Hi All
Spent awhile searching the forums (and the web) but couldn't find any relevant answers -- so here goes & apologies if it has been up before...
My TyTN2 got rain on the screen a few days ago (about 15-20 drops) and since then the touch part of the screen no longer works. The phone itself works perfectly, the screen displays everything as it should, but no touch.
Could a few raindrops do this?
I have a Hermes/TyTN 'lying around', anyone know if the screens are the same/compatible, was about to start searching for part numbers etc. but thought I'd ask the question anyway.
Any help, answers, pointers or links would be appreciated.
TIA
You could always buy a new touch screen.
I saw one at dealextreme.com for 4.99 , probably not the best quality but you can always give it a try for that price
sku.14919
cnn.cn also has the part , but only in combo with the actual lcd screen.
Thanks RacerII -- will check it out..
Had a similar issue with the touch screen dying after an os crash the other night n thought it was dead. Did a hard reset and reflashed and everything worked just fine. Try the hard reset and reflash first before you think about any repair options
@kaalgoosy
Thanks for the reply -- did a hard reset as you suggested, no change -- about to try a reflash -- currently using L26's B1 ROM, have dl'd B4 and will give that a whirl -- only problem seems to be I have to bypass the Welcome/Screen Alignment section (no touchscreen!) and Activesync seems to be lacking/missing/not working -- so can only try the SD method -- just reading up on that now
ROM update made no difference (wasn't holding my breath anyway...)
Looks like a screen replacement, after looking at the potential difficulties separating the digitiser from the LCD, decided a straight LCD replacement is my best option -- have found a place that will supply it (London UK) for £30 + p&p -- anyone know of a better (read cheaper) supplier?
Intending to use Mike Channon's guide to replace it myself...
no few drops of rain wont cause that damage...
most new PDAs and new gadgets in general including cams, portable ps... etc has a elements of water resistant+shock resistant and even an anti-magnetic field absorbtion (or something like) to reduce interference with other devices...

there must be another reason cuz first sign of water damage will be blurry display..

get your phone inspected by a professional technician especially if under warranty (dont tell them it was affected by rain drops.. they wont know) it might not be a very fair thing to say but again who said life is fair

Have you got a web address for the London supplier? I think my screen may be on the way out.
Good luck with the replacement.
@jahrami -- was using the Kaiser's camera to take some photos for my daughter, it started raining while I was taking the last couple. 15-20 drops or so (as I said). Dabbed this off with kitchen roll, put the phone away. Got home a little later, tried to use the phone, no touch -- played around, soft reset etc etc, but nothing.
The rain is the only thing that has happened to it -- the display is perfect, phone itself works perfectly, have hard-reset, reflashed ROM, still no touch control... and while in theory I agree with you that a few drops of rain _shouldn't_ cause this sort of damage, it seems it has. Checked the water damage strip behind the battery, it's white, assume this goes pink/blue or WHY when exposed to real amounts of water.
Sadly, warranty is out (by 1 month) & the local phone shops want £40 to strip it and look... £32 for a screen? I'll do it myself -- if it doesn't fix it, back to the Eten M700...
@ach2 -- tried to put a complete & direct link to the item, message box wouldn't accept it (very long url). This company sells on ebay too, slightly cheaper (27.99 +p&p) and under various other site names, feedback is positive and screens are new. Can't comment on the company personally, unless you wait for a week. Thanks for the good wishes, will probably need them.
http://www.sparepartsformobiles.com search for Kaiser LCD replacement.
OP:
Before you buy anything for 27 quid: Note that there are 2 elements to that screen, as was mentioned (but maybe not quite clear) in post 2. There is the actual screen, which is a liquid crystal screen with thin film transistors with a glass plate on top, but on top of that is a digitizer. The digitizer is literally 2 sheets of slightly conductive plastic put together to assess where the stylus (or your finger) is currently touching it.
The digitizer shouldn't cost you more than about 5-10 quid. The full screen is going to cost you about 30 quid. You definitely don't need a new screen.
I've replaced 2 digitizers and 1 full screen on my HTC magician (I'm very good at smashing it into things) and after I broke it again, I bought a used HTC tilt cause I felt that an upgrade was in order. I ordered the digitizers for the magician and the screens from a generic eBay store in Hong Kong, it arrived the US (Boston) after about 2 weeks, I would expect Old Blighty to be similar.
