Sending emails with attachments from Outlook Mobile - HTC Wings

Hi
We have several HTC phones with Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 that have the same problem. Problem is that when they try to send an email with no attachment it sends fine using GRPS but as soon as you add an attachment of any size it tries to send the email using Wifi even when Wifi is turned off! Consequently the email doesn't send and the complete send/receive cycle fails meaning the user doesn't even get any new emails and no errors are displayed. It is very frustrating for the users as they have to constantly check the outbox to be sure send/receive is working.
For a little background, the reason i think its trying to use the Wifi connection that i checked the control logs (see below) on the device.

I have tried adding rogers/yahoo email account using imap and it sends email with attachments with no trouble.
What gives??

More info
Did a hard reset of the phone and now in the log instead of trying to connect to wifi a get a simple error
2008-07-10 17:29:32 ConnInfo Failed (0x80004005)
All the research points to their being a problem with an sync item which probably is the email with the attachment. But why??? I've tried all different types of attachments and combinations.
Also, i did get it to work 3 times right after a hard reset but subsequent tries failed.

Gmail IMAP/POP problems

I've tried the seraches, but no cigar...
A strange problem, I've set up my Gmail IMAP account, but when I try to send/receive, it gets stuck on "connecting..." (in the bottom right of the screen), then after about 2 minutes, it times out saying "Messages cannot be downloaded to your device..."
I'm able to connect via wifi flawlessly, so I'm thinking it may be a problem with my carrier (o2 uk)? I can access the internet fine, i can even go onto gmail.com and sign in from there, so I'm really confused...
My settings are as follows:
ROM: Dutty's 6.1
Radio: 1.58.16.27
WAP/GPRS settings:
o2 WAP
Cellular Line (GPRS, 3g)
payandgo.o2.co.uk
I've followed the gmail IMAP setup, checking for any spelling mistakes etc. But I don't think my problem is here, cos I also had this problem when gmail was setup for POP3.
Any help would be appreciated guys/gals.
I'm in the same boat but of a different size. I'm running Dutty's WM6.1 5.2.19199 with radio 1.58.16.27. When i flashed to this rom I hard reset before and after flash and begain to set up my device as normal. When i got to the email portion and set up my gmail accounts and tried to send/receive it does not even try to connect and gives me an error synchronizing. a few seconds afterwards a cannot connect bubble pops up and tells me to change my connection settings. I ran the connection setup that came with the rom and then double checked the settings and they appear no different than before when i could sync with gmail. I can connect to the internet just fine. I have searched(and used the search feature) but have found no answers.
Disregard.
Disregard my post above. Sometimes I'm just stupid.

When I had issues with my Sending and Receiving of Email I had to take off any proxies in my 3G Connection.
I had the same error message appear after setting up Gmail IMAP, it turned out to be a spelling error! Now it's working, I can send/recieve fine. Having said that, I can't get Gmail to download any folder content, it only downloads the inbox. I mean, the folders are shown, but there's nothing ever in them. Any ideas?
Off topic slightly, when people send mail through gmail have they notice gmail produces 2 sent messages for the 1 email.
1 has your email the other is blank?

I also notice 2 email, but both are ok (none is blank).
do you use another account using exchange server??
I have a different issue with gmail maybe someone can help me out. I have two gmail accounts set up and they send and recieve fine the only problem is that the next time is sends/recieves it deletes the previous mail that was there and only downloads new ones. Is there a way to keep all email in my inbox or does it always erase previously downloaded mail and just display new ones. I have it set up to Automatic Send/Receive every 30 minutes and to download All Messages...TIA...

