GPS Status

Hi
I´m looking for a software that will show if the gps is on or off
I also want to be able to turn the gps on or off.
Does anyone know how the gps work.
If I use tomtom and then close tomtom what happens with the gps, is it turned of? or is it still active?
Can I turn the gps off?
Same question when I take a gps photo.
/Stefan
You can tell if the GPS is on or off by the flashing orange LED on the right of the speaker slot. GPS is automatically turned off if it isn't being accessed.
Separate icon for GPS Status?
Just received my Kaiser today. First thing I've done is installed TomTom from the CD. GPS seems to be working ok, even got a signal inside.
The previous version of TomTom that I had on another device had a separate icon to run the GPS Status application. With version TT 6.032 it seems this is not the case. Is it possible to run TT's GPS Status app without directly running TT? Also, TT's GPS Status app does not seem to give you the possibility to change the way the co-ordinates are displayed. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any replies.

Problem with External GPS setting

hi everbody i hope you are doing well
i have a problem with my tytnII External GPS
the problem is (i can`t change the external GPS setting)
---------------
i can change only(Programs and Access) but not Hardware setting
which is (port and rate)
the port set to NONE
the rate set to 4800
i don`t know why
--------------
i change about 5 roms but the same problem
i hope some one help me becuase the gps signal take long time to discovered and its slow
thanksssssss
You shouldn't have to change the external GPS setting as the TyTN II has an internal GPS receiver that works well.
Please read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1515157#post1515157
for more Information.
What application do you want to use with your GPS? In order to get a good GPS fix you should run QuickGPS as it gets the satellite data for your current location via different connections, this helps to jumpstart the GPS.
Robert
thanks brother for your help
iam using Destinator 7
and iam doing the QuickGPS update every 6 dayes
..........
but the problem as i tell before its take time to discover the GPS signal
thanks alot
I have no experience with destinator on the TyTN II. As far as I have understood the thread I mentioned it might mean that you'll have to hard reset to start from scratch if you have messed with the "external GPS" settings. Other than that, setting destinator to use the internal GPS on COM4 with a baud rate of 4800 should be enough. Do you get a fix after 3-10 minutes, this is what it can take if you use it for the first time?
There's another thread just on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385286&highlight=radio+gps+fix
with a similar problem, maybe GPS test offers a solution for you.
Other than that, ISTR that during my time lurking in this forum (ca. past 6 weeks) there were some threads relating slow/no GPS fixes to radio issues. What radio/rom combo are you using?
Maybe a regular of the forum can chime in here and suggest a radio to try.

GPS Problem

Hi,
I need some help with my GPS. I just got a Diamond last week in a airpot shop in Germany. It does not have a buit in program for the GPS, only the QuikGPS, that seems to work. I intalled the GoogleMaps, GPS Utilities, SportsDo and AmAze GPS, But none of the work. They keep asking for the GPS. The only place on the Diamond that says something about GPS is on th settings, External GPS (Actualy it shoul be internal ). The is no indication about an internal GPS . Where I find it ? Shoul I do a hard reset ?
Thanks
vLADIMIR
In the External GPS settings make sure you set:
GPS Port: COM4
Hardware: (none) and 4800
Enable: Manage GPS Automatically
When using TomTom select internal or different GPS.
Be sure to close GPSTest before opening another program that requiers GPS.
You can only assign GPS once to a program. So no TomTom and iGo at the same time...

Agreed, that is missleading. Until now I always thought that Settings area was for External GPS only when now I see it is actually for both.

How to activate the internal GPS?