Greetings from "New" England.

One more suggestion for you: have you considered using a virtual mouse cursor program? Maybe VirtuaMouse One-Hand?
Of course it won't actually "fix" your screen, but at least you'll be able to tap around your PPC until you fix the touch panel itself.
i will agree with such a temporarily fix, use a combination of virtual mouse
and voice commander and hotkeys shortcuts to navigate through your phone
look for second hand screen, there must be some around dude

@incdoc -- Greetings to you too, cousin -- yes I do realise the screen has a separate digitiser (see quote above from earlier post), and in fact, the same supplier has digitisers for £8 but after reading about the difficulties of separating the digitiser from the LCD thought I would save time, effort and money by replacing the LCD in its entirety. I can always play with the older one afterwards, and if I successfully split them will get a touch screen and keep the thing as a spare, which seems like a good idea, as there are now several more posts regarding the same or similar issues to mine, just within the last few days.
Are you suggesting that separation _isn't_ difficult?
@EGMine -- have to say that I haven't heard of VirtuaMouse One-Hand, will look it up -- thanks for the suggestion.
Jahrami -- thanks for the suggestion, about to check VirtuaMouse and completely forgot about Voice Commander, just changed my ROM to L26's B4, (after fault developed) so haven't set the phone up, yet -- but definitely will set up some voice tags.
Big thank you (for telling me something I should have thought of myself -- age really is a bummer!)
Edit** Dl'd trial of VirtuaMouse, good idea -- hard work! Combination of Voice Tags and scroll wheel much better. Eten M700 back in cupboard. ;-))
Dammit, dammit and dammit!
In the interest of rounding things off -- thought I'd post this to (almost) end my (little) epic.
Bought a replacement screen from the source listed above, £32, web price was lower with free shipping, but phoned the order through to get a quicker delivery. Arrived the next day, exactly as ordered. (Bravo!) No tools included, but I have some anyway.
Used Mike Channons guide to replacement (no mention of the sticky keyboard hinge 'finisher' anywhere BTW), all went as planned. Total time to replace about 1hr 15mins. (Not rushing)
Screen kicked in, onto alignment and yippee! -- touch working again!
Knew I shouldn't have had that celebratory cup of tea! -- put SIM in, followed by SD card, phone no longer recognises the SIM. Bu**er!
Stripped the phone again (impressed myself, took less than 10 minutes), checked to see if the SIM ribbon had popped off -- seemed ok, but popped it and reseated it anyway. Reassembled the phone, popped in the SIM -- Bu**er again.
Stripped the phone again (4 minutes -- not bad eh?), checked the SIM connection to the keypad PCB and 2 of the contacts in the socket look slightly mangled.
At this point now I'm wishing I'd gone for the £70 repair option, it's 20 to 1 in the morning (12:40 am to you), the eyes are a little fuzzy and I (once again) have a TyTNII 'kit' in front of me.
Oh well, there's always tomorrow -- now where did I put my Eten M700?
EDIT** Forgot to add a request, if anyone has a TyTNII in bits and wants to sell the keypad PCB, leave info or PM. Thanks.
EDIT 2** Oh well, seems like I _have_ kiboshed the SIM socket on the keypad PCB -- so hoping someone has one (keypad PCB or TyTNII) lying around will sell for bits?
Hi, everytime i turn on my diamond, it just shows white noise. Does that mean it's bricked ? Sometimes i might get lucky and it'll run normally but then restart itself and show noise again. I tried entering bootloader and reflashing spl and ROM, and it all goes well but it never flashes on. It'll get stuck at 0% and on the computer, it'll say that there was an error. I need to reflash the original spl and rom before i send it in so the warranty doesn't get voided.
Hi, I have had a major problem with my diamond for the last 2 months now...
Basically, my problem has the same symptoms as your phone, (I.E. the screen may freeze on bootup, showing a snowy effect), as well as freezing consistently for no apparent reason....
Anyway, the problem that I am having is heat related...
(I know, I know... Please read on for more information)...
When I say heat related, I dont mean that my Diamond is too hot to hold...
My Diamond only works when the ambient temperature is around 10*C or below 15*C...
Any temperature above that (room temperature), and the phone will work for a minute or so.....