I just wanted to thank you for this input. I was really getting frustrated with my first ROM Flash because I couldn't get my gmail to sync. Now its working but I now need to imap configured because it looks like its configured to POP3 automatically. Either way thanks JimmyMcGee

Activesync problem - White screen after sync

Hello
Several of us with ATT tilts and Duttys 6.1 Rom from 4/29 are experiencing similar issues with Activesync and Exchange. When replying to a message or sending a message, the device will sync and then a blank white screen comes up in Activesync. It is not hung up and you hit ok to minimize Activesync and you can get right back in. It is mostly a problem becuase it will send the message multiple times in a few seconds. Almost like the message is getting stuck in the outbox. Started happening a few weeks ago, and those of us that have rolled back to a ATT rom are not having the problem. Properly reflashing the rom/clearing storage does not resolve the issue.
Any ideas?
*Edit*
The blank page appears to be attempting to display this message I found in the \Windows\Activesync folder.
"One or more e-mail messages were not sent. Please delete the messages that are still in your Outbox and then create and send them again.Synchronized."
The messages are getting stuck in Outbox, but the reciepient is recieving the message..... hmmmm
This is not specific to the Kaiser. After lots of online searching, I've only heard of one other reported incident:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=228466
I have the same problem with my HTC Vox. After the blank white screen (with a thin black line border) times out, I'm getting this sync error message from ActiveSync:

I enabled logging for ActiveSync, but I'm not sure how to read the logs. Here's an excerpt when it fails, and another when it passes:

I'm running a cooked ROM for WM6.1, and this seems to be the pattern for people with this problem. I got the same problem using Dr. Gonzo's WM6.1 v1.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384129
... and when running Zeeshan's 96dpi v2 built on top of Dr. Gonzo's:

I'm willing to try things if anyone has ideas for me. Should this thread be moved to a more general WM6.1 location rather than the Kaiser general area?
Thanks,
Greg
We get the same thing with vanilla HTC wm6.1 rom.
our setup is Exchange 2007 published via ISA with cert authentication.
are you guys using certs rather than passwords for client authentication?
Ben.
We're using certs. I'm not the sysadmin at my company, but I believe we're using Exchange 2007. I don't know how to tell whether we're using an ISA server, but I do know that I didn't have this problem when using wm6.0 or lower. It's interesting to hear that you're seeing the problem on a vanilla ROM. So that rules out the fact that I'm using a cooked ROM. I'm going to post to an internal newsgroup at my company to see if anyone is running wm6.1 and NOT seeing this problem.
Ben, what kind of phones are you using? And in what country? I'm in the US. Do any US phone plans support HTC phones that run wm6.1?
BUMP
Our Admins just upgraded Exchange to 2007 and started getting these blank white screens on Activesync. Duplicate mails send if replying to mails from your phone. You get a plain text and an HTML version of your mail sent to the recipients MULTIPLE times, so WATCH OUT!!! My wife got 12 copies and a customer got 8.
Problem is definitely when you have BOTH WM6.1 AND Exchange 2007. WM6.0 and Exch 2007 is FINE and WM6.1 and Exch 2003 is FINE. It looks like it might have something to do with the new HTML ability from the phone, hence the plain text AND HTML formatted mails coming from the phone.
People have been discussing this on the MS forums: http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/showpost.aspx?postid=3599682&siteid=65
Thank you for pointing us to this thread. A recent post says that Microsoft is aware of the issue and expects to have a hotfix available within 2-3 weeks. Given that the thread got to the source of the problem and will track it to the end, there's no sense keeping this xda-developers thread alive.

