Hi All,
I am considering upgrade from 1.6.7.1 to 2.16.9.101. The only think that still hold me is backup of my sms messages.
My question is - Is there are way to back up sms messages without any backup SW (e.g. spbBack etc.)?
I know from Outlook that it holds all its mails in single file, which I can just copy to DVD and after fresh install import. I suspect that it should be the case with Pocket Outlook as well. And as long as SMS are part of Pockect Outlook, they should be kept in the same file. Where is that file and can I replace it after new ROM installation?
Thanks in advance
helo there, brother.. am here with a solution for ur problem and yet, another question aswel..
u can use jeyo mobile companion 1.1 to backup all ur sms's.. i use this to backup my sms if i hardreset my fone or reflash my rom.. really useful software.. hope this helps..
now heres my question, jeyo mobile companion doesnt allow me to back up sms's in folders, ie, i have a specific folder in my inbox for the sms my girlfriend sends me.. but wen i do the backup with jeyo mobile companion, it does not backup the msgs in the folder.. i'l hav to move the msgs to the inbox folder b4 i backup and after i restore them, i hav to move them bak to folders.. so i wud like to kno an application that would backup sms and folders as well.. thanx in advance
Well,
Your proposal is solution, however not exactly into the direction I am looking for... jeyo usage means that I have to use third party SW to backup my SMS messages and restore them afterwards.
So let me repeat what I want to do:
1. Take from my PPC file where all my SMS are stored (using file explorer and Active Sync);
2. Save this file to my laptop;
3. Flash ROM;
4. Replace new, empty file created by fresh Pocket Outlook on PPC with mine.
If somebody can tell me how to perform that sequence it will be really appreciated,
Thanks in advance
I guess they are in the root of the mobile device.. one of those .vol files maybe? You could try these files. (After you've secured your sms-messages with a third-party program of course - as a temporary solution)
Yes, I thought the same. Unfortunately I am not able to copy any of those files (cemail for instance). I have got the message "Cannot copy "cemail". There has been sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."
I suspect that this file is already locked by some system applications running. Any ideas are welcomed,
Regards

With spb backup you can backup only your contacts, E-mail and SMS messages if you want to, works great. I have mine backing these up every night in case of crash.
I found if you use the file explorer in the mda to copy everything to a mini sd card you overcome the "sharing violation" error.
Hello, I had everything backed up before starting the upgrade.
My idea was to restore everything like it was before the upgrade: messages, settings, programs etc.
After the upgrade, activesync won't restore the stg file since, it says, the device is not the same as the one the backup was made for.
Any suggestion on how to restore the back up? or to retrive the information from the stg file?
Thank you for your attention and help.
PB
The way I got round this was to remove the partnership in active sync (must be done when device is NOT connected) - be sure not to delete settings on PC when it asks. Give the old name back to your device plug it in and then restore through active sync.
Its wise to take a copy of the backup file too, just in case!
There maybe a better way of doing it, but this works fine for me
great...
great...I have deleted the settings on the pc.
I have tried with the guest account, but obviously nothing happens.
what now.
this thing sucks. Can't i just overwrite everything from the stg using stgviewer?
Anybody to share his expertise?
Do Hard reset
in my opinion follow the instrction of APRMIKE, after HArd rest. During hard rest U must do format storage "yes" and reg del "yes..and of course del. the partnership, keep the previous name same as before....";;;other wise it wil continue to give U headach... [/quote]
how do i get into the menu with the options
format storage "yes" and reg del "yes
after the hard reset?
Ok, solved half way.
It was the regional setting.
I didnt quite get what I wanted though, so I have re set everything from zero.
Is there a way to backup and choose what is that we want to restore?
thank you guys for your help!
Take a look at spb backup. An excellent backup utility that will allow scheduled backups and gives you the options to chose what to backup and restore if necessary. Also the software does not have to be installed to do a restore which saves a lot of messing about, just click the files and it does the rest

