I just purchased an SPV M1500. Is this the same as the XDA IIi? I bought it already unlocked. Are there any differences in the ROM besides splash screens / logos? Is there a way to put the O2 XDA IIi ROM on this device?
Last question... I bought it from someone in the UK, and I live in the US, I currently subscribe to Cingular Wireless. Has anyone had issues with this?
Any reply would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brock
Same device, slightly different looks.
All Alpine ROMs will work and the splash images etc can all be changed, at ROM upgrade or later. Find a ROM you want and follow instructions.
The device is tri-band so long as you live in an area where you don't need quad band you'll be OK.
Any more questions, there are plenty of people here to ask, just don't ask the dreaded WM5 question, the answer will be NO.
Good luck.
LOL!! I got that loud and clear. I thought people were supposed to be reading through the forum for their answer before posting stupid/redundant questions??? NO WM5, at least yet. I don't have a desire for that right now anyways. What would be the benefit?
The earth is so small. You know what, you have bought the phone from me on ebay, Brock Miller. Have you received the phone yet? I could give you help on upgrading the phone, if you needed it. At the moment, if you wanted the latest rom, then it is imate PDA2 ROM.
Nam? Oh my gosh!!! I can't believe you frequent this site as well? Wow... Thats cool. It is indeed a small world. No I haven't received the SPV-1500 yet, I was just asking a few questions about it before hand. I can't wait to get it though. I'll drop you an e-mail when it comes in. Have a good one!
It's nice to meet you here as well. The phone will arrive very soon. Keep the eyes on your work place, you will need to sign for it. Give me a sound when you need helps and have fun with the phone.
Yes! It was.
Will I personally have to sign for it? Or can my shipping department sign for it?
Also, what phone do you have now?
as long as you could arrange someone to sign for it, then that's fine. I think I just buy a cheap phone for now, untill the new HTC Muse comes out. This would be the best phone ever.
Except for the 4GB of storage, and the camera it looks like the HTC Universal has better specs. Why the muse? I really would have liked to have bought an HTC Universal, but I couldn't find any that were reasonably priced, .
Simply, because it is very compact, has everything that I wanted. I originally had the VPA compact which is HTC Magician, but it doesn't have wifi built in that why I sold it. I also did have HTC Universal ( SPV M5000 ) once and I do not advice you to get one. No only because of the price ( I got it for £250 ), it is also very very slow ( before buy it, I thought it would be very fast, but it's not, even slower than HTC wizard ) and bloody massive. I had it for one day and sold it the next day, you can imagine how dissapointed I was.
The only good thing about the HTC Universal is the infrared transfer speed ( 4mb/s ) and range ( 7 metres ) which is good for TV remote control softwares. However, that is not good enough for the price.
Wow, that would be very diappointing. What did you not like about the HTC Alpine? Too bulky also?
The HTC Alpine is not as big as the HTC Universal and HTC Blue Angle ( actually it is quite compact for such a powerful device ), has wifi built in, powerful processor ( don't be confused with the Intel PXA 270 520MHZ of HTC Universal, it is Intel PXA 272 520MHZ ) and better bluetooth than other HTC device ( support file transfer service and more ). The only thing that I do not like about it is that the infared range is too short ( 70 cm ) for Remote control programs which is the same on other HTC devices, except for the HTC Universal ( 7 metres ) and HTC magian ( 3 metres ) ( that's why I sold it ). But if you can live with it, then the HTC Alpine is the best Mobile Phone/Pocket PC to have at the moment in term of features and price.
I just received the SPV M1500!! Even though you tried, the power adapters that you sent were the wrong kind. The U.S. uses 110 V. Also, all looks ok, but it showed more wear than I thought it would. There was a scratch on the screen, a tiny crack just above the "joystick" hole, and the external antenna port hole cap is missing (not a huge deal, just doesn't look as good with out it). Do you know if TomTom has a US map available to buy?
As my description the phone is used. I am so sorry, if it dissapointed you. TOMTOM and USA map are already included on the DVD, just follow the installation guide that is also in the in the box. Let me know anything that I could help you with. I will try to find the cover at the back for you, if I could not find it, then I would refund you some money, so you could get a new silicon case for it. Really sorry.
No way!! No this is fine. Its still a very nice phone. If you can find the cover, that would be nice, but I don't expect a refund by any means. I still got a good price. I need to find an AC adapter for this cradle though. I imagine that won't be too hard to come by, I just hope it doesn't cost too terribly much. Thanks again for the phone. I am overall pleased. It is so much better than my Wallaby. Also, I can charge it in the wallaby cradle for now. I was lucky, it fits, not quite right, but good enough. Thanks again. Also, I see where there is indeed USA maps with TomTom included. Sorry about that.