Outlook Mail

Hello everyone.
So here's a little problem I've been having the past couple of days...
I'm using MS Outlook 2007, which I have set to retrieve my emails on hotmail through POP3 (for some issues that I've managed to fix by doing that, I hate Outlook connector ...) I've also programmed it to delete emails from server when I download them on my computer
So far, everything works great, as expected.
Now, here's the deal.
By doing that, my email account (server-based) is empty, so on my Htc, I can't set up Windows Live to retrieve emails, because there's nothing to retrieve.
The only way I can get it to have my emails on my TD, is to set an ActiveSync connection to my pc and have it sync my emails. But when I'm on the go, I don't have them...
What can I do to have them?
set outlook 07 not to delete mail from server - common sense no ?
I wish someone would say that
Yeah it is common sense... The only thing is, that it keeps it on the server, no problem for that... But it doesn't mark it as read... So it keeps poping up in outlook, so I end up having 10 times the same email...
Get rid of hotmail and use a proper service like gmail with IMAP.
Ahah I've been dreaming to do that... But since a use like every product of microsoft (Xbox 360, Zune and so on) so I have to use a Hotmail account...
Windows Mobile 6.1 Hot Fix for Sending POP and IMAP E-mail
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
Overview
This behavior is associated with a feature that was introduced in Windows Mobile 6.1. It provides a way for users to send e-mail through an alternate outbound e-mail server provided by their mobile operator in the event that the default outbound e-mail server becomes inaccessible.
The problem occurs if a mobile operator doesn't use this feature, and therefore doesn't supply a value for the alternate SMTP address. When the mobile device fails on any attempt to connect to the e-mail provider's default SMTP server, Windows Mobile 6.1 automatically loads the value for the alternate SMTP server—which in this case is blank. The e-mail account configuration details are then corrupted, which results in loss of the ability to send e-mail with that particular e-mail account.
With this fix, the feature is patched to ensure that Windows Mobile 6.1 takes appropriate action when it detects a blank value for the Alternate SMTP server.
Note: After you apply this hot fix to your mobile device, the messages that have been sitting in the Outbox folder of your affected POP and IMAP e-mail account(s) will be sent. Since these messages could be out of date, you might not want to send them now. You can keep these messages from being sent by navigating to the Outbox folder of these accounts, and then either delete them, or move them to another folder. On Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional devices, you can access account folders by tapping the folder drop-down located in the upper left portion of the message list. On Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard devices, you can access account folders by pressing the Menu soft key, and then selecting Folders.
download the cab file and store it in ur phone memory and run it.
So this will allow me to do what... ? Because clearly, I didn't understand your post...

Can receive emails but not send after setting e-mail account

Hi all,
My phone will only receive emails & will not send them via my ISP settings. I use T-mobile internet & my landline ISP is TalkTalk. I have used the e-mail setup on my phone (Tytn11 Wm6.1) with my ISP's info (POP & smtp settings) & I can receive emails OK but can't send them - I get a message saying 'THE MESSAGE COULD NOT BE SENT. CHECK THAT YOU HAVE NETWORK COVERAGE AND THAT YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION IS CORRECT. THEN TRY SENDING AGAIN. Now I have spoken to both T-mobile & TalkTalk, both have said all the settings are correct (which they are as I can receive emails OK). So why can I receive emails but not send them?
Many thanx in advance
Tynt11 wm 6.1 pro
Most likley your settings are not correct for your out going mail server
Usualy these things can be the case
a) You havent set for authorisation on your outgoig mail server
b) sometimes out going mail hosts use different ports to the standard 110 therefore would have to be updated in ur Windows Mobile
c) your settings are just plain wrong.
Can you type to me ALL of the settings you were given and I'll take a look at them for you.
Thanks
I have the same issue with my Tilt as well. I use Cox Isp. I can get my emails, just can't send any.
old issue - same trouble
My settings are in fact correct (we'll just get this one out of the way). The same settings being used on my pc's are working just fine but not on my phone.
I can receive BUT I can't send. I get the same error as "foxes" above.
receiving is via my web based email acct "pop.xxx.com" Works fine for receiving emails.
While I'm on my own home network (lan) I can recieve but I can't send via the phone (but I can on any of the pc's) and the outgoing settings are the same as the pc's "smtp.comcast.net". Yeah, I'm on comcast. Why won't my phone send like the pc's with the same setings? Any Ideas.
Another question I realize is whenever I'm tailgating on any other lan (free wifi access) this setting clearly shouldn't work. Should I then use "smtp.xxx.com" (my own companies web server)? This setting doesn't work while I'm at home even on the pc's it won't work. A
Any ideas on setting this up more universally??
Also, I've tried the port setting idea example "smtp.xxx.com:587". My server requires this port for outgoing. Again this works fine on my pc's but fails on the phone
THX to anyone with any ideas
JG
What port are you using on smtp?
Have you tried either 485 or 465? I read that comcast changed the port in Denver to 485:
http://www.consideritfixed.com/2008/02/ipod-touch-emai.html
Maybe it might work for your location.
Try these settings on Tmo should work on your Tilt too:
http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/555041-1.html
change the port to 25 if you are tying to use Tmobile web service.
my pc is setup with
incomming = "pop.XXX.com"
outgoing = "smtp.XXX.com" using port "587"
works great never a problem.
Now, on the same LAN using my tilt with exact same email acct info & pswd and settings
incomming = "pop.XXX.com"
outgoing = "smtp.XXX.com:587"
receives great
send = fails always. The ":587" is the only way I've been told to send using port "587" (or any other port than 25). If there's another way then maybe that's the answer. However, even using "smtp.comcast.net" with no port designation (default 25) wouldn't work even though it would with the pc's and same settings. This is strictly phone issue and frustrating.
I'm using wm6.1 (original). This is strictly via WIFI. The pc's will send just fine but the phone with exact same settings - FAIL.
This is my dilema. Why won't the phone send while using the exact same settings as any PC in my LAN (all send fine).
Again, thanks for the input, but I'm still searching for the answer. Certainly others have had this issue.
T-mobile internet and email
you need to log into t-mobile.com find "my email," select "add account," put in your email info. it will give you some server and username info. replace the outgoing (smtp) server and username info with what t-mo.com gives you. leave the password alone. send a test email. half the time this issue is due to the server setup on the provider side.

