New Diamond on the way. What needs to be updated??? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I just ordered my Diamond, and it's arriving on Monday. Excited to get it, and decided to learn what can be updated on it, before I received it.
Firstly, what needs to be done to stay updated and working at best? Update firmware, roms, configs, tweaks, etc.??? and which? Actually I'm not quite sure how this stuffs works in this forum.
I know one thing is to unlock the quad-band. What's next?
Please advise. Thanks.

Back to Tilt/Kaiser, questions arised.

Long story short... i had a tilt, accidentally fell in a pool while intoxicated and some how got one back through warranty (if you wanna know more just ask me, i can share the story on how exactly i got the phone through warranty even with the moisture sticker being pink, i think i got lucky) anyways... so i got my tilt back and was gonna sell it because i purchased a nokia e90, but my love for the tilt made me want to change my mind.
i did have a chance to read about 2 hours worth on the new wm6.1 and new SPLs... having to be specific to roms to maximize performance....but i want to make sure i dont have a brick in my hands after taking such steps.
My situation:
At&t customer
At&t tilt(refurbished of course)
Basically just popped in the battery and got my contacts in there.
I want to be able to use cooked roms, most likely wm 6.1 but i wouldnt mind having the ability to use the older version roms as well. I dont know if this is possibly without having to change SPLs... is it?
Having said this is a AT&T phone, i would like to unlock it, sim unlocked good? if so, should i do this first because i believe i can only do it on wm6.0... what spl do i need to have?
Then i want to use cooked roms, but not to the extent where i will be flashing every week... i might flash 3-5 roms and then decide to keep the one i like best and not flash another for atleast a month or so.... which method would be the best for me? ( i do believe in donations, and will provide to creator of rom that i will use on a daily basis).
I am also ready to receive negative feedback from administrators if this thread is something i shouldnt be posting, and i want to say i am sorry if this is the case, if not, i would like to be lead to the direction of wiki and readmes on how i can go about doing what i need to do.
Thanks in advance.
Firstly, this has no business in "ROM DEVELOPMENT".
All of your questions can be answered in the wiki or the first couple of posts in this thread.
As for a rom, tastes vary, so you'll need to play around & find what you are comfortable with. Flashing regularly is not a problem if you get familiar with Sashimi, Tierman Auto Install & UC as explained by Sleuth.
Thanks, one question, before i flash a wm6.1 rom, should i have the new hardspl ? is that universal to all wm6.1 roms?
No more questions in this thread.
Sorry friend, you don't get another question. As was already explained you are in bad form in the forum.
Please have some respect for the other members of the forum, read the links in my signature and then read the forum. Your answers are here, you just need to find them.

...I'm considering getting another phone to replace the Diamond.

The Diamond has been with me ever since it was released in June, but there always seems to be this or that issues with every ROM release.
I'm considering the E71 as a replacement...but also trying to hold off on the purchase to see will the Diamond improve anytime soon.
Issues with my Diamond:
Accelerometer
Alarm sound not repeating
Memory leak
why everybody that think about changing the diamond feel the urge to announce it in a new thread that is coming to become a mess like all the same threads on the same subject? why? you are a senior member, you should know better.
i recommend you to read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415852
and afterward do what u please. no big deal...good luck!
please keep the forum clean!
I "Should"? "Senior" member doesn't mean jack as it's only post count related.
I don't see why that thread is recommended...maybe I'm missing something?

and... ? This was so important that you had to open a new post?
Buy E71 and Good Bye Or maybe I should try to convince you not to do it or something
I will open a new post tomorrow saying what I've ate at lunch :]
The forum will be then definitely more readable.
100% AGREE wit KukurikU.
Simply the fact that this thread is useless, doesn't bring any information, plus the facts cited are plainly wrong in my experience.
That's all you're missing. Good bye and good luck with your new phone. The corresponding forum awaits you.
Hum...why even bother to reply to a useless thread?
Why have the urge to convince someone that your view is more correct than others?

Do you actually have something to say and contribute to this forum, or are you just trying to be controversial?

