SMS Message "Lag"? :/ - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Ive not tried searching for this problem, seems abit of an awkward thing to search so please dont shoot me
I've noticed for awhile now some times when im typing a text msg it'll work fine..... then it suddenly misses letters/key presses etc so my text message ends up
"Hey mate, how re yu oing?"... esspecially on words like "Little" i end up with "Litle" etc.
But going into Word / notepad etc it types no problems & other times i can do an SMS session with no problems then it'll suddenly act up, any idea why its doing this?
Im only using the kaisers default SMS program, maybe i should be using something abit better?

search for clear type in this forum you'll find your answer.

Ahh thanks, went to disable clear type ... damn things already disabled
*scratches head in confussion*
well ive enabled it, maybe that'll help lol

I haven't had any recent issues even with clear type enabled. A while back I did but now all is fine. My device appears to act funny at times. Just recently I lost all sound for almost 3 days, which was not a rom/radio compatibility issue.

mine does weird things aswell, i use alarms alot... anyway i flashed my phone (so date was reset), my alarms werent going off, couldnt figure out why.
then relised the year was off & set the year correctly then the alarms started working, no idea what caused it to rely on the date.
now i think about it i guess "Monday 8am" would of been day differant day in 2005.... oki problem solved.
not very often that happens

Okay boys, here is the answer. There are two different functions you will have to modify. They are both under Settings>Buttons>Up Down Control.
Cleartype is only used for smoothing edges and has no affect on typing... btw.
Two different functions you will have to change are Lower the delay before first report to short, (far left) and Repeat rate to the slower side.
That helps on the lag issue you have been experiencing.
The second thing you should try is to disable predictive text.
Settings>Inputs>Word Completion
Try turning it off it helps a lot of people.
Have you flashed your rom or are you using the ATT one?
If you use the ATT one these problems will help, but the interface is still slow due to the bloatware on the phone. If you use a cooked rom the first thing should help as well as the second however, I am running a cooked rom L9 (laurentius) with no problems and I rarely miss type.
I have noticed one issue with my keyboard though that I cannot figure out and do not like, pressing the space bar and a number or letter before or after, the spacebar trumps the other buttons and many times I just see the space and no letter or number that I typed in close time proximity to the thing I was entering. Hope this helped.

Keyboard LAG

Hi Guys,
I did some research here and on google but couldn't find any good results.
I really have a serious lag in my keyboard, more likely at the repeating characters like, hello or whoohoo ... wil be like helo whoho, ...
Is there a fix or something else. When typing emails this result in a lot of frustation. I don't know how you guys think or experience this problem!
Thnx for you comments.
it's been brought up before but might be hard to search on...
Others have reported that turning off Word Completion and Auto Correct have helped.
Settings --> Input ... Word Completion tab
Give that a shot.
I have the same problem. I've turned off input completion under settings -> input -> word completion and in programs -> xT9 Settings. But when I type the letter A, Q, O, and L it tries to auto complete. Also Z is displayed as X. I installed the AT&T Keyboard fix from TaurusBullba and nothing changed. I am using Dutty_s_hybrid_Rom_Build_18533 Final on an AT&T tilt. Thanks for the help.
I've got the same issue. I've turned off Word Completion, etc. but it didn't seem to make a difference. Guess I need to slow my thumbs down...
Yes, the lag is quite annoying at times. It seems to be less of an issue when less programs are running. But I noticed the problem is not as bad since I stopped using Windows Media Player (which I would run all the time) and started using Audio Manager.
L8
With me the lag was even bigger after I had installed the HTC Touch Keyboard cab, which also xt9. After removing it got a little better (but still there's lag)...
So i guess there is no 1 solution for this keyboard lag? I'm also faced with the same problem I can finish typing my sms about 4 to 5 words faster then it can appear on the screen.
Anybody found a solution?
It might seem irrelevant but it obviously affects any consecutive keystrokes:
Start -> Settings -> Buttons -> Up/Down Control
If you put the delay to minimum, it seems to make things a lot better.
On the contrary, the "turning off autocomplete" solution didn't work for me.
Even though I think this should help you guys as well, I'm kind of pissed off that one has to use workarounds for such an expensive device to work properly. Especially when it comes to the keyboard which is among the top 5 reasons for buying it in the first place. I'm aware of the argument that this kind of thing happens with all WM devices, but still this seems close to unacceptable for me.
All the best

I totally agree, especially for a product that costs €600 or more! Nevertheless it's with all WM and HTC devices, and... has your pc never crashed or do you use a WindowsXP pc which has no tools or addons?

