Resolved:I think I have an emergency....HELPPPP! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I was messing with bluetooth trying to sync using it and now I cannot get my Tilt to connect to my laptop at all.
I also noticed that many of my icons don't work anymore.
I have ghosted my hard drive (removing any bluetooth software) and removed the COM port references in my phone, still nothing.
Anyone have any idea how I might get the usb connection restablished?
I'm desparate - all ideas welcome,
MBN

try a hard reset, it will set your phone like it came out of the box.
for hard a reset, press the 2 soft keys while inserting the stylus in the soft reset hole.

Cosmic Blue, thanks for the quick response.
Okay, I'm an idiot.... two soft keys? Which ones are those? I'd try it right now if I knew...
and PS, I'm using No Thrills ROM, not the AT&T, does that matter?

^ the soft keys are the buttons above the internet and messaging buttons.

Thanks for the input, because I was guessing, I tried "holding down" the Calendar and Contacts menu items and then rest.
Although it didn't rewrite the phone, it somehow managed to get the usb connection working again (and trust me, I'd already tried every other reset/reboot without luck).
So I then was able to reinstall the ROM. After all that, I found out that it happened all over again when I reinstalled Good Mail. Good grief, I hate this program, but have to have it for work.
Looks like Good Mail isn't compatible with No Thrills 6.1.

What happens if you dont clean registry hive?

Hi All
Just recently upgraded to WM6, but have not cleaned registry (the whole yes, no, no thing) and the device is working pretty well (minor bluetooth issues). Will this come back to bite me in the future, or can I just leave it be?
Thanks
CeRRaNo
wow, hang on there, it should be no+yes+yes... however, if you dont do this, you'll be still having ur old(previous) windows registry in it, it will lead you into trouble...
I'll tell you what happens, Explorer will not use any network connections - you just get connection errors, Activesync won't sync, programs won't install. At least that's what happened to me when I had finger trouble with the mail button.

AT&T Tilt will not connect to compter

Good day all.
My 8925 has been working fine, until this morning :-(.
Now, I cannot get it to connect to the computer with the USB cable.
I have tried:
A second USB cable
A soft reset
A Hard Reset
A Hard reset followed by a restore.
I do not get the normal tones when the USB cable is plugged in or unplugged, But I do get a charge light, so I know it is making connection.
I cannot get ActiveSync or Internet Sharing to see the computer from the phone.
Any ideas before I send it in for service.
I have the ATT installed CAB.
Intermittently I get problems with connecting through activesync. Have you tried restarting your computer? Maybe something happened with the windows mobile services.
Try restarting your computer and soft resetting your phone. Once your computer has booted, connect your phone and just give it a minute. I haven't had the time to look into it beyond that. Hopefully that works for you.
i had problems until i connected my USB directly into my computer instead of a hub.
also, maybe try reinstalling active sync.
I am having the same problem, have Dutty's Touchflo Rom on my Tilt. My 8525 connects just fine, but the Tilt does not. I've tried soft reset, hard reset, reinstalled activesync, and nothing seems to work.
Try unchecking Enable advanced network functionality under Start\Settings\Connections\USB To PC

It is not checked, thanks.
Try checking it then
edit: I have had to use this setting in both modes for various ROMs to connect and sync with activesync. If that does not work Hard reset the phone and try both settings again.

Done all that too.
Guess I'll call AT&Ts not so technical dept.
You Ready Heres What happened to me.
First you need a magnyfine glass seriously, looke at the mini usb conector on your tilt. check to see that all of your pins are towards the top of the little plastic conector in the middle. (seems that in the dark while I was doing one of my many soft-resets I accidentaly put the stylus in the usb instead of the reset hole it felt the same becouse the plastic bends and it clicks just like a the reset, then you bend the pins down or towards the middle and they dont contact the inside top of the usb conector) check it out
it took me 3 days many soft and hard reset changing cables until I asked myself, How does that mini usb conector work anyway its still charging whats up?? You guys are gonna laugh but I bet it's the cause of many such problems.
first post little long sorry.
Thanks for the post. I was hoping, but that was nt my issue.
I had a similiar issue when flashing to a different rom. It would connect for a split second and then disconnect from activesync, but still charge the phone. I thought I was screwed until I found a way to reflash without using activesync. I was then able to reflash it back to the ATT rom and haven't had any issues since.
This is what I did (it might work for you). With the usb connected I held down the power button and camera button while doing a soft reset (similiar to how you do a hard reboot). This caused my phone to go into the tri color state for flashing. I then just ran the rom on my PC and it successfully reflashed my Tilt back to the ATT rom.
Regardless I hope you get things sorted out.

I am unsure what you are referring to here. The CD that came with the phone? Or a downloaded program?
How did you get it from the computer to the phone?
Thanks for the reply and I will try it.

I Can't Connect my Tilt...HELP!!

