I have a feeling that this will become quite a discussed post. The *taster* version of TT that comes with the Kaiser allows you to download only one map - and the selection is limited.
I have a TomTom Go in my car and was wondering if I can use the map data from there? I have all of Western Europe. Obviously I'll need a memory card capable of holding it but the real question is - can you use TT Go maps on TT Mobile?
R
I suspect that the maps are attached to a particular device.
Depends on the map version you have.
I guess the Kaiser has a version 6 Tomtom. Therefore you need at least map designed for that version.
In general the maps for the Go and the WM versions of TomTom are identical. Theoretically it should work.
BUT:
Apart from that you also need a device specific activation code belonging to the map/device combination. Your maps are obviously allready activated for your Go, so you cannot activate them on a second device.
Maybe the TomTom helpdesk (forum on their site) can help you out.
Taster version of TomTom with Kaiser......is it possible to uninstall it so that I can install my own tomtom which I have got on my current sd card in trinity, as it is activated and with all maps? I mean, is this tatser verison included in ROM or is it removable from settings?
Thanks

I believe i noticed in the "retail TyTN II unboxing" video, that TomTom resides on a CD with applications in the box.... So that would mean you have to install it yourself, and in that case you can go with your own full copy of TomTom...
What i would like to know is, if version 6.030 from my Trinity will run smoothly on the Kaiser...???

tomtotm isnt on the rom. so there will be no need to uninstall anything. just put your version on and use it. its supplied on the software disk. I'll be putting my own version of tomtom onmine when i get my micro sd card hopefully tomorrow
but the version on the CD Rom is the latest (6.0.32)
the 6.0.32 version of TTN6 is specific for WM devices with built-in GPS, like the Kaiser.
So, best option is to use the app from the kaiser package and your own maps.
I think you can just copy the map folder from the TomTom Go to an microSD card and see if it is working.
I bet it is.

Legally? No. TomTom licenses you maps per device, so what you have is licensed to your GO.
Practically? Yes. You'll need one of the many keygens out there....
Can you nav guys help. I've never used GPS with my TyTN. I'm considering a TyTN II and have some questions.
Can you use the built in GPR without an external antennae with Google Maps with the TyTN II? Or do you need the TomTom or other software?
I like using Google maps.

You don't need an antenna or extra software like tomtom. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly setting up the ports to use to get say Google Maps or other software to see the inbuilt GPS - but you get there in the end!

Mike:
Thanks again for your reply. I think I may pick up the TyTN II here pretty quickly. I just wanted to hear that the built in GPS actually does something.

What port are you using in Googlemaps? I've left it at auto, which doesn't work :S
Thanks!
People said that Googlemaps is not so friendly with long waiting to get satelite fix. So, Googlemaps tend to disconnect and wont tell you anything.
The workaround (not nice btw), is to start TomTom to get satelite fix, then quit.
After that Googlemaps will be able to connect to the GPS and works fine.
But, sorry for asking, what are the good things of Googlemaps compare to, let say TomTom or Route66, etc. Of course, it is FREE, but other than that?
Is Googlemaps available for all continent (Europe?) ?
bear in mind that google maps is an API, not just a web site.
It is possible to write location sharing apps etc for google maps, a mobile interface would be very cool.
Guys where on earth is the tomtom cab file for version 6? I only got 2 cd's, 1 applications which only has 3 apps (but not tomtom) and the starter cd which I did look all over? Is there more than 2 cd's?

I don't have Tomtom6 on any CDs either , I got the units from SuperiorGadgets, they are HTC Tytn II. And I tried Mapopolis, map4pda, igo 2007, Destinator 6, none can see GPS.
What is the hardware port? I checked the GPS CP app, it shows COM4: as software, none for hardware. I tried couple of settings there, none worked so far.
1st post, newbie lurker.
I've been googling, searching all over cyber space for either a cab file, or something that will allow me to use my TomTom 6 (legit copy w/ serial #), that I purchased w/ my Treo 700p 3 yrs. ago, w/ my Sprint HTC Touch Pro.
Initial installation, I get the "This version of TomTom is not compatible w/ your phone" (something along those lines).
I've tried
-installing the latest TomTom 7 cab file w/ the TomTom 6 maps and voices, before I read that the TomTom 7 cab will not work w/ TomTom 6 maps
-installing the older version of the TomTom 7 files, though I read and know now that it won't work w/ my TomTom 6 maps
-tried installing the TomTom Nav. 7 cab file, to download the "free map" from the tom tom site, but I kept getting an "error page"
-tried using the TomTom 7 and just purchase the US maps, but tomtom doesn't have US maps available, only European from what I can recall
I've also read that other users w/ the HTC TP have successfully installed their TomTom6, are they using a more up to date version? Do I need to make another massive purchase w/ TomTom?
The box to my TomTom NaV. 6, says compatible w/ WinMobile and Palm OS.
but it is several years old.
TIA for any help and suggestions, and I honestly did do a search and read half way through the TomTom 7 Diamond thread, but wasn't able to find anything useful, other than the cab. files.
If my version is outdated, then is my only option to get a new one? Also, can someone point me the right direction as to where I can buy (legally, from TomTom or 3rd party vendor), the US maps to work w/ the TomTom Nav 7?
Thanks again,
"The FNG"
I have a Fuze, but I have the same questions as you. I've tried installing Navigator 6 and I get an error message and installation is unsuccessful. I've installed Navigator 7 and I can't get it to recognize my v6.75 maps even though people have said these should be backwards compatible. I have downloaded and successfully installed the free city map (Los Angeles). I cannot find anywhere to legally purchase v7.xx North America maps; Tomtom is now selling v8.xx. Can anyone please confirm if Navigator 7 is compatible with 6.75 maps or not? Thanks.
I have tom tom 6 working just fine
I have tom tom 6 working just fine, originally from my 750.
Assuming you have tom tom home installed on your pc.
Copy all of of your tom tom data to the sd card.
Run the cab.
make sure you have your tt code handy.
start tom tom home, it will recognise your new device,( tom tom allow you a device change once every six months)
you will need to register a new account, from then on it just recognises everything.

