HTC released flat-back version of Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_p3702_touch_diamond_available_–__no_diamondback_this_time-news-548.php
Anyone see this? Looks pretty. I hope that the fascia/housing is interchangable b/w the two devices. I prefer the 'curvier' look

This is T-Mobiles branded Diamond.......!!!!

Yes it is similar but HTC are going to be releasing this not only exclusive to T-Mobile. It's going to be the P3702 (where the original Diamond is the P3700) and seems to have only 128MB of RAM as oppose to the 192MB in the original Diamond.

That seems weird, the Tmob version has 192mb of ram

Yes it is strange but this is going based off the article written by gsmarena - and they are a trusty source.

That's not true, see images on http://smartmania.mobilmania.cz/index.php?ind=news&op=news_show_single&ide=1038

i think this could probaply be only a pre production version of the diamond...

http://www.slashphone.com/htc-p3702-victor-unboxing-photo-gallery-13880
Confirmed that it is not a pre-production version of the Diamond and it IS to be sold in retail stores in Taiwan. As stated, there is only 128MB of RAM which is a let-down.

S730 still not supported by HTC?

Does anyone find it odd that the S730 is still not listed on HTC's website under Support? The Touch Cruise, which has not been released yet, is supported.

LOL. You have the Orbit 2, right? Different software than the HTC Touch Cruise, I believe.?
It is in Europe
http://www.europe.htc.com/en/htcs730/support/
So S730 is available in the US?
Must be only in Europe. On HTC.com, it is listed, but not supported. HTC also has a separate website for the US...HTCAmerica I believe. But that is only for US mobile company branded phone support.

I have one in Boston. I bought it from Mobile Planet, which is the U.S. branch/affiliate of Expansys. HTC sells it for a bit more through www.htcphonestore.com.

Who's Bought Official Diamond In India??

Friends who have bought an Official Diamond from HTC outlets, please let me know which ROM version is being sold, as worry is the UK stock was supposedly witheld for a ROM update.. Are we getting updated ROM or not??
Also mention the RAM and ROM reads from Indian versions..
look at the diamond rom section here. There are 1.34 and 1.35 rom updates posted. The latest rom anyone has seems to be 1.37 - i expect it will be posted soon.
Thanks someone1234, but i raised the question because the Indian Version is going to be different - Non 3G version, hence the ROM versions may be different...
Hey does it mean no one's as yet bought a diamond in India???
Is official sale in India started or not???
safe to say that...
ppl that claim they have bought have yet to respond and claim from where and source...
so probably no one has it yet
Diamond In India ! Yipee !
I got the diamond yesterday in India for 35k that is about 900USD. It is not official, does not come with a warranty. Seems like a HK version piece to me. The ROM version is 1.35 WWE, Date 05/28/08 - Since I got it I have run advanced config on it and tweaked it by increasing cache size. It is noticably faster now.

from where? and what city are you in ?
The Indian Diamond is supposed to launch on the 27th of June afaik.
Its different from the EU versions, uses the MSM7206A processor with no 3G radio
HTC India
the processor on my instrument is Qualcomm 7201A and I have upgraded to ROM version 1.37 WWE. This device also has 3G, I am guessing the official indian version might not. I am located in Delhi and bought it from a dealer here.
Thats not the offical version then.
id rather have the one with 3g than without
I bought my 3G Diamond here in Delhi for 35 Grand its HK version i think and paying 25000/- for non 3g one ...i think 35000 is a good deal.
same here soulpilot, good to have 3G should be getting launched in India in the next9-12 months anyway
Guys, any other difference (other than 3G) between the processors MSM7201A (Worldwide) & MSM7206A (Indian) ??
Not as far as I know. Only difference in the Radio implementation.
One major negative in buying the 3G in India is most HTC service centers will refuse to even touch your phone if theres any problem with it due to the incompatible processors. Some might oblige but most wont. Taken my singapore HTC to the service center the other day for a panel switch and was talking to the service guys about it. He said most of the service centers wont touch any of the 3G diamonds.
i hope the cooked roms work equally well for the indian version as well.

HTC Kaiser 140

I spotted this on PDADb
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1387
It mentions a new KAISER 140 model. Anyone knows of it? I didn't find another mention.
UPDATE: It seems that it supports "UMTS1700", unlike the other models?
You can see a comparison table here:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=1387&id2=733
I think it is the Emonster model that people have previously mentioned.
Not much difference really.
This Kaiser should work on either AT&T or T-Mobile in the US. It should work in Europe as well sporting all those data bands.
I want one.
Do any AT&T insiders know if the current Tilt will be upgraded to this version of the Kaiser? It's nice to see that this new version is supporting UMTS1700 More bands, the better. It's too bad the Diamond Pro isn't supporting as many UMTS bands as the Kaiser or Hermes
Why would AT&T want to have a phone that supports a Frequency Band it doesn't use?

