Hi,
which mediaplayer is best for the diamond, or in other words, which support the video accelerator chip (QTv ?). Today I installed Nero Media Player Pro, but it either failed to render TV-Rips (std.~350mb only 1-2sec playback) or very chunky playback of 320h mov files/trailers. Obviously no support of the QTv here.

well sheer power wise, TCPMP is the best media player for any mobile platform but i doubt that it supports the accelerometer and the interface isn't exaclty finer freindly.
Try coreplayer
I've been using coreplayer as well... works great, no conversion needed really... pretty much plays everything...
I'd agree that TCPMP is best for me
I have found that running movies through PocketDivXEncoder first improves the view. I need to test the settings a bit more but video quality between 14 and 20 at full resolution looks great so far (audio 6 or 7)
thanks for your recommendations, will try them.
does any of those support upnp ? like to stream some videofiles from my nas box. therefore reencoding first to divx isn't really an option for me..
btw. while playing around with mediaplayers and wifi today, I burned the battery within TWO hours
Yeah. CorePlayer FTW! I hate TCPMP. CorePlayer is the best media player (video wise). Totally worth paying for. I'd suggest Conduit's Pocket Player for audio files or S2P.
Kraize
I got Core player and at first before i had the Elite 2.0 ROM it was playing really bad.
Now, For example, i have the last 2 episodes of the latest Doctor Who Series on my diamond and it plays them ReallY well. Its in Sync and its top quality video. I love the VGA screen!!
NOT: These are Xvids that are 500-600MB each so they havent been re-encoded
Hum I have bought coreplayer 1.2.5, if I see a film with the diamond native resolution, it is very slow. Is it normal ?
No problem with the resolution 240*320 but we have a very beautiful screen I would like to see my film on 480*640
Have a full avi rip here of a anime series and TCMP is really crap, it lags, choppy playbacks and freezes then plays. I really dont know how you guys are using it. I am using elite 3.0 and i did try it also on standard manufactures it was the same.

Which version and what settings of Core Player are you using ?
The resolution of the videos is more or less 640x480 ?
I tried like Diagorn the Core Player 1.2.5 and a lot of settings, but on my diamond high quality videos are really slow (the sound is ok, but images is like slideshow)
@yodjar
that is exactly what is happening to me the file itself is around 170mb and its about 22 mins long. Plays beutiful using my p.c and my universal (xda exec) and any other p.c with anything that can play the avi. Please post a solution here if you find one people who seem to have it working dont seem to say how it works it just does.
Nobody ?
I can't understand why this thing doesn't interest ppl more...
I have problems to see some videos
First Sorry for my english I am using a Traslatos then I correct it.
I had moved my videos that I have in my old Eten X800 to the Diamond, most of them can not see but heard, including some filmed with a Photograph camera or with the Eten. That may be happening? I am using the CorePlayer but the same thing happens with some in the Window Media Player 1.2.1 for Arm, with the same Core Player I can see the videos in the Eten.
Thanks Carlos
Player
Yes, Core player is better than TCPMP player I think since I told some videos using y canon ixus 60 and it wouldn't play on the window media player and on TCPMp is jerky but core player is very smooth.

There's a separate thread somewhere about supporting the Qtv chip on the Diamond - have a search if I don't find it before you.

I second that Especially the new Zune is really nice. You can connect via your router to sync your music. I just hate the zune syncing software it's such a pain in the ass. I wish we could sync with WMP. I mean come on seriously.
Pocket Divx encoder
I had the same problem with my touch. TCPMP would not play large video's .avi even though it supports it. I used Pocket Divx Encoder to reduce the .avi according to my screen size and now I can watch any .avi without any problems and the audio and picture is still incredibly clear. I max out video and audio quality still with no problems during playback.
Pocket Divx Encoder is free
Hope this works for you and enjoy your video's
I use CorePlayer (based on TCPMP ) to play my Divx files (700 to 900 Mo each resolution 660*360, datarate 1010kbps) without any specific Mobile transcoding and it plays quite well with the right settings, with some rare glitches (but i guess it will never work flawlessly until we have the real Kaiser drivers).
TCPMP is good, but Coreplayer is faster on the Kaiser from my own experience.
The only down side about Coreplayer (aside from the fact its not freeware) is that it cannot play AC3 sound unlike TCPMP (due to open source licence)
why i dont understand it...when i had my standard att WM 6.0 rom that came with my tilt...i watched avis and mpeg4//divx movies CRYSTAL CLEAR....and thatt was with no htc ca driver or none of that ****. And now ive upgraded to WM 6.1..first duttys hybrid then L26 and now garmins...and each rom has the same problem...old tcpmps crash and when i use the repack tcpmp app and it works....i have SLUGGISH and chopppy fps when i watch avi movies and mpeg stufff. How is this possible with all the new drivers and such....it was crystal clear to watch movies with WM 6.0..but with 6.1 its choppy and ****ty playback? has anybody found a better fix for this other then converting the movies to sccreen resolution?
have lookedeverywhere for pocket divx encoder but unable to d/l it can anyone post please?
Try xvid4psp. It's free, fast and has enough options. I use MP4 iPod 5.0G settings for Kaiser.
thanks will give it a shot

Sorry, my previous post was meant to be reply to felixthecat.
So, to make things clear:
- XviD4PSP is not media player for PPC.
- XviD4PSP is software for converting videos. You can find it here.
- MP4 iPod 5.0G is just one of the format settings in Xvid4PSP.

