does anybody know if this phone supports UMTS on 850 Mhz? According to the specification on the HTC Europe homepage it does not. Here in Latin America according to some salesman the version for America supports it. But since this model is not yet on the HTC Latin America homepage i'm not sure if it was already launched or if even exist a vesion for America.

no version for US avail yet. The US version, assuming its a GSM phone (not CDMA), would support 850. But no announcement offically about that yet. ALL CURRENTLY AVAILABLE DIAMONDS as of July 2, 2008 DO NOT SUPPORT 850 UMTS, and to date, no one has found a way to make it support 850 UMTS (i.e. it is a hardware issue, not a software or ROM issue).

It has been announced here in Australia that our biggest carrier, Telstra will market the Diamond exclusively for 3 months from the end of July with a 850/2100 UMTS version. Other carriers here use 900/2100 UMTS.
So where we normally get these devices early with Asia and Europe, this Telstra deal will push us back with the U.S. I don't think we will see a 900 UMTS version here till end October, unless we buy online from HK or elsewhere with compromised warranty.
Bummer.
Telstra in Australia has announced that the "NextG" i.e 850MHz UTMS/HSDPA diamond will be released in August
The Diamond will go on sale in Australia on July 28th at the T-Life stores in Sydney and Melbourne.
All other Telstra stores will stock it from August 4th.

There is no such thing as a tri-band UMTS Diamond, all are just dual band. 850/1900 for the US Version, 850/2100 for the Australia version, and 900/2100 for the European version.
I thought I read somewhere that there is an Australian version of the Touch Diamond 120 (100 for Europe/Asia, 110 for NAM) that supports dual-band UMTS 850/2100, which should let 3G work on any continent. If someone actually has this model or can confirm, that would be great.
EDIT: Whoops, guess the guy above me posted a little faster Anyone know if an online retailer has the AUS model on sale?
Well it wouldn't work in any place that requires 900, it also wouldn't work on AT&T in certain 1900-only 3G zones. I don't know what market uses what frequency for AT&T, so I really couldn't tell you if your area will work with the 850/2100 Diamond or not.

Yessuh, all Diamonds have it, but it doesn't work. It doesn't reflect the hardware in the device at all, standard to all devices.
I know this device is 3G Networked (HSDPA 900 / 2100) for Europe.
My question is, will there be a 3G Network device version (HSDPA 850 / 1900) for America ?
I know the Europe version is hardwired for Europe and can not be converted to work in America, yes?

You are right. HTC has not yet luanched this device with 3G compatibility with US operators.
Rumour: HTC is planning to launch 3G compatible(for US) device by september 2009.

With the Diamond 1 it could be configured to be UMTS 850. Telstra in Australia produced a ROM for the Diamond1 that was UMTS 850/2100.
Telstra run on UMTS 850 because Telstra are dodgy and want unique handsets. Other Australian providers are UMTS 2100 or UMTS 900 /2100.
I would say that the same will apply for the Diamond 2. The hardware will allow all frequencies but you will need a ROM that enables what you need. The UMTS 850 ROMs appear to be vendor rather than region specific.

The original specs(before the D2 was released) showed al 4 3G freqs. So I believe you are correct in your assumption that this can be done through rom.
I wanted to get an inspire 4g but the crappy battery life and almost impossible to remove battery cover (for using an extra battery) turns me off so i was thinking of getting the incredible s but my provider uses 850/1900 3g bands , has a model with those working bands been announced?

what the hell is aws? i checked gsm and looks like it could work, it says

The specs for the Incredible S says basically it won't work for the provider that your using. The Bell is rumored to receive the device which means if that happened, that specific model will have the 3G bands you desire. It's supposed to be released on April 4th. It's a rumor though so don't get your hopes up.

As an employee of one of Bell's dealer stores I can certify that it's in our system but there's no release date yet.
Bell uses 3G 850/1900 HSPA bands only for their service.

In gsmarena it's written that it does support 3G 850MHz, but in a few stores (clove, handtec) its written that it doesn't support.
Is it have several variants or the information on the stores is wrong?

On LG's product site for the phone (LG DE):
Quadband (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) + UMTS (850/900/1900/2100 MHz) + HSPA+ 21Mbit/s
In LG UK it has HSPA+ 21 900/1900/2100
So maybe there are two variants.

The hardware must be the same, I'm in the UK but bought mine in from Germany as it hasn't been available.
Works out cheaper anyway.
I'm not sure but i don't think 850 MHz is used in the UK or Europe, it might be a US frequency. On the UK LG website it says it's got 850 and 900 so it should work in the US and Europe. Unless there's 2 different versions of the phone it should be fine, obviously have the correct Sim card for the country your in otherwise you could get some hefty charges.
I'm looking to buy the developer edition from HTC, but i'm worried about the LTE bands since I would be moving between the US and Hong Kong.
Over here I'm using T-mobile, and if IIRC Hong Kong LTE are all 1800 / 2600

I am in the same boat as you... I bought the dev edition and i travel between Seattle and HK a lot... As for LTE I guess I wont really care about that since I am just used to 3G anyways. other than that Because the bands for USA and HK for LTE are different you will have to choose between having LTE in one of the countries, you currently cant have both.
BUT if you travel between HK and EURO a lot you would better be off with the HK version since its the same LTE bands.
Just as a note i dont have my phone yet.. I had it shipped to my address in seattle then someone sent it to me here in HK should be here by friday and ill let you know if i have LTE but i highly doubt it haha.