"contribute" in the form of "useful information": no.
But I do have a question: With all the devices from HTC in the past, do they perform better over time, with newer ROM releases? Does HTC bother much with ROM updates even after the launch of each product? I guess I should have posted the "question" in the first post of this thread...but then again...it wouldn't be considered as useful information. Given this, it's why I'm trying to hold off my other purchase.
P.S. Not directed at anyone, but, some people on these forums just have a "I'm better than you" complex and have the urge to reply to threads saying "why start a new thread". Geez...just don't reply to it, it'll eventually be history and move itself down the list of threads. Unless you're the administrator concerning with storage issues.
i want my 2 mins back...
well I dont have a problem with the Accelerometer or the Alarm sound not repeating, and the memory leak for me stabilises at 70% and stuff works fine and fast 4 me even then... go buy you symbian device if you want and perhaps get an iphone while your at it, good luck and good bye.
Leave the guy alone!
chatbox, i too just got the E71 after having the DIamond since its release, infact i think this will be my last Windows Mobile Phone well at least till windows 7 comes out.
I got so sick & tired of every rom, having either issues, or being slow at "certain" tasks & also the fact that with WMP's you need 2-3 steps to do the same task in 1 step on say a Nokia. Also once you use hard buttons like the keyboard on E71 you'll hate touch screen keyboard were its slow & many mistakes.
I will though miss flashing roms & trying diffrent tweaks in the registery etc..etc..
But honestly its a phone & i need 3 major tasks in a phone.
Simple, Fast & stable.
If u try the E71, i promise u wont regret it bro.
I think chatbox is desperately trying to find some solution for diamond problems he is suffering from using this thread. A last try just before leaving the boat.
I dont tink that is wrong from him. After all this community forum is all about assisting each other. If he is asking for help or openion that will not mess up the forum
Senior Members... we highly appreciate your contributions to make or lives easier using diamond and making this forum the most comprehensive information / tools source all over the web however dont expect that all other members are as good as you in the know-how issue so please bear with us

Noob on Flashing unoffical ROM

Hello all i am new to this forum, and i read many posts regarding to flashing a HTC ROM, but there are still couple things i do not understand, and i hope someone can help me answer them.
I got a HTC HD from HK (European Version I believe, because it has orange logo on the battary cover)
I found this version quite inconvenient for me, because it does not support Chinese Traditional texts display when i browse on Chinese website.
I am still toying with the basic HD function, i only want to flash my rom to the CSL CHT rom
here is my question, do i have to do a HSPL or USPL.... i read some post about each HD device has their own ID or model, so there might be a limitation on rom i can flash to, how do i check the model for my HD?
the links on Duttythory are not connecting me to their files, anyone know another way around this problem?
i guess my last question is what is why do we flash the RADIO? I have flashed ROMs (from official website) on my TOUCH before never flash RADIO before.. if anyone can provide me a link with explanation will be helpful.
Thank you
beelee335
can some experienced user answer my question
many thanks
couple of things
this is a community, the way you are asking for help sounds very much like you are expecting people to jump and deliver for you
thats not the way forums work, no one here is an employee or providing a service of an agreed level, people here (including the admins and mods) are just people that are here to chat share and learn, some are much more active than others
secondly, you are asking a question that has been asked before and answered before. as you state you are a newbie, then the best place to start for any of us when we are noobs at certain things is the FAQ and if present, the wiki
the wiki in this instance is your best starting point
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Flashing Guide
many thanks for your respond, i did manage to find a post and solved my problem, sorry for breaking the rules now my device is flashed to a Chinese Traditional rom
again sorry about that, please just let this post sink
glad you are sorted
its not so much "rules" as just the way forums like this are, they are "user forums" and any and all forums such as this expect people to search and read and solve the problem for themselves before asking
if its a question that hasnt been answered elsewhere in the forum (as yours happily was) then ask away and people will be happy to answer you, in their time (giving just 12 hours to get a response isnt long ) if of course an answer exists!
i meant more of a heads up for you so you dont accidently upset people now or in the future so that you are able to enjoy this and other forums and get all the answers you need
enjoy your HD and here

Going back?

If I put the leaked 6.5 ROM on my phone, does anyone know how to go back to the factory software?
Are a stock T-Mobile ROM and radio for the Touch Pro 2 available?
Thanks guys! Just wanna be able to go back if I'm not happy.
If you flash HardSPL then yes, you can go back to 6.1
Ok, great and is there a 6.1 Stock T-Mobile ROM yet?
i dont mean to sound like a jerk at all... we're all noobs (i still am) at some point so with that said there are alot of threads where people ask for the original rom.
if you seach for a lil bit your answer can be found a few places... even google.
folk round here tend to get a lil harsh having to reanswer the same questions, for future reference.
this thread was made recently:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5379887
original rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550975
on a side note, i doubt you'll ever go back once you find the ROM that suits you
Hey thanks for the reply. I've been on here for a while and I'm no stranger to forums and forum etiquette so I'm not gonna use being a noob as an excuse for asking that question. But I do think we can get a bit stuffy with rules in forums in general, not just here. I think in the midst of a conversation with someone, to casually inquire about something without necessarily asking to be led by the hand to it, is ok. I'm sorry to have seemed like I was asking to be spoon fed, but I was just having casual conversation with you. With a simple yes, I would have searched myself.
But thanks for going to the trouble of finding those links. I just need to confirm now that that ROM and radio actually are working and not flawed in some way. I gotta figure out who created them and how.
Thanks again!
no problem man, it aint even like that with me... i had the link bookmarked anyway.
i was just trying to save you from being called out later on.
i dont never mind answerin anybodys questions cause i been there lookin for simple answers.
glad to help.
the rom works fine, i flashed it just to be sure everything was a-ok when i first got it.
like i said tho, once you find "your" rom, the links will be useless haha