thank you, i will try it!
Hi guys,
Can you help me?
I synced my T-mobile Vario 3 for the very first time with Outlook 2003 on Windows XP. Done the usual install and plugged in device. The sync wizard appeared and ticked all PIM info contacts calendar ect ect - it stated that all was synced and connected. Went into outlook and no info was there. Disconnected and checked the partnership on the phone and noticed only files were ticked as an option to sync. Re-plugged the device into the PC and said syncing and it wiped my device of all my contacts and calendar entries. Its like the partnership removed options from the phone partnership after first contact was made and when I disconnected contacts and calendar became unticked in the options and second connection deleted them off the device. I see this happening with WM6 devices, this is happening quite regular on my friends MDA touch plus. Any ideas on this guys?
hmm did u do a pimbackup on ur phone before syncing? cuz if u did u can always restore it back to ur phone...and outlook shouldnt delete any contacts...play around with the settings
The settings on activesync are defaulted to put whatever you have on your computer onto the device.
I use Vista so its a little different, but you need to go into settings and make sure you have activecsync to replace items on the computer and not on the device.
Response
Thing is there wasnt anything on the PC to begin with, its like the partnership that was set on the wizard didnt take because when I disconnected the device and checked the partnership on the device after I lost everything Contacts and Calender and tasks changed from ticked to unticked on its own. So when I reconnected it wiped the details off the device because they were unticked as this is what happens if you untick an option in the partnership and re-sync. However i never unticked these, it happened on its own, decided to replicate and it happened again tonight.
Always backup "pim.vol" before doing anything!

And that is why I never use outlook!
Next time, before experimenting with anything make sure you copy the "pim.vol" file located in the root directory of your device, that is the file that contains all your contact and calendar info!
Then if something like this happends again you can just copy the file back to the device and do a soft reset, and all your contacts and calendar info will be back!
Also the file is only about 3 to 400 kb so it is really no sweat to copy!

Thats a great idea - I didnt think of that - are tasks part of this file also? One other thing - Do I copy the pim.vol file onto the PC or put it somewhere else on the device such as documents folder on the MDA?

I am not sure if the tasks are a part of that file, have to test that first
To be sure I would recomend you to save at least one copy of the "pim.vol" file to your PC, that way if something should happend to your device you still have it!
Also, you can copy the file to other wm5 and wm6 devices and get all your contacts to that device too!
It is a much quicker way of transfering contacts to othe devices then to copy one contact at time! And all your contact pictures is imbeded in the "pim.vol" file, so you will still have the contact pics without having to copy the pics too!
Response
Mmmmm... Just tried that - Went to Start>File Explorer>My device seen a file called pim without a file ext around 648k it allowed me to copy it to my documents on the device - then tried to replace it after deleting all contacts off for an experiment and got the following error when trying to copy the pim file back to where it was. Cannot copy pim access is denied - Be certain that there is enough free storage memory, that the destination is not write protected or not in use.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Oh yes, that will happend becouse windows is using the file!
What you need to do is to simply rename the "pim" file to something else, let´s say "pim1" then you can try it again!
Remember that you have to reboot your device before you can see the contacts again!

Is there anyway I can transfer that file to my PC so I can hard reset the device and then transfer it back to the PC or is my only option is to copy it to the memory card for safekeeping so I can wipe the device and then restore the file?

As I mentioned before you can copy the "pim.vol" file to your pc, then you will be able to restore it if you have to format your device and even copy to another device so you can have your contacts there too!
Also "pim.vol" holds all your contact pics, so you dont have to take new pics again or even copy the pics if you only use them as contact pics!
You can copy the file using activesync or if you have a card reader you can copy the file to your memory card and to the pc from there!
Hope this helps!