I use Core Player for videos. Videos converted with XviD4PSP using my settings does not play well in WM player. You can try it with some other settings.
Here are my current settings:
- Format: MP4 iPod 5.0G
- Denoise/Sharpen: Disabled
- Brightness/Contrast: Disabled
- Video encoding: XviD HQ Ultra
- Audio encoding: AAC-LC ABR 128
I don't know what you mean with "bigger vids", but I use it for converting my divx/xvid movies and shows to MP4 and it works well. I think it supports even DVD files, but i didn't try that.
Last time i checked it took 6 minutes to convert some 30 minutes divx show to MP4 (Athlon X2 4000+, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800GT).
One more thing about Core Player
Core Player with default setup gives me audio out of sync. But you can adjust that in options.
i tried those settings and didn't get a good result
works now i have upgraded coreplayer ... thanks alot

I use it also. I watch moives on my phone and it works fine playing full screen and BT stereo.
try the new win 6.1 that att put out for the tilt... it might be more stable since it is the new shipping rom
i know the Diamond is positioned as a multi media phone, but every video/movie file i play on it is very jerky. From cartoons (southpark) to music videos and converted movies, they all play like crap. is there a way to improve the performance of video playback?
What player are you using?
I use CorePlayer. It plays perfectly smoothly. (both AVI's and H.264 mp4's)
I've just been using the stock player
Use CorePlayer.
When people ask a question, they put a question mark at the end.
so no free solutions/players to solve this issue, eh? Wasn't planning on spending $20 for a media player.
You can try TCPMP (the seed of CorePlayer). It´s not as much optimized but it´s much better than the Windows Media Player, and plays much more formats.
Search the forum for "TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB". The standard version of TCPMP doesn't run in WM6.1, but this one does and includes the more common plugins (MP4, AC3, etc...).
Good luck.
I got some nasty vsynch issues when playin back AVIs using Coreplayer, both in Directdraw and GDI modes. I convert AVIs to 320x240 using SPB DVD, because native resolution (DVD format for the most) is quite sluggy. In 320x240 it's perfectly smooth, except those v-synch issues. Do you have the same issue ?

I rendered to 320x240 also using tcpmp it plays smoothly, but only uses a small part of the screen. switching to fullscreen or zoom -> framelags about 20! secs. very disgusting. This Phone seems NOT to be a multimediaPhone
I'm using TCMP, think i use GDI mode.
No Vsync issues, no problems. 90% of media files work perfect (avi, divx, etc)
http://www.diemetrix.net/diemetrix/TCPMPforWM6.CAB
yes but in what quality and bitrate
edit: now thats weird I tried play same movie 640 x 364 avi and benchmark:
coreplayer QTv mode high quality 96%
TCPMP RAW dither on 99% so where is problem with QTv support??? Yeah and there is with GDI and also RAW discusting vsync issue
anyone know if its better xvid or divx in case of performance???
hi i have a diamond and i need .avi codes for the windows media player because thats the only way the movies i watch acclerated by the hardware!!! no tcpmp no coreplayer works good enough for me!!!
SO plz if sum one can find them or make them for that matter , all of us with diamonds and HD's will be very happy!!!
ive already searched the forums and no results!!!
Coreplayer plays my movies better than WMP. If you use version 1.3 there's a QTv Display video output mode. Works really good, sharp and flawless video's!!!

i am aware of that.... but i have come to know that WMP/HTC ALBUM can use the inbuilt graphics Accelerator to play the video file .... hence i tested that with .mp4 files!!!! and it worked amazing.... n the same file would not play properly on coreplayer sine there was no accleration, which made me think that if WMP cud play .avi files i woud have even more smooth video quality as coreplayer..... hence i made the post!!!!
It does sounds interesting though, because I prefer using my WMP to play multimedia files. I already use it as a MP3 player, but because WMP can't play avi's I had to use CorePlayer...
Guys i recently installed coreplayer for xperia. The issue i faced is the video playback is not upto the mark. Its kinda jerky and stops skips videos in between and not smooth.
Has anyone faced this issue with X1 by the way my friend has omnia and the same verison of coreplayer installed on his cell but the video playback is perfect without any skips.
same here...bought x1 5 days ago tried everything and that piece of crap doesnt work same as coreplayer :/ i downloaded the Video...Encoding...GUI_Full.HD stuff which converts video...converted one but the movie on X1 doesnt look like a movie !! it looks like a slideshow but guess what windows media player plays this video Perfectly...written by the big P so im asking wtf ??
the X1 does have some performance issues. this has been discussed several times in the past
the omnia performs a lot better because it has a much faster CPU and because the resolution is 1/4th of that of the xperia so it does not need to work as hard to get smooth playback
core player doesnt support x1 hardware acceleration... thats the main problem there
ok ok but what to do ? im playing aroung with it from the day i bought it and nothing that i tried helped and im a bit frustrated :/ i dont wanna use wmp
Maybe you should get an IPhooon its click and play no hussle and stuff no need to tweak and every thing works (well every thing that comes with it)
install custom rom... gfx booster... convert videos with tool posted here on forums and play them in media panel... no lag at all...
Media panel and converted movies is best solution. And no, you don't need custom rom.
Crystal player is just useless. Yeah, it's sad.
well thats wierd, i play 700mb highres avi files on coreplayer without any problem, maybe its the videos you try to play..? i only face lagging with flv files.
btw i have stock uk r3aa010
I found that some people find 80% speed 'perfect'. I can spot single dropped frame.
Run benchmark a post the results, subjective value is meaningless.
And yes, of course, it does depend on the movie. I play most of the 700mb movies under 90%.
i have not had any problems with coreplayer either....
The movie i am playing is in mkv format and around 500megs in size