did you install the software from here?

AFAIK, the Tomtom PPC version works with v7 maps. I'm thinking the maps you got are not for the ppc model, but for a different system.
Downloading TomTom Home 2.5 and connecting Orange (and maybe all variety) Diamond causes TOMTOM to offer a free trial of TOMTOM 7.9 with trial map and access to purchase others advancing the cause of those whose Diamonds did not have TOMTOM in ROM. Win for Diamond users. Win for TOMTOM map sales.
Sounds like very good news and TT actually applying some common sense for a change.
Does Home 2.5 work with Navigator? Previous versions did not and us PDA users were forced to use Version 1.5. It is for that reason that I did not instal it when it came out.
I have a legitimate version of TT6 up and running on my TD. Does this instal wipe any previous versions of TT off, or can both run together?
Can this version read version 6 maps - I would probably buy a Europe map but have a Southern Africa map I would want to keep in case I ever visit there again.
Maybe it's just because I live in Canada, but the only map I can download is the one free map. If I try to purchase a map via TomTom Home it shows none available. Kind of annoying since TomTom is pretty much useless if you can't buy maps. It does work for all the free voices and car images, etc though. Maybe I should have selected the UK as my country when I registered....
Tomtom Hone 2.5 encourages a connected diamond user to download working version of Tomtom 7 (v 7.90)for HTC devices which replaces extracted files from Diamonds with v7 in ROM. This allowed my access to previously purchased maps (v7.45maps) which wouldn't load with previous extracted versions of Tomtom 7. Home 2.5 has version for Navigator. Purchasing from Tomtom website for Navigator 7 leads to discounted 8.15 maps. Would assume these will work. My Orange diamond worked with maps of W Europe designated for O2.
The 6.75 maps will work with TomTom 7, I'm using them together just fine.
I'm using Tomtom V8 maps with Tomtom 7 no problem.
Worked for me. But does anyone know if this is a trial software, or the full version? I wouldn't want to spend $80 on a map of Australia, if the software runs out in a couple of weeks...
TomTom itself (the program) is free, its the maps you pay for, therefore it is a full version and will not run out.
Definitely full version. Can set to have cows mooing if speed limit exceeded. Tomtom will probably advise if v 8.15 maps operate if other site users cannot say. Cannot see why not as I am sure tomtom want map sales otherwise copilot will take htc users on. Home slightly slow to catch on to what you want . You may have to purchase maps from tomtom website and use Home to transfer to diamond rather than purchasing through Home itself.
I emailed TT "support" some questions about this and here is part of their reply
"Home is offering you this application in error. It is an update to the preinstalled version of Nav 7, so probably won't work."
So there you go - all of this is a figment of your imagination. It doesn't exist and if it did it wouldn't work anyway. And it is all your fault for wanting up to date software and maps from us.
Oh and by the way they also said that TTN6 is not compatible with my TD even if it works on it. I must get a copy of their dictionary to see what there definition of compatible is.
I am so glad that Tom Tom is back to its normal ways - I don't think I could have stood the shock of them becoming helpful.
Not complaining. Best example of unsolicited goods I've had in a long time. Is it tomtom's reluctance to preload in all markets or mobile companies wanting you to use their navigation system with costly data downloads?
Maybe I am blind.
I didn't find anything on TOMTOM.COM for Pocket PC!
Please help.
Thanks
TomTom Navigator...
Try here!
This is the latest version available at the moment for PDA's. If you want version 7, you'll have to wait for it to be released I'm afraid.
This is a link to the german tomtom site offering version 7
http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=542&Category=2&Lid=3
On O2 devices (and maybe others, except on vodafone diamonds, i don't know) in germany there is a version 7.450 preinstalled. There's a updated version 7.910 available (don't know where) and Maps are also available at e.g. tomtom.com
You should find it in the wide internet world