This appears to have fixed it for me, thank you!
This seems to have fixed it about 90% of the time. Sometimes when typing "www." it will end up ww. but that is only part of the time.
Thanks!
Mine sped up somewhat when I did the repeat rate change, but I REALLY noticed a difference when I removed the 3G dial pad and rebooted, seems everything is running faster now, but knowing my luck its a tease and it'll just go back to normal

Up/Down control setting change worked for me too. Now the only problem is I actually get 3 letters sometimes!

Maybe decrease the key repeat rate?
SWEET
the up down to a minimum seems t work for me. any suggestions as to which screen keyboard is better to use then the one in the rom my thumbs are to fat and its hard to use the keyboard when im driving. I knwo tis not safe but everyone does it. i guess it would be safer If my kaiser had bigger screen buttons for ppl with chubby fingers. LOL
thanks in advance.
juanitto
Hi Juanito,
Don't think it's your chubby fingers - we all suffer from it. I've heard people talk about the PCMKeyboard. On the last Roms i've tried, it didn't work, not sure why. I am currently running a ROM that has the Diamond keyboard, which I like too. The only thing I have to get used to is that it has two keys on each button (similar to for instance Nokia) but it is QWERTY (see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2199341&postcount=15)...
Regards,
Nika.
I do also have the same problems with the whole touchscrenn input.
after some time working around, somehow all inputs have a delay. so for example when I am trying to close a program, the X (to close Prg) animates to be pushed half a second after I clicked on it...
or when I am trying to switch between tabs, it seems as the cpu is hanging somewhere around 100% and you have to repeat your input more times or try to push harder on the screen etc... until the inputs has been accepted.
is that a known issue? its very annoying...
only thing that helps is to softreset the device... but after some minutes the effect starts again...
to dr-house: your problem might be related to the 'htc task manager', especially versions 2 and higher. Disable it's auto start-up and see if you see any improvements.
how do u disable the taskmanger on startup and do the 3G txt thing??

The double letter issue - How many have this?

I've been having an issue with my Kaiser keyboard. When typing the same letter fast, not all the keystrokes are registered. For example, instead of "www.google.com" the phone often registers "ww.gogle.com", instead of "hello" it might register "helo", etc.
For whoever hasn't noticed such a problem, try the following, since it is particularly evident when you do this:
Type "WWW" or "AAA" really fast without using the Caps lock but keeping the Shift key pressed instead. Are all the keystrokes registered?
The following helps a bit but does not eliminate the problem:
Start -> Settings -> Buttons -> Up/Down Control
If you put the delay to minimum, it seems to make things better.
How many people have this issue? I've read people's posts complaining about this, but not a lot and I'm trying to figure out: Could this be a hardware issue? Should I ask for a replacement?
I have the problem, but I always associated it with more of a problem with the phone "thinking" (background app running, etc) and the background app making it skip. I will try the suggestion about Up/Down control and see if that helps and report back.
I am actually having the opposite problem.
Often i get double letters where I only pressed the key once ....
I have this problem, but I was just assuming it was user error (retardation?)
i definitely get it too, all the time... and i type well, dammit
I have that issue quite a bit. I actually exchanged phones because the 1st one the keys wouldn't click when pressed so I had MMMMMM and aaaaa qqqqqqqq all the time. the new one has the issues, but the keys seem to click and its not as bad.

