Have done a search and have found nothing, so I thought I would make a post.
My contacts are all in the format "surname, first name". I find this to be really annoying, is there any application or option to reverse this so I have "first name, surname" ?

This little app will do the trick. Works perfect for me.
Only problem, each time you add a new contact, you will have to run it again, as the new contact is then again in lastname, firstname format.

Well, ...if you have too many contacts it's going to take a while, but if you don't wanna mess anything up with apps, try the following (helpful when inserting new contacts as well )
I just had the same prob and noticed that a few gaps below the "Name" gap, it says "File as" and when u click there you can choose if you want surname or name displayed first.
:O I did all 200+ contacts manually in Outlook then sync'd them across -_-"

Hi all, when I add a new contact, this option appears by "surname, name" be default. I like to have contacts by "name, surname"; so everytime I add acontact I have to go to this option and change.
Anyone knows how to change this value by default?. I know there is a program for Pocket PC that fix it but i don't know how to manage with a SMP.

Hi,
I've managed to do adjust it in my Outlook. There is an option when you click on your contact, to just say 'display as .. '. It's there where you can state how to list your contacts if I'm not mistaken.

I'm trying to sync my Diamond with my Mac by using Missing Sync. The connection works just fine and I have all my contacts on the phone. The only problem is when the syncronization is done I'm no longer able to add contacts to my People list.
I just get an error message that claims there is something wrong with manila.exe
I can't get rid of the problem without a hard reset and as soon as I sync the phone again (after doing a hard reset) the problem is back. Any solutions?
I'm having the same issues... I belive that it is related to the method that mark/space is syncing (the small app one is required to install before syncing the first time). I've have written to mark/space regarding this issue but haven't recieved a reply yet...
I am, however, able to add some of my contacts, I haven't been able to see a pattern as to why those particular contacts are being added when manila crashes when choosing another...
EDIT: May I suggest that you change the topic in order to get other members using missing sync to look this way... The current "People manila.exe error" is somewhat cryptic

Ok... let's hope they respond. If they do, please post here. Topic changed.
Problem solved. Remove all images from your contacts. Manila only gets an error when the vcard has pictures.
Yeah... same thing happens to me. Makes that part of the app useless. But I found that if you take the pics with your camera on the phone and add them it doesn't happen... as often!

i have since yesterday a problem, syncing my contacts.
Yesterday i wanted to call my GF and i found out, that that her contact isn't on my diamond. At monday it was...
So i though "ok, maybe i deleted it" so i looked today on my outlook and saw, that the contact of my gf exists. So i connected my diamond and wait for the sync, it tells me, that it was synced and then i checked again for the contact on both sides. But its on outlook and not on the diamond
I also tried to rename the contact, but same problem happened
I also did a soft reset on the diamond
Can anyone help me?

Just check the sync settings again (on the pc)
make sure that CONTACTS option is checked.

I checked it. I unchecked the box, checked again... same problem.
Now i tried to create a completely new contact, for testing, and it appeared after the sync on my diamond. But not the "old" contact of my GF
Confusing...
ohh and also, there is an option where it replaces items on outlook OR replaces items on your phone.
Given that you are missing items on the phone, make sure that you choose the option to REPLACE ITEMS ON THE DEVICE and NOT on the computer (at least for this time).
If this does work .. when you are done.. switch the settings to update the outlook info with the one on your phone.
:S checked this option and it's already set to replace items on device...
So .. NEW Contacts ARE Syncing.. but your Gf's isn't!

Err.. this is perhaps the lamest suggestion.. but.. wth.. could it possibly be first name / last name thing?
(I don't know anyone who would put up his gf's contact as first name last name.. but... )
Scroll the contacts.. and see if it got saved as the last name first (**** happens)

Whatever you do mate.. don't ever mention that to your girl...
Hehe i saved my gf with firstname and lastname
But i also tried to search for her first and her lastname... but both tries had no result...

Final suggestion..
You do have the number in outlook, right.
go to the phone dialer.. physically enter the phone number and then hit call..
see if it displays a name..
(this is just to be a 100% sure that it isn't in your contacts)
No offence mate, but this is definitely wierd.. and it's better to be 100% sure
if the above doesn't display a name..
DELETE your gf's contact from outlook..
make a NEW contact with your GF's name.. and then sync
(may be.. JUST MAY BE there MIGHT be a problem with the fields entered in the existing contact file for your gf's contact)

I also saved the companyname.. i'm unshure, how it happened... but in the "save as..." field was not her first and lastname, there was the company name... damn... shame on me, that i didn't check this -.-

I got the same problem (I used to sort my contact with first name too...)
but seems wm doesn't give any options how we can sort the contact.. sigh...
I think that the only way is to reverse the surname with the name tag in Outlook, at least I have done so.
Full name, I put them in the same field as if it were a composite name and I left blank surname, then if you want the last name first, just invert.
Other methods I have not found for the diamond, there was p3600 shows by name or surname
I found a way.
At Leas on my mac.
I tried 2 softwares to synchronize my Contacts with Diamond..
*SyncMate
- Syncs all goo but no option to sort First Name.
*Missing Sync
- Perfect. Lots of options including sort First or Last Name.
iCal sync, tasks, everything you would expect and more.. it goes even further providing SMS/MMS syncing, itunes, iphoto...

Search for the tiny program called "Contact Changer" This does what you want

sync the Diamond to the Outlook on your pc.
In Outlook, select the display method as First Name, Last Name.
Sync again to get the sorted contacts back to the diamond.
or..
change the FILE AS field as required (will take time as this has to be done one by one)
I know this is probably easy but I have looked everywhere. I have windows vista with outlook 2007. I want to sort my contacts on my HTC FUZE so that the contacts are sorted by first name. Please help me. I know at one time I had a file I could run on my cell phone when I had a MDA and it sorted my contact but now I cant find it. Thanks!!!!

If the contacts are saved on your phone (not on your sim), then what you can do is go to each contact name, select Menu>Edit, and you should see a list of options of come up. What you want to do is go to where it says "File As" and from the drop down menu, select how you want the name to be displayed. for example, do you want it as "Last, First" or "First Last"

Great tool saves a lot of time by doing it manually.
pocket informant 8 let's you do this and sort your contacts many other ways.
It does but PI8 is not freeware and the previous solution is
Also, changes made in sorting inside PI8 does not affect the normal contact manager.

in case u hav too many contacts, thr s a easier way rathr thn doing each contact one by one......just sync d contacts with Outlook, change the sorting in Outlook Contacts folder to "First name" and sync back.....all contacts will be sorted d way, thy r sorted in Outlook.....
