Hi. I found a way to make htc album ignore some folders you don't want to see . For example i do not want it to show me all pictures stored in "/Program files".
You just have add values to the registry with the route of the folder you want to ignore in
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCAlbum/Ignore
the problem is that it doesn't work for folders in the Internal Storage, like tom tom map folder ("\Internal storage\Iberia" in my case)
Any help?
Thanks
Does this work for music and videos too?
music???? its about htc album, so i guess pictures and videos, but nothing related to music..

If you store album art in the form of jpg's, then the Picture Viewer will display those mixed in with your real photos. Ideally, you would want to exclude the Music folder.
in fact, the music folder is by default excluded in my daimond, but only music folder in main memory.
the problem is that i can not manage to exclude folders in internal storage, it just doesnt work.. if someone manages to exclude folders in internal storage, we will be able to exclude any folder we want..
Don't have a Diamond for myself to try it but worth a try if you haven't already. Have you tried e.g. using "\Iberia" instead of "\Internal storage\Iberia"?
thanks for your answer. yes, i did, but did not work.
also tried "storage card\iberia" and "\%storage card%\iberia
Any update on this?
Would be nice to get rid of unwanted folders in Album...
...If I find something I will post it here...
Any updates?

This has been mentioned a few times before.
Connect the diamond to a PC in disk drive mode and use windows explorer to find all image files. Select the ones you don't want to see in album and mark them as hidden. Once the files are all hidden, the folders will no longer appear in Album.
Thanks man,
Stupid me never thought of that.

TY for this info mas now Album folder is usable !
This usually happens when the SD Card has been changed and you've drag and dropped the DCIM folder to the new card. Try renaming the current DCIM folder, then reinsert the card and take a new picture. Copy paste the old 100media folder to the new DCIM folder. Soft reset. Tada!

Have you ever been listening to your Britney Spears, Daft Punk or Tupac and suddenly you start hearing files that aren't music (i.e ringtones, notification sounds, etc.)? I find it pretty annoying that there is no current method to hide these files from the music player, until now.
I would like to give credit to Scheff's Blend for this idea, and after tinkering with the the doom game folder on my memory card, I found a file called ".nomedia". Within that same folder was over 100 sound files for the game doom, BUT my music player was not reading that specific folder.
I figured it had to do something with that ".nomedia" file, and coincidentally it DID.
Instructions:
1) Download and unzip nomedia.zip somewhere onto your computer
2) Inside is a file called .nomedia, copy it into the directory of media files you want to hide
3) Reboot your phone
P.S. This also works for pictures and video files, BUT for newly taken pictures and videos, or music files added, a REBOOT is REQUIRED to hide them again.
WARNING: this completely hides the files from the phone, so they become unusable to any application until the .nomedia file is removed, and the phone is restarted. I know Scheff's Blend found a way to use those files while hiding them, yet I haven't. If anyone wants to help me out, feel free to.
I know a lot of people wanted to know how to do this, so sorry to any mod who notices I double posted, but I just realized I should have put it in this forum section to begin with. Feel free to delete the other thread in the "Dream" section.
Right on.
Another option that works is placing files you want hidden inside of a folder that starts with a period, such as ".hiddenfolder" or ".stuffimhiding"
Files and folders that begin with a period are considered hidden files by the Android OS and do not show up in Gallery or the music app
Thanks man..
was looking for a way to do this..

Thanks, thats good to know. But can they be used by lets say the dialer.apk as a ringtone?
I do the same thing with Astro. Like Dave said, keeping a folder with a dot at the front and anything within won't be read unless opened by Astro or renamed. This may not work for the ringtones, but its quicker than having to reboot if you just want to hide photos, documents, videos, etc.
I have problem where videos in folder w/ .nomedia get deleted at each reboot... Now using Cyan 4.1.11.1... Really weird. Each reboot deletes videos in those folders

TY
Recently I tried to stop the gallery from scanning the media files (pictures) on storage with .nomedia.txt. It didnt seem to work so I ignored it. After a few days I found that my videos were "duplicated" At first there were two and then more and more. Everytime I scan media, more pops up. It seems these are just thumbnails that link to no where. As I have tried to play the files and it says file was not found. I have removed the .nomedia.txt file does not seem to resolve the problem.
Im on GT-i9000 Firmware 2.2 JPM baseband.
Just wanted you to know, you're not alone.
I'm on 2.2 JPD and have the exact same issue. Thumbnails for videos are massively duplicated in Gallery.
Don't really know why this happens, but I don't really use Gallery in the first place so it doesn't bother me as much since all my vids are in 1 directory and pictures in another.
No problems with picture thumbnails, just vid thumbnails.
The file you are making shouldn't be .nomedia.txt , Its .nomedia (without the .txt) Also I recommend you use Mvideoplayer to view videos as its awsome. If you are gutsy you could delete the /mnt/sd_card/.gallerycache folder.
To make that .nomedia file just make a blank file using notepad but when saving select ALL FILES in the option that says "Save file as"

