatsoever, even outdoors. (My Diamond and my Cruise have identical GPS settings in both Windows and TomTom, by the way).
The annoying thing is that the Diamond's GPS HAS worked on a couple of rare occasions, and the signal strength has been at least as good as on my Touch Cruise. The Diamond is much worse at holding the signal however, and is totally and utterly unreliable for navigation. It certainly isn't the 'Ultra-sensitive GPS' that HTC's marketing promised - it's nowhere near as good as the GPS on the Cruise, which is the previous generation! The Diamond's GPS DOES work well on very rare occasions - it's just that 95 times out of 100, I'm not getting anything at all. This makes me wonder if it isn't a WM 6.1 compatibility problem or a conflict of some kind. It's almost as if Windows is having difficulty activating/waking the GPS fully. When (and if) it finally gets going, reception is actually very good.
I have also downloaded the HTC GPS Tool as someone here suggested, and it reveals the same results as TomTom - I usually get either no satellites at all, or I get two or three red satellite status bars and a message saying 'Fix not available'. It ALWAYS shows a data stream coming from COM4 though, so there doesn't seem to be any problem actually finding the GPS device. On the rare occasions when I have got a usable GPS signal, the HTC Tool then shows two or three red status bars and three or four green ones as well. During those rare periods, Google Maps can also find anything from three to ten satellites, even indoors. However, the next few times I try the Diamond's GPS, nothing will happen at all - it's suddenly as if all the satellites have fallen out of the sky.
By the way, would QuickGPS make ANY difference on the Diamond? As other have pointed out, aGPS is disabled on the Diamond by default. Aren't QuickGPS and aGPS the same thing? I don't know. But if so, surely the QuickGPS data is useless on the Diamond?
Does anyone have ANY idea how to make GPS on the Diamond work as well as it does on the Touch Cruise? Does anyone know why it doesn't already? Has anyone else done a direct comparison between the Diamond and another HTC device using the same GPS software?
I really like the Diamond, but it's incredibly frustrating that the GPS is unreliable to the point of being unusable. At the moment, I'm having to carry the Cruise for GPS navigation and the Diamond for everything else! Certainly not what I paid for. It should do this stuff straight out of the box. Since it doesn't, I can only assume my device is faulty so if I can't get it fixed by the weekend, I'm returning it for a replacement.
Thanks,
Rob.
P.S. Sorry for such a long post, but I needed to vent.
Hi there, I'm having the same problem as RH Photography.
All the programs are trying to communicate, but no fix at all. Once I got a fix, but only 4 sattelites, when in my car GPS BT had fixed to 9!
Will try hard reset and install HTC GPS tool an try to fix

[SOLVED] GPS has stopped working - wtf is going on...?

Over the last few days I have noticed that my GPS is not really working anymore. I'm not sure if this is a result of some software I've loaded or whatever, but I've noticed a few people saying that they are no longer locking onto satellites and noone is really sure what they've done - although there is a thread about the new Clove extended battery and many have mentioned that it stops the GPS from working.
I'd like to get everyone who is having problems to post here please so we can try and work out what the cause is. Some have speculated that it could be the radio but I don't think it is, I've flashed every single radio available with no change...
When I first got my diamond, I was IMPRESSED at the speed and accuracy of the GPS. I would get locks in around 10-15 seconds and using TomTom 7 I found it to be extremely accurate with regards to my position on the map.
Now it SUCKS. The other day I drove and it took 18 minutes to get a fix. When it finally did I estimate it was between 50m - 100m inaccurate. Some kind of lag is going on.
As of the last two days, I cant even seem to track ANY satellites. Since then, like I mentioned I have tried every radio and still the situation remains bad.
- I'm running a cooked ROM based on the 1.93.xx.x. (Elite 3.0)
- Current radio is .11 which seems to work well for my push email. (.05 worked well too) Other than that over the last couple of days its just been push email, a few texts and calls and really nothing else special I'm doing with the device.
Can anyone having the same problems please post here with your ROM version and let us know what your experiences are.
Thanks.
I have the same problem
Rom 1.93 - swift.

No.. Its just the GPS data thats used by the gps to get a quicker lock on the satelites.. Which then only saves you time.. It does not cost you anything besides the trafik it uses to update the data..

gps is for free, the "4 days" corresponds to the time which your device
has the almanach data for faster satellite lock in it's memory. after this time
quickgps will download the alamanach data for the next 7 days, and so on...
if you don't use this feature you still can use gps, but obtaining a fix will
take you a longer time!

