Its just sinking in for me.. im kind of bummed about it.

No.. I absolutely detest the iPhone.
I already have my diamond, but tonight (as I put loads of music on my device) ive been thinking about it more and more... why didnt HTC put at least 8GB in it or add a Micro SD slot.
Other than that, I absolutely adore my diamond. Its a fantastic device and a great upgrade to my HTC Touch.
The whole 'mine is bigger than yours' thing doesn't bother me.
It's a phone, not an entertainment system for me.
I always carry a usb drive and am rarely far from a real pc.
When I ordered it I hadn't noticed the lack of card slot and I've only ever had a 2gig card in my previous smartphones. Maybe I just don't understand the concern to have so much on a media player but then again I did used to buy C120 tapes for my walkman

I cant remember the exact figure but it would add several mm to the device to put in a MicroSD slot so that's the main reason they didnt. There may also be power savings and speed improvements but i beleive the size issue was the most important.

I'm syncing my diamond to my iMac(itunes) using missing sync, so I'm not really sure whether this is possible using media player on windows, haven't been using windows for years so I have no idea as to it's playlist capabilities...
I've got two playlists that I'm syncing (everytime my diamond connects, basically every night) the first one I add music to as I please (songs I have to actually add to the playlist)... The second however consists of songs played less than three times... I have a pretty large library and my diamond pretty much always have music on it that I'm not tired of, hence I find the 4Gb quite sufficient. This is also available for videos, or video podcasts (if you use your diamond as a video player)
They'll comeout with one with more memory, until then, go to www.modmyifone.com:)

I absolutely agree. Everyone knows that the Diamond has 4Gb and is not expandable. Pretty pathetic really if they buy it and then realise they want more space.
I have stored 100+ pics, 15 hours of music and installed all programs in the internal storage - and I still have 2,4 GB free.

Not really. Its like anything else, you buy it thinking it'll be fine - its only when the space runs out that you realise you want more.
And no - dont go suggesting the iphone as an alternative, to me its a compromise. I want a kick ass Windows Mobile device. The diamond is damn near perfect apart from the storage issue. Curious HTC went this route as
1) Flash memory is very cheap. Hardly any cost difference between 4GB and 8GB
2)A Micro SD slot will not impact size that much
Do any of you think there will be any third party solutions (adaptors of some sort?)

The forum is for trying to solve a problem and sharing information.
Moaning - perhaps understandable to a certain limit.
Now, you know there is nothing you (or anyone else can do) about the 4 GB internal sotrage that you got with your phone.
If there is a new version of the diamond, with more memory or an external card slot.. someone will definitely share that info.
Unless that's what you were doing, I don't think that moaning is going to get you anywhere or achieve anything.
An exercise in futility.
If you just want to share your opinion, there are plenty of places where you can do so.
Doing it on a forum where people are looking for solutions, not exactly the best approach.
Just my view

I wont be dictated to about what I can or cannot talk about.

two months from now, when the shinny'ness wares off, you'll miss your pocket pc/smartphone
to hiimclif:
My brother bought an iphone today and was previously using a cingular 8125 and the iphone is so far above the technology of anything i have ever used. Don't get me wrong im sure its not a good comparison of the two phones. But within just the 10 minutes i was able to play with it i truely found it to be far supperior to any current ppc/smartphone. The design and layout is so much more fluent then windows its rediculous. im sure your much more knowledgable about everything, but as a normal user and not a hardcore junkie about everything i would never see myself going back to my cingular 8125. And im not biased towards anything i havent owned an apple product in my life but i can truely say this is an amazing piece of technology that blows The HTCtouch and what i believe just about everything else out of the water
lol Thats cuz you had a 8125.. Get a Hermes and tell me how much you would never go back to PPC. .
I don't have any plans to drop my Athena.

Hey, can you tell me about the hermes. you are talking about the 8525 right?
Is the processor 400mhz a big difference to the 8125, 200mhz.
Is it also USB 2.0 transfer. I really hate the 8125's slow usb 1.0 transfer. Have to take my card out of the phone and use a seperate reader to transfer my moviez and songs.
btw, any sim unlocker avail for this iphone ?