Hi,
I have just purchased the HTC TD2 from Dubai airport on my way to work. I'm still using the stock wm6.1 ROM. I have installed Garmin GMXT on to the TD2 but can not get the internal GPS to be located, is there a trick to it?
FYI I have been using an O2 Atom Life for many years now and GMXT was working on that ok with external BT receiver. I have the SW.UNL file on my device but how to make it work?
Any advise on the best ROM to upgrade to on this site?
Thanx and regards
I had to set up gps software manually. I use this settings for Smartmaps: Com port 4 and baud rate 4800.
Thanx PRDIC,
Where did you set those Com ports? I see in the Settings/system there is a icon for External GPS and that has tabs for "Programs" and another for "Hardware" is this anything to do with hte COM port used by the internal GPS Reciever?
The Garmin GMXT software does not allow the user to define the com ports unless they are set in the "External GPS" application that I mentioned above. I think it should be automatic connection but I'm not seeing the internal GPS. If i use my BT Reciever then i can detect it as BT reciever and connect.
well, it look like a your GMXT (Garmin Mobile XT) didn't register or ativate correctly. please try to ativate using code come with a package when you brought GMXT. if GMXT is not register. it will not show the internal GPS hardware port (useualy port-4).
with un-registered GMXT, it will show only "External GPS" (bluetooth)or "intermideate GPS" which it is a software base between real hardware.
Hope my explained could help. moreover, GMXT atvivate have many process step. just becareful when do it.
sorry for my english :-[
I've never used garmin software, so I can't help you with this

Thanx everyone,
I fixed the problem, it was due to a corupted file which occured when i installed the VOIP activation CAB for VOIP calling. The fix was found here and quoted below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402228&page=8
I had the same issue after installing the VOIP CAB on my Touch HD my GPS stopped completely (no GPS found) and found a fix for it in the orig. Thread about the VOIP CAB, where you have to rename a file and reset so it gets fresh created.
After this my GPS was running again.
The solution was "To solve the problem just rename file /windows/dnsapi.dll to for example dnsapi.dll_bck and make soft reset or turn off and on your device.
There will be created a new file with the same name and you can delete the old renamed one. Then the GPS working properly as well as VoIP.

[Q] gps not compatible?

I have an x1i running windows mobile 6.5 Energy rom (build 2308.1.5.30)
and it contains radio 1.14.25.55.
I bought it this way, but the problem is that the GPS sensor does not work. I have tried the usual programs to activate it, but no signal whatsoever in any of the programs (Chart CrossGPS test, GPS scanner, GPS reset, HTC GPSTool). Is the ROM or radio incompatible with the GPS hardware? Or is there a way to test if the hardware itself is not working.
I like the phone a lot (now), even though I am a Mac person. Flashing a new ROM would be a big deal with a Mac. Plus I have set up the phone very nicely now. Hoping for an easy way out. GPS is not a huge deal for me but it keeps nagging.
check control panel setting: let windows managed automatically enable
check registry: \HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
isenable : 1.
check if using gpsmod driver : com4 enable.
hope thats help.
In the external GPS control panel, I enable the Manage GPS automatically
Also the settings on the registry is as you recommended
I do not have gpsmod.
so far no luck
You can flash a new radio and will be able to keep your settings, contacts, messages, etc. If you have trouble flashing with a Mac, you can easily flash via SD.
Try out the different radios available here in XDA. I went from 1.14 to 1.16 a year ago, got a HUGE boost in reception and battery life, but had to flash to the unofficial 1.17 since GPS did not work in 1.16 for me.
Thanks, I will try this.
Tried the radio 1.17. Flashing is indeed straightforward via SD card. Unfortunately the GPS did not work. I then changed the whole system by flashing the 826x series rom, as recommended here recently in the Q and A section. Great ROM, even better than the one I used. Still no GPS, so I concluded that it is a hardware issue. Then used an external GPS and finally got it to work after changing some registry data, because the 'external gps' settings on the phone would not save a com port for the external device, as others had also experienced. Used the two links below and finally deduced a solution from that as written below the links. (I could not use the exact solution from the link, since the registry item referring to the external device was named differently) Freedom Keychain GPS 2000 is the external device I use, really cheap (19 euro) and lasts up to 10 hours and is really small (considering the battery use of X1 not a bad solution).
the links:
sorry as new user I am not allowed to post the links
the changes in the registry:
1. [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers]
"CurrentDriver"=" GPSOnePort
2. [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOnePort]
"CommPort"="COMX:" where X = the hardware COM port (for me COM0)
"InterfaceType"="COMM"