Or can I just send you some softwares in return? Just name the softwares, I will find them for you. I am now selling some softwares for pocket pc on ebay, just take a look, if you like them, let me know I will send them to you. Also I just find out that if you installed Imate PDA2 ROM UPDATE, the infrared range will be incresed to about 3 metres. If you was not so sure how to install ROM UPDATE, let me know, I will give you the web link with installation guide.
Hello Coldwave

All HTC Alpine devices have the same hardwares. Therefore, it is possible to change ROM between different made like Imate, Qtek, Orange, etc. However, you must follow some steps to avoid Country ID error.
Dear All,
I have decided on this phone, Kaiser. I am unlikely to redo the ROM etc. as I refuse to own a brick! As both operating systems go, which is the best one please?
Any thoughts would be very appreciated.......
Thank-you in advance.......

I got the T-Mobile Vario III and love it. They don't seem to have tampered with the phone at all other than changing the colours of some of the icons to pink. You can easily change this with a tweak pack that is available on the net. I was worried about the colour of the actual phone after seeing the dodgy 'demo' version on display but the actual phone has a brushed stainless steel look about it.
Z.
I have the V1615, and although I did change it to the HTC ROM in the end, it really wasn't particularly Vodafoneised to begin with. They've made some changes to the Today screen, all of which are reversible if you poke around in the settings, and they've installed a Vodafone skin for the dialling screen etc, but you can re-install the HTC skins quite easily.
In the end, I flashed it to the HTC Rom anyway, just for simplicity's sake, and of course it was in no way bricked - it's much the better phone for it. The good thing with the V1615 is there's very little outside branding too - just a voda logo front and back. The buttons etc are as HTC intended, and so is the colourscheme - although the back plate is gloss black, rather than rubberised. My V1615 was also SIM unlocked, which I don't think is true of any of the T Mobile handsets (and unlocking these still costs money at the moment).

I think there is an unlocker now on this very forum!
Does anyone already thought about debranding his compact iv? I'm talking about debranding the case/shell. Not the software.
I had the compact III earlier and was able to get rid of the "MDA" and "T-Mobile" printing with a sugarcube. But using this method would surely mess up the shiny surface.
So, any ideas anyone?
yeah,
first flashing hardspl, then loading one of the many custom roms (or even the original htc one).
i wanted to do that tonight with my mda 4, but I don't know if or how I can flash back the original spl for warrenty reasons. (the original rom would be no problem). I'm waiting for an answer in an other thread, if there is something like a branded spl.
maybe some can help me out here ?
What is the SPL ver on the phone?
Hi,
you people aren't really reading before you post, hm?
The OP asked how to remove the branding on the casing, _not the (butt-ugly) software_
Please READ before you post.
AhNe: I'm sorry, I don't have a clue, I doubt it's possible, the silver coating for the logos is under the glass layer, so there's probably nothing you can do without taking apart the whole phone
sorry but didn't thought some one could mean the case, how would this be possible. my suggestion, if you like the case design, sell your mda on ebay and import an unbranded P3702 Victor from taiwan. they should be on regular sale there soon.
thx cptsunshine
Yeah, well I guess I gotta sell it and get a original HTC branded then.. or just live with the fugly MDA, T-Mobile stuff.
Thanks for the reply though!
This is very interesting as my phone had no orange customization on either. BUT!
If you look through the handbook ( ON the CD )
Check out the themes and wallpaper shown there?
Also look through the programs that are listed there..
ORANGE downloads
ORANGE tv
ORANGE music.
None of these are on your phone.
Now i`ve spoken to orange on 4 occasions about this. I thought i was a one of and some how they had managed to forget to install said items. But like the man at orange said there should be at least an orange logo when starting up.
So now i`m confused. i`ve just got back from the post office as i`ve sent mine back.
Please can any body tell me if they have an orange diamond with the above items on.
I suspect Orange rushed it out ahead of the iphone 3g and probably didnt manage to get there customisations ready.
I only have the orange logo on the back. Nothing more but is that a great loss?
Mmm spoke to Orange again after seeing the comments on here. Now they are telling me its a generic phone and comes with no orange customization on it. The lady said that the missing stuff could be activated with a pin number from the data and fax team!! This i doubt but who knows?
Spoke to someone in an orange shop and they say theres are all branded with the orange menus etc!!
Mine was Orange packaging but that was it. The phone seems pretty much stock HTC
Mine too is orange-peeled, so to speak.
The interesting thing is that the pdf guide that comes with it, details all the orange customisation and programs. So Orange must be planning to put their stuff on it.
Mine was from phones4u if it helpls
I would advise those thinking about getting this phone on Orange to do so ASAP. Clearly it was supposed to be branded, but was rushed out to combat the iPhone launch.
Mine has no Orange branding except the logo on the back of the case. I'm not too worried though as I would only have had to get rid of all the branding!!