Does a hell of a lot more stuff than my old dialphone does. At what point does a phone become smart? Email? Contacts? Address book you can edit? Internet access? VPN and webapps? Desktop-derived operating system?
SDK doesn't make the device a smartphone. You couldn't run anything on the UK-Market Three A925, unless Three published it - sure, you could get a Symbian SDK from somewhere for UIQ, but Three didn't make it "legal" or "easy" to get UIQ apps onto the device.
I think most people will agree the existence of an SDK doesn't not define a define as a smartphone.
I read somewhere the lack of 3G is actually due to the Qualcomm chip injunction. Wonder if there's a grain of truth in that...
Phone becomes smart when you can develop & install native third-party applications for it, that blends unlimited functionality of personal computer into phone platform.
Otherwise its just an ordinary phone - every phone have an OS and set of default applications inside, some very rich, hovewer these are not smartphones.
Btw, there is no probs in getting devkits for UIQ. Currently the main hassle is mandatory signing, but its still not closed platform. IPhone is.

I think what he meant was the iPhone doesn't have a REMOVABLE SIM card. There isn't a way to access it (although I'm sure you could if you pulled the phone apart) because the battery also ISN'T removeable along with there being no back cover. This phone is just one big 'thing'.

Ok Guys, some real facts regarding my Iphone:
-of course there is a SIM Card. (cames with a blank sim card to activate via Itunes)
-Yes it's a smartphone, Why? Because you can install and unistall widgets applications (just like Mac OS widgets)
-Do not record VIDEOS (So youtube it's only to vivew some videos) maybe next firmware update will enable the camera to record
At this moment I'm trying to hack the device and Itunes to unlock my device, Do you guy know any other forum ? maybe like iphone-developers... I will post my review at

A lot of ordinary phones allow to install java applets, hovewer it does not make them smartphones.
As with iPhone widgets these are not true native applications, as they run in "sandboxed" environment and do not have the full access to phone hardware and OS features.
Apple declared already that they *maybe* will consider "opening" the iPhone and making it a true smartphone, but they said that "we will need to sort out security issues first".
ok, i've already signed the drivers perition for the kaiser on his forum but there is something that i do not understand. say htc does agre to give us the drivers, wont this be a hardware change or will it be a software on. if hardware thing then how wil they pull back all of the already sold kaisers? if it's a software change, cam' somebody here cook a rom that will get the drivers working? watching vids on the tilt isn't the greatest so can somebody please explain this to me. thanks

Drivers are a set of instructions for the hardware...
In short:
Software
Well to explain it a little bit, the problem on the actual firmware/drivers is, that they aren't optimized enough for the video performance stuff... so they want htc to work on the drivers for that stuff, to use the full capacity of the current internal hardware!
So the hardware it self is good and has the capacity for improvements, but the htc frimware/drivers are not able to use it.
So if HTC works on the driver they can get a lot more power/performance out of the current hardware
Imagine someone selling computer chips without telling anyone how to use them. Chips need to receive a specific set of instructions and provide a specific set of results.
We are not mad that HTC sold us a device that is missing a chip, we are mad that HTC sold us a chip that doesn't fully function. They have sold us an engine without the timing computer and are telling us we should push our cars everywhere.

I'm so over this whole "HTC owes me", and so on... At the end of the day, it plays back videos. Not as well as it could, agreed - But it plays them. This is not the PRIMARY function of the device - please stop comparing it to the cars engine. Keep it in perspective... I'd say this function is more comparable it to say a cars factory stereo system.
HTC didn't sell you a video player, they sold you a phone, that also has HEAPS of other functions, video playback being ONE of them. So many things about the phone are great, but that doesn't seem to matter apparantly.
The Kaiser is a huge improvement in many ways over the Hermes, so I think it's a fantastic product

Well, they can't cook in software drivers that don't exist yet.
Maybe when a product that uses the same chip that also has the proper drivers comes out.
Now I agree with the poster that says it's not a big deal, it is a phone after all. But if we can get it implemented even better. I wouldn't go crazy over it, but there nothing wrong with keeping the manufacturers honest so they give us the best product possible.

