This is a cool app. I like the ability to have the temp in your top bar.
Cool. Thanks for the link.
Unfortunately, it keeps locking up my Tilt....
I'm suspicious of Weather Bug. I remember a few years back, this app would sneak in on my desktop and was a pain to remove it. Seems like it was part of some spy/ad ware.
Very nice...thank you. I loved weatherbug back in the day before subscription, I hope it stays free this time.

I have to agree with you on that... LOL I wouldn't even install weather bug on your device if I didn't like you. It's spyware and you should avoid it. Why not try weather to go or weather watcher mobile?
After testing for a few days I ended up uninstalling it. For some reason it seemed to drain my battery faster.
I'll just settle for my Throttlelauncher weather now, after flashing Throttle Diamond.
Weatherbug is draining your battery because it is known to constantly connect not only to get weather updates but to also perform its adware\spyware functions. I would stay away from it. Once installed it is very hard to get rid of.
WeatherBug pwns you all..

Such FUD.
Weatherbug for the PC desktop, the free version, certainly does contain adware.
But this is a Today Screen Plugin folks. What adware is going to run on a today screen plugin on a mobile phone? Spyware? Spying what for crying out loud?
And to remove it, go to remove programs, and poof, it's gone, as gone as any other today plugin.
And if it's draining the batter, try going into options and changing the update frequency so it's not banging away at your data connection all the time. Any weather app will drain the battery if it's updating frequently enough.
gwnorth pwnz you all now too.
sorry I just had to use that pic. Just look at that cat, omg I can't stop laughing.

gwnorth is correct, no problems whatsoever uninstalling the program. Yes, the pc version was a little difficult to uninstall back in the day.

The program was connecting to the internet each time I woke the phone from sleep mode. It wasn't a phenomenal amount of battery drain but it was noticeable to me.
We obviously have a difference of opinion about the PPC version. The one thing we all do seem to agree on is the PC version was somewhat nefarious. Based on the history you should be skeptical of the newest PPC version. Weatherbug is not to be trusted, in my opinion. But you are free to add whatever you want to your PPC. I am not as confident as you are that it is completely removed.

I flash my ROM to something new at least once a week...believe me, even if I didn't completely remove it I won't ever see it again on my Tilt.
there's always weather watcher mobile. It's free and his desktop software is really good (and ad free)

Never used it as I'm OK with HTC's version...

Anyone know how weatherbug gets the temp to display on the taskbar ?
I like the severe weather alerts (too many damn tornadoes in Kentucky), and I'm not aware of any other weather apps that will sound an alarm if severe weather is inbound. If others can be made to do this I would like to try them out. Its not that I dislike weatherbug, I've just been using it for years.

Well
I think Chrome even if it´s not a beta anymore, it´s a very young browser, fast in fact but very limitated in other functions, maybe in a couple of years is going to be a great option, but by now I´ll stick to the majestic Opera!
nice browser ... shame its not on mac yet
Oh well,. yeah,. thanks for the info guys!!,. i am downloading now,. hehe,. last time i download before i format my PC, it say Google Chrome BETA,.
Some issues I run into (I've used it since day one of it's release to the public):
Flash videos work off and on. This seems to be consistent, I will go to play a youtube video and will need to restart the browser because the audio or video will not play.
Spellcheck sucks.
Very few add on's. Add on's are what make firefox so great.
Some pages just do not interact well with Chrome. If you go to a lot of message boards you know what I mean.
Highlighting anything is a PIA. Many times you will will try to highlight one individual word and end up with long blank fields. When you copy and paste it then just comes up blank with the whole field minus the word...WTF??
Other then those few things it's a great browser and I use it full time for work and play.
Ive got a portable version if anyone is interested and doesnt want to actually install it.
Send me a pm if you fancy it
I.M.O not enough to it yet, security wise i can beef up Firefox, don't like Google policies & i need a browser that works efectively on UMPC so Firefox 3 it is...
One of co workers installed chrome on my computer at work so I gave it a try. I started using it more and more since it starts up in half the time IE, or Firefox does. Since then I've been using it ever since. I don't need the fancy plug-ins from firefox and IE just plain sucks. Easy choice IMO.
Also its no longer in beta.
I would recommend switching to "SRWare Iron" as it is Chrome without all the Spyware Crap that Google put into the Browser (Unique ID, constantly running updater and stuff like that).
It is based on Chromium, which is the base for Google Chrome.
It even looks and handles the same as Chrome & Chromium...
I used Chrome since the beta because I preferred the look of it.
Thanks to this thread - I'm now using SRWare Iron which I'll keep an eye on too..
Cheers.

