Is there an app that would allow me to switch between tasks without going through Task Manager from the Start screen?
I tried installing Duttythroy's task 2.x and my AT&T Tilt complained about insufficient permission.
TIA
http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html
here you go!
its my favorite app
htc task manager
AE button plus has this feature.
HTC task manager
Is there a way to assign a button of my Tilt such that if I hold it down it will open up the task manager from any app that I am using so that I can switch to another app?
Start | Settings | Buttons - choose the button you want to change (probably Button 6??) and then select the Task Manager application from the drop list at the bottom
Mark.

Very strange. I don't see the "Task Manager" as one of applications that I can assign any button to.

you won't, it's not an app that you can assign to a button. Not sure why poster told yo to do that, they obivously didn't try it first.
another solution is the Alt+Tab task switcher that's part of PocketPlus4. I assign it to the PTT button and use it just Alt+Tab on Windows.
Wisbar Advance puts icons for your open apps in the Taskbar up top and you can switch by tapping on them.

I did try it first, but I have DotFred's Task Manager installed, so it was listed. I know realise the OP meant the HTC Task Manager (the one in the top right of the Today screen?), which won't be listed......my bad
Your best bet is to go with one of the other suggestions, or consider VITO TaskSwitcher (see here).
Hope you find one that works for you

Thanks for the suggestion. What I wanted is some simple way of assigning a button to a task manager which would allow me to jump between programs without going through the Start screen then pulling up Task Manager on the original ATT Tilt rom. I think there are a few suggestions that I will try out.
I just hate putting all this stuff on/off the Tilt. Ultimately stability is key since this is a phone.
Don't forget MortTasks, which you can also add to the menu in a Mortbutton & then have a whole set of shortcuts hanging on your single button press.
There is a programm - called "alttab.exe" jsut search. i haven´t it ehre at the moment!!

Well remembered @papamopps!! That was originally suggested for Touch users who are a little light on hardware buttons The relevant post in the original thread can be found here - saves you looking for it

Thanks for posting it. I am now trying to figure out the easiest way to create a short cut so that I can assign it to a button.
edit:
found it
Easiest way (?) to create a shortcut to the AltTab program......
Copy the AltTab.exe to \Windows on your device.
Open File Explorer and navigate to the AltTab.exe program
Tap and hold the AltTab.exe and select Copy from the popup menu
Navigate to \Windows\Appbuttons
Tap and hold on a white space area and select Paste Shortcut from the popup menu.
Tap and hold on the "alttab" shortcut and select Rename from the popup menu
Rename it to "Alt-Tab Task Switch" - or something meaningful to you
Job done!!
Go back into Start | Settings | Buttons and re-do the assignment; you should now see "Alt-Tab Task Switch" listed in the available options.
Hope that helps,
Mark.

I followed your directions but I can't seem to get alt-tab to appear in the list for button assignment. Tried this process on an ATT Tilt running Schap's 4.30 rom. Is there another folder?
FYI... put the short cut into the \windows\Start Menu folder and it will show up in the buttons lists.
i have a quick question:
i recently installed the htc home 6 button screen, and the htc home customizer
on the program launcher window there originally was an icon that takes me to the comm manager/wireless manager but i removed in an effort to re-arrange the buttons. but now i cant find it in the list of apps to add.
would it be possible for someone to direct me on how to get it back? thanks.
using the att stock rom

When you remove an icon from the launcher, there should be an empty space with a circle with a cross in it. Pressing that, should bring up thelist of apps you're talking about. On my device, it is just a few scrolling lines down.
Have you tried just typing "Comm Manager" in the top bar and press select?
unfortunately no luck on the typing in and hitting select. it just goes to the closest match in my case "contacts"
It was originally one of the first six or so items in the selection menu, if its not there i dont know where it would be.
I want the same thing, to add the Comm Manager to one of the launcher buttons, rather than trying to tap the connection icon at the top of the screen.
i use pocket toolman 2 which places a icon in the system tray with a host of other icons you can select. its quick, easy, and free... good app
tvos
I am not 100% sure which one but either Schaps advanced config or KaiserTweak one of those two things have option to enable wireless thingy on today screen. It shows your current wifi and bluetooth connections and clicking takes you to connection manager. I would first try KaiserTweak.