HTC Support in Australia has acknowledged that there is a problem with the phone, and have told me that the phone was shipped from Turkey, and that I should contact them for warranty service...
However HTC Turkey have been close to useless when replying to my problem.
I suggest you check to see if the symptoms are the same as mine, and if so, get on to the HTC Customer Dont Care hotline for your country, and see if they are a little bit more helpful when it comes to this problem, than HTC Turkey have been with me !
(2 months and still waiting for an address to send my HTC Diamond for warranty repair)....
For those of you wondering what symptoms, and what I have tried to fix the problem... Read On.....
To flash your phone to its original ROM, try cooling the phone down (Place it in the fridge for 10 minutes or so, then attempt to reflash)....
It took me 15 attempts before I got it to flash 100% (The thing would warm up, then crash)...
Please note : reflashing the ROM did nothing to fix my phone.
---------------
Here is one of the emails that I sent to HTC Australia Support (HTC Australia was very very helpful, and I sincerely thank them for trying to help me out)...
Hi Amr, (HTC Australia)
Thankyou for your advice in regards to the HTC Diamond Phone.
Ill try and describe the symptoms a bit better so as you may have more of an idea about the problem that I am experiencing.
At the moment, if I do a memory clear, at room temperature, (25*C) the phone will display the following
1) The Touch Diamond Boot Screen
Roughly 30 seconds later....
2) The Green Windows Mobile Preparing your device for first use. Screen
This screen will be displayed for about 45 seconds... At this point the device will do either of the following
a) It will reset, vibrate, and then show the Touch Diamond Boot Screen Again, though sometimes the screen is garbled (Has lines and/or a snow effect through it)
or
b) The device will hang, typically with the screen being garbled much like above.
When the device hangs, all the buttons (Except the reset button) no longer function.
Resetting the device using the reset button will reboot the device fine, but at this point it will always hang when the boot screen is displayed.
Removing the battery, waiting for say 30 seconds, then replacing the battery and trying again results in the device still hanging at the boot screen.
At this point, the temperature is not hot... I would honestly say the temperature is only 5*C more than room temperature.
Before I had this problem, the phone would get much hotter than this, but It never got to a temperature that I would call extremely hot....
The only reason why I "Think" it might be temperature related is that If I leave the device to cool down to room temperature, then I can repeat the steps above,
without the phone hanging at the boot screen...
Also, If I have the phone next to a fan, with the back off, I can usually get the phone to boot up, and I can calibrate the touch screen,
and the phone will proceed to customise itself.
To be honest though, it doesnt usually complete this last step successfully, and will hang during this proccess....
I havent been able to get the phone to the point where the phone has displayed the touchflo interface for over a week now, however the windows OS functions ok until the device hangs.
This is what I have tried so far...
A Clear Memory, as well as a clear memory and format using the Start->Settings->System-> Clear Software Function...
I have also tried to clear Memory, and Format moviNAND using the Volume Down, Enter, Reset - then Volume Down Method
Using these methods, the phone will clear its memory successfully, it will then reboot, and depending on how long the phone has been on for,
it may, or may not progress past the Touch Diamond Boot Screen...
Because I cannot get the phone to reliably boot up, I cannot establish an Active-sync connection, So I have not been able to try the ROM Upgrade Yet.
If the phone is faulty due to user negligence (I.E. There is something I am doing wrong software wise), then I will be more than happy to pay to get the problem rectified,
however, I can honestly say that I am stumped as to what could be causing this problem, let alone how to fix it....
The phone is in immaculate condition, is only 2 months, 2 weeks old now, has always been protected by a leather pouch, and also has a screen protector on it.
Understandably, the phone has been babied since I bought it new, and I am somewhat stressed at the prospect of it failing so early in its life cycle.
The Phones Serial Number is HT82GN55656
The phone was bought from a company in Hong Kong.
I contacted the company that sold me the phone and they had this to say
As the items were originally distributed abroad, therefore it does not come with the Australian warranty. However, sometimes the local service centre may still provide official warranty service if you provide them with our company invoice. In cases where, the local service center refuses to warranty the item, you may send the item back to the overseas supplier for a warranty service (12 months).
To be honest, this company has been less than helpful with any inquiries in regards to warranty.
If you could let me know how I should / could proceed with getting the phone repaired under warranty, I would greatly appreciate it !