Oh, thankyou, so now i am not wrong if google chrome ever have a beta version,. lol
After I using Iron for a week I switched back to chrome. Spellcheck doesn't work, and its slower to load pages. The privacy issue isn't a problem because there are programs which remove your unique ID and you can simply disable sending google your browsing information in the options menu. The only thing that Iron has going for it over Chrome is a better looking icon.
Chrome Rocks!
I to have been using google chrome since the earlly beta.
to clear things up, There are two version available. Stable releases and a "developer" version (which is like a beta version.)
Personally i love the broswer for its speed but like already mentioned, it doesn't like all websites. I can't stand IE so i keep firefox around incase i have problems. Things are getting beter all the time for chrome though (for example it used to be almost useless for facebook and now its basically fully compatible) I'm proud to say its my default browser
This became a POLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See the top if you know any other tell me! to include it!

I used this for almost 3 days now. It's the best AIM app for Android by far, but it drains the battery fast. Besides that, it's great.
It seems a little laggy and definitely uses more memory/system resources than eBuddy. I'm leaving it installed, but I'll be sticking with eBuddy for daily IM usage.
It uses a lot of battery, and signs out when the phone goes to sleep. I constantly find myself having to re-login.

It keeps me logged in 24/7 (unless I'm on the phone and I lose 3g connectivity, but then it would log me back in when I get off the phone and regain internet connection), but then again, I am running 96mb swap.
keeps me logged in...I have it excluded with Advanced task manager...then again, I haven't put the phone down since I installed it...lol...
but so far the best AIM app...doesn't use the dictionary unfortunately so typing can get annoying, not sure if that's a KingKlick Eclair rom issue or the app itself...but all in all 4/5 is def a proper rating...could easily be 5/5 if I could remove the damn livestream and its tabs completely..not a lot of settings though.
I keep it excluded aswell in Advanced Task Manager, and I've been using it all day, and it's gone out on me multiple times, and I spent a good 6 hours with full 3g coverage, so I know it wasn't a matter of losing data. Even or wifi I lose it, and I have wifi lock on aswell to keep it from disabling while going to sleed/stand by. And I have a 128mb swap, not sure what that would have to do with it logging on or off...
I've been using HiAIM beta ever since I got my phone. It doesn't disconnect me unless I'm on the phone (which is normal). I like the interface a lot more than anything else I have used (I turn off bubble-style chat).
nice! great that aim finall released for android. i am currently using helloIM which is great and i think better at this point than this one. but helloIM is no longer supported by its devs i think, so i have a felling official AIM will be the one to use for the future as they update it more.
I heard on the news that Facebook chat will be available through 3rd party IM apps like yahoo messenger and AIM.....can anyone confirm this?

Link your facebook to your aim screen name with the latest beta desktop aim client so when you log into AIM with the official app, you can also log into your facebook chat.

