Amazing Orange Deal - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Dolphin 35, an 18 month contract, £35 a month for 18 months with the option of 5 months free. That brings the total cost to £455, only £55 more than the Sim free cost of the phone and you get unlimited web browsing and unlimited texts and 600 minutes.
Orange may have a poor reputation, but that deal is unbelievably good.
See here: http://www.mobiles.co.uk/orange-htc-touch-diamond.html#MobilePhoneTariffs
Edit: My mistake, there's no unlimited data with that deal. It looks like you have to buy through orange for unlimited data which comes to a total of £540, £90 quid more. Still not bad though.

The standard warning applies with the above offers and all like it. You are likely to not get that money due to obscure overcomplicated rules on redeeming the cashback, normally involving goats, virgins, and lunar eclipses.
It's been scientifically proven that people too evil to be a seal-clubber or second-hand car salesman go on to run discount phone websites.
The original deal direct from Orange is still good though. In fact, it's the one I signed up for earlier.

Or you could get all that and a free ipod or projector or whatever you want, done it with my last phone and an xbox 360 and it all worked fine.

You pay more though, the original deal i quote was £455, to get a 'free' Xbox Arcade it would cost £720. That's £265 more for a console thats worth £150 - So you're wasting £115! Hardly free ey?

i just got a upgrade
they have given me 650 cross network
unlimited landline calls
unlimited texts
"unlimited" data
18 month contract...which i don't mind.... £30
this was direct from orange....no funny middle men

Free direct from orange on £30 pm
Just bought mine on upgrade, direct from orange for £30 pm 600mins + unlimited text and web, phone was free!
I suspect you can get it for free on the £25pm but I wanted unlimited web.

Oranges' deals are not that good at all.
First of all 18 month contracts for any WM Device enthusist are terrible. You want to try the new forthcoming WM7 HTC devices, you will want a 12 month deal.
Secondly Orange's unlimited data isnt unlimited. Its a 500MB fair use policy (too little) that - according to their website (and there has been some confusion about this) is limited to 2 months. After 2 months, you pay for the data package.

You need to check if these 3rd party dealers are giving the unlimited mobile data. I just ordered with M2YD on a Dolphin 35 18 month contract, free handset and this DOES include the unlimited mobile browing (confirmed with M2YD and Orange CS on the phone). £35 per month with £210 back on redemption and £55 cashback with quidco. This means my total cost for the 18months will be £365

Me too
I've ordered from m2yd.
Dolphin 35 .... £210 cashback, unlimited internet and texts. £55 back from www.quidco.com
In all, over 18 months it will cost me £20.28 per month
Best deal currently available over 18 months ... I think I've searched them all!

The contract may be 18 months but i was simply looking at the total cost. As in, if a phone comes out in 12 months that you want, buy that also. There's nothing to stop you running two contracts concurrently. If you've seen a better deal from another network, post it, just because it's an 18 month deal doesn't make it bad.
Also, show me a network that does unlimited data that doesn't have a fair usage policy? Hell, every ISP has one, why wouldn't a phone network who has to send data over a massive infrastructure of cell towers
Btw, im not an Orange fan, im a Tmobile fan, no bias here.

I don't worry about the 18 months thing. For heavily subsidied expensive phones, it often works out that the TCO over 18 months is just a few more £ than over 12 months.
Way back when I got my Wizard with Vodafone, the 18 month contract was about £20 more than with a 12 month contract. I still got my Vario II 12 months later, but then had a spare contract phone for 6 months for £20.
As for the whole "unlimited" thing, it's not just in regards to data, they also wrap "unlimite texts" etc. in similar weasel words. I'm surprised that they're all allowed to get away with it still. It's pure false advertising, and they all do it.

sounds like bias to me.
At least T Mobile offer 1GB fair use. 500MB is way too limited.
Also with T's web n walk plus, you get free GLOBAL T Mobile hotspot access.
Also T have a brilliant HSDPA network. How extensive is Oranges?
Also with orange - you seen that cost to non orange mobiles outside of your air time?
As for contract length.. let me put it this way..
12 months ago I bought a brand new HTC Touch.