Thank you again for your help in this matter
Kind Regards
Matti Jones
As I pointed out before, I stuck the phone in a fridge (Powered Down, no battery) for 15 minutes, which chilled the phone well below room temperature...
I then flashed the phone successfully with the latest Official HTC ROM.
(The flash process would take awhile around the 13% mark, but would progress smoothly after this point)...
I then chilled the phone again, and was able to calibrate the screen, and the phone was able to do its customization stuff that it does after the initial calibration and setup...
Finally, I chilled the phone again, and was able to boot it up into the touch flo interface, and open programs (However I couldnt test the phone function, because of the amount of time required to SIM unlock, and power up the phone functions).....
----------------------------------------
Honestly, I am not impressed....
HTC Australia didnt confirm it, but it sounds like a few of these phone have this fault, but they cannot trace it back to a root cause.
The phone worked brilliantly for the first 2 months that I had it.
It just got worse and worse over a period of 2 days, to the point where I cannot use it unless I place it in a fridge for 15 minutes to power it up
i didn't know anybody else had the same exact symptoms. Everything you just stated matches exactly what has been going on with my phone. However, I have already sent it in to the Taiwan company from which i bought the phone. And i did not reflash the spl or ROM, so there is a very very very very near 100% chance that they will void the warranty...unless my dad can smooth talk them out of that =]. But as soon as i get any sort of news back, i will let you know. Perhaps because it isn't a software issue, it might not void the hardware part of the warranty (unless they're assholes).
Same Problem
Same problem with my diamond, I have sent it to Service center, and its 50 days now I have not got my phone back. They have not even done anything, they are waiting for some part to be replaced, which was not available there.
Lets hope it comes back with everything working fine.
Total 3 problems with my HTC touch diamond -
1. Freezing, finally not booting
2. Wifi did not work, this problem started with in a week I got my mobile\
3. Sound problem, when I am talking on phone, other person gets very little voice there.
It seems HTC is using cheap h/w parts, I don't think next time ever I am going to buy any mobile from HTC. Two mobiles I purchase from HTC, both of them were very bad in hardware quality.
Pissed at HTC Now
You think that's Bad !!!!!!
70 Days so far just trying to get HTC to tell me where the F*** I should send my phone for warranty repairs !!!!!!
Contact Warranty Service in Australia, they tell me to send it to the place of purchase (Hong Kong)...
I contact the place of purchase, and they tell me to go through HTC global warranty.....
Ok... I think to myself....
I contact Australia Tech Support (The ONLY helpful person I have spoken to from HTC), and exchange 10 or so emails, to discover that I must contact HTC Turkey for my warranty issue....
Deep breath from me now.....
I contact HTC Turkey, they reply asking for the Serial Number and symptoms.
I send them a copy of the 10 or so emails with HTC Australia, and receive no reply !
I send a couple of emails to the helpful HTC Australian tech support guy, politely asking if the issue could be escalated to upper management....
I get a reply saying HTC was trying to contact me on my mobile number (Yep, the mobile number which is my FAULTY Diamond Phone)...
Another week passes, and finally I start cracking the SH!TS with the helpful HTC Aus Guy...
Same Day, I get an email from HTC Global Warranty....
The Message, I must contact HTC Turkey for Warranty Repairs....
For [email protected]#$s sake.... Is HTC Global Warranty Service run by a bunch of [email protected]#$%wits ????????
So now I'm on Week 7 trying to contact HTC Turkey (Looks like another long winded, pointless and mind numbing international phone call again !)
I would be so p!$$ed but the phone only worked for 5 weeks before crapping out...
Short of going on a murderous rampage at HTC in Turkey, I have NFI what I should do next !!!!!!!!
HTC, if you are reading this, You can shove this Diamond up your @$$ !!!
Chill
Yep you are having a bad service.
If you can't use your phone that means it's not fit for the purpose for which it's been sold Do you have the equivalent of what we get in the UK your statutory consumer rights?
Consumer complaints comission or something similar?