I had the same issue as randomtask with my first tilt. Several of the keys didn't click when I pressed them so my finger automatically would hit them multiple times. My replacement is much better for that problem, but now I do get the occasional gogle. It has gotten better them more I have gotten used to the keyboard though.
I used to have this problem first got the phone-- maybe the first couple of weeks of use. I haven't noticed it in a long time though and just checked and it's definately not there anymore. I have the tilt and did flash the ROM and don't recall having had the problem since then but don't remember if it stopped happening before or after I flashed it.
It was really annoying. I'm glad it's gone.
I have a similar issue, but it's much more annoying IMO.
When I type fast, the spaces between words becomes really funky. If I hit the spacebar and then another character right after it, the character shows up on the screen before the space. It ends up looking like: Thisi s howa textm essagee nds upl ookingo nm yp hone.
There is definitely a problem with the phone reading input (and not my fingers). I sat there and pressed the same key and space in rapid succession for a few minutes trying to figure out the behavior. It seems like rapid input of space followed by character results in the output of the character followed by the space.
I was able to solve this issue by disabling the Suggest Words and Autocorrect options under the Input tab in settings.
I then typed a text message as fast as my fingers would allow and my Tilt did not miss any letters.
keyboard sensitivity?
I have a very strange issue with my keyboard. if i place my thumb over the P key and then hit the S key, i get a SP when i am trying to type a text message. There is also the same issue with the I and O keys and the X and Delete keys. It took me a couple of days to realize what exactly was going on but (unfortunately) i can reproduce the issue very easily. Is the keyboard supposed to be this sensitive or do you think i have a defective keyboard? I currently plan on replacing it but if i dont have to, i would rather not. I never had an issue like this on my 8125.
Thanks!

Doesn't really help. Using Dutty's Hybrid No 2 ROM produces the same results. Type a word and have the cursor at the last character of the word. Press space and a character in that order in rapid succession and you should be able to reproduce the outcome as easily as I can.
You have to go to the buttons option in settings. If you speed up the repeat speeds it WILL fix this issue. You have to play with it though because if you max it out it will end typing more repeat letters than you intended.

Tried this too. Same symptoms still exist. When you say speed up the repeat rate, are you talking about making the top bar go all the way to the left, and the bottom bar all the way to the right? I did this (though not putting them at the MAX, like two or three notches down).

I'm with klasikahl on this: it does make things better but it does not make the problem disappear
Alaiwy, you will want to try the following, if you think that the problem is gone:
Type "WWW" or "AAA" fast without using the Caps lock but keeping the Shift key pressed instead. I'll bet you'll notice the problem again.
I'm really dying to know if this is a general issue or it's just some devices that were produced...
I am now beginning to think that this is a ROM-specific issue.
I flashed Sleuth's 1.1 ROM and to my joy, my space-character rearrangement problem has completely vanished. For the record, I was previously using Dutty's No 2.

Same here...the problem that I was having was if I were to type "this is a test" I exprienced delays with my spacebar...it would spell out
"thisi sa t est". and it would do it EVERY single time. I uninstalled HTC Touch keyboard and keypad and it stopped. (Looks like TouchPal for me). However, on Dutty's Beta 1 I didn't experience this problem, but other WM6.1 roms I did. Of course with Dutty's I had to jump through hoops to get the keyboard and Touch Keypad to work cooperatively and maybe this "fixed" it...who knows. BTW I have the Tilt version of the Kaiser.

I haave had both problems but this one was more annoying. I had the space after the next letter problem mentioned above with Dutty's WM6.1 Beta. At first I thought I couldn't type, but once I uninstalled the xt9 cab that also fixed the Tilt's keyboard issue, this problem went away as well. The speed of the text all around seems faster now.
As far as the repeat letters issue, I have that as well, and haven't been able to get rid of it with any of the ROMs that I have tried.
I have the problem with the second letter of a double letter pair being occaisonally omitted. I have put the repeat rate at the highest setting and turned off autocomplete, etc., and still have the problem.
I have pondered this problem, and have a possible theory:
The hermes only had one switch under the space bar, but the kaiser has two. If you push one end of it and rock your finger you'll hear two clicks. About half the time I hit the space bar only one switch clicks, and the other half they both click. So clearly HTC must've compensated for this by putting something in the software that says if there are two spacebar entries within a certain (small) timeframe, ignore one of them.
Perhaps they did this and instead of making it spacebar specific, it applies to any character?
Just an idea...
I can't believe that HTC can ship what they call a high-end smartphone where a feature as basic as the keyboard working correctly isn't spotted during testing! Seriously considering sending my xda stellar back!