Can I restore a nandroid backup from a friends phone on to my phone?
Are there any problems that may occur if I do this?
In theory it should work. AS LONG AS BOTH OF YOU TWO HAVE THE SAME PHONE!!!
Try it and find out, but remember:
ONLY YOU ARE RESPONIBLE FOR BRICKING YOUR PHONE NANDROID FIRST!
Yes..
On your sdcard is a folder named nandroid. Inside this folder is a folder named HTXXXXXXXXXXXXX. This is your device id. Inside that folder are folders with dates. These folders hold all of the images from the backup. You will want to take one of these folders and place it into the same folders on your sdcard. The device ID folder has to be your device ID.
location|| Device ID ||Name of Nandroid (Folder)
|------||-------------||-------------------|
/sdcard/HT01FHF02297/BDES-20100412-1746
You can also change the Name of the Nadroid folder for easir reference, but it can not have spaces

Yeah, it can be done. In fact, I actually save all my nandroids to my computers for safety reasons (e.g., in case my SD card dies on me, or my nandroid becomes corrupted for some unknown reason(s)). Anyway, just place the nandroid in the nandroid/HT[whatever_u'r_id_is]/ on u'r sd card as uncorrupted states above. It shouldn't mess with u'r phone number or what not... but although, you may end up with the same contacts, lol. I'm not sure how that aspect of it works... Try it and find out
I wonder if the nandroid's use the device ID number to label each nandroid (within) the file and if it has to match the device being flashed to... anyway, let us know how it comes out if you do try it. And remember, nandroid u'r current setup first before trying it, just in case it messes up u'r phone for some reason. But I honestly don't fore see that happening. Good luck!
Sorry if i sounds stupid, but I'm not used to nandroid stuff. i understand most of it but in theory can i just place my sd card into my new aria (my current one has a broken screen) and nandroid backup it? should it be ok?

You should be ok. It will make a new device folder in the nandroid folder, then you can manually move your others over to the new one.

No confirmation post
I wish he would have confirmed this works, I just got a lemon exchange from the SHack and I'm wondering if I have to set it all back up or if I can just restore to an old backup. I understand that this works in theory and I get the whole changing the device id thing but there is no confirmation that this works.
BUT i will try and give a yay or nay confirmation now.
Edit: IT DOES Work. I did this on a LG G2x. It did not have the device ID I expected., (worried me a little it was the wrong stuff), I assume some phone have this some don't, but as far as I can tell this worked just fine.
I'm geeked when i realized I had to redo my 12 emails and sign into a dozen or more apps and config all those personalized settings again I was pissed. But now I'm good.
Thanks XDA and all the Devs and Geeks out there that make this a great site.
no folder as nandroid only clockworkmod which as all my backup. opening a backup folder shows XXXXX.md5, XXXXX.vfat.tar, XXXXX.rfs.tar, XXXXX.rfs.tar, XXXXX.rfs.tar
Hello is there any ethical hacker out there or at least one who could help me with my current situation. I own a Nokia 8 which I bought last year. My error is that I immediately placed the sd card of my old phone samsung j7 to the newly purchased phone not knowing it has a virus, I noticed my old phone doing crazy things when I factory reset it. Since it is rooted, the virus seemed to have taken hold of all system apps and has been updating itself and i recently noticed something fishy with my nokia 8, I tried chatting with support before but they just dismissed it. What I did exactly was to delete the folders that keep reproducing on the files folder of my nokia 8 it contained about 6 gb before and as I kept deleting it, I noticed that all my Photos 40 GB to be exact became 23gb and as i kept deleting the 1 kb files in the file folder I also deleted a DCIM folder but I think it was not thre DCIM for pictures since it was placed in unknown folders. I tried all kinds of recovery even windows based but it seems like there was nothing deleted as it would have been scanned, and it keeps saying that I need to root it. I don’t want to root it because I might give unlimited power to the hacker or to whatever virus is doing this. Please I need help desperately thanks. All my Photos and files were deleted.
So, you have described your problem. But you did not tell nothin about what exactly you want to someone helped you with. What kind of help you are expect from the community? To repare your data? Or to kill the virus? Or maybe to cure the phone? The best way in your situation is Factory reset for phone (without SD-card) and formatting the SD-card by any tool or even Windows formatting function. If the data is need to be repared try to format the card firstly, than scan it by the R-studio or similar software for search deleted files. Most of the tools of this kind have an options to scan for the concret data like the photos, music etc. Use this option to find all kinds of images and repare it to your hard drive. As I understood from your post you have the PC virus lives at your card? Or it is Android malware? Its very difficult to help you remotely. Nobody knows what exactly happened with your card and with your phone. If the data is not very imortant for you just format the card and the phone (reset it to factory defaults) and scan your PC for viruses for more sureness.