I have a Touch Pro and fortunately I have had no such issues regarding the low temperatures you need to get it to boot up. Where did you actually purchase your phone? Did you get it through Vodafone or did you purchase it through a website or through overseas travel and as such not associated with Vodafone? I steer away from the latter as there is always the possibility of having to ship a phone overseas for warranty purposes. I had a TyTn II before this and when the touch screen failed and even (and this problem is not normally covered in warranty) the chrome interface peeling off I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC. I contacted them straight away though mentioning that I am a user of mobile phones for over 20 years and that I am very influential to many people including businesses who are looking for reliable good phones for which I would recommend them to purchase. This is all true and I must admit HTC were very efficient in getting the work required done as a top priority at the HTC repair centre PHONETEC in Nunawading, Victoria. That is where the work gets done to Australian spec HTC Phones which include Diamond and Pro.
I am sorry you aren't getting the results you are wanting but unfortunately there are differences in a few areas between phones shipped to Australia and phones shipped to other overseas markets and one reason I would expect this is because of the different climates ( some much colder than here in Aus) and I can see that there would be issues if you bought a phone that would normally be destined for a colder climate than one for Australia where temperatures can reach well into the 40's in some places including Melbourne (don't hear to much about 40's in Sydney haha Just had to include some weather interstate rivalry).
Anyway I wish you all the best getting it fixed. If you did not purchase through Vodafone or any of the other Australian telco providers I would hope that next time you would because their phones are fixed here when any problems occur and lets face it most things with technology in it do at some time and these phones being pocket PC's are more likely to have issues than a standard phone due to the complexity of our devices compared to your standard phones.
John
P.S if you want quick action another thing that doesnt hurt is to get threatening with the old consumer affairs drivel and media drivel if a satisfactory response is not recieved within 10 business days.
HTC is not to blame!
Ok, here´s the wise-a*# answer:
Now why did you buy your phone outside from the country you live in?
I quess because it was cheaper. You basically bought the pda on the grey market which is disliked by the manufacturer due to different reasaons. E.g. the differente warranties that have to be given according to the different laws of different countries. Sometimes the hardware and/or software packages differs from country to country. Also the wages for the support center employees differ, taxes differ and the rent for buildings or shop space differ between different countries. Those costs are included in any product sold worldwide and that´s why the pda costs less e.g. in Turkey. A global support usually only gives you advice on who the correct contact is, you can speak to.
So why should the HTC dependence in your country, which was absolutely not involved in your acquisition, do something for you? Because you tried to beat the system and save yourself some money?
The deal is to pay a bit more in a local store and get a fast and proper support or to buy it via internet on the other side of the world and spare some money.
If your device fails you have to return it to the destination, the device was primarly delivered to,in this case by HTC to Turkey. In Turkey the mindset is a compelete different, their language, their workings speed ...
Also taking legal action in foreign countries is quite difficult.
So in this case unfortunately you have to pay for saving.
I really don´t think that htc is to blame here and its shown why many people don´t import technical gadgets by themselfes.
Still hope things will work out for you.
bye,
Thilo
HTC is HTC anywhere in the world.
The only problem with taking to your local reseller for quaranty reasons is that he can't use any other WM version after the repair , other than that of the original device. So if it is a turkish rom and your phone is defective , even if they replace the board , you will still end up with a turkish rom and a board shipped from turkey.
INTERNATIONAL WWE guaranty , means just that!!!
My Xperia is messed up....
Has NO damage... No water damage, hasnt been dropped, overheated or anything...
Last night I was going to respond to a text and slid out the keyboard and the screen went blue... okay...weird... slid it back, still blue. So I restarted it. Heard the "ding" for the power off button. Turned it off. Turned it back on. Started to respond again. Slid it out... No blue screen, just had black and white lines, then went black, but it would never come back to the regular screen.
I have NO idea what triggered this. NONE. I've had no problems with my phone whatsoever.
What I've dont to try and fix it:
-Turn it on and off (obviously, to get the screen back on)
-battery pull
-sim pull
-hard reset
I bought the phone off of EBay. Has no warranty. I got a warranty with Squaretrade for my fiance's cell phone and when he needed to make a claim (it would power off when it was clammed shut...no damage to it. Also you couldnt hear out of the phone at all)) they said they couldnt do anything. I decided that was worthless and that I'm not going to get a warranty with them. Smart move not getting one period, but Ive had bad expierences with them anyways...
What else can I do? I'm @ a total loss... I don't know what else I can do since I've dont the hard reset. I'm trying to avoid taking it to a cell phone repair place b/c I have a hard time trusing people with electronics now (long story) unless I know you.
Thanks for reading and helping if you can!!