Great! Thanks a million.
It looks nice, however it is a mega battery drainer, my phone also heats up quite a bit but that may be because I'm listening to music at the same time. Does anyone know if messages sent through this application to cellphones count as messages or date?
[AIM can also send text messages, im wondering if they count as texts or not]

It looks almost identical to Community Hero Mix, but slightly different (especially the battery indicator).
iVisionX01, how did you get your data indicator to display "H" instead of "3G"? Or is that included with the ROM?
My apologies gentlemen I have a Nexus One. I'm using CyanogenMOD 5.0 w/ the Smooth Black Bar Theme.
Interesting, I didn't know that the H was included with CM5. I'm requesting that he also make that change for the next release of CM4.
should i use ANTIvirus and ANTI malware?
on my PC i have kaspersky and Malware bytes
should i have something similar on my android phone?
This should not be necessary as long as you don't use any files from unknown sources. For example only use the market to install applications, only copy files from your pc to your phone (they will be scanned on your pc), and as usual be careful for attachments in your mailbox. Check where they come from and if you receive "sexy girls.bat" from anyone (even a friend) don't open it...
You can always connect phone in mass storage mode and run kaspersky on the two memory cards .

-also the scan with kaspersky was a great idea

I'm resurrecting this thread since I read the article on here about dodgy virus market apps
I couldn't find it again to post it.
But do I need a security program on my phone
if so whats good or are there any free ones?

i use 'MyLookout' its a free app (also a paid version) and everytime something new is put onto the phone, MyLookout will automatically scan it for malware, its a really good app.
also another advantage of this app, is you can do backups to the cloud.
And another thing. If your device was to go missing, you can simply log on to the website MyLookout.com from your PC or another Phone, there you can switch on GPS, track the Phone down, perform a full wipe, lock the device, Sound an alarm on the phone which cannot be turned off.
and the best feature, is you can select an option so the app will not uninstall, so the thief who took your phone, cannot uninstall the app. Meaning you can always keep tracking it down
you can do all this from any PC / Mobile
Dr Web antivirus light is nice too

No just don't install sketchy apps.
Then again I don't use AV on my PC's either...it has proven useless in the past as it doesn't keep up with the attackers quickly enough. These days I go with a 'perimeter defense', keep the hostile code from running on the machine in the first place rather than running every damn thing and counting on some program to be current enough to save me.
Kaspersky Mobile Security is the best
Though i'm not using it right now.
I use lookout and find it excellent, though as others rightly say your phone is not nearly as vulnerable as your pc and by following common sense behaviour you should be totally fine. Give lookout a try as it includes lost phone detection and wiping too.

Why should I care about malware when I flash the phone every two weeks!!
(sometimes less time)
I don't, because I want to maintain maximum performance and battery life. Plus I'm not sure how effective any of the products are.
I must say though, I am a lot more careful about reading permissions and installing untested apps these days, after reading about the droid-dream malware etc.
nipip: lol true, same here
What about NetQin
Galaxy S XWJVB
And where to get kaspersky from? its not in the market
Galaxy S XWJVB
I use Lookout and have been very happy with it. Sure it may be a placebo at this moment. But as smartphones become the net access tool of choice for more people, malware will get worse as time goes by.
Plus I feel those people who say they can avoid trouble on their phones and even PCs by just not downloading "dodgy" code are massively underestimating the asshats out there and the ways that harmful code can be hidden. If you open a PDF or even a website, you ARE vulnerable.

Concerning to performance issue, I do not think it's a good idea to use an antivirus app
This is a feature that some of us have been requesting for a longgggg time, and it is finally here.
It is especially helpful for Nooks, since they don't have cell phone.
In Google Maps 5.7 - just released - go to Labs, and enable Download Map Area, and then, when you have Wifi access, you can download maps onto your Nook for places you are going to.
Then later, when you don't have Wifi access (because you are not home, nor in a hotel, coffee store or library), you can still use the downloaded maps to find your way ... to somewhere with Wifi access.
Thanks to Ole, the dev at Google for this feature.
Very cool. Will have to try it out.