Worked out how to do it earlier.
Browse to the windows folder and make sure you've got all files visible.
Look for the executable CommManager.exe, right click on it, select copy.
Browse to windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools right click, select paste shortcut.
Right click and rename the new short cut from, "Shortcut to CommManager.exe" to CommManager
Then it will be visible in the list of applications you can add to your shortcut buttons on the HTC homescreen. You can use the same method for any other applications you want on the launcher if they're not available automatically.
(I pasted the shortcut where I thought it most appropriate on the start menu).
thanks 6thElement. that shortcut worked.
thanks TimeSaver. i used KaiserTweak to enable wireless on the today screen initially.
This trick did not work for me. I have the Dutty WM6.1 Diamond ROM.
I need to put the Connection Manager on the Today screen, so that it can show me what am I connected to, but it does not show up in the Today item list.
I created a Registry key for iy in HKLM\Softwate\Microsoft\Today\Items and it showed up in the list, but still does not work, brobably because I am linking to the wrong DLL.
May someone, who has the CommManaget on their Today screen see what are the correct Registry entries in HKLM\Softwate\Microsoft\Today\Items for the Comm Manager and post here?
never mind my previous post - I found that what I was looking for was called "wireless" and can be added through the Kaiser tweak....
My quick menu has disappeared from the today screen and in its place is a battery percentage icon. Since I have a battery indicator next to this i would like to put the quick menu back. Please help.
have you tried going and excuting the quick menu program from your program list? Once there you should be able adjust the options to your liking.
its not into programs. trying a hard reset
you shouldnt need to hard reset just to get quick menu back...have you tried:
a) clicking on the start icon and not the word start
b) re-installing the quick menu cab?
did hard reset putting back phone with sprite backup now. quick menu icon was on when phone first powered up. If it's gone now it means some program is removing it. Right?
if you cant find the quickmenu in the start icon, then you can just try looking for the quickmenu executable. i think it would most likely be in the \windows directory
Is there a reg edit to move the battery icon?
I want to move the battery icon to the left because it currently covers up the icon that shows new notifications in the title bar, making them unusable. Is there a reg edit to do this? Thanks in advance!
Found quick menu on start icon. changed battery to none and added Q to taskbar. But the quick menu icon that was on there before is now gone but I can use this method

Well if you did a restore with sprite backup then most likely, you just undid everything that made it reappear in the first place.

By quickmenu do you mean the quickmenu itself taking the place of the old start menu? If thats what you want you have to tell it to do so, under options, the very first page, select replace systems start menu (and register win key of device if you want the hardware start key mapped too)

I have no idea what you are talking about on this, with my quickmenu, the battery is shown the furthest to the right as possible (where the ok and X are normally shown). Are you saying that this is not how yours appears?

No mine appears next to the 3G icon
uncheck "show on all titlebar" for the battery option and then the battery will move to the far right
quickmenu
I went to quickmenu/options and selrcted replace start menu--------nothing happened. sorry now when i click start it lists everything but won open ie settings so I'm turning off replace start menu
Leon, everything that you are asking really is availible as an option under quickmenu itself (even displaying settings) my best advice for you is just to look under the options...almost all of the options (again in quickmenu) are self explainatory, so you should be able to get all of your questions answered within
quick menu start
All of this started when I lost the quick menu start icon thats all the way up in the right corner next to battery icon. It is 3 lines with a triangle on its bottom right. Now the last icon I have is the battery with an empty space next to it.

The three lines thing can be turned off by going to the windows mobile settings, task manager, and deselecting all of the options under it, and obviously the reverse if you want that part on (this is not quickmenu, this is htc's task manager app). The battery is from quickmenu which you can turn on or off under the quickmenu settings.
Went to Task mgr and quick menu is checked but it isnt back on the top of today screen!!!!

Yeah but that'll be a shortcut to the "Word Mobile program" not the file/document and I've got loads of word files on my device.
make a shortcut of the file and drop it in the progams folder under windows>start menu>programs. It will then appear in the list of programs to add to HTC home plugin.

OK, here's the solution:
1. Open File Explorer
2. Press and hold your stylus over the word document until a pop-up menu appears
3. Tap "Copy"
4. In File Explorer, go to Windows > Start Menu.
5. Now, tap "Menu > Edit > Paste as Shortcut"
Now, your word doument will appear when you click the + sign in HTC Home
hope this helps
Thanks!
I've done it!!!
adding programs to launcher - not bringing the program
I am trying to add program by hitting the + sign in launcher. It is bringing the programs. after I select a program - launcher is not adding it to the launcher. I can remove the existing programs. I have added 4 programs long time back. If I hit remove they are going away from launcher. But - programs are not getting added.
Any help? Thanks.
So i've been trying to change the icons on my screen. Tired a few ways but it doesnt seem to work. When i'm on my home screen i hold one of my icons and press replace -> custom icon. i'm sure i have elegant themes and more themes installed from the market already, but all that shows up is ASTRO, bluetooth file tansfer, gallery and messenger withyou. Same happens when i use folder organizer lite to do it! I'm i doing something wrong?
thanks in advance!
Folder organizer works for me.
Open Folder Organizer > Apps > Press Drop Down Menu on any of Apps > Select "Icon"
and then select new icon from "And Explorer" or any other method.
after these steps
Go back to Home screen Long press on Home screen, Select " Widgets" > Scroll left and select "Folder Organizer Item" > Select "Apps" > Now Select the app that you have changed the icon previously. Thats it. New Icon Appears on Home Screen.