Sorry mate, but even when compared with a car stereo the lack of proper drivers is a major issue.
Imagine buying a new BMW E92 as an upgrade from E46, with a Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony/Altec Lansing/Sehnheiser speaker system installed and wired to a... TAPEDECK, which also happens to be out of sync with the cassete and does not have enough power to drive the speakers, at all, and I'm talking about whisper-level volume. Sure, it gets you around and looks bling-y and has a bundled GPS and audio playback is not a primary feature of a car, but for some reason your old E46 and your neighbours Toyota Corolla does a better job at it (not to mention that it runs longer on one gas refill).
You paid a big wad of cash for a device advertised and priced as "ultimate", yet it lacks a feature you got used to having on your previous one and the manufacturer doesnt even have the decency to admit its mistake, dont you think you have every bit of a reason to be mad at them?

I see your point and I don't feel HTC owes me anything. HTC should at least, deliver on what they advertise.
My 1st generation Kaiser aka Tmobile MDA played back video without any stutters. I would expect that a successor device developed two hardware cycles later work better than it's little brother.

And thats quite simply just one small disappointing factor in the device.
Myself, instead of petitioning and whatever other nonsense, put it down to an aspect of the device that wasn't as good this time around. Another disappointing factor is the so-and-so quality of the 3 MP camera. About half of the photos I have shot with my TyTN II have turned out worse than what I got from my old i-mate JASJAM. Auto focus seems to be missing often on landscape shots and has difficulties with infinity:
(Click on image for full size photo.)
Compare the above TyTN II photo with the JASJAM photo I posted here.
Plus that the photo quality looks like 2 MP photos interpolated up to 3 MP size. So I usually keep the camera set to 2 MP :-(
(Apologies for side-tracking the topic of this thread.)
Overall I would say though that I am fairly satisfied but I doubt that my next smartphone will be anything produced by HTC.

Cool, like I say... next time you may decide not buy HTC - thats the price a company can pay if you don't like their product. Doesn't mean that they are obligated to do anything for you now... At the end of the day, their product does what they said it would - even if it's not to the standard of some of these users...
what are the chances that we will get these drivers? high or low? will it be a whole new rom? maybe windows6.1 or just 6? If they're thinking of 6.1 then we probably wont get these drivers till mid next year. photon will almost be out by then. any chances we get them before the end of the year or no?

Is it me or do these devices get boring after awhile? I'm thinking about intentionally bricking my Tilt and restoring it just so I have something to do with it. Pretty pathetic I know. Nothing new or innovative has been released for it yet.
Haha, this wasn't quite the thread I was expecting, thank God. But I think this happens with all phones. I thought the Tilt was the coolest thing ever and now that I have had it for a couple months I'm kind of bored with it. I felt the same way about the iPhone and the Blackberries that I have had too though, so I don't think you can really specify that it is HTC devices. It is kind of the reason for innovation, people get bored with things faster and faster these days.

And of course it's gotta fit in my [email protected] least in the cargo pants pocket size
I know its gunna be a while....but how long u guys think?
5 years for my true do it all perfect device? I guess I'll have to wait - but Id quickly drop 2-3 grand on it today....if only it existed.
(does Microsoft want this device to exist today? is there a purpose for windows mobile when this device comes out? Is microsoft the reason for the "seperation" of the 2 OS's of the htc shift? why can't they communicate between each other fluently? why cant I make a traditional (non skype) phone call on the xp side of this device? - The everun seems to be able to do it though. - I know the technology is not quite yet here to get all these features in a pocketable device - but were soooooooo close it seems)
/dreaming of running cubase (music production software)/photoshop/etc. etc. @ work instead of just attempting to read engadget on a wannabe browser (my current fav is skyfire or opera.....but both leave me wanting more) on my pocketable (tilt) "do it all" device
/dreams and crazy glues an oqo to the back of my att tilt and puts a car battery in my backpack
Ok guys i have an iphone 4 and i'm thinking of getting a HD7 have any of you done that and regretted it? or thought is was the best move ever? i'm on the verge of making the move but obviously it is alot of money if it isn't right...My girlfriend has just got one and i like it..but obviously it isn't mine!!!...