No, it is a 10 mile square = 100 square miles. And you can download more than one area if you want. But you cannot do routing on downloaded maps, so this is probably more interesting for pedestrians than for drivers.
Just tried this, and it's actually 10 miles in each direction from the point you select, which means 20x20 miles = 400 sq. miles.
Only problem, where does it download the map to? I've got 7.0.3 running from my SD card. And yes, I'm new, or I'd probably know the answer.
Found the download location. Open the maps app (even though you're offline), menu/More/Cache Settings/Downloaded map areas.
Totally cool feature, OP is right. I prefer not to use a GPS, this'll come in handy.
Hell yes! Now I can download maps for all of the areas I may frequent and have them ready to go, no need to tether (painfully, mind you) with my GhettroPCS data...
Tested by downloading a map area that I hadn't cached before, turned off my wifi, and then zoomed into the square. Voila, all the street names appeared and the correct zoom-level map tiles loaded.
It takes only seconds to download map areas on WiFi.
Nice feature!
Nice feature, but still fairly worthless as it limits the downloads to 10. Perhaps the next update will allow you to cache a reasonable amount of maps.....
It's only 10sq miles at a time, you can just keep adding on more and more, I've cached the whole of greater Phoenix, Tempe and Sun City Arizona. This will definitely come in handy for me... if they add offline routing all the better...

"What we have here is.... failure... to communicate."
The squares for the city look good, but MY complaint is that basically, i would like to cache my entire state (I love being outdoors and on the road, and having a variety of maps available is always a good thing). But because you can only have 10 squares at any one time, the caching is still worthless to me (cached city data is not what i need. I need data on the boonies).

Hello friends!
Many of you are faced with the problem of fast battery drain. One way to improve the situation is to disable or remove unnecessary applications (like bloatware) that are running in the background. Now you have a great opportunity to do it with the help of the wonderful ADB AppControl and my list of over 100 applications that can be safely disabled.

Download ADB AppControl, load this preset and disable apps. You can always enable any applications if you need them.
This preset may not have many regional apps, so please create and share your own presets. This is very easy to do when you learn how to use the program.

Yes, I am an ADB AppControl developer and have been developing this program since May 2020. My goal is to make working with ADB simple and accessible to everyone. This is my first time on xda. I have a website and a topic on the forum where thousands of people are already using my program. Galaxy Note10 lite is my main smartphone, I use it in development. And this preset includes applications that are disabled for me.
Small clarification, It is when I installed "ACBridge" that I had this alert and it's a shame, given my concerns about autonomy, this program might have been able to help me.
Thanks for the clarification. This is a false positive for your antivirus. You can use the program without installing ACBridge and apply my preset, but you will lose some of the really cool functions (no application icons and names). In the future, I plan to place ACBridge in the Play Market, but this will require some work and costs.
And I have a little request for everyone. If you have used ADB AppControl, please leave feedback in the program topic. It's important for me. Thank you.
To be sure that I could use it safely, I asked Bitdefender to analyze the program.
If it can help you
I will say it again - there are no viruses in the program. It works with devices via adb and this may be perceived by antiviruses as a potentially security risk. This is called a false positive. You've already launched the program and your computer hasn't grown horns, have you?
Hello
Finally I did not wait for Bitdefender's response, I hope my battery drain concerns will be resolved.
Edit: So that there are no doubts in the discussions, I prefer to give Bitdefender's answer, the application is healthy.

I have disabled all applications from this preset. In my opinion, the life from one charge has increased. I charge my note10 lite once every 2 days and have up to 8 hours of screen.
@Cyber.Cat
After reading the few posts I want to add that the app works like a charm, I am very satisfied because of its easyness.
As said there is no virus inside, antivir apps -if so - report false positive. On my side no antivirus warning with avast.
And the perfect thing is: you can use it on any adb capable device. Excellent masterpiece.
Thanks a lot to the dev.
Exceptional piece of software that saves loads of time - loads. Been modding for days & used this to freeze 170 processes on my new s21 Ultra. Worth every penny!
Finally, I found and got rid of the Software Update application (com.wssyncmldm) that keeps sending system update messages insistently. I do not need an update, because each new one destroys the device's performance.