The advice I gave you is general in nature and is not required to be executed exactly. Better find among your friends or colleagues someone who understands computers and ask him to help you understand your situation. It will be most right to do.

I removed my sd card. All my photos, videos and files are in the phone memory. I want to recover at least all the photos and videos. I have not deleted them I only deleted the files in the files folder. I’m still unsure of what happened either there as a virus or my phone was hacked since it was tampered with. I guess people were interested in deleting my recordings and photos or proof
You completely confused me. Put your card into card-reader and copy all data to PC. Then scan the card for deleted files without filter. Recover all of them to hard drive then sort recovered files which are needed and which are not. Then format the card by any formatting tool. Copy all important data from your phone to PC to safe place and do factory reset on the phone. It will destroy all data including the possible virus or whatever it was. Do not store the important data on the mobile. Do not forget to remove google account before doing factory reset, because the first start after the reset will tell that the phone is locked to account and will ask to enter login/password. If the account will be romoved before the reset you`ll be proposed to setup the mobile as a new one - like you just bought it. That`s all I can to advice to you.
I’m sorry, i meant to say. That my photos and videos are in the phone memory not in the sd card. What I think the virus did is to hide all my photos. My lock screen images, gboard images, and wallpaper is still there which means the photos were not deleted.
As I said - use the card-reader to explore the files on your card. Enable "Show hidden files" in Explorer to see all of data of the card. You will be able to copy files to PC even if the status is "hidden". Then uncheck attribute hidden in fole properties on eache file. Then format your card as mentioned above.
You can do the same except the formatting with the phone memory. I mean copy important files from phone to PC and "unhide" them.
Make the batch file with .cmd extention with this text:
attrib -S -H /D /S
Save it to folder containing your hidden files and execute it. It will unhide all the files in folder and you will see them in Explorer

It`s probably your PC is contaminated by virus that makes your files hidden, so scan it by antivirus with latest bases.

The problem is that the virus/hijacker has manged to hide it all. It shows as blank. All of my files even my music, only apps are working , but not doing their part. I checked with Sophos Security ( antivirus installed) that most of stock and even pre-installed apps have been modified like for example google play services : other permissions
-android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS - no description
-android.permission.MANAGE_ACCOUNTS - no desription
-android.permission.READ_PRIVILEGED_PHONE_STATE - nod description
android.permission.ALLOCATE_AGGRESSIVE - no description
android.permission.CONNECTIVITY_USE_RESTRICTED_NETWORKS -no description
I have about 30 other permissions which are bothersome.

Ok. I said above that you can explore your files via USB cable from PC, if there no files are visible, so you can to try to enable show hidden files in options of folder: Control Panel->Explorer parameters (it may be another name in English, I`m Russian and use a Russian locale in Windows)->View-> in the end of list see check-box "Show hidden files, folders and disks". Now you must be able to see hidden files in phone memory. Copy all of them to you PC and do the script as mentioned above. put it to folder with the hidden files and run it. It will unhide all files in the folder. You can do th same with the files from SD card. Now your data is OK. After all procedures you can format the card and reset your mobile to factory reset - it will delete all possible virus or whatever it was and your phone will work well as it must to. SD card wil be clear after formatting and apps will save and use their data properly. Use it as usual. Keep your data on PC - this is much more safe then mobile.
upd.
Run Notepad copy this text
attrib -S -H /D /S
paste it to Notepad, save the file unhide.cmd, for example - it is simple Windows command line script that cleans files attributes like "hidden" "system" or "read only".

Oh. I don’t know what happened. Malwarebytes says the ransomware protection was turned off and I have the old virus I had before, I don’t know if the virus I have was the one from the Phone, which seems to be cross-platform already. Is it okay to do the show hidden files or should I format my computer first. This is so frustrating.
What is Malwarebyte? Do "Show hiddin files". You need to backup your media, right? Do it. Media files does not victim for viruses. They are probably clean. Anyway copy files if it possible.