I have this problem on one of mine also....it appears the flexribbon has gone bad...lcd is good....but when the keyboard slides out the screen goes black...tried another board and lcd in the phone problem still persists...this only leaves the ribbon as the culprit.

Yup out of the blue
same problem here wildchild is correct its the rigid flex ribbon. unfortunately it will take a month before the parts arrive since its not readily available at Sony Ericsson service centers...
Unfortunately i just got this problem yesterday.
Suddenly, when i slide out the keyboard, screen fades and goes black.
When i slide it back screen is still on but black.
To bring it back i just click power button twice to put it to sleep and wake it up again. I assume this is the same problem and the ribbon cable is loose, correct ??
I was thinking of following one of the disassembly vids to try and open it and make sure the cable is connected correctly.
What do you guys think ? Give it a shot or too risky?
I am not sure if the ribbon cable is damaged and am assuming its just loose because the screen works fine without the keyboard out.
Any advice would be appreciated.
P.S - had the xperia 3 weeks now, bought it used (about 6 months) with no warranty, Its X1i running Energyrom 3.0 (05/08) build.
A month?? Man, that's a long time... geeee wiz. I asked them asn they said about 7-10 busimess days, so we will see... but I trust it'll be about a month since you said they don't have the parts. I shipped it off Friday, put insurance on it, and said a prayer. I hate my Quickfire, its my backup phone... HATE, LOATHE.... DIEEEEE lol.
Ive been searching for other phones to replace this one if i continue to have other problems... but i cant find one I like. i Love WM, the QWERTY, and touch. Felt like i was send my child off to school or something.
I was actually able to find the flex ribbons on ebay took 6 days to get them from china, bought two of them since I have 2 sitting here with the same exact issue....they were about 60 dollars a piece and are here already...will report back after I repair the phones....

I have this also, my pghone is 5 months old. Senrt it away and they didnt have parts. After 3 weeks Sony sent an exchange unit. Opened up the box but the exchange unit is broken! The optical pad doesnt work at all and when I make calls no one can hear me at all..
I had exactly the same problem, besides the regulary cracks
So ive send it in, and a week later ill got a new one. Even with a second battery lol.
The flex cable fixed my issue....so to confirm this is the issue....repaired mine this evening, working perfect, abit tricky to get it all apart but is doable....

I got my phone back from Sony on the 9th. They said there was a loose part. I sent it off on Aug 28, and got there on Sept 2, so it didnt take long at all like I thought it would. I was so tired of the other phone. Sad when a phone runs your life haha.
That was such a nice day...went and got fitted for contacts for the first time as well as a getting a new vision rx, came home with perfect vision and what was on my door step, my beloved X1i. I smiled sooooo big. I didnt expect it for a month! They said it should be 7-10 days at the service center though when I called them.
It was still under factory warranty, so I did'nt have to pay for the repair, but I sure would have paid if I had to... lol.
sigh having the same problem now
i used to be excited to put my treo 750 to sleep before when i changed to x1. but apparently i keep taking it out of the box again everytime i have to get my x1 repaired
i just got it back 2 weeks ago when i got fed up with the keyboard button problem.
now it seems i have to bring it back once again since the screen goes blank on me when i slide out the keyboard
hopefully they can fix it on the spot, maybe just a loose connection as compared to a broken ribbon.
was hoping to use the GPS when i go out of the country, paid and got the needed maps already. but i have only a week before i leave. hopefully itll get fixed by then
Has anyone had issues with the front {Vidcall} cam? Mine will not work, & I Have looked everywhere for any reference to this issue. I have even searched the registry for a key to activate/deactivate the cam, but it appears that they are all set to active {& the other settings appear good}. The device reccognizes that it has a 2nd cam, the program switches modes, but the cam itself will not activate. I'm assuming that the cam itself is defective. If I activate the error reporting it claims a prob with Device.exe.
I have also searched high & low for a replacement Cam; to no avail. There are plenty of daughter boards, but no cam modules.
I have been working on a bare-bones ROM, but would like my Diam to be fully functional to test every aspect of the ROM before releasing it to the community. Anyone have a Broken Diam {GSM} that they would sell me cheap? {I'm crippled & don't have much $$.}
BTW: The error exists with the factory ROM as well, so don't start blaming my ROM for this {I already thought of that one, & wish it was my mistake}
I know one of the first things that I will hear is "Send it in for warrranty"; So I'll tell you now why that probably won't work.