I've searched for an answer in these forums and can't find one. I have tried some suggestions from here to no avail. Well...here's the problem. I've had my Tilt for a couple of months. All has been great and i love it...up until now.
I've put several roms on it and they've all worked fine. Got that down...I thought. I can't get activesync to see the tilt on any of my computers. It won't find it on the laptop I've been using to load. My desktop at work, that I've been using sometimes to load it, won't see it and it won't even connect on a new computer in my office with fresh ASync 4.5. Like I said....it has been working fine I just decided today to load a new Dutty rom and I can't even hook up. Wow....this is so aggravating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Activesync is still on the tilt too. I've killed the program in taskmgr. I've stopped all running apps in the tilt. I have 2 different cables also. By the way....I don't care to wipe it clean...if I need to. Any suggestions as to what I can do? If anyone's got any clues to what my problem could be I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance for responses.
Desparate!
Please help me....if you can. I know there's a tremendous amount of knowledge here. Surely someone's been through this same problem and was able to fix it. I've seen another post similar to this and he's not getting an answer to his problem either. If I we need to contact HTC....please recommend that. Some of you "tilt masters" please respond. Thanks in advance.
Also I had a similar problem and i had installed a blackberry program on my tilt. That created a connection problem between my tilt and the sync program and it couldnt see my tilt. I figured out that the blackberry desktop program thought it had dibs on my tilt because the bb was on my tilt. I removed the BB off my tilt it did a hard reset and then proceeded to manually remove every windows mobile device partnership there were many. Rebooted my computer and tried it again and it worked. You could try a hard reset and then and then use system restore to a few days before you had the problem and see if you can trick it.
I had this problem.
Hard-Reset fixed it
Thanks for the replies....I've tried the hard reset twice and that didn't work either. Have been on the phone with HTC support and we did several things. Still not working. He was supposed to call me back in 10 min but didn't for a couple of hours. Anyway...I've got to contact them back and take up where we left off. Surely we can get this thing going again. If HTC can fix it....no one can. When we get it up and going...i'll report back here for others future needs. The phone works great besides that!
Again thank....and anyone else have a suggestion.
Please respond to...

Thanks..
Check the USB pins on the unit, mine were bent down and did not make contact, i think from memory the 3rd pin in is the data connection.

Hi,
it happened exactly the same situation to me then i installed HTC GPS TOOL (i found it on XDA but now i don't remember in which post, just use search) that i run before launching tomtom.
Hope it helps.
Panco
what settings do i need to use on there as i cant get it to connect on any port?
I have the HTC GPS Tool, on my Ignito the port is COM4 and it will connect at any baud rate.
I suggest you set the tool to - COM port: COM4 - Baudrate:38400 - Set the drop down box to 'Cold Start'
There is a label that says 'Open' , Click on it and it should change to 'Close' and you should start receiving data in the output window.
Check the drop down is set to 'Cold Start' and click on 'Nav Init' to reboot the GPS hardware.
If you are seeing any data in the O/P window then the GPS hardware is recognized and working.

just tried those settings but get " open com port failed" message.
Oops! Then it sounds like an OS problem or a hardware fault although that's pretty unlikely.
Unless anyone else has a better idea then maybe you need a hard reset?
If it's a WM problem then a reset will cure it
You can reset and leave the Internal Storage data intact, but you'll lose all your installed apps and data on the device of course, so backup (you probably know all this already )
EDIT: Just checking - you didn't change the com port accidentally somewhere did you
windows settings are set to com 4, none and baud to 4800 as i have seen on other posts but still no joy.
i cant even seem to do a hard reset as everytime i try as soon as i touch the red reset button the phone soft resets and doesnt come up with the hard reset menu. I am holiding volume down and enter quite firmly.
You can also hard reset from >Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage with the option to leave the Internal Storage drive untouched
done a hard reset and everything is working fine again! thx for your help

TouchScreen doesn't react, need a backup

Hello everyone,
since friday my mobiles touchscreen doesn't react anymore. Don't know why, but it worked totally fine and when I took it to write a message, nothing happened. As you can imagine the phone isn't worth a penny without it's touchscreen, so I took an old one, put in my sim and am now using that one.
Here comes my problem, of course all my contacts are saved in my phone and there are several mms and so on, which I'd like to save to my pc.
Is there any change of getting them out there? I don't know, something like a remote control for my device? To use it from my pc or something like that? I'm open to any ideas.
Thanks a lot
Alex
edit: The leftovers of my device still work perfectly! It turns around the screen, when putting it on the side, opens the Windows Start Windows, when pushing the button etc.

My Mobiler (free) or Pocket Controller (pay) allow you to control the device from your PC.
You can use M$ MyPhone to backup your SMS, etc.
I suggest doing a hard reset to try to get your screen back to verify its a hardware issue.
Okay, thanks for your fast answer. Loaded the programm, but it requires to start my mobile in active sync mode. But that's nearly impossible to me, cause everytime i plug in the usb cable, it asks me, to start as active sync, disk drive or internet sharing. For bad luck the default is disk drive and I can't change it to active sync. Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes, that's a hard place to get out of.
I was just helping another user with this same issue.
First, please confirm you've performed a hard reset.
The only other thing to attempt is to load your stock ROM onto the root of your storage card and try to reflash that way.
Lucky for me, I finally had the great idea of taking out my storage card and then the disk drive option isn't given anymore. Thanks for helping such a dork like me out!!!

Ofcourse! That was a great idea.
It certainly makes sense but I never thought of it.
That's good to know for future reference. Thanks!
Mine did this once to me after I put in a new game. I removed the stylus pen which caused the screen to light up long enough to use the touch features. I was working on a doc file and REALLY needed to save it.. a soft reset and haven't had the issue since. Figured it was just a fluke so never mentioned it before now.