Yup just video thumbnails. Anyways I decided to delete all the extra thumbnails and did a few reboot n rescan. the issue seems to have resolved itself how strange !
check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831042&page=6
it solved my multiple thumbnails.
I fixed mine by formatting my SD card and putting everything back in afterwards. and I deleted the thumbnail folder in DCIM.
So I loaded Serendipity today. Master cleared and everything. So I was really surprised to find old pictures on my phone when I opened the gallery app. And strangely it wouldn't let me delete them. Hmm. So I looked in the sd folders, dcim etc. Cannot find these pics anywhere! The gallery app did tell me the file names So I loaded up root explorer and ran a search... NOTHING!
These pics show in my gallery but I can't find the files anywhere. Where are they hiding?

Went into the stetting, manage applications, to the gallery app and hit clear data, and these strange photos vanished! Still don't know where they were. but they are gone now. Would loveto hear where they were stored if anyone knows...
Spoke too soon! So after a reboot, the folder of pics comes back! If I clear the gallery app's data, it vanishes again, but returns after every reboot. Can anyone help with this?
Is it a stack of thumbnails (separate folder path) or viewable image files? If you have external SD maybe browse it on a PC.
It still there with no external SD, and I can't find it from the PC or root explorer.
You, know, I have a blog, and these all seem to be photos on my blog. And blogger seems to be hooked to Picasa Web albums. So I'm thinking Gallery pulls pulls the contents of my Picasa Web album down to the phone... could this be? Can it be stopped?

If you have them linked then yes that is where they are comming from and why they keep comming back. The only way to stop it would be to but a no media file in the target folder, back draw is that the file will hide it from all Android apps that look for media
Recently got this phone and I wanted to transfer my old pictures from my old phones (samsung and Motorola) and the format is just plain jpeg. The folder contains 400 photos and maybe 50 videoclips. I transfer the whole folder from my computer to my LG:s external sd card (32gb) and all is well. When I then unplugg my phone and open the folder in the gallery, I can se all the movies and pictures but there is also alot of empty grey squares(see pics). It looks like files but not really cause there is no photo. It now reads 900 files in the folder, so I suppose it has somehowe copied all the files but into unrecognizable files?
The sceenhots beneath are from the gallery and the information about an "empty file".
I have retried copying the folder serveral times without success.
I have also looked in the folder via my computer and I can't see these "extra files".
What to do?

But small file transfers works just well. Maybe it's just to many files in one folder? Going to try to split them up.
I am a new user of Xperia SP and i don't want to show my whatsApp images in the gallery.
Is there anyone who are facing same problem and also please give me some tips.

It's not possible, because Whatsapp triggers the internal media library. You could manually clean media storage and sony gallery data or use an alternative app.
I would recommend Quicpic for general pictures like DCIM and Sony Album for dirty Whatsapp Images

undisputedpro's method is better, creating a folder prevents media apps from scanning the contents with that folder present on same directory. I'm using this method since i always save pages with the UC Browser and its annoying to see that the images embedded on the page is being scanned by our phone, result is it is displayed on the Picture widget of our Home launchers and gallery apps.
Thanks for the tips.
I have this same problem with TomTom, despite all the folders have a nomedia file in them, the images still show up in album. However, the whatsapp sent folder, which also contains a nomedia file does not show up...

I use quickpic so .nomedia file works i dont use album for veiwing pics
The pictures, movies and sounds sent and recieved from whatsapp are stored in the internal SDcard in the folder Whatsapp. IF you place a .nomedia file do this in all the folders This helps for me
I second what @mrjraider had written.
The Xperia Album galery app does honor .nomedia files... but only if the .nomedia file is located on the same folder as the pictures. It will still scan subfolders underneath for pictures.
So, go to Whatsapp's Images folder (by default located in /storage/sdcard0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images ), and create a file named ".nomedia" (dot nomedia, without quotes) there. Inside that folder, there's a Sent subfolder. You might also want to create the ".nomedia" file there.
Do likewise for ther folders inside /storage/sdcard0/WhatsApp/Media, if necessary.
Don't forget to 'close' the Album app (tap "Recent Apps" button [the rightmost one] and swipe the "Album" app to the side), before opening it again.
You'll see that the Album app honors the .nomedia files.
.
so let me check if I got it right.
I have to create ".nomedia" FILE not FOLDER in the folder that contains the pictures I want Album app to not see.

Yes.
Also, clear cache on album and media scanner.