tilt keyboard problem

When i m typing on the keyboard sometimes when i hit the space bar and then a letter after it the letter goes first then the space. it happens many times and im wondering if theres a way to fix this. its like the space lags. im using dutty wm6.1
DISABLE XT9!
seriously...learn to search before posting...this has been covered a billion times
Sorry to re-birth this thread but the thing is, that's not the entire solution to this problem. I have this problem as well, and searched around for a while before finding anything useful. I have had XT9 disabled since day 1, and have had the same problem. Example...If I want to type...
Hello world, how is the weather today? Sometimes it would come out as...
Helo wrld, how i the wethr toay?
Pretty annoying. Even my g/f noticed it on my phone (at first I thought it was me being lazy, but I was wrong).
A solution that seemed to drastically improve this was changing the word completion settings. I now have suggestion after enter 3 letters (rather than a space), and suggest 2 words. I would recommend doing this (Start, Settings, Input, Word Completion). I would also recommend changing the delay before first repeat rate, and even the repeat rate a bit. Move the delay before first repeat rate all the way down to the shortest. (Start, Settings, Buttons, Up/Down Control).

i also have this problem, only way i can get it to type right is if i just text SLOW and press every button slow and firm.
I'm pretty sure that this is just one of the negative things with the Kaiser. There has been plenty of complaints about the slide-out QWERTY buttons not being built very well. I noticed this immediately since my last phone was a Hermes, and the keyboard on my Hermes was ultra-awesome compared to my Kaiser's keyboard.
did you diable cleartype?
do a search on that i have had similar problems but disabling cleartype and keeping the inbox clean helps.......
This problem actually popped up for me a few weeks ago after I installed the HTC software keyboard. When I uninstalled the software keyboard, my spaces went back to normal. I then tried installing the PocketCM Keyboard, and the same thing happened. As soon as I uninstalled it, the problem went away. This could be limited to me. I know that everyone can't be having the same problem with these software keyboards or no one would be using them.
I did also adjust the T9 settings so that it only suggested words after 5 letters (I only use it for long words anyway). This did cut down on typing delay, but didn't fix the problem with the spaces ending up after the first letter of the next word.
I'm running the L26 Diamond V9 ROM, with the default Tilt radio.

Finally got rid of the stupid SOD

Hey Guys,
Doing a gazillion of trials to get rid of the SOD, i have finally found something that is working for me now for over than 2 weeks without a single hickup,, i used to get SODs 3 times a day or maybe more
Anyway to cut it short,, i just disabled the "Automatically adjust backlight" setting in the sounds and display menu.
i was really starting to hate my TP2 but not anymore
I dunno if the solution will work with anyone else but for me that did the trick and i just thought of sharing that.
Congrats on your success. Unfortunately, though, the SOD appears to be caused by many different factors for many different people. Your fix may work for some but not for others. The backlight had zero bearing when fixing my SOD issues. Good luck to anyone else though!

You may be on to something here. I agree with Scooter that it may not work for all people, but I have read about these things constantly over the past few months, and I have NEVER had a SOD, but then again, I've NEVER left my "Automatically adjust back-light" box checked either. I always get in there after a new flash and uncheck it the first time it dims down and way sooner and darker than I want it to. Anyway, I hope this is the answer for many people.

Question My phone randomly talks something about the time

My phone randomly talks something about the time, I'm not getting what she saying (woman voice).
Talkback option is off, I checked that one.
What is this, this is so annoying and creepy.
This is not the first bug, since I bought this phone.
Anyone can help me?
Something put into clock settings?
I found this similar problem, I have exactly the same:
"A couple days ago I started hearing a womans voice at random times, like I had butt dialed someone, but I could Identify where it was coming from. Then while I was scrolling on my phone I hear something something "time". Finally in the middle of the night when everything else was quiet I hear it clear as a bell. A robotic female voice saying "it is time". No notification. No background apps running. I've done a few things to check those things and can't find anything. It is slightly annoying. But more so, creepy AF. Any help would be appreciated."
It's Big Brother sending you subliminal messages
Don't see what it could be other than a notification related thing...something you already forgot that you enabled. There are SO many settings, I doubt I could bring my phone to the same exact config after a factory default.
Try using the notification history feature to track this ghost down.
This sounds like an accessibility setting turned on to me

Ah, yes. That must be it. Good thinking.
I'm betting that you will find the culprit in Bixby Routines. It's under Advanced features.
your question is your phone talks about time, for that u will have to search on google ..
I tried everything, but couldn't helped. I did a factory reset. I always hate to do that, because It takes to much time to put back everything and set up, but at least it helped.
Thanks to everyone.