Slightly OT, but does the Orange unlimited internet allow for using the phone as a modem? Is it unlimited internet or unlimited data?
Likewise does it allow for VOIP?
I can see how Opera will quickly eat into the data instead of pocket IE and its cut down pages
Back on topic, Orange allow a downgrade to the next lower tariff after 9(?) months -so a bit more saving. Not sure if this impacts on the cashback offer though

The unlimited package on orange does not allow tethering or VOIP...

Have done quite a bit of VOIP over 3G with Skype using an Orange 250mb data plan with my old Tytn 2 and never got charged for it, when I check my usage all it shows is I used a few megs, done that for months
Not tried tethering though as I have no need to.
They may say we don't allow you to do it but doesn't mean they banned it

Sorry, whats tethering?

Recieved my orange UK diamond!!
Wooo!
I've got my diamond today through the m2yd and quidco cashback offer.
There's no discernable customisation to the interface and a very discreet orange badge on the rear cover.
Here are some unboxing pics:

Also to add, it is sim-locked.

Got mine too!
Don't forget, first thing to do is look right at the bottom of the box and get the screen protector, and fit this before doing anything else

Which is the best UK operator?

Hi all,
I'm due for and upgrade soon and I was wondering what you think of your operator. Prices / Customer service and support / Network coverage etc.
EDIT-My original reason for this thread is below. I took the risk of going with Orange today and got a Trinity
I'm considering a Trinity (only on Orange atm) or a Hermes (on o2, T-Mobile and Vodafone)
I prefer to look of the Trinity (bigger storage card, size, cheaper and GPS) but I view Orange as a bad point, but the Hermes has more support and roms here and is available with my current operator - o2, who I plan to bribe with 'give a free phone and a better contract, or I'll go to t-mobile or vodafone.' Anyone had any luck doing that?
reliability- vodafone
best deals - t-mobile
t-mobile wins
Do you know if any of the UK providers offer unlimited internet connection (without the stupid 'fair use' policy)? I mean, really unlimited like usual broadband?

How much are you planning on using? I find it hard to get anywhere close to the 1GB fair use "limit" on standard Web n Walk.
Unless you plan on doing a lot of streaming video, in which case you should get the Web n Walk pro which has a 10Gb ceiling, you will find it hard to download a lot on a pocket pc.
bbobeckyj, I tried the same 'bribe' but it got me nowhere. I have always been on O2, but might have to switch to Vodafone because they have much better contracts that suit my needs for my XDA Mini S. Vodafon are bringing out a new internet extra as well soon, so I'm going to wait until then.
Well guys and gals I successfully ported across to t-mobile from O2....the data charges are just scandalous on O2.
Web-n-walk and U-Fix 25....nice
HSDPA activated already according to the woman at t-mobile and i can verify it was....just watched the latest BBC News feed without a hitch!.
NICE

I was thinking of using skype a lot actually. For that, I think definitely 1 GB limit will be crossed fairly easily. But for that also need a fast connection. Will look into all this when about to get new contract near end August.
Midget1990: I didn't know that usual broadband is also capped! I have NTL and I download easily something like 20 to 40 gigs a month, which sometimes increases and sometimes decreases... So far never faced any caps, and got this connection just for that fact that it was 'really' unlimited, even if the speed was just 2 Mbps.
Just so you know, t-mobiles usage policy doesnt allow skype...you have to use the web-n-walk pro for that.

You just potentially saved me spending a lot over nothing.
Now all that's left is to find someone who does allow unlimited usage and VOIP. I think I'm living in dreamworld
I don't really want to pay loads for a contract, but it looks like the cheapest t-mobile do is about £30 . Which would you say is better out of web n walk and flext?
EDIT: Just looked at flext 20 and it looks perfect for me. (Mobile internet (t-zones, WAP or web'n'walk) charges
Browsing costs 0.73p per KB, a maximum charge of £1 per day no matter how much you browse the internet on your mobile phone.)
Please could somebody say though, where would the £1 for the internet come from, because the £34 you get to spend a month just says that you use it on calls and texts. Does it come from somewhere else? (Never been on a contract before)
Well all i can say is im using flext 25 with web-n-walk 18.....that works out at 32.50 a month..........unlimited internet (obviously fair use...but a gig is MASSIVE for a pda)
the flext thing has 60 quid of allowance, works out at (if you go half for text and half for calls)
300 texts
150 minutes (anytime,anywhere(uk) )
plus free weekend calls to ANY uk number (not including premium or 08 numbers)
Youd get much more out of the flext + web-n-walk 25, but i really wanted to pay the cheapest option. I hate it when they put a few quid in between, but boost the allowance by almost double.

