Internet connection still stays connected?? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Right i dont know if this is a bug or its just the way the Diamond is but i go to connect to the internet via opera...everything is fine and it connects via HSDPA. But when i close opera down...the connection is still alive ie doesnt disconnect automatically, i have to manually do it myself which is going to be a problem as i wont remember most of the time and im pretty sure the battery is going to be dead the longer i leave the connection as it is.
So is this normal??..reason i ask is with my nokia n95 i connected to the net but when i closed the browser down...the connection died as well ie disconnected automatically.
If this is normal is there anyway i can change an option that will close the connection as soon as i disconnect from the net??.
Again sorry for asking but its puzzling me as to why it would keep the connection alive even if i wasnt using the net...

Anyone help?? or is it just the way it is??.

I noticed the same thing -after coming from an iPhone and an N95.
Just go into the connection manager and close active connections after use. Its a pain, but an easy solution until someone suggests something better!

Yes, it's "normal".
You need to press the "end call" button, or configure it using the setting application to drop the data connection, or use the command manager to switch off the data connection, or use advanced config program to set the data connection to end after some minutes.

Well the way i figured it out is by using the long press key function, ive mapped it to my call end button which if i press for a few secs..disconnects me from the data connection.
I was hoping that there would be an option where you could specify when to kill the connection off ie after 10 mins of idling...ive been looking through the settings etc and cant seem to find anything...neither can i find anything in the advanced config program either other that gprs auto attach which ive disabled...

Thanks...ive had a look through the settings in the phone but cant see any option where you can specify when to drop the connection...same with advanced config...i cant see that option anywhere>??

Using 'Advanced Config' you can drop the connection after xx minutes of idle.
Programs > AdvConfig > Menu > Connections Settings.

Well either i must be blind or im looking in the wrong area but for the life of me i cannot see an option in advanced config regarding dropping the data connection.

problem with T MOBLE WING
I have the same problem , I even did try connect to my home Wifi it show connected ,but doesn't open to the website I want to ,can some one help, thanks
I had the same problem, I installed batterystatus, and checked the option to disable gprs when wlan is on, and now it works fine...
You don't need batterystatus to do this (the software just does it automatically for you), you can do it by yourself by disabling "data connection" in the connection manager whenever you turn on the wifi radio

t-mobile wing wifi problems
I had a similar problem with my wing. It would connect to unsecured WIFI networks and work flawlessly but when I connect to a secured network it would work for about 1 min then just hang while downloading a web page. If you device is doing this send it back to t-mobile and get a new one. This is what I had to do. hopefully you have a warranty.
I just got my T-Mobile Wing and I think I have the same problem. It just doesn't want to work with my WPA-secured Wi-Fi. When I switch WPA off, it works fine.
Did anyone else had a problem like this?
Called T-Mobile, they have nothing like that in their knowledge base.
I got this problem when i installed HTC 10 Button comm manager. I uninstalled it and WiFi works again.
Hope this helps
i have somewht of a similar problem, since ive had my Wing i have been unable to use my wi-fi, when i turn it on it says connected and shows me the lil meter and everythin but when i try browsing or downloadin it just hangs and does nothing until i turn the wi-fi off...i have no clue why i have learned to live without it but would appreciate any help...thanks
Try this it work for me. Whenever you want to connect to secure wpa do this before you make the connection
Start > Setting > Connections > Wifi Status > Power Mode > Move the slide "Best Performance"
Your wing should be able to connect to secure wpa.
Hope this help.

i dont know how i ever survived without wi-fi....WOW....thank u
Thank Ayodeji13. He answered this in the 5th post. ^_^ But, yea, I've done the same thing before and was lucky to realize where the problem was coming from. Unfortunately, it didn't help me with the crappy wifi signal that my Wizard provided me. The wing, on the other hand, is MUCH better at this.

Thanks mate... I too was having issues connecting to wifi... its kind of strange... it was connecting to my home network for sometime but later it suddenly stopped. It will connect to other networks but not to my secured network. Today I tried the setting you mentioned and surprisingly my phone connected to my home network... I wonder why because this setting should improve the performance and not the connectivity itself... Thanks again
you can add me to the list of people with wifi issues. I can't connect to my wireless router and I'm stand two feet away from it. It shows up but when I try to connect it says unavailable. I've done everything from turning the data off, to setting the power to best performance but it won't connect.
I need help... Whenever I connect it says I'm connected but actually I'm not. Yesterday I could view directions using live search but couldnt browse the web, not i cant do both. it gets stuck on the locating... part of loading the website. sometimes it gets to opening but the KB bar doesnt come up and it gives me some 500 internal error, or page doesn't exist. I cant do the best performance thing because im using touch it 2.3 rom and i dont have wifi status anymore.
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THAT STUF?!! URGH! I dont even have msn!
But anyways, can someone help me connect to the internet?...
TRY THIS
I have the same problem, i i manage to fix my wifi connectivity by editing the registry.....try this at your own risk.....but swear it works for me. i used total commander to edit registry and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > HTC > Comm Manager >
then you will see folders 0 - 8 or some only have 0 - 7 ,delete folders 6 and up ........ ( I JUST MOVE MINE instead of DELETING IT< I MOVE IT TO STORAGE CARD SO IF SOMETHIN GOFF UP I CAN JUST PUT IT BACK )....
SOFT RESET then try turn your wifi ON , connect to your network.... til me if this works for u guys...
i think the value of those folders are bum hehehehe thats why it wont connect......., after connecting to your wifi secured or not , it will create another folder and add those folders back by default...but this time the good settings lolz its worth a try !
Ok this is realy frustrating. My wing was getting on my secured home network and npw it dose not. I read all the post and have tried some (the ones that I could understand). I dont have the option under battery status to disable gspr or gpsr. And my system is vista 64 so total commder dosen seem to work for reg settings(edits). I can conect to unsecure networks but I cant to my hone (secure) network. I have in the past but it dsent ssem to work now?