1} I bought this Diam 2nd hand So; No receipt
2} This is the UK version & I live in US
3} It's Hard SPL'd {Thanx Olipro -- 1.40.Olinex }
4} The LDI under the lanyard hook is activated. As well, the battery's LDI is also half-activated.
The device has never been wet! I bought it from a 45 year old business man that lives in Ocean City, MD, & I assume the humidity levels activated it. {& don't feed me the BS that this is impossible! I watched an LDI in a brand new phone change from white to red after being in a fat sweaty guy's pocket for just half an hour.}
I am going to try talking to HTC service on Monday, but don't plan to get too far with it.
[Update 09-08-09}
I called HTC yesterday. Didn't get me anywhere! The number listed @ HTC.com as the Warranty Center {866-449-8358}, connected me to the tech support team. Guy was a total waste of time. For the 30 minutes that I was on the phone, I listened to about 10-15 mins of silence. {Not on Hold, Human answered immediately} At one point I even had to ask, "Are you still there?". Either the jacka$$ was pissed for having to work a holiday, or he is just the dumbest support tech I've ever talked to. He just kept repeating; "I know how you feel. It can be frustrating..." This rolled out of his mouth at least 5 times. Most of the time he just said nothing. The only plausible suggestion that he gave the whole time was; "Try downloading & flashing to the latest ROM version". Been there, Done that, Burned the shirt.
Every tech support office should have two #s;
1st # is for 90% of the people they talk to. {i.e. "How do I... change the ringtone; setup my email; make a call; wipe my a$$?}
2nd # is for the rest of us that actually need a tech that can provide support.
He listed a couple possible solutions to try, but they were all things I'd already done. I even told him about 2 or 3 solution I tried that he didn't think of. So, after listening to him breathe for about 5 minutes, he finally tells me I should call the "Warranty Repair Ctr". What Tha Fu... ?!?!? That's who I called; according to HTC's website! So, I tell him this & he says he'll give me the right #. Well, after about 3 more minutes of silence, I ask again "Still there". He says; "Yeah, you want that number or not?" Seriously?!? Are you a F&@^ing retard?!?
I will be calling "Warranty Service" {I hope} again today. Hopefully I get someone a lil' better then that jerkoff.
I was lucky enough to be given a LG Watch R for my birthday back in february.
Since then Ive used it as stock, no modifications. Love it.
Today, Im just about to start the dishes, Go to check what time it is by pressing the button, only to notice its sticking out more than usual....
Sure enough, the button has popped out. Im lucky as its still in warranty, but Im still devastated as I have no clue how it happened.
Has anyone else have this happen to them? had a look around, seems like its only me...
Ive had a good try to get it back in, there are no screw markings so cant screw it in. wont just "click" in.
The button still works whilst its in, screen on and off, power off ect. Im just glad I didnt wash the dishes before checking
How are LG with warranty/replacements? this is my first LG product (other than my old tv, served me 7 yrs no issues, un like their watches..it seems...)
(first my tv fails its firmware update, then my windows 8 fails to recognise my hdd, then my sim card beaks :allowing everything but inbound calls to function: giving me a heart attack thinking it was something id flashed.., And now my LG watch button popps out?!?! WTF, am I cursed with tech now?!!?)
Have since spoken to LG..
They seem to be helpful so far.
If you have never made a claim against LG before, All I had to do was call, give the Serial number for my watch, the date it was purchased, a simple description of the fault.
They I have had to email them with photos showing the fault along with a given Ref. They have advised a turn around of 7 days for the repair/replacement.
I hope they can explain why/how it happened, so I can avoid any issues in the future. As I haven't found anyone else with the same issue, it doesn't seem to be regular. But for the price were paying, I like to know its going to be ok for another 2 years.

I just had this happen to me on first day.. My fault for trying to wind the button like my wife's Apple Watch. Anyway a dab of crazy glue fixed it. I bought mine used so no warranty. If you have warranty go that route first. Just enough glue for the bottom of the button to contact the cell pad. Too much and you will freeze the button.
even though all looks 100% perfect I have decided to now treat this watch like it is not i167 rated for water. Basically I will keep it out of the shower and pool.