Yer ive noticed that...but the free weekend calls must be worth a HELL of alot.....think thats a limited time offer aswell??
Which have you looked at then?
I was gonna go with flext 20 + web-n-walk.
I can't see when the offer ends, I can't actually start the contract now so was going to in a month or so.

WnW MAX allows skype, its basicly everything like home Broadband but with 10gb fair usage, you can go over but if you go over say 3months in a row they may contact you and ask you to reduce it, allthou 10gb for a PDA is a hell of a lot, unless you plan on using it as a modem a lot of the time 10gb should do.
if you will be using it as a modem all the time then the t-mobile usb modem might be a better option as that allows unlimtied internet - http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/personal/.../internet-on-the-move/internet-on-your-laptop
Regards
I wish that t-mobile did a cheaper flext and web-n-walk. I only really want to spend £20 a month.
Orange - best customer service, talk 7 data plans ok, do the Trinity on very good deals if you shop around
T mobile - plans excellent if you want flexibility or if you download a lot.
O2 - customerservice absolute ****, plans ok, once the best range of PDA's - now limited
Vodafone - havnt a clue
Really depends on deal your offered. Orange clinched it for me at last upgrade - 7 months free line rental and a free trinity with GPS on a 12 month contract.
One thing to note about t-mobile wnw.
They are blocking IRC/MSN etc... over GPRS, some users have reported those apps are working correctly however recently signed up customers seem to have ports blocked??
Id be interested to know if anyone can use IRC over wnw....if so what GPRS settings are you using?

Short answer - no. I've been with Genie and then O2 for many years, and the one thing that's happened in that time is handset and contracts have become more expensive. I rang up a while ago to try and get a new XDA, and they wanted to put me on a £35+ contract and I would still have to pay something for a (decent) phone.
What O2 are good at (for me at least) is giving you dirt cheap contracts. For instance I got a 1 year contract of £20 a month reduced to £10 a month, then £100 cash back for not taking a phone. So I'm paying £20 for a whole year for Online Offpeak 300 (or whatever the hell it is). Even the O2 rep suggested I just get an XDA off Ebay.

Orange upgrades to TYTN II ..what tariff deals are you getting?