p.s. it doesn't hurt to work for tmobile's unsupported handset department

I know that my ISP does not allow to send via their SMTP server while being off of their network. So I have to use at&t's SMTP server.
looks like this is the smtp that you can use.

You'll probably find that patch alone will fix it if the problem is sending email worked initially but then after short while, for no apparent reason it stopped working. It looks like an issue that's been in the xda-dev forums before and I recall this solution doing the trick with others. If installing the patch, soft resetting and testing again doesn't fix it, by all means attempt reconfiguring but it's easier to install the patch first.
Of course I don't need it because the WM 6.0 ROM I use doesn't have this problem only the newly WM 6.1 'upgraded' phones so there's yet another advantage of sticking with WM 6.0

HELP: Pop3 messages disappearing

Hello,
I’ve been using the phone for few days now and I’m having some problems with my e-mail. I have configured three e-mails accounts, 1 Gmail and two pop 3 mails.
The deal is that whenever I use the e-mail app I can check new e-mails, but I can’t see the old messages (the one I read before). Also, alter seeing the messages in the SGS the messages disappear from the phone AND from my e-mail server. I already checked the configuration and I have selected “Never” in the “Delete e-mail from the server” in the “Incoming server settings” of both accounts but it looks like as soon as the e-mail apps access my account it actually deletes the message from the server.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
Thanks
Do they disappear immediately?
Are you sure you don't check them elsewhere (standalone computer) where they ARE removed from the server?
Don't have that issue here, only once I check them on my home computer they are removed from the server and my phone.
I'm sure. I was traveling, and the only way to chck my e-mail was using the phone. When I got home I tried to download the messages in the outlook and no messages were downloaded. Than I tried to acess the messages using webmail and again I couldn't fine the messages. They just disappeared.
Tried again with the same results. I read the messages on the SGS and 10 seconds later the message disappears from the phone and from the server (I tried to read the messages using a Webmail page and there is no message in the inbox).
Looks like a Bug, but it's strange that I'm the only one that is experiencing this issue. I recall that I had a similar issue with my Archos, but I thought it was a problem with Android 1.6. It may be a issue with my e-mail account but it is just a simple pop 3 account. I see no reason why it would behave like that.
pop3 email vanishes
I am having the same type problem with my samsung vibrant.I set up a pop3 account using my cable account. I can send and receive mail but my mail vanishes from the inbox. It does stay on the server luckily. Nobody at tmobil or samsung has a solution except to use k9 but it happens on it also/ So they blame isp which makes no sense since it arrives. Very frustrating