I have noticed that it is also dependent on the Rom. I am into flashing different roms and have seen different behaviour of Gps with each rom.
But HARD reset is a must after each flash.
Let me know your findings.
Got my GPS working in TomTom..
Steps i took:
1: change in PPC the gps port to COM6 - So still at Baud 4800
2: TomTom - Gps configure - "Other NMEA GPS reciver" - Baud 4800 - "COM6"
3: Closed TomTom
4: changed in PPC the GPS port back to "COM4" - still baud 4800
5: TomTom - Gps configure - "Build in gps"
And done.
I have this problem- the GPS seems to get worse and worse after a hard reset or rom upgrade to the point where it won't lock on at all.
I have noticed that in TT7 a number of satellites are being found (in the gps menu)but they are greyed out. Despite this it just won't lock on however long i leave it.
I notized that I was sometimes unable to track any satellites because I swiched on "A-GPS" in the registry with some kind of editor. After switching it off the problem was gone.
Greetz
Yes, Advanced Config destroy your GPS if you use it to turn on A-GPS.
Try reflashing the Radio with the same build as you are using already. It resets the GPS and did the trick for me.
How can you turn on A-GPS in the registry? Which key is it?
I have the same problems: when I use the GPS, it finds some satellites and not, and back it finds them, and not. When I use tomtom 6, the screen turns grey and colored every 5 sec., because it finds the satellites and not.
Sometimes it works good, but mostly not.
Can somebody help!!!

There is a little tool which is called "HTC GPS TOOL(S)", dont remember the exact name.. there you can search for satelites using the "cold start" option.. when some satelites are found, then push the "Nav. Init." buttion", dont close the program, just start TomTom and se if it did lock? .. Some reported this method working..

I did things a little differently to yourself, but certainly your general method has solved the problem!
Firstly, and I don't know if this is a result of the radio version I'm running but I only have COM4 and COM7. Running radio .11
Secondly, within TomTom I simply configured the GPS, I changed to other NMEA receiver, selected COM4, and Baud 4800, and then within about 10 seconds, I had a lock. This is after days of not getting a lock at all.
Restarted TomTom, switched back to 'Internal GPS Receiver' and almost instantly locked again.
Problem solved!
I had done many ROM updates and not noticed this effect, I believe now thinking back this must have been a direct result of updating the radio only from version .03 to .05
I will update the thread title.

Diamond - TomTom - suddenly stops working during journey!!

Hi
I have a HTC Diamond (t-Mobile, but with the HTC stock rom rather than the T-Mobile OS)
Using TomTom (TomTom 2003)
Used to use it on previous Windows Mobile phone with HTC rom without issue
It works until i go on a motorway, and then it suddenly doesnt know where it is
The blue car icon just floats off into the greenery, and that is that
Any ideas?
Thanks
what on earth is TomTom 2003?! Maybe go for TT6 or TT7.
Sounds like your description of the problem is not very accurate. -> it is working i.e. not crashing out, but your GPS may be losing position / fix.
How do you mean "blue car icon just floats off into the greenery"
Help us to help you with more detail!
PS did you download the Quick GPS Fix data, and did you get a proper lock before commencing driving?
I have found once or twice that the Diamond doesn't quite know where it is (a few metres out, just enough to lose the "snap-to" the correct road).
Restarting TomTom or the phone fixed it.
I know motorways dont move but your map data for other roads could be out of date if your using 2003. I had to disable assisted GPS (using advanced config) and stopped using the Quick GPS program on my diamond because the GPS stopped working in any application after about 5 minutes. Now I dont have any problems with the GPS using TT7 or Memory Map.
Using Dutty 2.5 and 05 radio by the way
never had a problem with Quick GPS Fix.....As far as I know I have not disabled advanced GPS.
I have a standard Orange 1.37.405 unlocked ROM and 25.03 radio.
Using a 5 year old mapping product is probably not the greatest idea (I found some road errors even in TT7.)
What kind of devices were you running TT2003 on?!?! I would think that an update is in order....
LOL....bit like running Win3.1 applications on a Windows Vista machine...er, perhaps it might not work correctly
Hello,
I have the same problem with TomTom6. Last week I had a trip about 100 km on german motorway. After ca. 45 minutes wihtout any problem TomTom screen becomes gray for a minute. No gps-signal. A minuter later screen return to color an gps seems to be fixed again. But then: It doesn´t track correct - recognized, when blue arrow leaves street. After a while TomTom hang up fully.
Only manual restart and softreset are a solution.
Wht maybe the reason for this (no a-gps activated, but qucik gps).
Peter