Me neither. 80% is what I usually get as speed with 1.3.2. Btw this DVD-Rip may be some small resolution, like 640x272.
I just don't get it, such a good phone with such a lousy movie playing capabilities.
OK... here's the facts.
It's all about perception. Some individuals can watch a movie that displays at 24fps (frames per second, which is the standard) and see a perfectly smooth movie. The brains fills in the gaps between each image and creates the illusion of full motion.
Some lucky individuals can look at a movie playing at 20fps and still see a smooth movie while most of us will perceive it as jerky.
Some unlucky individuals (myself included) find anything less than 30 fps to be jerky.
And finally. Coreplayer + xvid files do not use the acceleration feature of the chipset hence the standard *cough* downloaded tv show will usually be and 624 x 352 with a 912Kbps bit rate (These are average stats)
Will run at about 80%-85% framerate on your X1 giving you a fps of about 20fps.
If you reenconde using the sticky programme GUI you can play the same file at 100% USING ONLY WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER/MEDIAL PANEL!!! (coreplayer will still run it at 85% ish)
Yes .. I just want those people who can watch movies at 80% to realize how lucky they are
Well, there has been so many threads on this subject...
I don't see where the problem is to use Windows Media Player to watch a movie, it's just perfect. Files that cannot be opened by WMP (like flv for example) can be opened with CorePlayer, that's nice.
I don't want to hurt anybody, but maybe people whose mind totally deny this very simple concept should may be go to see a psy We have the right tools, they work perfectly, so why do you want to re-invent the wheel ?
Well most people want to watch AVI movies .. and those are not watchable in WMP and jerky in CorePlayer. If you don't want to watch them, good for you.
This is a great place!
I have been reading all the threads that might have anything to do with video playback.
I've installed those 3D drivers and graphics were improved on that hologram thing and "light 3d"
Still, video playback is choppy and im grinding my teeth seeing it!
I have converted videos in all kinds of formats in all kids of FPS and KBPS and kept VGA resolution and still no use.
Have i missed something?
thanks!!
what media player are you using dude? ive been using TCMP for the longest time and i have no problems on playing my videos/movies...
i tried using the built in windows media player, coreplayer, and i have used tcpmp once but the bottom taskbar was black so i didnt know what problem that program had.
anyways, the tcpmp didnt play smooth. maybe i had a bad version?
Have you tried viewing some other content other than your own converted files? try using the attached sample avi with all 3 players and see how that goes.
ive tried the videos that came with the phone.
windows media player handles videos much better than coreplayer but still no smooth video.
this is weird, on other ppc's that ive had (a few) coreplayer/tcpmp played videos much better than wmp.
over here its the exact opposite.
how come?
what ROM are you using?
original ROM that came with the diamond.
in my case its 2.o3
israel orange
help? anyone?
I don't know anyone here who is on the same ROM. you could try upgrading the ROM??
what ROM should i use?
can i extract the hebrew that comes with the ROM currently on my diamond?
i kinda need it
well of course that the built in WMP will play the video smoother than the core player. It`s because only WMP can use the hardware accelerator in the phone.
still the core player don`t have the proper drivers to access to the GPU.
ya it plays smoother, but still not smooth.
and theres all this tearing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-481714.html
make sure you use qtv
With TCPMP set Video to GDI.
i installed tcpmp and when i ran it it came up with a message "crashed"
and it won't run.
i used Qtv with the coreplayer and it was still slugish
Be sure you use the version on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519543&highlight=TCPMP
It works great on my Diamond.
Ive installed a tcpmp from another thread from this forum.
It works and plays videos but its still slugish.
Is there a patch or a fix i was supposed to install?
Smooth video playback
Hi all,
I was having problems with jerky video playback.
I did some searching and found this link-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
It works a treat really smooth and in 640 480
WELL DONE
I saw this too...
It doesn't play smooth on my device.
still, this is the program i use to convert video if i wanna play something on my diamond
even tho it stinks (the diamond not the program!)
Hi idandavid,
PM me your email and I will send you a mov video of my Diamond playing a smooth video.
Or send me a video, I will conver it and try playing it on my Diamond. I can then send you the converted file to compare on your Diamond.
Hope this helps