No, it's a guide to help you help you migrate. Should you decide that's what you want to do.
yes and i appericiate that thanks...i just wondered if anyone has made the move...i'm stuck whether to keep the phone or not..
Nearly there...
I'm a iPhone 4 32Gb owner since June launch day with a HTC HD7 on it's way to me in the next few days or week (all depending on USPS First Class International Mail!). Once I get it, I will upgrade it with a SanDisk 32GB Class 2 with help with another thread here.
I'm looking forward to the HTC HD7 and I know deep down there will be some things that will niggle me about WP7... however, I just want to have decent notification which WP7 has! Jailbreaking the iPhone has been easy (but the present jailbreak is 'teathered'- urgh!).
I've been using 'Notify Pro' which has been a pain on the iPhone. To be honest, I thought why am I wasting my time with this buggy third party app from Cydia to get something which should be standard in the first place. I'm also impressed how it has so far integrated FaceBook in WP7, but Twitter needs some tweaking I hear.
I most probably miss the 'iPod ecosystem' (docks and car ICE) but hoping the WP7 UI will wow me and the screen size does look great for browsing the Internet and watching media (Use to have a HTC HD2 and loved the screen but not the constant rebooting!).
I'm planning to keep the iPhone 4 and HD7 for a few months... perhaps, Microsoft's upgrade in January might swing it for me finally!

I have had both
they are both excellent
the HD7 has a superior user interface, in that you can switch between a tiled status screen and a list of icons. Its also slicker and cooler (whatever that means )
the larger screen is great. the web browser is slightly slower but it can render some things the iphone browser can't, e.g. go to unlocking.com and try the drop-downs on the iphone ..... I will also be able to do flash at some point, something apple has vowed not to do
its drawbacks are that the app storee has some fun stuff but its small compared to apple. The biggest thing about the WM7 user interface, the active tiles, need to be expanded more. i would like something "HTC sense" like. Obviously we are also waiting for cut & paste in the Jan firmware release.
There is apossibility of expanding the HD7's memory manually as well, as its actually an embedded MicroSD card which many folk have already taken out and replaced with a 32gb one.
thanks alexander for your insight..its just i have had an iphone since 3g, 3gs, 4 and suddenly i thought i need a change i also have had hd2 which i loved..but because of the bugs it had to go..i also have 32gb iphone 4 but one thing is bothering me is "you don't know what you have got until it has gone" i think i will have another go tonight

it depends on the person. the iphone is more compact and more beautiful (although the HT7 is also very nice).
you first need to decide whether you are comfortable with the size of the device.
also, have you purchased many iphone apps ? you might have "buyer remorse" letting these go
i personally continue to use both. I get bored of the iphone very quickly, then the HD7 is more fun. But then I miss my apps so go back to the iphone for a bit ....
If you have no app investment then definitely try out the HD7
Hello,
I have both and to be honest, I don't know which one to advice..... ;-))
Both are great in differents ways, iPhone is iPhone and I have had one since the first model. I have had plenty of Windows mobile device about 15, I guess.
Now, WP7 looks great, integration with Facebook and of course Xbox live...this is THE point.
I love having my Xbox live account with me all the time, having success on my phone when away from home....
On an other side, I'm so used to my iPhone, I have plenty of softwares I know and I like very much....
So, I decieded to keep both for the moment with 2 SIM cards, like this I have the best from both....
To be honest I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab as well and it's so great....
So the best, if you have enought money, is to have one of each... ;-))
Regards,
I went from iPhone 3G S to the HTC HD7 (T-Mobile branded). There's not much I'm missing. Maybe tethering but I'm sure that will soon be fixed. I like not having to convert anymore of my music. I can load the CD and burn it to hard drive and I can play it straight away on the phone. I don't have to convert it to Apple format to make it portable. I like that I can swap the battery too. Couldn't do that with iPhone. There's a few other nuances but that will happen with anything new. That's only one perspective though. Keep watching for the suggestions and feedback.
I have both the iPhone 4 (haven't sold yet) and the HD7 (just got).
I feel like the operating system on the HD7 is so much better than iOS, but that is going to be personal preference, varying with what people want to do, how techy they are, etc.
As far as the actual phones go, I love the HD7. It's not a retina display, but the size is fantastic and colors vibrant.
Honestly, the only things I miss from my iPhone are jailbreak apps. The new windows OS has already been hacked, so it's only a matter of time until I have them again

