Messed up screen - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Was using my Tilt last night. Set it down, and half an hour later the screen is like this:

}
I didn't move it, touch it, drop it, drop anything on it, etc.
Soft reset - no fix. Hard reset - no fix, but can't complete the setup, since I can't see anything. Any thoughts?

fraid thats a crack right there. rong atnt and get a replacement

How I can flash back to the orginial ROM, though? I can't see anything on the screen. I'd have to do the ROM and the SPL, correct?
Oh, and thanks for helping, jayjay!

go to the wiki page and it will tell you how to do it.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser

DONT send it back to at&t! they will see that it is physical damage and charge you the $400 out of warranty fee! best thing is find the thread about how to open the kaiser, order a new screen for around $60 and replace it urself. good luck
omar

what if he claims accidental damage. when my universal broke i told them i dropped by accident and they said its okay wells end you out a new one next day and all they charged was 15 quid
($30)

it doesnt matter if its accidental or not. im talking about the warranty, which only covers manufacturers defects. if u have insurance then u just pay the deductible

it seems like atnt have a little customer service to review. i have read theyre a bit iffy with customers wanting help

Tilt Disassembly Guide???

I know there's been a thread about replacing the outer keypad of the Tilt but it never seemed to have been resolved. My chrome has come off considerably bad (my send and end key no longer look like buttons, no more windows, my mail key is almost a box, and the k on the ok button looks real funky). I see Cnn.cn has recently updated their parts section and now have the OEM Tilt keypad, I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the outer keypad without completely disassembling the phone, cuz i refuse to pay $70 for someone to replace it when i can do it myself for 10.
I'm pretty sure someone wrote one, (I wrote in the thread) search it out.
No There are no disassembly guides anywhere. Nope mikechannon did not setup a site for this...
Dude, are you following me?

Screen replacement OLED/LCD

So bascially I drop my phone (2 feet off the ground) and it crack the screen.
Everything still works fine, only the glass is broken.
My question is I found LCD replacement on ebay for around $120~.
So if I replace that, is not an OLED anymore?!

I think I found the exact one and I'm pretty sure that is a SAMOLED just named incorrectly I don't think anyone would make a LCD screen for a captivate... but if so a SAMOLED would be well worth it over LCD
if its the screen for a cappy it is the right part and will be the same.
I see thanks,
Just debaiting if I should bother fixing it.
Dont really want to spend the $130~ for a DIY I'm not really comfortable with.
Anyone know some cheaper place for parts.
Contract ending in few months.
Going to switch to another provider which I can get a new phone.
I don't know anywhere you might be able to get one cheap mostly because it's the screen I imagine you can't really buy one that wasn't from a different captivate and since you're about to switch and get a new phone I'd live with it haha it's not worth that much money if you don't plan to use it much anymore
Is the screen and front glass one piece? It looks like the screen under the glass is fine.
I agree that there probably isn't a LCD for the captivate.

thanks alot,
You should send it back to Amazon, or take it back to whoever sold it to you. It is obviously defective and I do not think there is a way to fix that.
oh well.. i guess i have to sent it back to amazon..
thanks
yeah, I would send it back also. Sounds like you got a dud.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Make sure you tell them that it is defective and they will pay shipping. Otherwise you'll be stuck with the bill!
You should contact online support. They will send you a sticker, i mean pre-paid return shipping label.
I used to have a defective kindle fire (refurbished) with unusable touchscreen.
You don't hesitate, just contact them, they will send you a new one before you even post back the defective one.
I remember i had 30 days to complete the sending back process to Amazon...

Question for those who have replaced the glass

I have the opportunity to buy a Nexus 6 that's working perfectly but has a broken screen for only 35 bucks. I'm a bit concerned looking at the Craigslist pic of the damage though. It looks to me like a bit of what's under the glass might be broken too but I'm not really sure. I'd certainly like a solid foundation to stick a new digitizer to. I'm hoping someone who has seen that part of the phone before can weigh in on this for me. If it's just more trouble waiting to happen I'll want to pass on it. Take a look at the pic and tell me what you think please...

Safest bet is to do digitizer and glass as one assembly rather than glass only replacement
Thanks but the phone was already sold when I woke up today. I agree that replacing the whole assembly is safest, but if I could afford that I would just find a whole phone that doesn't need the work.
LCD and Digitizer is like every other modern phone on the market, they are bonded together so you cannot just replace the digitizer. Sure you can buy the digitizer online but due to the bonding process they use during manufacturing the LCD will break trying to take them apart. Unless of course you have specialized equipment just for breaking the bond, then you would need bout half a million dollars in equipment to liquid optically bond them back together. Cheaper to just buy a whole new display

Question Liquid damage / oxidation cost, the final nail in the coffin

Sent my device back to be repaired by OnePlus.
Nothing wrong with the phone besides two things.
Proximity sensor
Brightness sensor.
They say I need to change all of these
Parts affected:
- Replacement antenna
- Replacement back camera
- Replacement battery
- Replacement battery cover
- Replacement display
- Replacement earpiece
- Replacement flex
- Replacement front camera
- Replacement main board
- Replacement speaker phone
- Replacement vibrator
- Screening
Plus the cost would be £854?? Lol a brand new 10 pro doesn't cost that much FFS.

Needless to say I said no, now I'm awaiting it coming back in a completely non working state and I'll end up with a fight on my hands..
I get it that it may have some water damage but honestly, £854?? What are these guys smoking? At best it'll be a problem with the sensors alone if they can't be removed then fair enough.
Guess i'm going to save up for the nothing 2.
Never again.
PS: just called SBE and spoke with some utter puppet, I advised that there was only a couple of problems with it and that I want the device back with the functionality that I sent it to them with...