Am not sure if this is the right area for this post but here goes:
Orderd my TYTN II today on my old tariff of £20.00 a month which includes 200 text, 10 photo messages + 5mb data, 1000 minutes off peak.. phone was free and all on a 12 month contract. my total cost for the whole year will be £240. when the large data bundles come out i may go for it but for now i tend to use my m3100 throgh the wi-fi at home. i only tend to download my hotmail/gmail messages or msn when on the move ie twice a week if no wifi is avail. what i am worried about is that it would have been nice to have the Anytime tariff.
I might still get a sim only monthly tariff off T-mobile.
Does anyone know what this will be called on Orange. Are they going the same way as they did with the touch?
its called the Orange TYTN II
Deleted... was talking bollocks!
WOOHOO! Finally got to talk to someone in Retentions who has a brain.
Got the TYTN II for free but had to take an 18mth contract.
Same deal as I was on - £35 (I think) for 500 any time, any network mins, 500 texts.
Probably not the best deal, but beggars cannae be choosers!
F.
good one enjoy.....
Racoon 35
Hi Guys, just got my Kaiser / Tytn 2 on Orange ...
Here's the deal - (I think it's good for the rest of October)
Racoon 35 - £35/month on 18 month contract - this gives 700 across any network minutes, plus 100 text (not a big text guy) .. plus unlimited landline numbers starting 01 or 02.
On the £35 contract, the tytn2 was £89.99 but the package provided cashback on an old phone ... I got £150 c/b on an old nail of a Nokia 3110 ... cashback works on airtime credit so I've bought the phone with four months free use.
They are also providing unlimited data access at evenings and weekends for two months.
Negatives .. No sexy iPhone style HTC black theme .. watch out for the data after two months free use .. the small print automatically puts you on a £5 a month data tariff if you don't opt out (the same with the traffic TV service too).
PS, Just installed Tomtom 6 and the internal GPS works better than my old bluetooth did on my XDA mini.
Wish list ... make the display look like the iPhone
Well, after getting Orange to put £100 credit on my account to upgrade to a free TYTN II on a 12 month contract, I thought I'd phone up their customer services and have a small whinge about their appallingly bad data bundles. Currently I pay £4 for a measly 4mb on an old orange world bundle. Their best offer was £8 for a capped 30mb per month. Eventually, having been fobbed off with a stock answer I was put through to a "supervisor" who agreed, when I mentioned Vodafones £7.50 for 120mb deal, that the Orange one was, perhaps, lacking!
I explained that with modern phones such as the TYTN II having the potential for being far more data intensive (google maps, youtube, skype, bbc streaming etc) that it was about time Orange offered a fair price for a decent or even uncapped data limit.
Apparently, this may happen sooner rather than later, as I was told that new tariffs were being rolled out in March ('08) and that after many complaints data tariffs were also being revamped. I do hope that this does indeed transpire. If anyone has any further info please post...
Hmm. Wonder how much these new data bundles will cost?
Can't see them allowing you to move from an £8/month 30Mb bundle to a cheaper with more data one? or maybe they will surprise us...for once.
Spoke to a nice woman at Orange last month, I told here that I am paying £8 for 30mb and said I wanted to change my data bundle to the 250mb one. She checked and said it was only for business customers as I was on an animal plan, I lied and said a friend rang up a while ago and said he was on an animal plan and they put him on the 250mb package ok , she went and checked with her supervisor and she said that I could go on the 250mb package on my current animal plan
So everyone on the 30mb Orange data bundle, I would phone Orange now and request the much bigger package for less money, am so happy now
Orange World for Business 4 £2.50 4MB £0.80
Orange World for Business 10 £5.00 10MB £0.80
Orange World for Business 250 £6.38 250MB £0.80
Orange World for Business 1024 £17.02 1024MB £0.80

This has made my day, i'm going to ring them tomorrow and say the same thing, hopefully they will bump me up.
They told me on the phone the next level up from £8 - 30mb was £35 - 80mb, I mean what the hell? Isn't bandwidth supposed to get cheaper the more you buy?
They are so far behind the competition with their data charges it's beyond a joke. Unfortunately for me I live rurally and have no choice but to use Orange as it's the only carrier with a decent signal out here.
Mr Radeon123 was not wrong. Just got myself 250mb for £6.38 per month (which is minus the VAT) so £8.00 or thereabouts is the charge per month. Thanks for the info matey!!!
If they don't bump you up just keep phoning, someone will eventually put you on the business data tariff.
I think the business tariffs should be the normal data tariffs as the current ones are redicolous
Here is my 250mb data bundle screenshot as proof
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/Radeon/NewPicture-1.jpg
I'd be shipping off to T-Mobile to be honest.
Shame 3 dont do the handset, there network deals have become good and their data packages are defo better.
Got my better half (not so techie) on a 2mb per day data bundle with Orange and that is FREE for ever. They do charge £0.50 per 50kb if you go over (£10 per mb) so spb gprs monitor is pretty useful.
Having just got the 250mb for £8.00 business bundle put on my personal account, I enquired again about the possibility of updated data bundles coming out in March...
STOP PRESS!! The lady I spoke to said that on 1/3/08 £8.00 will buy UNLIMITED DATA (NOT capped at 30mb or anything else)
Hope this information proves to be correct and is of use to those of you in the UK...
I've also just upgraded to the £8 data bundle, the guy I spoke to said the fair usage policy kicks in if you go over 1Gb on a regular basis, so I think thats as close to unlimited as you can get for mobile use, so long as your not using it as a modem too much.
To top it off as I'm getting my 8Mb broadband connection free with my contract it's a relatively cheap option for data.
Vodafone seems to be the way to go...
My Tytn II is about 2-3 months old, I got in on Vodafone for free on an 18 month contract. Originally I had to pay £40 per month for 750 mins & unlimited texts. I haggled with them and brought them down to £25 for the same! WOO!
Well i was gonna leave orange and got this deal in the end , phone free , £35 18 month contract giving 500mins cross network and unlimited text messages , 100 additional loyalty bonus minutes , £5 monthly discount loyalty bonus and the basic data package
Be careful with the data package.
I was offered the unlimited data access at evenings and weekends for two months.
I had data charges for about £4.00 for each of those two months.
When I queried this I was told I had gone to websites outside the Orange World portal !
I no longer use Orange for data.
r
Andrew
Pretty good deal, I think
I have two phone contracts with orange 35 pound/month each for 500 mins and 500 text. Near the end of contract. Over the last month, I've phoned disconnections 5 times getting a better offer each time. Tonight I went with this:
Phone 1) SE K810i 600mins & unlimited text 15pound/month
Phone 2) TyTn 11 700 mins & 100 text ... wait for it 20 pounds/month.
Both phones free. Also added 250MB data to the TyTn11 for extra 7.50/month.
I'm pretty chuffed. Phones arrive Thursday. Now on to ebay for 8GB microSD card!