No, you either have it on or off. If you want to kill it do this:
Disable Auto Attach GPRS with Schaps Advanced Config
Luck!

Yes, or at least DiamondTweaks purports to be able to disconnect data connections after x minutes (persumably of non-use). Note the caveat about it potentially not working in some programs and also disconnecting simultaneous voice calls at the same time so you would be wise to experiment with it first!
If you give it a try do let us know how you get on.
Mathew
Theres the auto attach function which you can disable in Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool which means data connections will only be seeked when you go to use an application that makes a data request.
There is also an AUTO OFF option to auto disconnect the session after specified number of idle minutes....Not had any issues on 1.93.405.1 image with regard to call drops etc. Mine is set to 5 minutes disconnect.
Do you know if it is possible to detach (not just disconnect) again from GPRS following a connection that's no longer required? The auto-attach setting is all well and good but once you've used it and disconnected you remain attached (until you soft-reset of course).

How to permanently turn of Gprs/wap

When I am at home my Diamond always uses/turns on the Gprs and uses that rather than my Wi-fi connection.
I have changed all the settings and even turned data connections off but it still does it.
Anyone have a way to permanently turn it off ?
Thanks

have a look at modaco "no data" :
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
To disable it without extra software I do the following:
Go to Start-> Settings -> Connections.
Open the 'Connections' icon.
Go to Advanced and then 'Select Networks'
For both dropdown boxes click 'New...' and fill in some bogus name and phone number and click OK.

How to just use wifi and totally disable media net

Well i dont have a data plan and only want to use wi-fi when available. Should i delete the gprs settings or is there a program to disable it. I ask this because im afraid of it useing the internet and not wifi. Is there a way to do this. I tried and searched no results
thanks
Do the following to remove any data connections, other than wifi
Do the following..
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks >
(CHOOSE YOUR CONNECTION FROM THE DROP DOWN LIST).
Choose the one you want. Example MEdia Net
(After Selecting)> Edit > Click and hold on the item next to radio button (example MEdia Net).. when the popup screen (similar to windows right click) comes up click on delete. Then do the following. >> General Tab > Click the button "Delete Settings".
Repeat the steps for other items listed on the drop down list...
NOTE - You cannot delete settings for My ISP & Work Network. Which is fine.
Hope that helps.
P.S - If you ever need the settings back again.. run the Connection Setup Wizard again

I made this video so you can see . its pretty simple if you want to use your wifi connection just enable wifi and fallow steps.

Or use Modaco Nodata, which allows you do enable/disable in 2 clicks.....
Bookmarked.
I do it every time I flash, but I always have to re-figure it out.
Thanks!
wow, search could have told you this in no time flat.
I used to have a regular poo poo samsung phone with that irritating buttonmin the middle to connect. Every time I accidentally pressed it, it would try to connect, and I would cancel immediately. Much to my dismay, I still received connection charges just for trying to connect. Fed up, I called ATT, told them my situation, and requested the ability for my ACCOUNT to use internet be blocked--since I didn't appreciate 6-10 bucks in connection charges (sinceI didn't have a plan). They removed it (not just from my phone no., but from all phones on my account) , and anytime I pressed the button, the connection failed. Upgraded over to a tilt, with the same sim card, any media NET connection fails, since any connection is disabled. Ofcourse, removing the bloatware really helps.
Use Modaco Nodata. I am a wifi only. Here @ work, and @ home. So, no data really needed.
I have NO data plan and its the 1st thing I install. It has NEVER allowed any data, and its a toggle. No other setup required.

Wifi does eat batteries though.

Would anyone that has this .cab file to disable the internet, upload it for me i would really appricate it
I believe the KasierTweak app has the option as well. Of course if you had just searched in the first place I'm sure you would have had your answer several hours ago.

ONLY ONE way to Disable Media Net (AT&T)
The ONLY way to disable Media Net from At&t is to call them and get a WIX block placed on your account. The downside to that is you lose the ability to send/receive picture messages; regular text messages are fine.
I've tried changing connection settings, band settings, etc...
I've tried turning off 3G.
I've tried NoData.
My Touch Pro 2, WM 6.5, keeps connecting to Media Net.... Until NOW, when I had the block placed on my phone account.
I know this is an old thread, but I've been doing intensive searching on the matter, and this page keeps popping up; so I'm posting to let anyone else who's looking know.
IF ANYONE OUT THERE COULD DEVELOP A PROGGIE TO FIX THIS, I'D BE MORE THAN WILLING TO DONATE FOR IT!! (And I'll bet many others would, too!)

Is it normal for a mobile web conection to remian connected ALL the time?

Hi all,
I have enabled Data Connection on my TD2, but now the mobile remains connected all the time. I want to synchronise with exchange so have set this to happen every 15 mins, but the "mobile web" connection still remains connected.
Whilst I have a bolt on with my provider to allow unlimited web access, surely this will run down the battery super quick?
Cheers
Swin
It's normal and it's not wearing your battery down.

Your phone has a constant connection over that radio signal anyway, for phone calls etc.. The icon is effectively saying that the data channel has been established over that same 'link'. Think of it like you've been assigned an IP address (which you have in fact).
Hi
Keeping the data connection valid may help reduce power consumption, as when you need to transfer data, time and power is saved by the phone not having to re-create a valid connection.
The phone companies prefer it remains connected as it reduces load on their systems as well.
Regards
Phil
