I want replace a file "HH_0405_WeatherCities.xml" in file Windows. But this file is in ROM memory. The phone write:"File '\Windows\HH_0405_WeatherCities.xml' is in ROM memory! You cannot delete it."
How to replace this original file "HH_0405_WeatherCities.xml" with modified file "HH_0405_WeatherCities.xml"?
You can't delete a file located in ROM, but you can *overwrite* it (it does not truely overwrite, because if you delete you newly added file, the old one will respawn).
To do this don't use the file explorer; use total commander or the great resco explorer instead.
Stop the device from using a file in ROM?

So then on that note, how does one remove or prevent the use of a file in ROM? More specifically, it seems that HTC_Task_X-Button_2_0_30995_1 conflicts with Wisbar Advance 3. Often you end up with TWO little drop downs on the Start bar, one overwriting the other, and that can lock the system up.
Frankly, Wisbar is a MUCH better product, so is there a way to stop the device from using the HTC version and therefore install the Wisbar version?
I've looked, but I'm not coming across an effective answer.
Thanks in advance!
I have "X-button" in the control panel. On the button tab at the bottom you can disable the quick menu on the today screen. Works for me, I use wisbar too.

Hicks, thank you.
But I'm a bit lost, "control panel?" Do mean you go into Programs > X-Button, and then open it up, and there's a tab at the bottom where I can disable the quick menu?
Because that seems a LOT easier than fiddling around with the registry or ROM or something.
Thanks!

Obviously that is the easiest way to stop X button. For future reference, and as mentioned before, the stock file explorer won't over write some of those system files. Resco is my personal choice for this. Also, certain utilities are handy to have for shutting down processes. MemMaid is a good tool for that. I'm sure there are others. In short, apps like MemMaid and Resco File Explorer are essential tools to have for the type of mods you are wanting to do.

you have to use a special exlporer on your pda like rescueexplorer or totalcommander. you can´t do it with activesync or the build in explorer
As many of you know, there are a few roms which do not allow some of use to use the n2a weather patch. For me it caused endless rebooting of my phone until i was forced to do a hard reset. I managed to find a way to get around it, so i thought i'd share it for any others in the same boat as me.
Okay, here's what i did, and i have a working HTC home w/ working weather:
1) Disable HTC Home from today screen
2) Unzip the attached file, then copy it to the windows directory
3) Soft Reset
4) Enabled HTC Home
No more constant restarting, and the weather updates correctly. Please let me know if this works for others.
**Edit**
If you cannot overwrite HTChome.dll, then use use totalcommander or some other file explorer and rename the existing one HTChome.old, and then copy the new file to the windows folder and soft reset, should work like a charm.
Update:
I have uploaded a new version of htchome.dll which should not cause you to lose the backlight shortcut in the launcher. Please test it out, and let me know if there are any new problems related to this file, as i am not having any myself.

another workaround:
Credit to Brynwall for the following updates/workarounds:
Can't copy file:
1. Create a folder in the main directory (call it what-you-will).
2. Copy your new HTCHome.dll file to that directory.
3.Go to the Windows folder and copy the HTCHome.dll.0409.mui file to your new folder.
4. Use a REGEDIT program and go to HKLM > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Today > Items > HTC Home
5. Change the location for the HTCHome.dll file to your new folder.
6. Done!!!!
Weather won't download via edge or 3g:
For those of you still having problems with the weather plug-in here is another thing I did to fix it:
1. Go to Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks - Edit (MEdia Net) - Proxy Settings -> UNCHECK BOTH OPTIONS
2. Soft Reset
It should work fine
Adding Cities to Custom Database
To create a customized database of cities use HTC Home Customizer, which can be downloaded from many locations on this site, or from my 4shared folder. Perform the following steps:
1) Make sure you have copied the patched htchome.dll file as instructed in the first post.
2) I am not sure it's necessary, but i usually disable the HTC Home plugin when making the changes.
3) Open HTC Home and navigate to the weather tab.
4) From the drop-down menu entitled "database type" select "custom"
5) Click "Enter New City" and then enter the relevant data for your city.
6) Click "Save City to Custom Database"
7) Repeat steps 4 & 5 for as many cities as you would like to add.
8) Click and "save" and then enable the HTC Home Plugin again.
9) Your weather tab should now display your customized list of cities.
If the above steps don't work, then try the steps provided below:

Here is a method to get HTC Home Customizer and the HTCHome.dll to play nicely together on an AT&T Tilt running stock 6.1 with no bloatware installed. You must to a hard reset to get this to work so the appropriate back up warnings apply!
This method is courtesy of tbraun on the AT&T forum.
You will need:
a. tcmdpocketarm (attached below)
b. HHCv10b5 (attached below)
c. HTCHome.dll (attached below).
Here's the steps:
Install all programs to the device using File Explorer to find and click on the cabs.
1. Do a Hard Reset and use appropriate techniques to ensure the AT&T bloatware was not installed.
2. Install TCM Total Commander (You can use any other program that will let you edit/move .dll files and install it here.)
3. Soft Reset
4. Install HTC Home Customizer 10b5 (Do not use 1.0 Final!)
5. Soft Reset
6. Used TCM Total Commander (Or what ever program you installed.) to rename HTCHome.dll to HTCHome.old in the Windows directory on the phone.
7. Used TCM Total Commander (Or what ever program you installed.) to move HTCHome .dll from your storage card to the Windows directory.
8. Soft reset the phone. (I had to do this twice. The first time HTC Home did not load. On the second soft reset the phone asked me if I wanted to install HTCHome.dll and I said yes. and HTC Home loaded.)
At this point, you should be able to both use HHC to edit appearance and customize weather following the steps above.
Again, major thanks to tbraun on the AT&T forum for coming up with the basic method. The hard reset is required because the AT&T 6.1 ROM version of HTC Home seems to need these items installed in this order to work. I'd tried various other orders and this one without a hard reset and HTC Home Customizer would only do one thing, or the other, appearances or weather.
how can I load this file if my phone keeps rebooting even with a soft reset?
I have a window of 5 seconds to load the file before it reboots but it wont let me copy the file. Access denied. Probably in use? Any other ideas?

Sorry, it was a typo, i had to do a hard reset. Then i did these steps after my device was setup again. Just do not run the cab file that causes the constant rebooting problem.

Did you perform a hard reset? Once you are in the constant reboot cycle you will have to perform a hard reset so that you phone will load normally. Then you can disable htc home, and then copy the file into the windows directory. You will have to overwrite the one that is there already. Do not install the cab file fix that was causing the rebooting problem. If this isn't addressing your issues then maybe i'm not understanding you. Please explain in more detail and i'll see if i can help.
Performed hard rest. Unable to overwrite existing HTCHOME.dll file. HTC home plugin is disabled and does not appear on the today screen.

did you check to see if the file is read-only? I'm downloading it, i'll give it a whirl see if i can't get it to work. Any reason you're using that particular rom?
I did and I noticed it was set to read-only. How can I change this? Is there a program like total commander that will allow this?

*sigh* of relief. Thanks skatdawg & P1Tater. That did it. Thought I bricked it for a sec.
1. disable HTChome plug-in from today screen
2. remove read-only from HTChome.dll using resco explorer or total commander
3. copied new HTChome.dll from storage card or any other folder and copy->move to and overwrite in /Windows using resco or total commander.
No more rebooting and Local weather works. YAY!

dont thank me bro. skat come up with all of this. i just provided a cab to overwrite windows files
OK. I have selected my city from the list that came with the HTC Weather but after few days it locks on the "Attemping to download data".
Am I having the same issue or I´m having a different problem (I'm using an city that was in the original HTC list). Since I' m not using a custom city will this DLL solve my problem too?
Thanks

I think it should, but nobody in your situation has tried it yet. If you're up to it you could give it a try and let us know. To my knowledge all this does is change the server it's pulling the information from...at least that is my understanding.
Anyone have a solution to the Brightness Application not working anymore?

After flashing the same ROM and making the same adjustments to the HTC Weather plugin my phone now locks up completely on boot and the only way I can get it to not reset is to pull the SIM card - and then I can't connect through ActiveSync- I do plan on reviewing the forums as soon as I can but if anyone has suggestions on how to correct I would appreciate -
Thanks.
Is there a version or a similar software for the Fuze? I would like to mess with themes and backgrounds.
It works just fine on the FUZE...........
Thats odd, I can't get it to work on my Fuze. I download a theme and no matter where I put it, when I select the location there is nothing in the drop down. Is anyone else having that problem?

First, make sure that you are saving a .theme file and not a .zip file.
Next, make sure the directory that you save the .theme file is highlighted when you click OK in the Diamond TF3D Config screen where you select the path. (i.e. Don't navigate into the directory, just select it)
After you select the directory and click OK, nothing shows in the drop-down box at first. You have to click the down arrow on the right part of the box to see the available themes.
Ill give it another try. I'm pretty sure that is what I was doing but I have searched all over the Raphael and Diamond forums and couldn't find another person with the same problem so its very likely that I am a moron. Thanks for the response!
I see we can't use rom 1.93. What does the Fuze come stock with? Is there a way to check?
I'm afraid to mess something up =/

Hello all,
I need to know if I can add a Call history icon/shortcut to my Viva, wm6.5 (Rom: Evo 2.5A)
I searched here on XDA and on Google, and found alot of solutions that only includes TouchFlo 3D, but not 2D.
So, anyone has any idea how can such solutions be possible for Manila 2D under WM 6.5 ??
I already found the solution!
Simply download the attached file and extract it, copy callhistory.exe to anywhere in your device (ex. on Widnows folder, or My Documents)
I copied it to My Documents in my case, just not to wait for Windows folder to load
Then use Manila 2D Config tool, M2DC (Just search M2DC on the forum to download it if you don't already have it)
Use M2DC to create assign one of the softkeys (either the left or the right one) to the new callhistory.exe
Go to Softkeys tab in M2DC, browse to the folder where you copied callhistory.exe into, and select the file, choose a name for your shortcut, then clikc apply. And that's it.
I replaced the left softkey, the one was previously assigned to Phone, to be my new call history shortcut

you are absolutely right. Desktop version of windows dont work in WM, we need WM version of the exe. An exe file that says "Not a valid win32 application" on the desktop