Hi everyone!
do anyone of you know if the Optimus Speed Supports SDXC? (or any Bigger memory cards than 32 Gigs?) Officially, LG said, i believe, it Supports only 32Gigs, however, i`ve read somewhere, that the only Difference between SDHC and SDXC is that SDXC uses the "exFAT" Filesystem! Hardware-wise, even a "old" SD 1.0 reader should be able to read both, SDHC and SDXC its just the right drivers u need... so do anyone of you know, if Android supports the exFAT Filesystem? if android Supports it, i believe so, Android should be able to read/write the Big Cards?
sorry for my horrible english by the way ...
Does really nobody know something Memory is a really important thing for me...

I would also like to know if anyone could try out a 64 GB sdxc card in a o2x.
I have the phone on order, and this would be a serious plus, especially since the phone otherwise will only accept up to 40 gb (8gb + 32gb sdhc card ;-o )

your wrong lol
the Phone does accept 40 Gigs, However, u can unly use like 35 Gigs or sumthing for your own Data, wich is... hmmm not that much! (5,5GB internal SD+32GB SDHC <-- 30 GB useable!)
EDIT: what would i do with so much space? well, currently the 35 gigs that the Phone offers WOULD BE ENOUGH BY FAR for me! but if im going to buy this Phone, i think im gonna own it for like 3 Years or Something! ...and after some time i might need more Space! (my Music Collection is growing all the time!) and a little bit of... hm how you call it? "Future Proofness"... maybe? anyway, that wouldnt be bad...
EDIT Nr.2: @ altemirx no, i don't lol ... as i said previously, i want... how i should call it? "Future Proofness"

35 Gigs of usable memory is ok, but i could easily fill that with pics, music and a few videos... Times are a changing... ;-o
Also, if I get the o2x, i doubt it will last me more that 1 1/2 - 2 years max... Unlike my good old nokia 9500 communicator... I miss the full querty on it... RIP!

These cards are confirmed working in several Android's now:
http://www.androidnz.net/2011/09/sandisk-64gb-micro-sdxc-cards-confirmed.html
Am guessing that all that is needed for using an SDXC card, is just a driver. As simple as that.
I remember like 5-6 years ago i used to have a pocked pc and it was when SDHC standards arrived, and by just installing a 2kb file or smthn, they were completely usable on any old Device. So am guessing the same thing applies here...
I could be wrong of course : )

This is true. There is technically no difference between between the SDHC and SDXC-cards, just the size. You need a file-system which supports >32GB-cards. (I have a transformer, which has built-in support for NTFS, and will happily accept SDXC-cards larger than 32GB provided it's formatted with NTFS.)
I haven't tested if any ROM for the O2X can mount SD-cards with anything else than FAT, but it's easy enough to test I guess. Just format a(ny) card with ext2/3 and insert it. If it's recognized it should be possible to use cards >32GB.
Did neither of you guys see my post? These are working in Android devices, no special drivers needed. I don't think anyone has tried in a 2x specifically, but I would be surprised if they didn't work.