Orange unlimted mobile browsing confusion

Ok im sure every1's heard about oranges new unlimited browsing offer;
they provide free unlimted mobile browsing on all 18 month and £35+ pay monthly contracts
has any one got more information on this as i cant dig up anything other then a whole lot of crap and dirt.
does this free unlimited bundle provide the same fair usage policy as the £7.50 unlimited mobile browsing or is it different?
on this link
http://www1.orange.co.uk/entertainment/OrangeWorld/terms.php
it says "The Offer provides 250 MB data browsing for £7.50 per month"
while on this link
http://www1.orange.co.uk/service_plans/unlimited_bundles_terms.html
it says "The Offers are subject at all times to a fair usage policy of 3000 minutes or texts (as appropriate) each month or 500MB data per month"
im sure alot of other people are confused with orange, iv called their customer support team up many times and nearly all of them seem ignorant regarding thier "Unlimited" mobile browsing bundles.
If you get a 18 month contract with a mobile phone on a deal that is £35 or more excluding the £5 online discount that's presently avalible then you get an free 'unlimited' bundle for data that has a fair use cap of 500mb however if you get a deal less then then £35 then you can still buy an 'unlimited' bundle for an extra £7.50 a month on top of your standard contract that has a fair use cap of 250mb.
You can't of course get the free 'unlimited' bundle of 500mb and pay an extra £7.50 to get an extra 250mb, least not that I know off, as your not buying 500mb of data but unlimited data.
It should be noted also that with either of the deals Instant Messaging is deemed an abuse of service as is VoIP, YouTube (or any video not on Oranges mobile site) or using you mobile as an internet sharing device. As to how easy it is for Orange to pick up on your use, how often they do, etc, I really don't know.
Other networks seem to have better terms, Three almost seems to promote the things Orange bans and apparently Three use Orange's 2G where they don't have there own 3G coverage!
I'm on PAYG with Orange, and apart from there Orange Wendsday I'm not sure why I'm still with them. :-(
my contract with orange expires in february and i just baught a touch diamond,
i upgraded my plan to one with free unlimited mobile browsing
its a bit stupid how orange promotes htc's touch diamond, yet their data bundles and stupid restrictions really make the phone ineffective in fulfiling its marketed purpose and functions.
The diamond has a youtube player, yet where not allowed to use it, when my contract expires im going to move to o2