PDAdb still says that the Kaiser has a transflective screen. Anyone tried to use your GPS outdoors in bright sunlight?

HTC Diamond v Sprint Diamond

I'm with T-Mobile and am thinking of upgrading from my MDA Compact lll to the MDA Compact lV. On youtube, someone is demonstrating a Sprint version of the diamond which doesn't have the bevelled back to it, it has a smooth back and is thicker than the diamond.
http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=35q4g6dZdM8&feature=user
The pictures on the T-Mobile site show the same back as the sprint so it's obviously the sprint they're selling.
What are the functional differences between the two, and how much better is the MDA compact 4 from the MDA compact 3?
Has more RAM/ROM, Touch Flo works much more smoothly, no front vga camera, has bigger battery. I think that is it.

Thanks. It would help if you told me which has these things, the sprint or the non sprint?
The sprint version has those things
BUT the sprint is CDMA, and no locale of T-mobile is CDMA.

Thanks for the clarification, so the sprint is generally better than the slimmer HTC diamond is that right?
Not sure exactly what CDMA is but is this referring to 3G?
You're saying T-Mobile doesn't do 3G?
Almost all cellphone carriers are 3G. CDMA is the standard used by Sprint and Verizon (and some others), GSM is the standard used by AT&T and T-Mobile (and some others including most of the world lol).
Yes. Most of the world still uses GSM, but that doesn't make it better. GSM still uses TDMA-like technology, which severely limits it's capability. That's why you get such slow data-rates and low capacity. In fact, the newer "GSM" standards are migrating to CDMA technology (although that doesn't make it compatible with CDMA networks). I know, it's confusing.

Exactly, hopefully the rest of the world adapts to CDMA sooner rather than later. A global standard of CDMA would be nice for them and for me ;-)
Thanks. Btw, apparently the MDA Compact lV is not the sprint after all. Someone informed me that most of the carriers for some reason seem to replace the back with a smooth one. That's a pity, considering the sprint has a bigger battery life.
Does anyone know if my Artemis battery would fit into the compact lV? It's an ARTE160, 1200mAh made by Sanyo. It gives me great battery life.
Tmobile isnt selling the "sprint". T-Mobile sell the Compact IV, it is different from the Diamond by having a smooth back, different styling and is slightly lighter. There are no other differences.
T-Mobile Mda compact IV
As far as I know MDA Compact IV is exactly the same thing as HTC Diamond in terms of hardware. MDA compact IV is actually HTC Victor. (Different countries different names)
The battery is the same also, 900mAh.
The only thing people say is that there are not 192 megs of ram but 128 accessible to the system.
Actually, T-Mobile sell the HTC Victor, which is essentially the Diamond in a different case. I believe this can be purchased in Asian markets but not European ones.
I believe only O2 (in the UK) sell the Diamond (and it is the Diamond, not the Victor!) with a flat back. I know Orange sell it with the bevelled back and I 'think' Vodafone do too.

Now I'm confused, but only a bit
If the O2 Diamond has a flat back case, and the T-Mobile Victor is 'essentially' the Diamond with a flatback case, these are exactly the same phone just different names or there is some other minor differences apart from the cases? I'd not heard of the HTC Victor and cannot find anything mentioned about it on the xda-developers page which shows names and pictures of all their models.

MDA Compact IV is 128Mb RAM?

Hi,
I'm about to buy this device and i know it is a Diamond clone but i read in a lot of sites that it has only 128Mb of RAM and the Diamond has 192Mb!
Anyone with a MDA can please URGENTLY confirm this information?
got my mda compact iv the day tmobile released it, i can definatly say mine has 192mb of ram, i heard the same thing when tmobile launched it, that they where supplying a cheaper 128mb version, in the end it worked out people where getting them confused with a gray import version you could buy from hongkong which only had 128mb, dont know if tmobile have switched since but doubt it,
to answer your question anyway, my compact iv has 192mb,
.ps. flash it soon as you get it the tmobile radio and rom are ****,
oh thank you thank you!
I'm getting one from ebay and it is a original T-Mobile so i think it is not a fake...
Goddamn misinformation... And to confuse even more the hardware keys are inverted too!
So you can confirm that i can flash any of these Diamond ROMs out there?
Thanks mate!
Yes,
The only difference between the two is the outer casing and the key layout.
You can flash any ROM to the MDA Compact IV (currently running Shaks 4.20).