I'm hoping that they forget to brand the Touch Pro when they eventually release it. I'm really tempted by the Diamond but the lack of SD card expansion is putting me off.
Ever since Orange were constantly accused have having no handset selection they have released key models with no branding quickly and then followed up later. It's clearly a tactic to compete with the iPhone. What are the French handsets from Orange like?
Same here - no branding apart from the logo on the back cover.

Stupid question, but why would you want Orange branding on it, other than to access Orange downloads, TV and Music (and these will ony be links to the various sites and would probably be easily obtainable from elsewhere)? As an Orange TyTN II owner I can tell you that their customization slows the phone down. The best thing I ever did was flash the stock HTC ROM to it.
I was toying with the idea of getting the Diamond, especially after reading the comments about it being unbranded except for the logo on the battery case, but the lack of SD card slot is a deal breaker for me, so I'm holding out for the Touch Pro, especially if they again release it unbranded.
Personally I think you might have made a mistake sending the phone back in order to get one with Orange Bloatware on it...

Mmmm me too i thought it was a fault but now looking at the posts i wish i`d have kept it.
Oh well i`ll see what my replacement one is like when i get it...
mine doesnt have any orange software on it either and thank god. orange software has always slowed the system down.
mine doesnt have the remote desktop mobile application that the manual detail - iv also seen a youtube vid showing it. anyone else got this?
No branding? Here's hoping mine doesn't have it either when it comes tomorrow.
Better not do any firmware updates by entering you Orange Serial Number too, as im sure those will be branded.
Stick to ROM updates from this forum.

Would appreciate that you let the gang here know, considering yours is part of the second allocation of stock.
just spoke to Orange CS who said they are getting stock in today, i'll be ordering mine later so i'll let everyone know what it comes with (hope there's no bloatware on it!)
a fast "search" for "orange" could give you this:

and 2-3 more, orange related. please use search,
thank you for keeping it (the forum) clean of clutter!
Hi all,
Please excuse my ignorance, I have searched this site for this question, but not found it... Sorry if it has been posted previously.
I am looking to buy a HTC Touch Diamond, but am I worth getting the Orange version (original?) or the O2 version (XDA Ignito)? The only difference I can see is the back cover and some additional software which the great people on here have far superior anyway ... Am I missing something?
Also, are the older versions (see site at bottom) still available? - the ones that have 128MB RAM instead of the advertised 192MB?
I'm looking to get this handset from a cash-back site so expect that they may be using old stocks... Is there any way to tell without opening the box (so it can be returned without question under the distance selling regulations)?
Thanks for any help.

I work for O2 and i've used our demo version of the diamond quite a lot and I also own the Orange one.
I bought the Orange one off ebay instead of waiting for the O2 branded one and I have to say the build quality on the O2 seems far more solid. The buttons feel sort of.. firmer.. and the back is much nicer than the faceted one.
I wish i'd waited for the XDA version to be honest =']
Hi Sherby,
Thanks for your comment I can't see how there could be a difference with the buttons or build quality, I thought that would have been something HTC created not modified by O2... I appreciate the back cover as it just slides off... Will have to pay Orange and O2 another visit Thanks!
Aubs
Also.. the O2 version is slightly more glossy around the edges than the Orange one which is just matte.

Ahh ok. Don't think I'm that bothered about the glossy or matte though, could put up with either
Any idea about finding the hardware version?
Thanks again
Aubs
I have the o2 version, simply because I didn't favour the original diamond shaped back. Device information page attached...
Thanks for that GanjaBlood - I was considering the same, but if you can just remove and replace the back facia then it isn't really an issue... They'll be on fleebay soon!
The Ignito battery cover won't fit the Diamond. The corners are different for starters.

That is something I didn't know... Thanks Ruffage.
[EDIT] Sorry, just seen the 'accessories' forum... Please ignore the question below, hopefully it's answered there [/EDIT]
Does anyone know if the replacement batteries that O2 are apparently selling will fit into the Orange TD?
Thanks for everyone's responses.