why not use a real htc or custom rom?
i am using a custom rom on htc diamond, iv got the unlimited package on my line now, its active, when i called customer services yesterday they said 250mb, i called them this morning and they said 500mb, i hope they dont mess me about and charge me extra once iv gone over 250mb
what I would do is call once again to confirm and take down the persons name and ext. just incase there are any comebacks. I did query what would happed in if i exceeded fair usuage policy i was informed i will not be charged but will be advised to control my usuage otherwise services will be restricted.
iv called them again and now they go its 250mb, so last night they said 250, this morning they said 500, and now they just said 250, i gave the woman i was speaking to, the link that says i get 500mb, i asked for the package in august during their promotion, and the link clearly says 500mb but the woman said to me that this link may not be a real orange website because it starts with www1.
but shes chatting nonsence, as it is the real orange website.
she goes to me its 250mb but shes gona look into the link i gave her to find out what it is and give me a call back tonight, so i will keep u lot updated.
Orange really need to fix up
The www1 remark is outter nonsence! URL's work backwards, so it's .co.uk first, then orange then www1. Orange own anything *.orange.co.uk ! It's the same as how xda-developers.com is owned and uses forum.xda-developers.com and wiki.xda-developers.com etc, surely this is common knowledge to someone who's suppose to give advice at Orange?

Are orange activly trying to loose customers?

When I left Orange i was at least offerd a free Touch Diamond and an Okay 35 quid a month connection with there so called unlimited data package...
But yesterday we moved my mums phone...
The retentions guy basically wanted us to pay 40 quid a month for the contract. And wanted us to pay 150 quid for the phone...
Oh and Unlimited is now 250mb FUP... And he was even being very dodgy as im sure it was 500mb... he simply said "it depends on who you talk to"
I was a bit WTF by his attitude.
His attitude was not friendly by any means if anything it was aggressive insulting and uncaring.
I just found it really odd also that one week i get offerd a free phone a couple of weeks later they want 150 quid for it. Even with the contract. As if being a returning customer means nothing to them...
Anyone else had really bad experiences with them?
Oh and on that day we went to a Tmobile shop and got my mum a Compact IV Just waiting for the pack code to arrive to transfer the number.
In my experience;
Never take the first offer. Take note of all they have to offer, look at other prociders' contracts and then call back. You can usually negotiate something.
Always make sure you get through to Retensions, not Upgrades. Same handset, same contracts, different prices.
Prices do depends on how many 'credits' you rack up during the contract. If you pay minimum line rental and never go over minutes, you don't get much leverage on new phones/contracts.
Personally, I've always gone for 12 month contracts as I can't stand the thought of having one phone for more than a year!
I was on Orange, switched to O2, got the £35/month deal.
No more callers getting put through to my voicemail instead of my phone!
No need to go through Orange to do an upgrade, just visit one of the third party providers (car phone warehouse, Phones4U etc.) and they will upgrade you with a better deal than Orange will offer direct.
I got a free Diamond on my existing Dolphin £25 contract. Just walked into Phones4U and they offered to upgrade with no additional cost. In less than half an hour I had a new phone without having to change contract or number.
Orange!!
I was on contract with Orange for 10 years.... and when I told them I was leaving 'cos £8 a month was ridiculous for 30MB of data, some guy in an Indian call centre just said OK... 'OK'!!! TEN YEARS!
I've moved to vodafone... £30 a month, free Touch Diamond, 250 mins anytime, 150 texts, 500MB data... and polite call centre staff I can actually understand and who know what they're talking about!
I wouldn't touch Orange again if they offered me for free, every new device HTC release in the future! Good bye forever

Is this a good deal from P4U ?

Rang Phones4U for a deal on an upgrade for a HTC One on Voda.
As my sim only deal expires April 18th, I want a deal for The One and after some negotiation they offered me,
£21pm for 24M on Voda
600 mins, unlimited texts & 500mb (am a minimal user so that will do me)
Handset cost £140
So total of £644
Sound good or people had better ??
Seems a good enough deal it is effectively £28/month. I got my contract for £31 on a 18 month Contract 400mins unlimited texts 750mb internet and two swappables.

Which network was that with ? & free handset ?
Voda is probably the most expensive but thats the only network that doesn't let me down where ever i am.

With that i got a Free HTC One, A Free Flip Case, Free UrBeats, 600 Mins, Ult Texts and 1GB Data with 2 swapables - Sky Sports and Deezer
Not bad tbh
